This is the best grouting video I've seen. I don't have a bucket like you but I think a regular sponge and bucket should work fine.

Do you have a video where you go through the full process of waterproofing your bathroom from raw 2x4's to tiles?

Great info, thanks. As far as reactions and rapid set vs not. I'd think of rapid as more brittle if it cures fast. It probably strong or stronger than regular. There are accelerators in those. The fan would be a accelerator for conventional setting stuff and that seems bad. I'm not in a hurry. A contract job, speed is the name of that game. Thanks for taking the time. I'd rather had slow and long lasting.

sir, I just did grouting on my tiles, however my tiles are super porous and after grouting I see lot of haze and tiles have become rough to walk on and doesn't feel good towel. Any suggestions on how to make tiles smooth and remove haze. Its been 4 days since the grout work is done.

If anybody is using a regular sponge make sure you don’t go no more then maybe a foot per wipe and don’t allow that same spot on the sponge to touch the floor again so with a sponge having 2 sides and 4 edges you can get 2 real good wipes and 4 smaller wipes before having to ring it out … my whole point here is you don’t want to smear the grout you want to pick the grout up and remove it off the top of the tile and If you just wipe and wipe it smears the grout and not picking it up… another tip to remove haze use an old piece of carpet…. if you don’t have this cool sponge and bucket

@winni - I have been without a shower for months - I don’t know why doing this terrorizes me 😅 anyways - I bought the premixed grout and I don’t have that special sponge bucket. Can you give me some advice on anything I’ll need to do differently. Thank you!!!

  • @12thDecember

Rubi grout bucket is $40 at HD, includes a float as well as the sponge, so that's not a bad price. I already bought a float and sponge, though, so I think maybe I should just do it the old-fashioned way.

    • @MattCupan

Mix the grout to spec. And wring out sponge good before each wiping so not leaving bunch of water residue behind.
Change the water in bucket. Or, better, have another bucket of clean water to swap partially way through.
Just use cool, room temp water. Not warm or hot.
Softly wipe dry with towel, as does in video.

at min 2:08 he mentioned --> here, when u know when u're ready to start washing off ur grout --> 'once u're touching it, it's kind of dry to ur touch, its not sticking & at 2:19 'when i touch it & see, its sticking to ur finger, thats not ready to go'. so, which part sponge wont pick up the grouts in the joints? not sticking & sticking to ur finger??

The slower concrete takes to cure?... The stronger it is!!!!!
Some concrete structures have water cooling pipes plumbed through them to slow the curing time!
Don't hit self drying, chemical processes with a fan unless absolutely necessary!!!

Mix grout by hand, let's sit for a few minutes Remix by hand. Spread grout, first wash is to get the bulk, wait till it haze's up 10 to 20 minutes give it a second and final wash that you can fine-tune it. Let it Haze up and then buff it with a towel..... side note, do not wash more than twice you'll pull the color out

How you mix it and how long you leave it all depends on the grout you use. With MAPEI ultracolor plus or an epoxy grout you will ruin your tile following this advice. READ THE DIRECTIONS.

I just grouted last night, thanks for the tips. Wetting the tile before, is very helpful for less smearing and residue. Then hard high angle float scraping to remove the excess. I'm super happy with how well it came out.
Oh and the amount needed to do any area is super small. 40 sq foot space that took 1/3 of a gallon of total product. I mixed up a whole gallon, about half a bag of the 25 lb stuff. The towel trick too, for final wiping. Most just go a 1000 times in a bucket with sponge. No way, the haze is way harder to finally remove.
