  • I continue north along the Grand Union Canal, a cruise that takes me through Stoke Bruerne and its locks and then onwards to the Blisworth Tunnel, the third longest navigable canal tunnel in England and the ninth longest canal tunnel in the world. I pass slowly through the picturesque countryside aboard "Bubbly Too" and enjoy being out in nature.

    My suggestion would be the Leicester Arm of the Grand Union followed by the River Soar to Radcliffe on Trent, then up the Erewash Canal past Nottingham because I've never yet gongoozled it.

      Thanks, John for subscribing and liking, welcome aboard. The white pole thing is my wifi antenna it's a cheap and cheerful one but is doing the job, just. I hope to upgrade both the antenna and the router soon.

    I did a hire boat trip last May and cruised the same route. Two weeks of bliss.

      The Grand Union and Oxford canals are beautiful but I have a lot more to discover.

      Hi Artie, sorry for the delay in replying missed the comment somehow. Anyway, the last time I lived in a house was in 2009 and the last time I owned one was around 1988, a lifetime ago. 🤔

    Can I ask do you prefer boat life or van life?

    • @TheNarrowboatNomad
      @TheNarrowboatNomad  9 місяців тому

      Hi Sally, sorry for the delay in replying, I missed the comment somehow. Your question is difficult to answer as both have pros and cons. I loved vanlife but after years on the road I got to a point where I needed a change, Brexit also made vanlife a lot harder especially for full-timers. Now I have the boat and am loving the new adventures. Although Bubbly Too is only 46ft long it seems huge in comparison to the van so I love the extra space. In hindsight, I think I would have liked to have made the change from the van to the boat much earlier. Hope that answers your question.

      @@TheNarrowboatNomad Thank you. I love your sense of adventure and envy your bravery of taking the plunge and living the dream. My fear of being a woman and one day possibly being alone does hold me back. Dark nights on the river must be scary at times.

      @@sallyjohnsonml1349 Sally, I think you would be surprised by the number of single women who live on narrowboats, many of them continuous cruisers. It is all too easy to talk ourselves out of doing something for fear of what might be. At the end of the day, what's better, to be one of the 98% who follow their dreams and succeed or be one of the 2% who do nothing and regret it for the rest of their lives. What if's don't make good memories. ☹🤔😀 I wish you all the best in whatever direction you take. 🙋‍♂👍
