I recently got diagnosed with a 4cm rolling hiatus hernia and acid reflux after years of physical, mental and emotional pain and the stress of fighting with my doctors just to be taken seriously. One thing I did learn while my doctors were ignoring me is, our stomach systems is really in tune with our emotional and mental state. Realising that made me think back to my childhood I always had an anxious stomach as a child sometimes we carry all our trauma experiences in our bodies without even realising it. Im currently doing therapy for the first time so I can heal my negative past experiences. I am so sorry the surgery didn't heal you but don't give up hope, keep researching this horrible disease. You are in my prays I hope we all find our healed self again.

I completely agree with you… all my problems really started when I was over stressed and had really bad anxiety and now unfortunately it’s a vicious circle! Thank you and I’m praying for you too 🙏🏻

Georgia - you and I are basically clones of eachother. My primary complaint is the same exact thing as you (breathing issues/ severe lung sensitivity). I'm at the world's leading breathing hospital (National Jewish in the US). I've been working on this for 7 years. My doctor basically wrote the book on when and how to do Nissen. There are two components to the breathing aspect of this disease. There is reFLUX and reFLEX. The reFLUX component is what Nissen is intended to fix. When acid goes back up your esophagus and you aspirate it into the lungs. The reFLEX component is when the stomach and nerves send panic signals to the vagus nerve which inflames your lungs. I had Nissen 6 weeks ago hoping it would solve my issues and it did not. I'm in the same boat as you now. I am going down the road of attempting to figure out the reflex component now. Feel free to reach out to me, I hope you are doing better.

Pepsin is usually involved also as in my case. COVID causes multiple complications in all Organ systems including Nervous System and plays havoc with the Cranial nerves especially Vagus Nerve hence GI problems

I agree that everybody heals at different rates, so you maybe one of those people that will take a year! Maybe you are worrying too much which is causing the extra acidity! Have you tried alkaline water? It helps me a lot. Also, there are stretches and exercises you can do to help with diaphragm and hiatal hernia issues! Stay strong and positive!

I'm a nightmare case. I live in Philadelphia PA,USA and went to Temple Hospital end of 2006 at 28 years old They did barium swallows, esophageal manometry tests and a few others before saying I need the laparoscopic fundoplication. Got it September 06. By New Year's day of '07 I was back in the hospital. I had herniated the fundoplication, lost 40 lbs and couldn't eat or drink. They did an open fundoplication and it was horrible. 6 inch scar on my stomach and a closed hole/ scar on my left side where the gtube was.
Here I am 16 years later at 44 years old and I can't work out, can't do planks and can't left heavy materials because if I do, my entire stomach bloats and I get dysphagia, which is horrible. I think I have a lot of scar tissue and I do throw up from time to time, so it means the open fundoplication operation failed. I came on here to research thinking " man, the procedure has had to have gotten better over the years" and of course, to no avail.
Now I'm looking at trying to see a GI to remove the scar tissue.
Good luck with everything, you seem quite young to be going thru this bullshit.

It could be nerve damage in the vagus nerve. It can cause continued cough and difficulty breathing

Thanks for posting this video. I know it was not fun to film. I had the LINX device removed due to poor esophageal motility which caused it to fail after 1 year and then did the Toupet (270 degree) wrap. I was considering a redo as Nissen but after seeing your story I’ll just do a takedown bc I can’t do another failed surgery and my life was fine before (I’d gladly take PPIs forever at this point)
If you have good esophageal motility you might consider LINX. Also, you have an option not available to us in the U.S. called RefluxStop, which sounds Interesting but it’s new and so no longterm data and info online is spotty.

Have you tried the opposite of antacids? I've had a fair bit of success drinking apple cider vinegar, has to do with the esophageal sphincter not closing properly when the stomach is not acidic enough. Even drinking too much water seems to add pressure and open up the upper stomach sphincter. I've had the same exact symptoms as you and things seem to be improving. Also taking inhaled steroids and salbutamol still. Look up GERD/Silent reflux and some things to take - alginates (creates a floating raft in your stomach to mechanically prevent reflux). Hope you see this message and try it out. A lot of american doctor specialists on youtube talkong about GERD/LPR/asthma link. All the best!

I feel your pain, I hate GERD/reflux. I get so many random symptoms and ppis don't really work for me. Lately I've been having shallow breathing which I hate. I was hoping to get Stretta or Linx, but the insurance said it's experimental so a partial fundoplicacion is my only option. I'm going to wait bc I have a kid on the way, but I feel your pain. Stay strong.
