Turtle Wax ICE Liquid Wax vs. Meguiar's NXT Tech Wax 2.0 - Water Test

- Turtle Wax ICE Liquid Wax vs. Meguiar's NXT Tech Wax 2.0. This shows the repellency characteristics of each synthetic wax (sealant) product. Both products were allowed 72 hours to cure before wetting.
I allowed the ICE Liquid Wax a period of 1 minute to dry, which is recommended, and the NXT 2.0 was allowed a period of 20 minutes to dry. The ICE Liquid Wax does not pass the finger swipe test before they recommend that you remove the product, but removing it at the 1 minute mark did not leave me with any streaking. NXT 2.0 had no problems applying as well, and passed the swipe test before removal.

Sheeting is a nice characteristic, but the down side is unless you're in a monsoon, not enough water falls at a time to cause the sheeting. Which also "holds" the drops more. So in a torrential downpour sheeting leaves less water but in normal rain it kind of holds the drops more.
I'll take beading any day. Lots or little rain, doesn't "hold" the water.
I tried Turtle ICE Liquid Spray Wax, applied it after freshly Clay Baring the whole car. Turtle setup great, can use it on any black trim without any residue, very nice product. For me Turtle is a winner :) Really good video, I enjoyed it. Thanks
Well I think what people want to know is what makes the paint look shinier and what hides swirl marks and Imperfections the best. I mean it only rains so much.
I use the NXT 2.0 and between waxing I use meguiars synthetic xpress spray wax as a top up. That stuff is incredible! I'm getting some CG butter wax carnauba to go over the top of the NXT to make her really pop! but for proper protection I rely on both the NXT and xpress wax
Removing the ice is like removing used engine oil but with that said its still my favorite has the best shine and smooth feel. Just make sure to use 3 bath towels to remove it. remove it 3 times each time using a new towel and you will be pleased with the results.
Can't be assed for that shit. It comes off easy or it gets shot in the bin!
nice vid. I just waxed my vehicle I just got with the nxt 2.0 after the meguires claybar kit and I'm extremely pleased. like a new car and very very shiny as well as so smooth to the touch
Hi waxmode, nice vid, being a very keen detailer, have 3 vehicles to work with and have used several products. On my work pickup, just threw turtle wax ice spray wax on it,thinking what the heck, and 6 weeks later after heaps of abuse ,it does exactly what the liquid wax in this vid does, expected to have to reapply, but in all honesty am very impressed ,the durability is very good.Have that many products, thought just Chuck it on one that doesn't get the full treatment, and cops the elements hard,it has surprised.
Ice Spray Wax is one of the best products you can get over the counter here in the States. I agree with you, if you continue to use it after your weekly washes you will see a boosted water behavior. Try out Ultimate Quik Wax as well, let me know how you like this one compared to Ice.
WaxMode HI again , as a hobbyist.I like and enjoy using different waxes /products on my properly prepared paintwork. The ones I have used are Soft99,mothers carnuaba, megs ultimate, dodo juice diamond white,nu finish, and one you may of not heard of x pert products crystal wax.In between I have used megs wax as you dry, turtles ice spray wax,and also duragloss rinseless wash 931with aquawax.I will one day hope to start my own channel, but if you are interested I can give you my observations on durability, results on my experiences .Amongst other things such as washes, mitts, drying towels, microfiber cloths, in fact all things detailing.Cheers
This is really strange.. I use NXT wash, and NXT liquid Wax (Maguiars Clay + Quick Detailer between the two) and it is beading like crazy for me. So much so in fact that when it rained over night and the next morning all the cars in the street are basically dry again, my car is sitting there all covered in beads. I sometimes wipe it dry then, because else it is literally gonna be like that well beyond noon, especially in the winter season, where evaporation is low... I wished the water would just run off, but it does not. It is crazy, it sits everywhere, trunk, bonnet, fenders...
+Baerchenization This is normal for waxes. Water sheets off when you have enough volume of water to force a sheet of water to occur across the paint. On the cars that aren't waxed, they're usually so contaminated with embedded brake dust, fallout, and regular road grime that they force the water flat much easier, so it takes a low volume of water to cover the entire paint with a sheet of water. With those cars, the water forms flat and it's attracted to the paint, so it will stick to it until it's evaporated off. It evaporates off as a sheet, instead of as a bead of water.
Even with the waxes that aren't aggressive with water, they still produce extensive beading during a regular or even heavy rainstorms because they create a surface that repels the water, and it takes a certain volume of water hitting the paint in one spot at one time to overcome that repelling force. In the video here, you can see that we would need a much larger volume of water hitting the panel at one time to overcome the force that ICE Liquid Wax repels in order to form that complete sheet, compared to NXT 2.0. But with even the heaviest of rainstorms, if NXT 2.0 is fresh, you will get a great deal of beading.
So long as your rain water isn't terribly acidic, then even as those water beads evaporate they shouldn't be leaving damaging spotting behind. Here in Florida we get 5 months of daily rain showers and as the sun comes out and dries those water beads up I'm not left with any problematic spotting.
Which is better UV protection?
This video has some ASMR triggers!
thanks for your review
Turtle Wax really needs a better name, because it drys much too fast. I much prefer Meguiar's, just apply to the whole car and by the time you're done, it's time to wipe off.
Does this Turtle ICE Premium Liquid Wax leave any White Residue on Plastic/Rubber Trim Parts?
+lightningsmokerXx No, this liquid wax as well as their most recent 2015 update is safe to use on trim surfaces with no white residue left behind.
WaxMode Ever tried it on headlights?
+lightningsmokerXx Yes, most products you can apply over headlights without any issues, so I'll wax them any time I'm doing the rest of the car.
nice vid and review, thanks!
looks like the turtle has it. Waxes that just bead water are not as good as ones that sheet. If you allow water to bead on your paint you will just get water spots.
hi - really luv the vids - keep them coming - let me ask your opinion - i bought a car in april 2017 and i had a place do opti coat (the one year kind) the same week - now i think it’s starting to wear off - i don’t want to do opti coat again cause it cost too much - what should be my next step/product - i don’t have tools like a polisher - thanks
Try Sonax Polymer Net Shield, great product for the upcoming winter, not quite as durable as Opti-Coat but it’s a fantastic sealant, one of my favorites.
Nice review and water beading test,,good job, keep it up,,would be much better if you comment about durability,,thanks
what the better?
I'd go with turtle wax ice!
once back in college i compounded, polished and waxed my car. then ate almost an eighth of mushrooms with some buddies. and we spent the next 6 hours hosing it down and laughing at the beads and run off. best day ever.
Ready for round 2? I'll bring Polymer Net Shield.
WaxMode there isn't a day that goes by that im not ready. don't have drunken stoner neighbors anymore so we could see some push back trying it. can't fake being sober on those. ppl know you're up to something. oh college.
Which lasted longer?
XenomorphLV426 Real durability is hard to test, because NXT 2.0 like some other Meguiar's waxes that I've tested don't have very durable surface tension qualities. The longer you flood the panel with water, the less aggressive the product will repel water. It gives you the illusion that the wax or sealant is getting tired or less "durable" but the actual protective capabilities like UV protection or gloss enhancement might still be working and bonded to the clearcoat even though the repellency is less impressive. I've tested ICE Liquid Wax up to 2 weeks and the repellency is aggressive throughout that test and even after many wash and rinses with Meguiar's Deep Crystal soap. You can see that test here: ua-cam.com/video/kZpw-WXlH68/v-deo.html
If you like beading, ICE Liquid Wax will give you what you want. If you want more of a sheeting based product or something you can apply over the entire car before you buff off your sections - then NXT 2.0 is the one you want. But unless you have some really cool lab level equipment to see the microscopic layer of wax on the paint - judging actual durability is anyone's best guess. 2-3 months seems to be the general assumption for NXT 2.0's durability - more or less depending on how good or bad your environment is.
Expecting to see any significant differences, and especially any changes, from one to five to a dozen water sprayings in quick succession is really not valid, unless of course one were to actually wash off that easily. Many here comment that the test is in a week, a month, after three or six months, when real weather and wear have done some work. Beading may or may not be a comprehensive test of actual protection, but it proves whether or not any product remains, and other tests show that writing on panels is also protected, as long as beading occurs. Sheeting is suspect, as it is exactly what bare paint does. Time is the only valid test.
Queen/Freddie Mercury makes a great background sound.
Schyler Treanor Yes it does, unfortunately it netted me a copyright claim so I have to remember now to shut the radio off when I make videos.
Problems with wax steaking or hard to get off means they are applying to much product. You only need a very thin film
good vid
Could you do a video comparing Nxt 2.0 liquid and Nxt 2.0 paste and after that Nxt Vs gold class Vs ultimate paste waxes? Love your videos 👍
Hey Palle, where are you from? Here in the U.S. I don’t believe I’ve found a spot that still has the NXT Paste Wax, mainly only the liquid version is still available. There are other areas outside of the U.S. where they continued to expand on the NXT line and we missed out on a few cool products that weren’t released in the NXT line in the U.S.
@@WaxMode Hi! Waxmode thanks for replying,I live in Sweden but ordered it from Germany that still sell this product. Also the UK have alot of resealers of the paste wax nxt 2.0.I have heard it should be a good wax,but the paste wax was the one to pick.I also bought the Gold class + at the same time,it will be fun to try them out and maybe layer them. I hope you can get hold of a tin Nxt to review.👍😃

kinda wasting water...
EKCPeacekeepin There are no shortages of water here in Florida. This water accumulates onto our sidewalk, is quickly evaporated, and then comes crashing back down on us every afternoon to water all of Central Florida, also replenishing the source areas where my water line is tapped into.
I wish I could say the same here in California. We could sure use some rain. I must say you really are thorough in your review of the various waxes and their repellent abilities. I'm definitely going to have to try them out on my car. I'm pretty particular on what I use on my vehicles. Thanks for your excellent reviews.
chuckwalla Not for me, seeing the beading in action is one of the best things about waxing!
now if only they improved them to be total water repelling!,. till then ......
NXT is on my shower tiles and grout
Zymol is on my cars
Zymols damn rubbish u noob
Stop wasting drinking water on useless stuff like this. This tells nothing about the protection abilities of the product.
Very difficult to set up and test the "protection abilities" of products compared to other ones. UV resistance? Anti-etching? Anti-soiling? The majority of people are going to make a judgement on a product based on what they can immediately or easily observe: ease of use, short-term durability. Now we know which product excels in one category over the other.
Ahmed Tha King He wastes some drinkingwater, so we don't have to 😄
Why do all these videos seem the same...wax is wax...water is gonna bead up on a waxed car; especially if it's freshly applied. It seems all these wax videos are the same and all the waxes are the same.
They'll definitely repel water but you can really see a strong difference in the performance and characteristics of the wax depending on what you're using. NXT is a better wax in terms of it applying and buffing off of the paint cleanly, it's very user friendly. ICE, at this least older liquid version, is much more aggressive with water and that behavior is more durable in the short term, but it takes longer to buff it cleanly from the paint. So with a ton of choices out there, it's good to get some time behind the waxes so guys can make the purchase decision based on their preferences. Some guys like a durable and aggressive water behavior, others have a very high priority for ease of use and like to apply over the entire car before they have to buff it from the paint. But I would agree that you could take a ton of different products and get decent results.
WaxMode All good points. People should polish and wax by panels, not all at once, for best results.
Jonnie Bangkok Incorrect. There are many many waxes that can be applied to the entire vehicle and it makes no difference if you do it panel by panel or the entire car.
Wax is wax! But some are better than others!
@@jonnieinbangkok I've always done this. Not because of ease or anything, but to take breaks from removing. Applying takes less work, removing takes more. So I only one panel, then remove one panel then move on with the ICE. Never miss a spot when removing that way.
