Hi Peter another great video on your channel, I had to replace a while speed sensor on exactly the same vehicle only a 61 plate. The owner stated he purchased the vehicle new and had his engine fail just out of warranty. Jaguar replaced his engine and knocked him £1000 of as a goodwill gesture but the bill was still around the £8000 mark!!!!
A friend was going to buy a friend of hers Evoque. Said it was a 2 ltr diesel. I said no, dont do it. She said her friend loves the car and always religiously services and washes it every week. It had just had a new DPF fitted. Its 4 years old. I said even more to not touch it . Her friends new Evoque was late in arriving at the dealership. A week before its arrival, the Evoque my friend was buying had the usual engine failure and now requires a new engine. She told me I was right all along and the friend has now cancelled there new Evoque, not only because they have to get a new engine fitted to the old one but also they are shocked on how rubbish this engine is and how LR arent interested in helping . Lesson learnt, I suppose. There are good ones out there, but I know of so many timing chain failure and bottom ends going amongst people around me , its very scary. I am not in the trade just a person who has seen at least 6 failures in 2024 , which is just shocking.
@@kennedysgarage3281 Had a tres smart Kia in today - owner was advised her engine is shot(knock) & needs replacing. She has it booked in for next week at some other place for that to be done(€€€€€€), her BIL told her to bring it me for a second opinion. Last service was 2 years ago, to me it needed a service & the auxillary pulleys all checked - I reckon the knock is from the water pump. €400 tops, maybe less. Tried convince her to go that route first, she looked doubtful (dunno why I cared tbh) Eventually she agreed & booked it in for monday. Texts me an hour later to say she's decided to go with the engine replacement, lol. People can be baffling, Peter. I know well she will struggle to pay the engine bill & was trying to give her a way out - nope, she don't want a way out. :-) Nowt as strange as folk. :-)
An interesting video. I have a 2018 XF25 2.0 diesel twin turbo. The EGR valve failed at 67000 miles, long story short after replacing the inlet manifold and egr valve it didn’t fix it and the main dealer who was doing the work advised that it needed a replacement engine. I’m in Northern Ireland and the replacement engine installed was £14000. Too be fair to Jaguar they split the cost 50/50 with me as it had been bought from a main dealer as ‘approved used’ and had full service history even though it was out of warranty. Still a hefty bill. The issue is that the official service interval is 2 years or 20000 miles. That’s far too long I think you need to change the oil at least every 10000 miles. That’s what I’m doing now using an approved independent agent, I’ve done 36000 miles in the last year with no more bother from the engine.
@devlinracing3553 very interesting, at least they covered 50%. I very much agree with you on the oil intervals being too far apart at 20k I also think that 10k is enough for any gallon of oil to do 🤷🏼♂️🤷🏼♂️
Unbelievable and believable at the same time, JLR continue to make rubbish and never learn. Could you imagine if they made a reliable vehicle across their range, instead of making a junk engine and infecting all their products with it. People talk about the unknown future issues with EV's and are justified with the lack of data around long term out of warranty ownership. But the JLR story is one of unreliability and customer cost. 90% of JLR product is still on the road....the other 10% made it home 😆
Wonder if it was run with water in the fuel. If you own a diesel, make sure to drain the fuel water separator on the recommended intervals (I don't know what it is).
@@kdmq I actually think that the cause of engine failure in case was overfueling by the injectors. Just a thought, I have a second hand engine bought, will fit a new timing chain and test all the injectors before fitting just to confirm 🤷🏼♂️🤷🏼♂️
@@GraditelMacedonia contrary to everyone’s opinion I really don’t think that the Mazdas are too bad. Just a bit harder for guys to find the problems with them 🤔🤔
Those ingenium engines are very troublesome by all accounts. Good video Peter

Great find 😊
@@antodenn381 I’m told engine failure on these isn’t that hard to solve Anto. It was easy enough in this case thankfully 😅

Great cartoon Peter those ingenium engines can be hard to come by second hand.
Most people look to replace with the older 2.2, as they were a good engine
The 2.0 was nothing but trouble, lots of traders wont go near them
You are correct the 2.2 is a very robust and reliable unit.
@ trying to get one is difficult as everybody wants them to replace failed 2.0
@@derekfleming3095 Is it possible to fit a 2.2 in the mk2 XF? That chassis never had that engine from the factory.
@@Jeffrey_M yes, many people have done it, due to 2.0 failures and not wanting to fit another
