Team cotton percale. I’m a hot sleeper even in winter so sateen is far too warm for me. I love the coolness of cotton percale and I’ve found that even though the sheets are “crisp” they feel soft and are so cool and comfortable to sleep in.
Same!! She hit the nail on the head with "a good quality men's crisp white dress shirt"!! I had a boyfriend at one time who let me sleep in his! I could buy my own, but even when laundered I could somehow still smell him in it. Even if it was psychological!! Hehe. Plus... I read an article in Cosmo once many years back that did a poll with men about lingerie vs no lingerie and which they found the sexiest. Across the board most men found his partner dressed in nothing but an oversized men's white dress shirt (preferably his) to be the sexiest thing a woman can wear to bed. Just as an FYI...TMI too probably but it reminded me of the article. Assuming you are female and didn't know this already I thought you'd enjoy my nostalgia and how we as women always put so much pressure on ourselves when men really do just want something classic and simple most of the time. It could contain other sexual identities, however this article and the poll itself was only taken from and written about the above mentioned. I wasn't excluding anyone personally. Blame Cosmo in the 90s for that one! Heh Maybe it was after that Sharon Stone movie scene??? Hehe
Watched several comparison videos like this today and yours is the first that has demonstrated or mentioned that "rustling" sound that percale makes. I have a set of percale sheets from Brooklinen, very nice quality, have held up really well over the several years we've had them, but I'm over the loud "rustling" sound. Hasn't lessened with washing as I hoped. They are smooth and soft and no issues with quality, but yes, they are just as loud as my husband's crisp white cotton button-down work shirts, lol. Just my own annoyance, but it's something I notice every night as I typically toss and turn (mattress issue, not the sheets).
Sateen here. Love the look and the smooth soft feel on my skin. Never had a problem with it feeling too warm, if that would be the case I'd just stick a leg or an arm out to cool off.
Prefer crisp and thick cotton percale BUT just bought Kirkland Signature NEW Pima cotton sateen...680 tc for $79.99 king at warehouse (89.99 online). They are the lightest sateen I’ve ever found. Still a tad warm in August but will be great winter cotton. Came with 4 pillowcases. Super high quality with 1” all around elastic on fitted sheet and generous size flat sheet. Laundered well and dried in 35 minutes on LOW! So great energy saver in the dryer for us frequent launderers. I do highly recommend. Liked them so much I bought some for our vacation rental as well. Gift worthy sheets in case you all need Christmas gift ideas.

Thank you for a really useful video. I've often wondered what the difference is, and after all these years I now know that I have a set of each. I like them them both but prefer the percale. That crisp cool feeling....love it.
I like sheets that stay up over you, especially my legs. By that I mean they do not drop down between leg# etc and you can turn over under them and they do nor roll with you. Hope that makes sense. I have had high count supima cotton that I really liked. Percale I guess
Thank you for the explanation! I'm a back sleeper and I have been using standard cotton sheets for years. I've used sateen sheets before, and they are nice, but as you mentioned, it does feel warmer. I'm going to try Percale and see what happens!
I used to be all about sateen, for thirty years or so. But now I've become a percale fan. In fact I gave all my sateen sheets away. Sateen is great. The softness is amazing but I need to sleep cool. I can no longer handle the heat that sateen sheets hold. I like the soft yet crisp feel of percale. I'm not a fan of the super crisp but just a little crispness. I like how they don't slide around so much and the really like that they DON'T have a sheen to them. They gave me the more homey feeling. The idea that they are somehow old fashioned and speak of a different time. It's silly but I really enjoy the feeling that they are clean and fresh. Sateen gives me a different psychological feeling. Sateen is a different psychological experience for me. At a time when I had more feminine tastes, I preferred sateen. The softness of them. I find them more sophisticated (psychological). The bad thing is that Percale sheets are so hard to find now! Most stores, online in brick and mortar don't even carry them. Most only come in 200 thread count where I prefer 400 and finding them made with supima, pima and egyptian cotton is near impossible. I finally found them at two online stores and bought 8 sets because I know I won't be able to find them again, should the stores stop carrying them. Basically it's about sleeping cool and hot, Sheen or no sheen and the psychological feeling they give me. Percale
Question!!! How does supima compare to Egyptian cotton? I have a couple 100% Egyptian cotton sheet sets (not sateen just Egyptian) and I wish I had bought more because I can't find my brand anymore! They are SO soft and have held up amazingly well. (I've tried 600 thread count sets that can't even touch the softness of mine.) But my question is.... have you ever tried the Casaluna supima percale sheets? Is supima anywhere close to being as soft or as durable to Egyptian cotton?

Thanks for explaining the differences. I'm percale all the way. I just layer up in winter. My bed is made sheet, blanket, sheet. Love the weight of the layers with the crispness of percale.
You actually make the mattress fitted sheet, blanket, then top sheet? So you're laying on sheet, but covering with blanket to skin and topsheet on the outside?? Maybe I'm confused... I'm honestly curious. Not trying to come off like anything I just honestly wonder what you mean and how it makes a difference to you. Thanks.

There was only five left, so he bought them, and they were the most insane, thick, crisp comfortable sheets we've ever slept on. I wish I could remember the brand. Then, last year, my boss's mother bought me (I work as an assistant for the family) bought me some sheets for Christmas from a company called Pizuna. Again, these sheets are thick, heavy when you take them out of the washing machine, crisp as ever and soooo comfortable. The tag says, "long staple cotton" but I don't know if they're percale or sateen. There is no sheen at all to them. I'm not a big fan or sateen, but I don't know if they're percale either, because they're so crisp, but very thick. Also, they are 1 ply, which is very important. I wish someone could help me identify what sort of sheets these are, because I need another set. One other sheet I remember from way back in the 90s, was some my mom bought me from Martha Stewart called "T-shirt" or "Jersey" cotton sheets. They felt like you were sleeping on a giant t-shirt! I would give anything to find some of those again, but Martha isn't making them anymore and I don't want to buy just any, because they'll start pilling, which I detest. So, my # 1 sheet kind is the crisp, matte kind that is heavy & thick. 2nd would be the jersey or t-shirt kind and lastly, sateen.
I’m a percale lover and in need of a new duvet cover to pop over my percales. I have hand disability that prevents me ironing sheets (oh Lord!) but so I wonder about putting a sateen cover on the duvet for less wrinkling as even with percale, I tend to kick off the sheets at night. Thankful for the product Granmas Wrinkle Remover which is a wonder worker though seems to have made a bit of crunchy buildup on this Tercel duvet cover that I’m so tired off (some fool edged it with linen! Awful mess!) Thanks for any help. Loved your vid and love crispy clean percale!
I can’t find what I like. I had a Martha Stewart King size, but since I downsized, I can’t find this sheet anywhere. What I like about it was that it was so cold that you had to go to bed fully dressed before you could get comfortable. It was fantastic for summer. I’ve ordered Percale and it is rough. The sateen, pills and is too hot. I’m desperate!
@@Ohkeh640 I like them, they are exactly how she described them, crisp, shinny, gorgeous sheets, they don't wrinkle so much. I got Vera Wang 60% cotton 40% polyester (maybe this is the reason I feel them to be warm) I'm in FL and I loved using them during our cold fronts season lol, but I'll try not to use them in the Summer.
Percale for breathability. Neither of use like the sheets with sheen. Can't seem to find the perfect sheets. We keep buying and returning Costco sets as they always turn out to be the Sateen type. We bought some "Pure Earth" sheets last year but they seem to have shrank a bit over time so now they are hard to put on. So the search continues...
Percale tends to wrinkle.....I prefer heavier and more silky soft sheets. Usually Percale pound for pound is less expensive than the same company's sateen set. Ahh...buttery. Good concise but, detailed explanation. As we should know, sheets are manipulated by thread count, fiber quality and manufacturing. I'm not joining a sheet team. ;) I do give a "sheet" though. The best Sateen sheets to me are the more expensive, softer and almost cold to touch/shiny due to very high thread count and materials - very expensive.
I do come at this from an admittedly ridiculous perspective. I have always been fascinated by jacquard looms, which you use to make sateen; not just because of their fundamental importance to the Industrial Revolution but also because their punch card system formed the basis of modern computing. So, when I look at a sateen sheet, I always think about the profound impact their manufacture had on the world.
I always purchased sateen sheets but I had an 800tc that my husband shredded I kid you not. So after we got married I figured I better look into something more durable. I’m sleeping on percale for the first time and they’re only 300tc but feel buff and sturdy. I am praying they hold up better than the sateen ones I had.
Yes 100% cotton sheets can be produced in a sateen weave, still 100% cotton just a different feel, a little heavier, more satin-like and may sleep a little warmer!
I want my grandmother's extra crispy, extra thick, extra cool sheets! If I need to go back to starching, hanging them on the clothesline, and then ironing them, I will. I just cannot seem to find the heavy-weight, percale weave sheets anymore. Help! The percale sheets I have purchased over the past few years have felt crisp and cool but they are thin and too coarse and cat hair pills up on them (cats sleep on top of the comforter, not in between the sheets.) Also, they are so coarse that it is difficult to turn over in a nightgown. It's like sleeping on velcro. I don't buy $400 sheets but I don't totally cheap out either. I try to buy quality when it's on sale.

Thankful for the product Granmas Wrinkle Remover which is a wonder worker though seems to have made a bit of crunchy buildup on this Tercel duvet cover that I’m so tired off (some fool edged it with linen! Awful mess!)
Thanks for any help.
Percale for me. I learned a lot from your video, thank you!
Great Video! Just placed an order for Sateen! Wish I'd come across video before my purchase! Lol I will let you know if i like them.
Hope you enjoy it!
Percale also seems to be a magnet for pet hair.
Nope too difficult, I love both

I hate the stiff restaurant napkin feel.
So glad I found this UA-cam !
Is percale also suitable for winter? I’m after a super soft, comfy and warm bedding set
Thanks. I've learned something new reading this.

UA-cam asked me to rate your comment and choose a word to describe it out of about 6. I rated excellent and chose informative.
You don't need a jacquard loom to make sateen you only need a tappet loom
percale!! just got some from brooklinen and they are amazing!

Percale all the way!😍
Sateen, I like the silky feel
I always purchased sateen sheets but I had an 800tc that my husband shredded I kid you not. So after we got married I figured I better look into something more durable. I’m sleeping on percale for the first time and they’re only 300tc but feel buff and sturdy. I am praying they hold up better than the sateen ones I had.
Thanks for sharing.
Helpful video, I'm going to search for Percale!
I guess if I want warm I'll get flannel or another blanket. Sateen seems more my speed.
Which hold up better with 4 cats 🙀?
I love the thought of sateen sheets but I run hot when i sleep so... percale it is. Thanks for the video!
I have a percale one and I love it
What’s best for people with hairy dogs?
They both seem very crispy. I want something that feels soft and drapey like microfiber but more breathable
Percale sounds interesting!
Percale. Crisp, cool & clean feel.
Love that crisp feeling!
Percale here sleeps cool great video tons of information
Percale invokes childhood memories!
Tanx for information I feel I am in college. What is the thread count? Tanx
Sateen for me, mainly because of the feel, and I tend to sleep with the room temp lower than 65.
Cotton percale for the hot humid summers and polar fleece for the bitter cold winters.
SATEEN - WINKLE FREE, can't find them, HELP!
Percale all the way. Good video.
Carmen Anderson ironing sheets just going to sleep in then anyway
Great education, thx.
Percale for me, sateen for the gift I'm buying
Very helpful video! I’m a hot sleeper and I just got a 100% cotton percale duvet cover from West Elm 🌿💕
I found that bamboo sheets are great if you're a hot sleeper. Can't use them in the winter months because they never warm up, lol.
Sleep with a wool blanket! It keeps you so cool and cozy ❤
seems percale cotton-poly blend is the best.
Sateen. Love the heavyweight and silky, shiny feel. But percale for the pillowcase for my sweaty forehead when I sleep lol
Good Information. I want Crisp cool sheets and percale sounds like that
Great video! Wow I needed this :) I went with sateen!
Wonderful!
SATEEN WITH BAMBOO SOFT BUT NOT THICK!🤓😬
Great video! I'm team satin!
Thanks for explaining the difference 🙂
Honestly I think I'm going to buy multiple sheets. I can't take money with me after I die. Sleep is important.
I have all linen with a thicker linen bedspread. Tekla is my favorite. Edit: open weave
Love my Casper Percale sheets but they’ve been discontinued! 😭

Have you reviewed the Nectar sheets and pillows? Would love to see that one!
I haven't yet! I'll get it on my list
Mattress Clarity awesome! Thanks!
Pecale sounds better to me. Thanks for review.
Has to be percale, love the crispness !!!
Can get sateen from 100% cotton ? Also what thread count is get good hand feeling? Plz explain me? Coz I use only percale
Yes 100% cotton sheets can be produced in a sateen weave, still 100% cotton just a different feel, a little heavier, more satin-like and may sleep a little warmer!
Helpful. Thank you.
Glad it was helpful!
Great video thank you very much.
Glad you liked it!
Thank you so much
Any time
You couldn’t pay me to sleep on sateen sheets. Only percale and ONLY from Red Land Cotton. Completely made in the southern US and heirloom quality!
@@Ohkeh640 Yes that’s the only sheets I will ever have
Thank you ❤
Sateen for me, live in Wyoming...lots of chilly nights with windows cracked open
