- Hey all you cool cats and kittens! Thanks for watching another video! Today I show you all how I harvest and dry catnip! My cat Khaleesi goes CRAZY over the catnip I grow in my garden, over the stuff from the store! If you have a cat definitely consider growing some cat nip!

Great video. Just put some down for my cat thats ready to harvest and took the scissors out and we had an all out fight ha. After sniffing around it he wouldnt let me go near it.

Cats like the dried blossoms better than just the leaves.

I always let it flower, this was just early in the season.

How do you dehydrate catnip without a dehydrator?
My catnip nowhere near as large de lis look like miniature leaves compared to yours I have mine and hanging baskets and apparently that's not good enough what am I doing wrong what fertilizer do you use what potting soil do you use?
They can take a year to get to full size. They love a lot of light! At least in my experience. I havnt used any fertilizer on it this year but it’s in a area we put all fresh compost down. To get plants started I just use a organic potting mix. Have you tried other areas since they are in hanging baskets??
Hi! Do you know if I should stratify the seeds before planting (I live in Toronto, Canada)? Also, do you get a lot of stray cats? I'm a broke student and my place doesn't allow pets, so I'm hoping to at least attract some stray cats bc they're so cute!
I don't believe you have to, at least I never have. Thats awesome!! I attract a lot of the neighborhood strays this way. Always catch them laying in it!

Maybe I’m nose blind but my catnip isn’t very potent, it’s just starting to bloom so maybe I need to give it more time.
Roughly how long is the catnip good for after you dehydrated it?
That’s interesting! The moment I pick mine I can smell it, now that it’s flowering you may be able to smell it more, but typically no matter what stage it’s in mines pretty strong. I still have catnip from 2 years ago dried and it’s still great! Just gave my cat some the other day. I’m not 100% positive but since it’s dry you should be good for awhile
I got a catnip plant from PetSmart and planted it in my garden. It's a freaking, gigantic bush now 😂

How would i dry my catnip harvest if i dont have a dehydrater?
You can always harvest small bundles, tie them at the end, and hang upside down to dry for a few weeks! Or they have herb hangers. (Which I got after making this video) and I love it! Super easy to stuff herbs in and let go.

From my experience, yes!! Ive had this same plant for a few years now!

Yes, just make sure it clean and you can hang it upside down in a dry place or in the sun!

I actually took some seeds from the store bought catnip to grow the plant thinking they’d like it

What if you don’t have a dehydrator?
You can lay them on a cookie cooling rack in the sun or just hang them and they will dry super fast!!
Leave some plants to flower for the bees and butterflies ❤ they looooove it ❤

I always do, it was just really early in the season. I lll do a few big harvests
@@itsbreellis my flowers are ready to get clipped! I gotta sneak around the plants when the bees aren’t active! Night time is a good time to do it. The middle flowers are a good four inches. I’ll have another harvest in the fall.

You can also hang it. Theres a few different ways.
