The Toyota GR Corolla is an absolute blast to drive as a hot hatch with character. However is the aftermarket any good for this hype beast hot hatch? Let's talk about it.

If it doesn't burn to the ground.
@@willbroccolo8389 right I can’t believe he recommended a car known for burning itself to the ground and then Toyota ignoring the warranty lmao
@@TheEverLastingRose lol maybe mine will burn lol
Nah the fact I void my warranty going over 85mph and it may burn to the ground this cars is just another one of Toyotas failures
This is why Ford needs to bring back the Focus ST and RS!
No don't bring back that piece of sheit. Tired of hearing that Popcorn tune everywhere.. BRING BACK The FORD Escort RS cosworth and the R200. that thing is nasty for it' s time..
I would absolutely trade my WRX in for a new focus RS. I wanted one so bad in 2018, but it was selling for so much over msrp.
@@blkstang4830why not get a used one
@blkstang4830 Same! Wanted to get either a new car, or something used, with low miles. My 3.8 Genesis coupe (bk2) was getting up there in miles. So, kept looking, and looking, and all the Focus RS I liked had over 50k, and they were asking over 30k for. I ended up just keeping my Genesis , and buying a new 23 Elantra N about a year and a half ago for 35k. I want to eventually build the motor on my Genesis, and add a supercharger. One day......
Sorry the best we can do is the Ecosport
I still believe the GR Yaris is a more suitable chasis for this engine, considering power to weight ratio
The engine was specifically developed and engineered for the GR Yaris. Toyota US chose the GR Corolla platform since the GR Yaris is not offered in the US.
Then explain why the GRC is faster around the track then?
GR Corolla is better
@@Yosh1azI think the Yaris is not available in the USA low sales.
@@mrdiamondethe gr yaris would’ve likely outsold the gr corolla in the us.
I’d say the Golf R is its competition more than a Civic Type R. At least their drivetrain is more similar.
Golf R is only available with DCT now. It does have awd though so that's a big factor that makes your point logical.
GR Yaris here in the UK is WAY better than the Golf R.
@ Golf R runs mid 12s in the 1/4 mile all stock. Elantra, Corolla, Yaris, and Civic are all over a second slower. Depends on what you’re looking for. I like to go fast in a straight line too.
@dwarnke72 I've had both and can tell you the GR Yaris is a far better car. Golf R mundane and boring. Straight lines are boring, round a track the GR Yaris is way better 👌.
@@dwarnke72 sure might be quicker in a drag but it's definitely not going to last longer...
yo bro i love your videos the camera work and vibes is crazy, keep it up :DD also rest in peace
Well, done on this review, David! I really enjoyed it. I’m glad you have an appreciation for the GR Corolla 😎
The Draftkings sponsor is not it. Promoting online gambling is harmful, even as sports betting.
Touch grass
Nice virtue, signaling, just wait till he finds out that nobody cares
It’s not any different then having a sponsorship from Philip Morris. Gambling addictions are arguably worse. I think grown adults should be able to do whatever they want but society shouldn’t be promoting this shit.
Are you suggesting people aren’t in control of their own actions?

The shift at 9:23-9:26 was amazing, literally what I live for! Also stock 2step is amazing!!! Another great video man. Hopefully get to run into you at some point.
Have you gotten to experience the GR Corolla yet?
Sadly no 😢. The only way I'm gonna get to drive one is if someone pulls up to the shop needing an alignment. Cause I'm pretty sure the people that own em do their own work otherwise
No but I will have one
not yet, the initial markups killed my interest
Owned mine for a few months now. Loving every moment with it!
Its my current daily driver and man, trading my 20' FBO XSE was 100% worth it. The GRC is the perfect balance of utility and fun here in Michigan. Currently waiting on my OTL down-pipe to ship so I can install and get tuned by Graham over at Boosted Performance Tuning, hoping for 350-360 whp after all set and done
Toyota was never a boring Prius builder… Toyota just took a break that’s all.
What's wild is the new Prius is actually a really cool car, and the fastest one yet. Toyota can literally do anything automotive and do it very well for the consumer.
If I had stupid money I would do a Mirage swap. I have always loved 3 cylinder cars for some weird reason. It would be the Mirage GSX. And it would be stupid fast.
I don't think the mirage frame could handle the torque.
Mirage is a garbage platform. Engine, chassis, suspension all cheap crap it's like a Nissan versa from 20 years ago
@shallowgrey but it would be awesome for a summer. Just enough time to create the legend.
@@valentinsantiago277 honestly if you really want to build a fast three cylinder, build a Geo Metro or if you want to do something unique then turbo a first gen Honda Insight
Mirages got the v6 swap already it’s perfect as is
I heard the G16E-GTS is reliably handling 400-500hp on stock internals
doesn’t this thing toss rods making 350?
I would not go higher than 450 horses on stock internals. I don’t know the torque limit but playing it safe is always good.
Not even close. You will lift the valve springs around 400hp
on a 3 cylinder?? i doubt it'll live more than a year at best
Ummm. They been doing it for years w the same engine in the Yaris.
Spiritual successor to the Evo 8* Go find one and drive a GR back to back. Its crazy.
Can Confirm.
Nooooo it's the sti 😤
Owned an Evo 8 and now the GRC. They really are very similar driving experiences. I do like the GRCs powerband a bit more though. Its a formula that's been missing for some time - Take a shitbox commuter car and make it extremely fun to drive.
I could drive an M car or S3 if I wanted to but nothing beats this type of performance car for me.
@@dsmluck would love to see the alfa brera , clio v6 and c30 return. thats like the hothatch holy trinity, CR-X none withstanding.
@@2JZDestroyer I had a Clio RS 200 Cup and I know it gets hate for the EDC transmission but that little car was a fucking riot.
I understand the engineering behind this is pretty impressive. The 6MT is quite good, the 3cyl 300HP is impressive. However, a fully-loaded GR Corolla with the 8spd auto is more than a Golf R. That's insane. Especially when you take into account that the Golf R has quite a'bit more features & a better looking interior (albeit the interior touch capacitive buttons aren't great).
As someone who owns a golf with the touch captive buttons, i can firmly say that i almost can't tell the difference between them and "real" buttons until the car is turned off.
That’s called Toyota tax 😂 I don’t get it either
The gr has the potential to be on the road in 10 years. Golf r will be in the scrap yard, generally speaking.
Definitely on my list of mods, OTL has done an awesome job on their R&D on this platform
Have a look at motive video's series on the gr Yaris. They used a bunch of mods from companies to make a lot of power on the stock motor.
What exactly have they R&D?
Thank you for saying YOU have trouble with fwd and not just reverting to the "fwd sucks" boy racer statement most people make
You might as well tune it and void your warranty because driving the GR at all voids your warranty
Yep, cause going over 80mph will cause the stock tire to set your engine on fire apparently 😂
No it doesn't ... If ya drive the car responsibility, Toyota will warranty anything that breaks. Try again

*_I was blown away once I saw the dyno of one of these pushing 800whp…_*
I've had a '23 since July and I was today old when I learned about the cruise control launch...
Ive been waiting for a more customizable lift option for my grc. I want to make a rally inspired build around the rocket bunny kit
I've got a '24 GR Corolla with the same Eventuri intake, and Apex'i Extreme (JDM) exhaust. Planning on Annex coilovers (the stock ride has BRUTAL rebound), OTL intercooler (the billet endcaps), and a Billetworks short-shifter. Thats it. Haven't dyno'ed it, but probably around 300 hp at the wheels as is. More than enough for me....
I would love a Yaris, perfect for big cities. with the corolla engine of course.
The GR Yaris has the exact same engine as the GR Corolla
If only
@@jasonbern5185 Too bad we cant get the Yaris gr here in Canada.
I want one, but my kids are getting bigger, not smaller. I love hot hatches, and I think this and Golf R are cool as shit. By the time I buy another car, my kiddos will be too big for one. If you have 2 kids, a minivan is the move. You don’t need a 3 row SUV for 1 or 2 kids.
90s 5 series BMW v8 with upgraded modern suspension and a manual. M5 if possible.
It's fun to see OTL represented on your channel, and super cool to see you ripping the GR around my town! Glad you enjoyed it!
there's only one shop that's leading the way for the G16E engine and that's lamspeed racing. the only guys that are running 9s 1/4mile passes in the GR yaris (880hp g16e engine).
Buddy has one with just a milltek exhaust and it’s an absolute blast to drive, even stock.
Yes. Should also try out our plug and play amplifier.
I have a 2024 wilderness. I was driving on the 405 and this car purred past me like I was standing still. It hadn't even really took off yet. IT had fins towards the ground with 2 round exhaust pipes on both sides. It was the Toyota with a mod. I'm giving my 2018 Forester to my Grandson, its still has about 60K in warrantee left. I'm going to need a car or truck soon to just drive to work and back. This looks like fun. I cant weld at all. These websites that have mods do they offer to do the work too? I'm in California. By the way, I stumbled upon your channel while looking at the WRX, a coworker has it, but its only a little faster than my wilderness. This corolla on the 405 was a rocket!
that was me lol
I wonder how long those engines will last because the 3 cylinders are seeing some high boost to be able to get the HP numbers like a 4 and 6 bangers in it's class.
@@addman1952 You havent watched the GR Yaris builds from Australia or Bahrian two years a go. Well over 400whp on stock engines.
All depends on how you drive it and any modifications you do. Anything you do to add more power adds more wear and tear. If left stock and you don't drive it like a maniac I'm predicting you'll get 200k miles out of it.
You know nothing.
@@addman1952they've been running them in the UK for years with no issues.
@addman1952 cool bro, your untested opinion vs thousands of hours of testing, analysis and engineering by actual experts here in Aus.
I got mine in may and have loved it everyday.
Likely will be doing this after the warranty falls off, more than fun enough for now as a DD as it is.
Absolutely. It's the closest thing (along w/the Yaris) we have to the legendary Lancia Delta HF Integrale Evo II.
I've been loving my GR Corolla, I'm hoping someone makes a cool aftermarket hood, they only seem to make the stock one carbon fiber, or 1 with the stupid vent in the front.
Love the design! Sounds epic! BTW I must be watching from a different dimension bc R.I.P. but this version of you seems similar to our dimension of TDIB! Lolz
Great video a gr corrola was on my list earlier this year when I was shopping but couldn't find any near msrp. Ended up in a 2020 veloster N it's been good
Rest In Peace David. When you come back from the dead, can you let us know if valve springs need to be done to achieve 350 reliably?
Yes bet yes bet yes bet so cool I love these! That's so cool that they made more horsepower outta it
Nice video. Maybe one day I can afford a GR, and I would love to build it with mods like this for a Rally build
I just bought a Toyota yaris RS 2008 Manuel and I’m in love with it slow but so much fun 💯🙏🏽😌
The Advan wheels are sick!
DM IOWA! Shoutout to my Iowa people! All 12 of us! (Honestly its dope that we have some great car related stuff even if its mostly on the west side of the state, tho Iowa City area has some stuff too)
Having driven one incredibly hard on a great road (Bogus Basin, Boise, Idaho), I think it just needs a tune to get it to the type of response the owner wants and a great set of grippy tires on lightweight wheels. That’s all. Fun as is but could be more exciting with a power push.
@5:55 nice ESTES terminal behind you lol (estes driver here)
Man one of the best parts of your videos was the cinematic music intros, bring them back! 😩
I have one but I’m leaving it stock for the most part. I did exhaust , drop in filter and some visuals. If I have a need for speed I’ll get in my 6 cylinder turbo or Supercharged 8.
It's rare for a car to have a perfect horseporque 🤘
These cars show that there is still interest in smal sports cars even if they have small engines. I haven’t seen a single GR corolla owner complain that it’s a 3 cylinder they all love it. 4 is boring but 5 or 3 is really cool
Getting that 3 banger to sound good is a tall task.
Wym it sounds pretty dang good it’s got a nice grunt to it
This guy has never heard one irl.
@JosephFord-p2t I've heard one. They're just not good sounding engines. Like the S55. No matter how hard you try.
@@Sketchyatbe5t^
Ive overwhelmingly heard the opposite, but to each their own @BerlinghoffRasmussen
Sounds like I might need to get this set up for my GRC! Is it a flash tune or do I have to take it somewhere?
The yaris is quite a bit smaller. Really notice the widebody seeing them around. Corolla has the same power, I'd hoped they were going to turn it up a little to compensate for the weight but it does give me hope for future fun attainable cars. The Corolla would suit me better being a big guy and gotta love the 3 setting 4wd and manual.
I own a 24 GRC Premium, and I've been thinking about power upgrades eventually. 350 wheel is like a 100HP gain 😆 crazy! I do think this car can benefit from added power, but i think i first wanna deal with the rear diff issue.
555 Engineering has a cooler they have developed, and they seem to apply it with the Syvvcs AWD controller.
I mean... I think the ultimate issue, when you come down to it, is that the GRC has a front-biased AWD system. Even if you made major improvements to cooling for the rear diff, it'll still act like a front-biased system because that's fundamentally what it is. For street use, it'll work. For anything more than that, you're really kind of barking up the wrong tree.
@CaseyCollier thing is the "sensor" for the rear isn't even doing a real job. It's an assumption based on load from what I've found out.
@@dmcpartlin17
Yeah, I've heard about that as well.
@CaseyCollier there is a company that replaced the rear gearing with a different ratio, and they said it has actually fixed it from happening somehow lol.
This review made me so excited to get one.
I really can’t stand the photos but my neighbors buddy has one and it’s pretty slick and sounds nice
GRolla is my "pick any current year car for free but you have to keep it can't sell it" car, basically my dream daily. And as cool as the aftermarket is getting, I think I would keep mine mostly stock for the first couple years, at least when it comes to power. I'm more of a back road corner crusher than a high speed highway runner so if I have enough horses to get moving on an uphill and safely merge onto the freeway then my mod money could go to tires, brakes, suspension, and utility stuff like a bike rack, and don't have to annoy all my older neighbors at the same time :D Also differential bias adjustment is probably my favorite feature of modern AWD cars, if it came with a 4th mode with full manual adjustment in the full range I'd probably be seriously considering trying to find one with minor collision damage or something. Not to full send 100% RWD or anything but to dial in the perfect bias for my driving style, it's my favorite tuning menu in racing games tied with brake bias.
Think I saw a gr Yaris with 600hp unopened before. These engines have huge potential.
I am sorry, but why do people feel the need to always be building more horsepower into every vehicle they touch. Some vehicles are fine just the way they are, and this is one of them.
I’d like to get you opinion on the gr Corolla vs veloster n an which one you’d prefer
For the looks I’d go with the Veloster N, but power wise and aftermarket available I’ll have to go with the Corolla. Sadly the Veloster N doesn’t have any aftermarket support for some reason
@@1470boyzit got killed off too soon. Elantra N has a much stronger aftermarket.
As someone who's driven both, they're are completely different animals. The VN rotates more on track, making arguably more fun to drive. On the other hand, the GRC gives you confidence to push yourself further and further.
There's 100% a flexfuel/e85 option for these motors.
LOTS of Australian companies have made a lot of aftermarket parts for the Yaris motor.
With the same mods I'd be lucky to hit 350 whp in my STI. Nice ride bro!
Love this car. I have my Morizo sitting on ice until the aftermarket develops a little bit more. I’m glad Toyota didn’t build this car for the internet crowd.
I just bought a 24 circuit edition this past monday and i absolutely love it. Imo its the best example of having your cake and eating it too.
Hey David I only speak for myself here, but as viewer feedback: I know sponsorships are critical, but gambling apps wreck lives and I feel weird about supporting channels supporting gambling/vice products. I'm sure others feel other ways, this is just how I feel.
No people making the decision to gamble wrecked thier lives. Hes a grown ass man. He can have whoever he wants as his sponsor. get off your high horse clown

I have a GR yaris. Would like a drive in the corolla just to feel the difference
I wanted one before, and now I definitely want one!
The 3 cylinder sounds unique. The 1.6 liter is just following the rally rules. The Euro Fiesta also had a 3 cylinder.
Are they still having the issues with the trans overheating on the track?
It's the rear diff and yes. WRX costs $20k less and doesn't overheat
Look up 555 engineering. They found out it wasn't the diff that was overheating but the transfer case itself as many other shops have hung the rear diff temp sensor in open air and still had it go on limp mode. Weird thing is the transfer case has no Temp sensor so it's just the computer inffering that data from other sensors around and calculating it based off vehicle load. Basically the fix if u want to hard core track it is to add a cooler for the transfer case to keep Temps in check. Also replace the OEM AWD module with a syvecs controller to prevent the abrupt Limp mode as it can be kinda dangerous and upset the balance of the car if it comes on mid corner.
@Vicstruction you are correct, but it's still slower, less equipped, and already dated in terms of interior and exter design
@Vicstruction the wrx is significantly slower on track if you're comparing stock for stock and overheats it different aspects. Any car under 50k will have it's issues on track regardless of brand or track advertisement....
@@sl0907so you need significant modifications to make the car work on a track… that’s not good at all.
David have you thought about implementing a dragy into review videos? Just a thought. Love the vids man, much love.
The other cars you mentioned aren't even using Toyota motors so they really aren't even Toyota. You really need to drive a tuned wrx. I would love a video of your reaction on it opinions on it.
I would love to consider this but the price point is nuts IMO
The potential of this engine has been explored and it is extremely impressive, especially given its small size. Check out motive videos build the gr Yaris. Very impressive.
dude look at what lamspeed racing is doing with the gr yaris. 1/4 mile in 9.4@149. I wish I could get the gr yaris, but the corolla will do.
You should do a modded 2022+ wrx
Can you do no lift siift with the anti lag
great little motor, but im waiting on the new 2L 4 cylinder they will bring out soon.
I sure would like them to make an XRS hatch, with a 2.5L from the camry.
Love the video! Now I want an exhaust even more lol
But did they fix all of the problems with the diff and it "overheating" ?
They did not as far as im aware but savagegeese does a really good bit explaining the issue and how to fix it. Basically factory awd controller is just set up really dumb and believes the t-case is overheated under extreme driving. A syvex awd controller with tune and a trans/t-case cooler solve the issue completely
Hope it doesn’t burn to the ground like so many others. Has anyone found the fault source of what is catching fire in the engine bay?

I have owned a Yaris GR since new from 2021.
Mine now runs similar power numbers and is faultless...
The Yaris is for small country roads... think tail of the dragon!
I can't wait until I am ready for the 350/ 400 upgrade!
I would not call the GR Corolla a sporitual successor to the Focus RS. Especially when considering the resale value of that car, and the fact that the platform only went out of production 4 years before the GR was introduced. Its frankly a direct competitor or better alternative imo.
I live in Sioux City Iowa. I have 2019 Corolla Se. It's an automatic BUT. What could they do to help up my power a little bit?
