This is the perfect video for anyone entering into rendering their own bee's wax. Keeps the project small and simple with tools easily obtained from thrift stores or garage sales. I do have a question from when you let the burr comb drip, did you heat it somehow? Thank you

Thank you! I hope it helps! Love how cheap it can be. I found that crock pot for $2! It was missing a handle, so I think I paid a total of $4 for it after the handle was replaced. When I let the comb drip, I did not heat it at all. I did have it in my warm house, but that was it. The goal wasn’t the honey, but I hate to waste even a drop of it. Love that skep mold! I found it at a “local” beekeeping shop. It’s about two hours or so away.
If you put the wicks up through the metal eye of the clothes pegs help keeping the wick center, cool video

Thank you! We do not personally sell wax. You can find your local beekeeping association and I’m sure they could put the word out to their members if you’re interested in buying locally.

Hi! Have you had any issues with insects being attracted to your beeswax candles? What precautions do you take against this?
Sorry, but we haven’t had any issues with this. We do keep candles that aren’t in use and pure beeswax in a plastic bin in temperature control (house or shed).

I'm very interested in this kind of stuff, I wanted to ask why you can't use the freshly melted wax the first time for candle casting immediately after filtering with panty hose? Is there a reason for that?
I suppose you could if you wanted. I like to portion them into smaller pieces for small batch making. We’re not a commercial business making dozens of candles at a time. Makes it easier to just restock as needed.
instead of a crockpot can u use a glass bowl over hot water under gas?
I’m sure it would work just the same. The idea is to just heat low and slow.
Do you leave any for the bees?
Always! You have to if you’re going to have healthy and happy bees. You should take primary the old comb or any that they build in odd places that you as a beekeeper wouldn’t want comb.
Hi, I have one question. Why my skep hive beeswax candle dripping all over. I tried 6 different wicks sizes...all cotton specially for beeswax but still sam issue. I even tried to add coconut oil, same problem...
I’ll have to check what wick size we normally use. It’s fairly small and is wax coated.
The wicks we use are 2.5mm cotton, pre-waxed. Hopefully that helps!

what candle mould do you use?
We have a few different molds. The most requested looks like a small skep.

I have a mold without a hole in the bottom. What could I do to make one?
I’d just use a large needle to work the wick through.
Do you have a recipe for your coffee syrup?
Yes! It’s 2.5c water, 1c honey, 3/4c brown sugar, and 4T vanilla. Combine all but the vanilla in a saucepan. Mix well and bring to a boil for ten minutes. Let cool then add vanilla. Keep refrigerated. I put mine into a mason jar pump bottle for easy use. You could use 2c sugar in lieu of the honey. That’s what I did before we started keeping bees.
