I spent hours today researching my next (third) pair of hearing aids, and getting very confused. I'm a physician & musician and should be able to sift through this stuff after wearing them for years, but the Web and visiting (possibly) brand-pushing audiologists didn't give me reliable comparisons. . . . Then I saw this video (Top Six RIC for 2023). THANKS! Now to watch your individual reviews. . . .

I saw a comment that stated the discussion of the topic was too fast. For those that find the speed of Dr. Cliff’s videos too fast to keep up, UA-cam has setting options to slow down playback speed. 75% is slightly slower than video and can help with speech reading and clarity. It does take a little getting used to but once you are used to the sound, it allows better speech understanding and enough time for the brain to process what is being said. I find changing this setting helps.

I just listened to this a second time because once Signia changed their app for my current Signia HA I’m missing all the options I could choose from myself using the old app. This may cause me to purchase new HA before I’d really need them. AAR, I do need to slow the video down or repeat several times to get all the main points of Phonak versus Oticon. My brain isn’t processing as fast as Dr Cliff is talking here. I love all the detailed info!

I LOVE my Starkey Evolv AIs - I work in live theatre and find them to be great for music as well as spoken word. I have Meniere's and the Fall Alert is a great peace of mind for myself and family as I live alone. The app is great with many features to help you make custom settings that I can use when listening to music or podcasts. The table mic is AWESOME in meetings as is the mini remote mic I can clip on someone for one-on-one conversation. Edge mode is great in restaurants and bars - such a difference! The translation feature will talk to you, but it will print out on the screen what you say in the other language so you can show whomever you are talking to to have a conversation. The transcribe feature could use some work, but is a great feature as well.

Love the videos. Was just in the market for new aids and really wanted the cros. I have severe hearing loss in my left ear (basically deaf) and moderate in my right ear. Have had a Resound for several years. Really like it. Tried the new Signia and really liked them (cros AX) but they have a lot of quality issues. First paired died in week. Wouldn't power up and when they did were intermittent (non-rechargeable). Second pair worked for about a day and did the same thing. Really wanted to like them but if they don't work, no point in having them especially for the cost $,5,000.00. Went back to Resound and the new Omnia. No issues, works great. Just wish they made a cros version.

I haven't upgraded my smartphone to be compatible with the Starkey Thrive app yet. It sure makes a difference to see a good audiologist. I've been going to the same one for over 20 years. She set up 4 different programs. I prefer meeting as my main mode. I have normal, restaurant and auditorium as my other choices. I've been playing with the edge mode too. I am interested in a hearing aid. I like most older people suffer from loss of high frequencies and have trouble making out voices with several conversations going on at the same time.
I want something that lets me have total control of the configuration by using an app on a cell phone. Adjust the frequency response letting me tailor it to my hearing loss myself without the need of assistance. I have had hearing test done in the past verifying the hearing frequency range loss. Are there any hearing aids that let the consumer adjust the response just like
he was adjusting a audio equalizer for a stereo. Play with the frequency range and levels until it corrects for the frequency loss.

Doc, I have some minor but noticeable hearing loss in my left ear (diagnosed 5 or 6 years ago). I wound up with a Signia Pure. Initially I was able to wear it for a few hours without issue and it helped some. However, I began experiencing irritation (itchiness) where the dome was inside my ear canal and could wear the darn thing more that a half hour or so. Then it would drive me crazy. I cleaned the dome every time before I wore it so I don’t think that was a cause. Audiologist gave me some sort of lubricating/moisturizing oil to apply inside my ear canal. No help. I gave up and quit wearing the hearing aid. I notice now that I have further deterioration of hearing in my left ear so want to revisit getting a new hearing aid. I very much don’t want to spend a chunk on money on an in canal unit. I almost went out and bought the Sony CRE-E10 but decided to wait until after my hearing test. I’m schedule to get my hearing tested but wondered what your thoughts are for my situation.

I love music and sadly the turhearing brand hearing aids I have now, makes music sound like its coming from a walky talky. they do help alot with speech though. I'm moderate to severe hearing loss. I'm considering oticon mores and widex moments assuming I can either find a way to afford them, or get them covered by my insurance. I'm having trouble finding info online about this kind of issue as mostly people seem interested in speech recognition over music. I want to stream music via Bluetooth and have it sound full and rich like my headphones, and listening to live music or practicing my guitar and mandolin, have it sound full and rich and clear. no doubt you've encountered patients with similar requests so I'd like to see a video addressing this issue and offering advice. thanks! oh and as an aside what do you do when you would like real ear measurements and best practices but are limited to what your insurance will offer and none of those hearing aid providers have this? and you can't afford to pay yourself for that? thanks again!

Thank you, Dr.C liff. The print was so small in the Phonak Marvel user manual I couldn't read it. These are extremely expensive hearing aids. Why couldn't the company provide an adequate user manual, particularly for those getting along in their years and wearing glasses? The company website did not provide instructions on cleaning their hearing aids; I had to go to UA-cam for help. The company's plastic tools used for cleaning their hearing aids are cheaply made. And if something goes wrong with the Phonak hearing aids or they need to be replaced, the company charges $300 to replace or repair the item. This company is about price gouging and is not at all interested in their customers. Not a good company!

For me the beltone’s were horrible, they did not solve the problem and were painful to wear. Maybe it was the guy who fit them didn’t know what they were doing hard to say. Then they tried the custom ear molds and the discomfort was worse and I still couldn’t hear much better, my wife was always asking why I didn’t have my hearing aids in when I was wearing them. You may have better success but for me I took them back within the 60 return period for a full refund.

@@richardschaaf9708 Any concerns on the rechargeable battery versus standard coin cell? • @richardschaaf9708
      @richardschaaf9708 Рік тому +2

@@lamortnoir1887 The key is to have your audiologist submit the aids for battery problems just prior to the end of your warranty and request a battery replacement. Thus you can extend the useful life of your aids to about 5 years. I am trialing the Phonak lumity now and will probably try the active vent. I find them better then the Resound for actual hearing but the app for the Phonak is still slow and will lose connection to the aids at least twice a day. I believe this is due to the use of Bluetooth as opposed to MFI-WI-FI used by Resound.

I have had hearing aids since 2006 - started with Widex - found that were best for musicians like me - have had two pairs - but my new audiologist in Hemet CA convinced me to buy Oticon. I felt I was already going to use his service because he let me try Windex moment and they did not work at all. Then found out he does not do the real ear measurement (no Equipment). I do not know what to do. My Oticons don't feel right. Will another audiologist near me even consider using real ear measurement even thought I already have hearing aids. Would you see me if i came to Phoenix?

My dad struggles to understand the speech during a normal conversation let alone a noisy place. He has used Signia, then Widex and finally seems to be ok with Resound. All said and done... With hearing aids... U need to focus directly towards the person on the other end else it is hard to understand the speech!

I've been trialing a Widex aid and I really like it for most natural sound. It sounds better than 4 other brands I've tested recently including oticon, unitron and signia. I should clarify this and say I've found these the best for live music or listening to music out loud. I do not like the sound of streaming music via any hearing aid as I only have loss in one ear. You gotta go test them out and see what works for you, whilst I like the Widex I am finding some feedback issues and in situations with high wind or can noise they struggle, I am hoping this is just fine tuning issues.

I have issues with high frequency sounds, especially with speech and people talking to me in busy area's so I got a pair of the Phonak Audeo Lumity 90L and I hate them. The sound is terrible. Ive had them setup several times by my Audiologist and still hate them. The App is garbage and doesn't connect or stay connected. When i update my settings in the App i have to do it 3 to 4 times to get it to take even though it say it did. The touch to answer a call is so sensitive that it activates all the time on its own or from just the touch of my ear's. i had to have that feature disabled. I also have the charger case for them and that works well, but no big difference than any other top brand.
I just switched to the Oticon More's and love the sound of them. They make the sound "Real" feeling. Not the hissing and noise that the Phonak has. I've only had the Oticon for a week now and so far they are great. I have Samsung phone's(3 of them) and all work and connect perfect. No disconnects or glitches. They just work. Don't be afraid to get Oticon's if your not an Apple Phone user They work perfect with Android. They also have their new charger case just like Phonak's and it also charges with USB "C" and give you several re-charges of your hearing aids.
If you need hearing aids go you your Audiologist get tested then ask for Oticon More's to try.
One thing is DON'T buy a hearing aid off of the "Feature's" it has, but buy one's that help you hear correctly first, then try to get the "Features" you want as a bonus.
