Thank you Scott. I have been seeing videos on and off over the years of you growing up. Thank you for taking time out from your personal life to do this valuable video!
I'd like to see how you tie your braid to your leader. There was a video a few years ago where you showed Billy how but, I can't remember which one. Thanks mang.
This helped a lot!!! Now I know how to decide which line to use. I’m new to fishing but love watching your videos for the past few years. B-lat is also my other go to when I wanna learn as well. Thank you!
Man I’ve fished here and there all my life and just now got the excitement of wanting to move forward with proper gear and such. Love all the vids, keep up the awesome work man.
I use P-Line Tactical. It is a GREAT line one thing I really like about it is the memory it doesn’t have any that’s what I love. I recommend it to anyone!
Great video and great info! Always enjoy the basic videos. Don’t know if this is in the pipeline, but maybe a video on what combos you would pair with these lines ( rod & reel ) or a basics video on spooling your reels. Great content as always! Keep it up
Thanks for the tips I do have P line Floracarbon but right now I’ve been using power pro braid I love that stuff but I do like p line I have to get some X braid ..✌🏼🎣
Wow great information Scott, very helpful. Really appreciate you taking the time to put the video together. I realize you are speaking to Bass fishing and matching the line to the type of lure and techniques. Would this change much for other species of similar game fish such as Walleye, Muskie or smaller bay fish like Trout?
Great vid Scott. Especially foe people like me who just got started using lures more. My dad always had us just throw a minnow and bobber out and let us be. But after watching you and all these educational videos I see myself getting much better with them. But I do still use minnows lol. They just work every time.
After your video talking about the bandito bug I went out and bought a pack. I went this morning and caught 2 5#,2 4#, 2 3#, a few 2# and a 5 # channel cat. I also had about a 8 pounder break my leader off. Those things are deadly.
Great content and videos, start to finish! But simple used to be one baitcaster, rigged with a 8" Jake Producer black grape... what happened? Lol. Love your channel, family, and what you do!
Love the videos Scott. I’m still learning the proper gear to use so could you drop a video on the top 3-4 rod reel line combos for crank baits, top water, drop shots, etc. and dive into the details around rod length, reel ratios, line weight. Thanks!!
Thanks for the video I'm new to bass fishing and joined the MFL fishing as a co this year having a blast but this video I really needed and helps a lot thanks again
Good video I learned alot. Just started bass fishing and buying stuff, but before i seen this i was going to use 40lb braid and 8lb leader fluorocarbon.
Love it bro! I'm someone who is trying to get into fishing seriously and I love educational videos. But your's was fire bc you stayed on point and didn't stray off topic. Plus really easy to follow! Please do more of these professor! Or I should say brofessor! 🤜🤛
@@ScottMartinChallenge I'm trying. I'm actually in a tournament now and the championship is on Guntersville. So will be rewatching that last tourney where you slayed day two again for sure!
Just got off the water after spooling my spinning rod with 8lb fluorocarbon pline gotta say the feel and action of my jerk baits improved even over other brand 6lb fluoro
Scott, in the beginning of the video you said you use fluorocarbon for heavy duty flipping. Then at the end you talked about braid for flipping heavy. I always thought braid was the way to go for flipping….in what situation would you ever use fluro for flipping? And lastly, I always wondered if flipping a bait with braid that’s not a top water bait such as a creature bait, would slow it down from sinking since it floats? I’d really appreciate answers on these questions. Thanks for this very informative video.
I use braid for all my Texas rigged baits, and all my flipping jigs. Still catch plenty of fish. Like Scott said, apart from bed fishing, when flipping and pitching, most of the time its a reaction
I got snagged with 6 pound pline the other week. Pulled hard until I felt something give. I ended up straightening out my hook before that line broke. Tough stuff for sure.
Did I miss it Scott? You never explained what copolymer was best used for. I watched this video twice. I'm making notes and will be relining a few reels and give your advice a try. The different types of lines have confused me for awhile as to what I should be using. This video has given me new knowledge and insight. Good video. Thanks. Now what is the best use for copolymer or just forget it since you didn't mention it?
idk why but I was wondering if u had same issues with p-line. What I've noticed is it has a tendency to pop an more specifically the copolymer-floro coated line for some reason that line has popped on me more then any other Line that I use. Reason when I do use it I don't use anything less then 20lb but compared to a sunline copolymer it just straight crushes p-lines Copoly. An it tends to stretch more before it pops an def seems to have stronger lb rating's. But then both are made in Japan which u would think both lines would have comparable strengths but not really which I find weird. Reason I just get sunline fishing line over other brands now.
Great information!! I’m not a fan of mono or fluoro because of the stretch. I’m having an issue right now my braid pulling off the hook at the eye when I set the hook. Looking for a solution. It’s killing me. I fish okeechobee, Istokpog, and all around highlands county area. I use mostly spinning rods. All braid unless clear water lake. 30 to 40 lb braid. Also tried a few different hooks for the test. Any solutions?
Thank you for the video .. I found copolymer is better for top water I use mono for spinners and crank baits but you are right … p line is better than the rest.. braid for everything else
Scott, how are you tying your knots to P-line Flora carbon? I just switched over from monofilament and have lost several fish to knot failure. Something I’ve not experienced with mono. Thanks!
Won’t the fish see the bright color braid line ? I normally stick with the dark green braid to blend in more , also what kind of line / leader combo do you recommend for using cut bait or strimp and worms etc ?
Scott what are your thoughts on line conditioners- do they make a difference - I feel I see a difference using Reel Magic in my casting and line memory.
Great video. Some of us are simply trying to learn the basics prior to getting started! I was wondering, what is flipping? Is that just when you are casting into heavy cover, or is there more to it than that?
I like the double uni for the ease to learn, but it's not usable with the micro guides. What's your go to leader knot in those cases? Or just keep leader short enough to avoid the guides?
I have been using the 30# X Braid, and have been surprised how stiff it is and how much memory it has. Any back lash I have goes very deep in the spool.
Just wanting to know what do you average in your rank position for a year of tournament fishing? What is a good place average in tournament fish? The reason why I am asking is because I know pros don’t always place high and I compete in a lot of different small tournaments and I average about the top 10 out of 50 people.
Hello Scott i need some advice im a pond fisherman and idk if you pond fish alot but ive been going to a pond and yeah i can get them to bite senkos, ned rigs, flukes, but ive been wanting that topwater bite. This os the first pond where i can walk around it and see bass on the banks at 12 midday but once it hits 6 to 8pm they are nowhere to be found ive been trying frogs early morning, buzz baits late evening and i cannot get them to blow up on it what could i do to get them to blow up on some buzzbaits?
Great video. I'm just starting out using bait casters and a friend of my gave me a new bait caster and if I'm reading this right it's 12:1 great ratio of so what kind of line and weight would you recommend? I'm using a 7'6" rod.
Scott what are your thoughts on p-line floroclear ? I just started fishing again and someone said is better then 100% fluorocarbon ? Would love to hear from back I mainly use it for crank bait & Texas rigging
10/10 best simple and clear explanation for the different kinds of line. Really helps a lot thanks Scott and SMC team!
It’s a double uni knot man there’s 1000 videos of him and his pops and their knots lol
I'm here learning the basics with you. I never used braid until I started throwing topwater frogs, now I need to learn.
Love learning about this stuff. Just got into bait casting set ups this year.

Scott would love to see a video with your knot choices for these different style lines and what knots you prefer with each.
Great vid Scott. Especially foe people like me who just got started using lures more. My dad always had us just throw a minnow and bobber out and let us be. Hey Scott: Great content as always. Just curious are mono and copolymer lines interchangeable? Thanks…🎣😎🐝
Thanks for the info. Can't wait until the next video.

@@ScottMartinChallenge Bam right back at ya. I just love how yall end each show with a Bam to the camera. Kinda like a signature mark.
Could you make one about rod lengths and actions for certain baits?
Can you explain why the liter is added to the braid.
I got snagged with 6 pound pline the other week. Pulled hard until I felt something give. I ended up straightening out my hook before that line broke. Tough stuff for sure.
I am interested in knowing more about the P-Line Floroclear?

Hi Scott, I'm not sure you'll see this, but I notice that you tie off directly to the lure... what are you opinions on using snap-swivels?
I have been using the 30# X Braid, and have been surprised how stiff it is and how much memory it has. Any back lash I have goes very deep in the spool.
Thanks Scott! You just persuaded me to spend more money! 🤣🤣

Stream fishing line suggestions- 25 lb minimum for the tree shakers
Question from a bait casting rookie…does lighter/smaller diameter line cause more back lashes?
P-Line tactical was a pain for me. Sunline and Seaguar are it
Scott what are your thoughts on p-line floroclear ? I just started fishing again and someone said is better then 100% fluorocarbon ? Would love to hear from back I mainly use it for crank bait & Texas rigging
Good stuff Scott!
I was about to order some flouro carbon from a different brand, and just switched the order to p line, it is cheaper and you say it is good boom
Very good!
How do I get the memory out of flourocarbon?
If you don't mind send me some info on pline saltwater inshore and offshore you'd use in the west central FL area crystal river, Homosassa south area
