Used to love watching them go past whilst I was walking to school.... Running the Merry go round to Ratcliff power station. They'd crank them up going through New Basford, what an amazing sight and sound. 20177 was my first engine number, will forever have a soft spot for the class20..... Brilliant footage...Thanks for bringing another 20 back to life......
Good video plenty of clagg from this whistling beast I used to love listening to them at Tinsley in 1986 there was always about 6 fired up talking to each other lol 😍🤩🥰
As a kid, I grew up with the Walsall - Rugeley line literally at the top of my garden. These locos were regulars in pairs on coal trains to and from Rugeley power station. The chirruping noise is very evocative.
Same here always after school hours visits to the local freight line to watch the choppers working takes of over 50 four wheeled stone carts down from Bardon Hill or other workings from Mantle Lane. We all loved the choppers could always see that high up headlight from a long way off and knew we were in for a visual treat!
Great vid , I remember this Loco when it was on fort William shed as pilot Loco for the BA plant and Corpach paper mill . It must of been sometime between late to mid summer 1984 or early summer 85. We took the Alcan empty’s back as far as Crainlarich with it, poor thing was flat out to a crawl with the amps well in the red going up loch Treig incline!! There was 4 west highland terriers on the Loco that day I remember 😉.
I used to go upto Tinsley every Sunday with my dad we would drive up from Ashton-under-Lyne and there was always a few 20s chirping away to each other they was the better days of loco spotting 😎
Who left the decompression plug loose ? Nice to see it running again hope it doesn't need TM re brush I blame them for predicament I'm in now . glad to see back of them . But they were a very us-full loco

Nice easy start. Well done!
Beautiful
With an engine it’s like a person. Vehicles, trains, they have personality!
That’s better than any super hero movie! Engineers bring a 20 whistling and spitting back to life👍
A Treat to See that Start up, with that Monster “Lump” Exposed. 👍🏻
Brilliant !!
With a bit of fettling I'm sure it will pass the Euro 3B regulations 😄😋

Someone left a decompressor valve open didn't they..
What are the chuffs from the middle cylinder? Sticking valve? Loose injector?
Nick Carrington relief valve just cracked open.
Great Stuff 👍
❤

What kind of engine does this unit have?
English Electric V8 cylinder
Hi mate! Nice video. Is it ok to feature your clip in a my channel?
Yes no problem. Please credit me
Lovely sound these 'gurler' 20's have!……
👍
Was that a successful start?
Yes and was shut down to check for any hot bearings or anything which were all found ok
fun fact you can hear another class 20 running in the background far away
Yes you're right!
Hello @johngoodale4961 where was the other class 20 you can hear running in the background Far away?
Hello @johngoodale4961 what other class 20 is running in the background far away
Think the head gasket/ compression valve is dead
And now look at 20048, a SVR staple
shame they turned it off i didnt see much issue
It was its first start up since engine overhaul. It was shut down after a couple of minutes to check bearing temperatures to make sure all is ok
