I completely agree about the esophageal manometry! It's a horrible test :(

hello. Regarding your reflux operation. Did you have ineffective motility or a hypotonic sphincter? I am in this situation and it is horrible, I want to have surgery

Grumpy Old Man (my husband) had this surgery almost 2 weeks ago. He was doing very well. He had normal post-op pain, bloating from the gas used and nausea. Then he developed severe diarrhea and fever. Worried about infection we went to the ER yesterday (11-25-23). After bloodwork, an x-ray and a CT scan, everything looked good. It was a stomach virus on top of everything else. He's better today, but very weak. Hopefully, he gets better as the day goes on.

I hope he feels better 🙏 why he got the infection ?

It was just a stomach virus that was going around, but when his fever spiked, I was afraid it was an infection due to the surgery. That virus was terrible. It made him very sick for weeks. And he spent 2 days in the hospital because of it.@@yonikab8066

I'm not sure what happened to my reply that I put on a few minutes ago, so I'm going to reply again. Sorry if it shows up and I'm repeating myself. It turned out there was no infection from the surgery. The fever was from the stomach virus. The virus made him very sick. It was like a perfect storm. Recent surgery, virus and diabetes caused him to be very sick for weeks. He's finally much better. The surgery went perfectly. The only issues he's having now is occasional diarrhea and lots of gas. Thank you for the well wishes. (3-20-24) @@yonikab8066

@@scottbrookfield6813 Hello. Grumpy Old Man is doing much better. Here are some things to consider. He is almost 70 years old, and he has diabetes. I don't know if that matters, but I wanted to bring it up. I think the surgery went well. He will see the gastro doctor in June, and probably be scheduled for endoscopy to see if the ulcers in his esophagus have healed. He still has an excess of gas and sporadic diarrhea. I don't know how much of it is due to diabetes and how much of it is due to the surgery. There's a video on UA-cam that I will try to find and post for you. Wait, here it is. Link Implant Review. GERD. 1 Year Honest Update (Channel) K-rel B. We have not implemented all of these changes but keep them in mind. Wait and see how you feel, and then proceed with any changes you feel are necessary. But anyway, he is doing good overall. Also, he did not have the Link surgery. He had the Nissen Fundoplication. We were happy with this decision. Keep in mind that you cannot have an MRI after the Link surgery. The machine can literally pull it out of your chest (because it's metal). But, anyway, Scott, I believe if you have a good surgeon, you'll be fine and happy that you got this done. IMO, you don't have a choice because the ulcers that will eventually occur can cause cancer. So, get it done. You'll be happy with the result. And for good measure, I'm going to send up a few prayers for you.

I have been very lucky, I am 12 days post surgery and thankfully I have absolutely no acid reflux at all. The only problem I have is gas bloating and diarrhea & shortness of breath. I am taking a quality pro-biotic once a day, and smethicone chewable one 20 minutes before eating & one about 5-10 minutes after.
First week doctor allowed only liquid, clear broth, plain tea, jello, soft flavored ice.
I went to the surgeon today day 12, and he doctor said absolutely no foods like mashed potatoes until 4th week, but thinly pureed sweet potatoes are ok 3rd week. No milk products, no rice, no gasy food. no bread until 4th week, but it has to be soft bread. Absolutely no carbonated drinks. Pureed thin meats allowed in 4th week. Mashed fish ok 3rd week. 2nd week allowed are, Vegatables and fruits pureed to a thin consistency, cream of wheat made thin or thinly mixed baby cereal, stage 2 baby foods,, clear broth like chicken broth, plain tea no milk, water taken 4 oz every 15 minutes, no water or liquid for 15 minutes before a meal or 15 minutes after. Instead of 3 meals per day, eat small 4 to 6 ounces of pureed food 4-6 times per day. Protein drinks or meal drinks ok 3rd week, but without any milk, water should be used if you're making them yourself.
Absolutely no lifting, no exercise except walking.
Eating the wrong foods or gasy foods can cause the stomach to expand and undo the surgery, so we have to be mindful and careful.
After 6 weeks normal food can be eaten, but we should forever continue to avoid gasy food and stay away from carbonated drinks, because again they cause the stomach to expand too much causing the surgery to come undone. 30% of people who have this surgery have to have it redone and the doctor told me the top reason is overeating and eating gasy foods and carbonated drinks.

I just had Nissan on 15.11.2021. It was done a little loose as I have motility problem with my esophagus. I also has barret , but what is strange the doctor told that I can stop taking IPPs after the surgery, which I am not qute sure about it.
