It was amazing to watch. When Rylee ran 45 seconds faster than she did last year, solo, at Cool Breeze, I knew she was going to be competitive at Woodbridge, but not that competitive lol.
I just hope she is nurturing her body enough to not get injured. From my own personal experience, I can spot girls’ who may fall down the path I went, and it seems like she may be going down it too. Once you’re injured it’s a never ending cycle, especially if you’re at such a low weight like this. She is no doubt underweight for her height. Yes, weight does play a role in running, but if you’re at a normal weight you should have no issues, but once you get above a certain weight the weight can literally weigh you down. On the contrary, once you get below a certain weight for your height & strength build, then you’ll end up not being able to strengthen your bones & muscles thus more susceptible to injuries.
@@kengineer12 I always hope that all girls and boys are eating in a healthy way and getting what their body needs. She is skinny, so are many runners, but if she needs to eat more that doesn’t necessarily mean she’s got a problem. Many runners, boys and girls, eat too few calories for how much they run. Do they run the same distance as the boys? I mean, dang! When I was a junior, I ran 16:08 and was fourth in state. How can she be that much faster? Holy moly!
@@T1MB05L1C3 Which is odd. Why not add the .1 miles for the 5K to make it standard. It's still crazy fast, although I've never seen a flatter cross country course.
After sadie's stellar track season, I expected a higher finish. Goes to show, the race is run on the course, not on paper! Those young ladies are awesome!
These young ladies are amazing and fast. Ok. So this is a little confusing. When I ran CC many years ago I ran over gravely and sandy hills, muddy river bottoms, steep inclines, and hilly golf courses etc. This looks like flat land running with no terrain challenges. Has the definition of CC changed over the decades? This like a grass warm up for track and CC.
Courses have varying levels of terrain difficulty. This course is an easy one. What's the confusion? I have been involved with XC since the early 90s and nothing's changed. You just say "oh it's a fast course", no?
This course is much easier and a lot of California courses are like this - very flat / turf-like. That’s why a lot of Californians can struggle at national meets when the courses vary + have real grass / mud. They’re still amazing runners in their own right, but the courses they run are almost always much easier.
@@strawberryboba970 Were you on the current Great Park course? I think this version was only run this year and last (based on a comment by Evan when he won the sweepstakes last year).

Nothing, she hasn't really improved at 3 miles since her sophomore year. She was third here last year. She was 26th at NXN (on a very tough course). She shines in the track middle distances.
@@paxundpeace9970 Even for her age? I wasn't criticizing her, she is an amazing runner. I was answering the question. Nothing happened to her and she is still elite but she hasn't shown much improvement in Cross Country the past 48 months.
Engelhardt took a much longer break this season and didn’t start working out until a little bit before this race (since she was at the Olympic trials for the 1500m, she needed a long break). She’s also not the most well known for xc, but still very good.
It's not but like SilverLakes (where Leo and Nico ran fast) it is intended to be a fast course. No hills, flat, sweeping turns, short grass and pavement. The original Woodbridge course was flat and started to get a rep for being a good course for early season fast times so they decided to embrace that to help grow the event. Mt. Sac is not exactly 3 and has hills, Fresno (Woodward Park) has hills, Foot Locker (San Diego) has a hill, NXN is a beast and they try to make it muddy and dumb so it is a chance for Woodbridge to shine (and draw). Edit: forgot to mention that Foot Locker and NXN are also 5k, not 3 miles. Edit 2: Mt. Sac is changing it's invitational course this year (and removing poop out hill). I'm not sure if they will get the exact 3 standard moving forward but it still has two big hills. I don't know if CIF will use the new course or the old one.
This is California ! A lot of their courses are like this, for some reason. It’s just the way it is :) they do get clowned on for it though haha. I’m from Michigan where the courses are usually drenched in mud, snow, there’s 40mph winds, etc. but we all have to race the same national meets / courses so it evens out in the end !
They don't count Mt. Sac because it doesn't match the exact 3-mile standard for their regular course. The time you are referring to was run on the rain course so I'm guessing they didn't get that standard either as it is an alternate rarely used course. The Mt. Sac invitational is switching to a different course (no poop out hill, finishing on the track) this year but I don't know if that one will meet the standard but with the two big hills that is unlikely anyway (although a girl did run 15:46 on a modified version of the old hill course once). I'm not clear if CIF is going to use the new course or not.
Give it shot. Honestly it's not that hard. The fatal mistake non-runners make is running WAY WAY WAY too fast, then dying 2-3mins into a run, and then thinking, "I can't run". JOG/Shuffle slowly and you can probably get through 5K in around 30-35mins. As you continue running, your times will drop. Key takeaway: START your run SLOWER than you finish it.
Rylee's running is so smooth and looks so effortless!

This isn’t real XC course. Need to go to Van Cortland park in Bronx NY to get a real course
Why not use drones for better camera coverage?
We use drones when we can but not all locations allow for them. Flying over crowds is also an issue as that is against FAA rules.
