Appreciate the tip! Have a tournament next month
Please make another video about fishing line of you can man! This was super helpful and I have lately been on the fence of what to yse
Might have to!
Are you using a braid backing with your fluoro are is it straight fluoro? If you're using braid backing with fluoro leaders what are the combos you're using I.e., 30# braid with 14 # Fluoro. Awesome video on diameter of line focus instead of on the poundage. Thanks.
One of the best crankes of all time says too use braided line I like 20 lb MaxC power pro what are your thoughts on this I like it on chatter baits as well I like too feel everything I touch braid allows me too feel better
What's the best test line for Lew's baitcaster 14-50 lb line is what is recommended for it
A nutter piece of the puzzle
what is that white spool holder and where can I pick one up?
Do you trust the diameters stated, or do you use a micrometer to check the diameters? I'm in the UK, and generally a 15lbs monofilament line is 0.28 - 0.35mm, while 0.15mm is between 3.5lbs and 5lbs breaking strain. Very curious.
He most likely referring to fluoro carbon. Say 15# fluro is .15 and mono 15 is like .22 thus is just an example not the actual diameter
I just started and I’m using basic 20lb fishing line I guess it’s mono. Is that too big for the Potomac river?
Please do make another one i tend to have have test pound that i don’t know the in depth part
I run 10lb on my spinning rod and 14-15lb on my baitcaster
How do I get line spool sizes like that?
What i am still confused about ... Is line pound test relative to the size of fish you are catching ....
My gear is a 5000 spinning rod, with a short 10-30 grams medium- light cast with braid line 15 lb test.
In the pond i am fishing there are monster fish i am afraid to cast deep avoiding losing the lure or break the rod.
Do i go for it and try to cast deep or i need to upgrade the rod and reel and the line as well ...
Fishing nile perch
I feel like everyone uses fluorocarbon these days but I'm not a huge fan. I'd rather go braid then tie to a leader. Can you go with a stronger fluoro line that way?
I'm strictly braid on everything.
What is the best rod for swim jigs.I enjoy the videos
7 ft - 7’6” medium-heavy or heavy rod. I throw mine on a 7’3” heavy st croix rod with 50 lb braid to a 17 lb flourocarbon leader
Hey sir, what spinning reels do you prefer, wanting to get one of you duckett line rods and match it up with a great reel. Thank you from Chattanooga
Shimano vanford is what many pro fisherman use no matter if they're sponsored or not by shimano. That reel has a cult following among bass fisherman. Pretty sweet
No way, the Stradic is better than the Vanford still... The newer Duckett spinning reels are my go to's most of the time now, Honestly.
@@WheelerFishing awesome Good to know thank you. 🛎🛎
What size and color muddy water
Since I’m an average Joe fisherman I just do 8lb on my spinning rods and 12 on my baitcasters.
Solid for most places!
Average Fisherman 👋.
Redfish
20lb braid , 20lb fliouro
Bass
15 lb Pline ccx - bait caster
10 lb - Spinning
Crappie and Bream
8lb - Spinning
I do 8 and 10 mono.
Great video would like to hear more about line and rod power and action also if that effects it
Will do
10 lb is plenty if you dont fish where there is a lot of snags and mono is the best. if you fish in gin clear trout streams you are better off with very low diameter 4-6 lb if you fish in a back water flooded area where the water is stained brown or green then you can get by with heavy line, 20 -30lb.
Can you explain when it's necessary to use floro, mono, or braid.
Just to keep it super simple and basic..
floro - most situations, sinking baits, sensitive baits
mono - topwaters, some cranking plugs, floating / rising lures, etc
braid - heavy cover vegetation fishing, lighter braid for finesse floating situations as well as braid to floro leaders on spinning rods for cast-ability/ sensitivity
@@WheelerFishing when you use mono is there a color you prefer? One of the big selling points of fluorocarbon is invisibility underwater and I was wondering which color of mono is least visible to the fish.
Would love a LOT more detail about fishing line. What’s the lightest line you’d ever use in a tournament? Spinning? Braid with leader?
Great suggestion!
Great info! I enjoy your channel, if only some of the other bass guys conducted themselves like you do & not like they're trying to get every 10 year old on youtube to subscribe.
Braid for top waters and flipping
50
Flouro carbon baitcaster
17
Jigs texas rigs chatter baits spinning baits
Cranking 12 pound flouro
Jerk baits 12 pound flouro
Spinning rod 15 pound braid to a 10 pound flouro leader
Poppers,spooks 15 pound mono
@feeshyfeeshy hey man that’s just what works for me you do you
I only use mono for the extra thickness cause my arm is my rod.my hand is my reel and my drag is my grip..dont do this if u are not asian
Good video. Yet here are a few other variables to consider, when choosing line size, type and strength...
Fluorocarbon line not only is slightly smaller in diameter for the same pound test line, as compared to mono, but it is a better choice in clear water for its lower refraction rate (harder for fish to see). And fluorocarbon sinks, unlike a lot of monofilament line. So, depending on the application and circumstances that you are fishing, these are important factors to consider between the two lines before fishing one or the other, as well.
Monofilament line will retain water over its use, compared to fluorocarbon line. Yet monofilament line will have more initial stretch or 'give', which is a good thing, when using faster action (especially extra fast action) rods.
The new braids are great, too. Especially when one wants more 'feel', when the fish is playing with and/or starting to commit to the bait. Paired with a softer, 'crankbait' type of more moderate action rod, and as long as the fisherman is good enough a caster to fish it, braid can be a superior line choice within some applications, as compared to mono or fluorocarbon lines (yet easier for the fish to see, if you're not fishing it fast, for a reaction type of bite).
PowerPro Maxquatro braid is fun to play around with, too.: Thinner and more supple than other comparable pound test braid, so easier to fish most of the time. It's still abrasion resistant enough under most circumstances. And it lets baits drop more naturally and get down deeper than larger diameter braid, while still maintaining the breaking strength of heavier pound test braids.
Tight-lines!!!!!
Interesting timing for this video. What your talking about I’ve experienced some of what your talking about lately. Only, much lighter line/tiny lure fishing for bass. For example. I caugh the crap out of them on 4lb with a dropshot, upped to 6 on a simmilar rod same brand company same bait same weight, 1/2 the bites. Went back to 4lb, same everything else, back to almost every cast getting bit. This was a couple weeks ago here in Illinois. Clear water, 4-5ft visibility at least. I’m not sure if the action of the bait was hindered by the 6lb fluro, or if they’re line shy. Very hard telling. Thinking about being crazy and trying 2lb line so see what happens under the same conditions, with the same presentation, in the same area and see what happens. I’m not catching anything but small fish there anyways. Always a chance of a big one but 95% are small, and non tournament situation, it’s fun to test theories and get answers.
What brand line were you using?
I know plenty of guys and situations that it could very well make a difference even down to that small of a measurement! It's pretty wild to never quit learning.
I tried 12 lb advanced and it got terrible memory and kinked up on me and broke off when I was cranking, do you have a solution or do you just swap ur line often
Try suffix seige, blue box, great line!!!
And something else to just throw-into the mix as an 'international' post script.: The Japanese have an entirely different system to measure their fishing lines with. Worth noting, for the "JDM" type of guy who buys that type of bass fishing equipment, where finesse can be key, and you need to know what equivalent "American" line to use.
Get to the point man. No wonder the no.of likes
3 minutes and 43 seconds and I have no useful information. UGGH
I use 50lbs braided line. I still catch big bass and I can get unstuck from and tree wraps limbs hookups
