Thread count refers to the number of threads woven into a square inch of fabric. Some sheets can go as low as 100, or as high as 1500 and above! But thread count only influences two things in sheets: how soft the sheets are and how cool they sleep.
Sheets with a higher thread count tend to be softer than low-count sheets, but they also tend to trap more heat. Sheets with a lower thread count are generally more breathable and sleeper cooler than high-count sheets.
When buying sheets, we recommend paying attention to material as much as (or even more than!) thread count. Material is often the most important factor when determining the price and quality of a sheet set. If you are looking at thread count, try to stay between 200 and 800, as anything higher than 1000 may be artificially inflated. Ultimately, the best thread count comes down to your personal preference!

150 weft counts per cm? per inch?
I have a question. I have a set of 220 thread count percale sheets from 🎯 and after not even 6 months, the fitted sheet is looking thin and like it will rip soon. Is this because it’s a poor quality fiber and not because it’s a low thread count?
Well let’s face it that’s not a high end set, more of an average low range. You may be washing them on the wrong setting but after 6 months sounds like normal wear and tear.

Hi I received 1800 count sheets as part of my wedding gifts over 30 years ago and I am still using those sheets. I have found any thread count less than 800, the sheets begin to get old and beaded really soon within 3 months of constant usage and washing. So from someone that has been paying attention to the thread count, if you love the sheets, get higher thread count. It is not a marketing tactic. You want it to last, get higher thread counts.

This isn’t true at all. Higher thread counts disintegrate in the washer.
