    As a Filipino, watching this makes me so proud! I wish I could learn FMA someday! (even for just defense strategies) A woman should learn how to protect herself too especially in this world lol
    This is a part of our history and culture that should be more acknowledged by our own people and even the rest of the world. More power to you FMA!!💪🏽🙂👏🏼

      We agree. Everyone has a right to defend themselves. Where are you located? Maybe we can help point you in the right direction in finding a FMA instructor.

      You are right! That's why i started learning this art last year! I'm pretty new! Still lot of things to learn and I'm enjoying learning it! Found a support group page for women FMA practitioners, it's great and helping me a lot! 😊

    i been trying filipino arts for years and this is the first time I seen it explained so well. the high guard in outward stretched arms makes so much sense.

    This is my preferred position as well. I would rather have a structure that funnels them to my center line.

      @GuroJeromeTeague 4 роки тому +3

      @@FMAPulse I like to have my hands up and in a passive position as shown in the video. It also forces the attacker to strike straight on my center line as opposed to any circular attacks like hooks. Because the attacker is only left with the centerline opening it makes defending a little easier because their options are limited. It also makes limb destructions and moving to the outside line easier

    Awesome video. Many thanks. Question : What is the purpose of that initial scissor move i. e. Where defender skims opponent's arm?

    • @FMAPulse
      @FMAPulse  4 роки тому +1

      The idea and theory with the scissor strike is to temporarily numb the opponent's arm so they can no longer use it. When disabling the limb, this gives you time to follow up with other strikes/or counters.

      Many thanks. I can understand how that would work if you had a blade and did that to opponent's arm but how would empty hand cause anything significant in the heat of a fight with adrenaline pumping?

    • @FMAPulse
      @FMAPulse  4 роки тому +1

      @@dmdm7690 By using the same scissor motion with the empty hand, you would strike with your inside knuckles to the person's bicep. GM APO explains it that, your actual target is the opponent's jaw. Using that same scissor motion, and depending on distance, you would have to slip, parry and strike the jaw at the same time.

    Would the exact same movement work if the the punch was made with the left hand with the left foot forward?

    • @FMAPulse
      @FMAPulse  4 роки тому

      In theory it should work the same. But you would have to reverse the scissor hand, instead of parrying left and striking with the right. It would be parrying with the right hand and striking with the left.

  • @loonylinn8824
    @loonylinn8824 3 роки тому

    no need to arm lock the opponent just finish him. always anticipate that your opponent is stronger and faster than you so better as much as possible finish him off.

    • @FMAPulse
      @FMAPulse  3 роки тому +1

      Depending on situation. Would you do that to a family member? Some has to control the situation like people who work in security, police, agents, etc. Using excessive force depending on the situation can get you into trouble, so it all depends on the context.

    We will not know if that was effective if the opponent is not resisting else were risking ourselves learning something not. I'm a Filipino and we know if that works on streets specially if your street is extremely delinquent.

    funny story, I saw this Grand Master when he was a young teacher competing in a sparring competition in Cincinnati Ohio against a great tang soo do fighter named Lou Rogers, Manuel jumped around and jumped around flitting his hands quickly fast, it was a point karate tournament that is no contact, and he was jumping in and out very fast, Lou Rogers punched him in the face and knocked him out!, I know it was against the rules, when Lou came over to the stands I said why did you do that Lou?, he said he was jumping around all crazy like that I wanted everybody to see who would really win that fight!, I wonder if the Grand Master remembers that haha, no disrespect intended
