I have a small hiatal hernia. I have a small frame at 130 lbs. I am a male and like to do a lot of sit up crunches. Did this cause my hiatal hernia, I don't know. I am now 70 years old and I have had this pain and pressure and burning for about 3 years now. I also had burning way up in my throat. My GI doctor did an endoscopy and saw that my esophagus was red and inflamed. What works for me is laying down on the floor. I now keep my wife's yoga mat in front of the TV. I will watch an hour or more show laying on this mat. I will stretch while I lay there because I can't just lay and do nothing. When I lay down on the mat I then get relief. I will twist my body back and forth for my stretching for a minute each side or just separate my knees and lay there. I will also do some light crunches or butt bridges for my glutes. This always makes my pain go away. The floor is my friend. Now for what I may eat or drink to solve some issues. I get some pressure at my LES or lower esophageal sphincter or hiatus. What I do is drink about a cup of yogurt kefir. Keifir is like Pepto Bismol for me. That soothes my LES. I also experimented with 2 or 3 ounces of red wine. This always works to lower my pain. My GI doctor tells me that this makes no sense that this small amount of red wine does the trick. You swallow it slowly and let it soak your LES in your upper stomach. I can''t believe it works. It may have something to do with the fermentation of the wine. I don't drink alcohol either but I don't call this drinking. Try 2 to 3 oz of red wine. I have never tried white wine as my wife only buys red wines. I also discovered a product called EsophaCool tablets. They are made by a company called Life Extension in a blue bottle. I get them from Vitacost for $9 for 60 tablets. For 9 bucks and the stuff works? I am all over that. They remind me of Tums but are a different kind of product. Try them and see. I can't believe I found something that actually works. They are chewable and you are supposed to take two but one always works for me. I keep them with me all the time. I eat one when I am out and about and am having an issue. They work every time. My wife found them for me. They cool my esophagus and I swear by them. I always have a bottle of them in my vitamin cabinet. A bottle may last me two months or more. I have tried Tums, esomeprazole, apple cider vinegar, cold water, peppermint tea, Pepto Bismol and omeprazole. The omeprazole worked for about 30 days and then it didn't do anything. My sister has this issue and lives on Prilosec every day. I am not going that route though. I told her about the EsophaCool but she is stubborn and doesn't listen to me. She's a year older than me. Her loss and her health. Anyhow that what works for me and I have been playing around with this problem for 3 years now. I always go to my GI doctor once a year for a checkup too. Anyhow, enjoy and try some of these tricks. I tell all my friends with this problem and they either listen or suffer. Thanks for reading and good luck with your GERD or hiatal hernia.
I have a very large paraesophageal hernia WITHOUT GERD. My main symptom is shortness of breath. My surgeon want to do lap repair with mesh and partial fundoplication. Since I don’t have gerd, why can’t I just have the hernia repaired without the wrap?
My mother is suffering with GERD. She is unable to swallow food even difficulty in drinking water. Slavia coming out from mouth regularly. When she drink milk or juice liquid started coming back thr mouth from both sides.
Same! I do get acid reflux after a night of drinking, but otherwise I don’t have it. My symptoms are occasional severe pain, burping, distended stomach, and discomfort as I feel the stomach go into the esophagus.

I will need surgery I was told. I finally got insurance and I'm going Friday for my first appointment with a specialist. I'm nervous but I can't continue thus throwing up and sever reflux.
Not sure if fundoplication can be described as "restoring" because you are reshaping the stomach in a shape that is not given by nature. I've heard people may have weird other symptoms after fundoplication, such as being unable to burp, gas accumulation, or difficulty vomiting. In my case, in addition to hiatal hernia with GERD, I also have a slow stomach, and thus burping and drinking acid drinks is very important to me - if I don't do that, the stomach has difficulties digesting everything in time and I may have vomiting seizures or just feel heaviness and sickness that I have to fight against. For this reason, it's also bad for me to use too much antacids or proton pump inhibitors because then there is not enough acid for my stomach to digest it all in time.
Yes every weird thing you do to your body brings even more complications. I personally try every simple thing that may help before I’d let anyone open my body up. I know a lot of people are in pain, but maybe take a strong pain killer and then try to make a sensible decision.
I’m desperate for answers for my 60 year old brother who lives in Florida. For a year he’s been having significant, life disrupting symptoms that have yet to be diagnosed. He describes it as “extreme pain when things start sliding around inside,”. In addition he has started having cardio symptoms when he has an “episode” which he NEVER had prior. He’s had numerous tests, and because things constantly move around, it has been difficult to diagnose - not to mention that his doctors are VERY dismissive. I’m wondering if it’s the medical system in Florida that has failed him, and if he might get better care up north (I live in CT)? Until the past year, he was very active, healthy and fit, loving life, and I so desperately want to see him return to this!!! Does anyone have any recommendations as to where/how he might receive a diagnosis and treatment, and if it’s worth abandoning his medical plan in Florida for a national plan where he might get some real help!
I would suggest Googling "A relationship between tachycardia and extrasystole caused by acid reflux and Hiatal Hernia". There is an article that describes how abdominal pressure might be pushing the diaphragm into the lower tip of the heart and causing tachycardia, or a racing heart. The article suggests exercises to lengthen and relax the diaphragm, as well as suggestions to reduce pressure in the abdominal cavity (namely resolving indigestion and gas). I hope you find a solution. And I hope this helps. If you do find a solution, please do report back.
For a hiatal hernia with gerd, either bringing down the stomach with the help of a chiropractor or a Surgery (in case of a large sliding hernia) helps. Also, to strengthen the diaphragm my physiotherapist has suggested me an incentive spirometer post -fundoplication procedure. I'm glad I was recommended the device. Hope the info helps anyone desperate for a lead.
I’d swallow 16oz - 20oz of water and perform 20-30 controlled “jumping jacks”. Allow the weight of water and gravity to work the stomach cavity downward. It will take a few weeks, but easy to do.

Not myths. Up to 50% get hernia issues after 10-16 years after the surgery, though only some symptoms, not the whole deal again. Those who undergo a second surgery, mostly due to life or death situations, have a 90% of having more issues later on. Avoid surgery if possible.
I wish you doctors would just be honest, Once you have this you are finished with a normal life, There is no operation that will fix it without major complications. The wrap is very horrible and so is the mesh.

There is no "cure"
@@ryetim32 Surgery, though for up to 50% it's not permanent.
Anyone after surgery live long time inthe world
@@abhiramabhi8848 Yes, many. It's rarely dangerous. But surgery is also rarely effective for a long time.
I have that
Some myths about hiatus Hernia surgery after 5 to 7 years come back with same smpystons 😢why??
Not myths. Up to 50% get hernia issues after 10-16 years after the surgery, though only some symptoms, not the whole deal again. Those who undergo a second surgery, mostly due to life or death situations, have a 90% of having more issues later on. Avoid surgery if possible.
I wish I had gone to a doctor
Looking for hybred EVAR for AAA repair
Urgent
I wish you doctors would just be honest, Once you have this you are finished with a normal life, There is no operation that will fix it without major complications. The wrap is very horrible and so is the mesh.
How you know?
Today I just found out , My esophagus revealed a *small hiatal hernia* *This is on the report*
Do you have to have surgery with a *small hiatal hernia* ???? Or can it heal on it's own.
I appreciate you input , thank you .
