How Three Characters Almost Destroyed The Fairly Oddparents

- The best Fairly Oddparents episodes all have one thing in common, they don't include a certain set of three characters. Nickelodeon had something special with the Fairly Oddparents and the show ran for longer than almost any other show on the network. Timmy, cosmo and Wanda all became important characters in the world of animation. Yet the show slowly began to decline in quality and one of the main reasons for this, was the introduction of three people. The Fairly Oddparents went south fast, but the question is, why?

The Fairly Oddparents Jimmy Neutron crossover was literally one of the most hype moments of my childhood
And the fact that they're changing animation when Timmy was in 3D in Jimmy Neutron's World and Jimmy was in Fairly Odd Parents' World
Until Chloe came after and the animation becomes more dynamic but the characters became trash
Better than the marvel universe crossovers
Honestly

If Cloe was just needed to be a female foil, then why didn't just bring back Vicky? Or Tootie? Or Trixie? 3 female characters that already existed in the show and then just suddenly vanished like Chester and AJ?
They got rid of them? 🤦🏾♂️
@@TheRealTaolf what?? They did?
yoooo I forgot about Chester and AJ
Who's Trixie? That mentally ill attention seeker? Or the secretly tomboy school diva?
@@revimfadli4666 Trixie was the hot one Timmy had a crush on.
If they wanted a "foil" why not use Tootie? I mean, one of the biggest questions in FOP history is: why doesn't Tootie have fairies? She lives with Vicky, people don't show up to her birthday parties because of Vicky, and they said, and I quote, "according to Da Rules you can only loan your fairies to someone who is twice as miserable as you are." So why not use Tootie instead of some random girl who has no need for fairies?
This!
that DID happen in one episode, actually lmao
Mythic. Yeah, but if they shared the fairies Timmy would've taught her better
@Mythic she should be given a second opportunity tbh
I’m still pissed they forgot about Tootie. Hell, I wouldn’t mind if she had to share with Timmy, but they cut her out and added damn Chloe. I don’t get why they had to cut out characters like Trixie, Francis, etc. I guess Butchs ego got the best of him
Watching the late seasons made me realize they cut Trixie, Tootie, Francis, Chester, A.J, and Remy Buxaplenty
Francis at least had the honor of an exit. It was a crappy one, but he had one.
Some other characters that come to mind are Chip, Norm (but he had on exit in 2006), (maybe) Mark, Sanjay, and the boil kid. About the only ones who weren’t ditched were Catman and Crocker
@ArjenRobben Mr.Wembley That was a great episode!
I always wondered why they got rid of Tad and Chad. Who where Timmy competition for Trixie.
Vicky only appeared once
Chloe was just awful and it didn't make sense to give her god parents. Tootie needed them so much more because shes miserable being with vicky as her sister making her life hell. Hell even Chester could of done with some fairies
Did they even REMEMBER Tootie was there? I hadn't seen her in... I dunno, YEARS? Heck, it seems like they even forgot about CHESTER AND AJ!
Chester got fairies before in an episode and they ruined his life, remember? He's happier where he is now that he doesn't have Cosmo and Wanda
@@kmaple9 Wait, wasn't that Norm the Genie? =/
Am I thinking of another episode?
William Patchell it was the episode where Timmy let Chester borrow his fairies. Chester wished that his dad was a successful baseball player and his life started becoming more miserable than it already was.
@@Hyper_Drud AH! NOW I remember! Thanks dude! C:
Really weird but I find it odd that there’s a supposed “fairy shortage” and yet Timmy alone had 4 fairies to himself.

Mysteriouscookiemoustache sparky counts as a fairy
Sparky can't grant wishes tho, abd poof was just a baby, he was an extension of the family moreso than someone entrusted to grant his godbrother's wishes.

If they wanted a female character as a foil to Timmy, why not develop Tootie more instead of her being a one note “I love Timmy” character?
Yeah that would've worked better, especially since they show multiple times that she probably needs them more than he does
Omg i thought about that at some point. An if they did it could be a great segway to show timmy getting older. By actually coming to terms with tootie's affectation's to him an her kinda getting to know timmy an mabey realizing that he's not the person she made him out to be.
khaila Johnson
Yeah, and they could still have her be a foil to Timmy in a better way than they did with Chloe
For example: Vicky could be constantly mocking her for coming home with a B one time and Timmy could provide moral support and be like “I wish I made Bs!”
They could do some heist to try and get Vicky’s old scores to see that her scores were WAAAY lower than Tooties and that she likes putting down others to make herself feel better for how bad she used to do.
Tootie could later improve her grades by helping Timmy study because usually one can make themselves understand a topic better by helping someone else understand it, so now both Timmy and Tootie improve
Tootie beating herself up over not doing well enough and comparing herself with how others expect her to be would greatly contrast and be a good foil to Timmy who Just doesn’t give a crap so he underperforms.
If they have them be complementary opposites, they could both work together to improve each other to where eventually they don’t need fairies
Abdega
RIGHT! So by the time thier older they can leave behind thier childhood with no regrets an cleanly say goodbye to thier fairies. An the show didnt have to run for soo long an lose its originality of the 1st season.
That would have been a much better decision, in my eyes. On top of what you already mentioned, I feel it would have added even more. For instance, the day to day issues of keeping them from Vicky, as well as a setup for a potential special, if and when Vicky finds out about them. That’s another thing I loved about this show. The ability to be epic and relatable, all at once.
When it was TImmy, Cosmo, And Wanda: YESSSS I LOVE THIS

Araki forgo- wrong show
Because writers don't know how to write flawed characters in cartoon shows anymore. Choe is a boring mary-sue, while in the 90s we got good female characters like Helga Petaki, and Patty, or a better version of Choe, in Helga's sister. And the writers just don't seem to care about the lore anymore and just retcon it constantly as an excuse for a bad plot, rather than writing plots to work within the lore.
@flatP Here’s the answer: DINKELBERG!
@@GeteMachine oh brother, well I'll repeat it again, maybe some people would understand it sometimes. Being Mary Sue is like the whole point of Chloe, all her character development is employment of that trope. How her marysueism is partially deconstructed by her actions and reality and what ugly things lies behind that facade. Very interesting idea, if implemented properly and imho they did it in 10th season pretty good. Only issue with her and 10th season in whole - lack of continuation. They should have made it like an AU spinoff or kind of reboot with slightly different characters.
The series finale should either be channel chasers, abracatastrophe, or the wishology trilogy

That is the most beautiful comparison I've ever heard about the FOP's later seasons. Brutal, but still sad.
I feel that. This show was one of my favorites as a kid, and even back then I could tell when it was starting to get worse. Same thing happened to Spongebob around the same time IMO. Seeing a show you used to love go bad seems like such a trivial problem, but it really does hurt.

When Chloe was added I felt the show had lost it's touch and was drifting further towards oblivion and total loss. It would have been nice to see a lovely ending to the series. Everyone agrees it would have aged well like fine wine
Fairkey godparents was at its best when it followed a simple formula:
“Timmy has a real world problem, he uses magic to easily fix it, magic either enhances the problem or makes a second even worse one, Timmy realizes that he has to do things the old fashioned and hard way.”
The very first episode showed that formula perfectly:
“Timmy thinks being a child sucks, so he wishes to be an adult, but then he realizes that being adult means you have to work and care for yourself even losing his fairies and family, Timmy reverses the wish and decides to be a child a bit longer and grow up naturally.”
Frank West Rewatching that episode as an adult, it surprises me how mature it really was. Timmy thinks he can beat up Francis if he’s older, but in the real world, adults can NOT assault children without legal consequences. He can’t help an old lady across the street as a big hairy guy because now he’s seen as a creep. So on and so forth.
Or when he wanted people to pay more attention to him but realized that people shouldn’t applaud every little thing you do. And realized even though his parents didn’t always pay attention to him they cared about him just the same.
My issue was literally the MAJORITY of the side cast was discarded past season, I want to say somewhere between 6 to 8. Like most of Timmy's school life was cut to a bare minimum when most of the best episodes revolved around it!
most of his friends and even love interests and even some enemies just stoped showing up. crocker and vicky were the only 2 that were villains to the end (some people say foop got redemption in the final episode cause of chloe_
The blue baby grew on me a lot more as a child, poof and that baby was fun to see them have a rivalry
The worst thing about Chloe is that she could have been a great character if only the had made her a villain, just imagine, keep her introduction just the same and then as the episodes go by Timmy wonders why does she even need goodparents in the first place, it is eventually revealed that she is not who she says she is and is actually trying to steal Cosmo and Wanda from him, it could have been interesting.
I always felt “Channel Chasers” should’ve been the official series finale.

I don’t think Poof was a bad idea. Yeah, it was an obvious attempt to breathe some sort of new life into the show, but speaking mostly from my memories of watching, I think he was done well enough. Watching as a kid, it felt natural, at least compared to Sparky and Chloe. Of course, eventually this married couple would eventually have a child of their own. It made sense. And, despite not being much of a character in his own, he did at least change the status quo of the show and present new scenarios for the characters. Compared to Sparky and Chloe, his presence felt much less intrusive and forced.
You hit a big point. After a certain point, it is better to end a show instead of dragging it on. I know I miss a lot of older ones and wish they still ran, but it is better to end on a high note and possibly come back with a re-tooling in the future. Rugrats I felt kinda pulled this off as All-Grown-Up, while not great, wasn't too bad.
Poof was very good, but when they gave him a voice... heck no

They gave him a voice?
@@Meccarox yes, and it suck
I just checked out some videos and holy shit, I hate his voice
They did what? Ugh. That reminds me of what they did in the Mickey Mouse Clubhouse show (I only know this because I babysit). They gave Toodles a face and a voice, which was way too weird for me.
...I just realized they could've had a better chance if Poof was older. Imagine this: instead of a baby, Poof is introduced as Cosmo and Wanda's son who was away at Fairy College. Timmy doesn't know about Poof because godparents aren't supposed to tell their godkids about their real kids. A rivalry begins between Timmy and Poof because they feel like they're competing over the same parents. This sets up a dynamic where the two love Cosmo and Wanda, try to constantly outdo and sabotage each other, but also might genuinely care about each other (like feuding brothers in a way).
This would give Poof more of a reason to be there and it would have a foil for Timmy with weight- he wouldn't just be sharing godparents with another kid. He would be sharing godparents with _their_ kid. Plus, maybe there could be subplots that build on Poof. Like Poof wants to quit school because he believes he's ready to be a fairy godparent, but his parents don't want him to or don't know about it. Or, on the opposite side, Poof has graduated but isn't ready to settle down with a kid. In that case, being with Timmy might teach him patience and show him that he really is ready.
Brilliant idea, you are a genius
So Timmy gets an older brother
Heck yeah
I think trying to keep poof safe and unknown to humans would have interesting if they had gone for more than one episode.
That would have been an Amazing Idea to See... Plus it would be given Poof A Real reason to Stay Besides being A plot Device... Genius Idea Man Well Done!:)
.... Go on...*Moss with Popcorn meme*
To be honest, I wouldn't call Fairly Odd Parents "one of the best animated shows ever created" even in its early seasons. It's a great kids show made by extremely creative and talented people, and it's a lot of fun to reminisce about. But it's chaotic energy and straight-forward, somewhat predictable humor make it a show that you just sort of outgrow. Even as a kid I could feel myself outgrowing it around the age of 10-11. Then Channel Chasers came out and seemed like the perfect wrap up for me. I still appreciate it, but I don't find it nearly as entertaining as I did then, unlike other cartoons like Spongebob seasons 1-3, Dexter's Lab, or Adventure Time.
Shows like these are very formulaic, shows like Phineas and Ferb and Kim Possible you kind of outgrow after a while. I would personally prefer a show such as The Amazing World of Gumball which isn't exactly formulaic but even if it doesn't have a plot, its humor and exploring themes not normally explored by cartoons really made it a reckoning show.
@@doodleproductions7552 it's been almost 20 years and I still watch Kim possible, so no, it isn't a show that you can outgrow with time, Phineas and Ferb yes, but Kim no
@@justanotherchannel3085 I suppose it's a matter of taste then, I'm just stating that due to the formulaic nature the tendency of a show to entertain slips by adults in mind-numbing nature, while adults can still find entertainment in these shows a larger part of these formulaic shows is targeted towards children.

"Let the creatives be creative." This genuinely means so much to me.
its gonna be a fight between corporatism vs creativity
Season 1-5 are a big part of my childhood, especially the crossovers with Jimmy Neutron. I would also say Spongebob season 1-3 + something more forward
I liked sparky. actually I only liked him cause it was my dogs name whom got lost. 😔

The more I think about it, this show could’ve had an amazing finale.
Like Timmy’s life begins to turn around, then he finally loses his fairies but his adult life is great compared to his childhood
it's canon in the show that timmy wished for everyone to stop aging so that he could keep his fairies forever, and i would've loved to see him reverse that wish :(
@@meekire there was a big 3 episode project where the ending had timmy grew up and having kids. That to me was the ending of the show
@@meekire Yeah in the end he found a memory box he dug up when he was little that had a picture of him with his fishbowl and he smiled at it. It was really cute.
The ending we deserved
Channel chasers is the one true finale
You now what, I'm going to say it. Remy buxaplenty was an excellent character, cutting him was big mistake.
He added tension, was an amazing foil to Timmy and already knew about fairy godparents due to the fact he had one
4:45 I guess you never watched Johnny Test before
Lol
Y did they introduce chloe, they could have just used tootie (an already well established Character that the audience know is miserable)
Chloe doesn't even deserve fairies. She has loving supportive parents. It would've been better if they made her a side character to make Timmy resent his parents and learn that every they love him in their own way and that every family has their own problems and if they needed to sharing plot they shoud've used Tootie. They could've made her friends with Chloe for the same reason but with a running gag that she thinks Timmy likes Chloe so she sometimes does mean things to Chloe and she has to help fix them because she realizes that it's bad to do that.
If they never put blondie in , I would still watch the show. I liked poof and sparky because they were entertaining, enjoyable, they made sense, they didn’t feel forced, they weren’t shoved into the show because some angry sexist mums were complaining about “the lack of _fEmAlE eMpOwErMenT_ “
Edit: fricked up
I think because forever ago before Poof, Tootie got fairies but she was doing too much & then Timmy tricked her into giving them up. So I assume that can’t be undone?
@@yukikanegawa7470 I agree. Tootie needed Cosmo and Wanda way more than the blonde rat🤷🏾♀️ she was so miserable and I felt horrible for her bc Vicky was her sister and Timmy had her as his babysitter, then he got fairies bc of Vicky, but Tootie has to suffer and you add a new perfect character to have fairies? That doesn’t slide with me😬
Thanks for sharing a valuable perspective
Love you videos man I need more videos Like this
Fun fact: Icky Vicky was originally written for Eminem but it was too brutal for him, so Chip Skylark performed it himself
Ok who here thinks that poof was an ok character, he didn't change any of story too much to the point where he annoying, and sometimes poof can be fun to watch. I am ok with poof, but why sparky and Chloe, it seem too much and very weird just to have them on the show
Fantasyland And these’s the problem, Poof didn’t change much of the story, but I agree, Poof wasn’t terrible, but it grinded the series to a halt since nothing worthwhile was happening anymore. Dog and not Trudy were just extra ramps for jumping more sharks.
I liked Sparky to a degree because his plot for his debut episode was genuinely sad. But then he was like, a cab or bus driver all the time? The show no longer made an effort, they could have chosen to take themselves seriously with the episodes in spite of executive meddling. I don't know, maybe not. I feel bad for the show
Poof wasn’t someone you particularly liked. But he didn’t ruin any part of the show for me. Sparky made me start hating the show the same way I hate newer kids shows today. Where they’re just obnoxious. But chloe made the show so bad I wouldn’t ever even watch it.
Poof invented foop. Which made for some memorable anti-fairy moments
How old are you ?
loved the show in its infancy. great memories!
thank you for the history!
I am loving your channel :)
*Who Destroyed Fairly Odd Parents*

🤣🤣🤣🤣
Ahh the old nostalgia 😂
I like Poof, he was a okay character, and was a alright addition to the cast, it Sparky and Chloe who were just unnecessary.
See, Poof actually had potential since they were literally building a character from the ground up, and actually let grow, but instead they preferred to have no further development and instead force new characters and force new dynamics.
He got his own chaotic Episodes, created Foop and his slapstick humour and wasn´t really a pain in the ass as dialogue and actions were limited, unlike the annoying dog from hell and the most unnessecary charater ever.
Seriously, they could have made Tootie fill out her role and maybe give her some character development so she isnt the stalker girlfriend trope.
The live-action movies even have her as a established love intrest, why not make it canon in the animation as well?
Brainbot Jezebel tbh I liked tooite aka deep toot
I actually thought Poof wasn’t a bad idea. I remember watching his introduction and thinking ‘that make sense, Cosmo and Wanda should start a family’. Smh Nickelodeon keep killing good shows
I agree, they should've just stopped after Poof. He was perfectly fine and fit with the show and characters. ☺
I have never seen a clip of the flash animated season of the show. You showing those clips made me get whiplash. It was so jarringly different, and how the characters moved was so flat
The editing in this video is phenomenal.
I miss when you could see timmy’s friends in the show, they slowly phased everyone that used to be a big part of the show out for new characters, it got old due to this
LittleMissEevee it’s better to see timmy growing up, forcing cosmo and wanda to take care of another child
I loved aj, Chester mcbatbat, trixie, tootie, etc
They just kept adding characters in an attempt to keep the show popular.
I believe Nickelodeon execs told them to.
Ronniebon I have no doubt about that.
Well, it never actually works to add characters. But at least MLP did that correctly for the sake of storytelling not merchandising, despite it's a franchise.
not only that but character TEMPLATES and one MIRROR
This is the equivalent of amputating someone's limbs to keep them alive.
Love your background music ❤️
I literally didn't notice that they cut most of the characters and made poof and sparky disappear when Chloe popped up i also realized that the creator has been going off and messing up his reputation by tracing good art and changing alot
Note: Sparky died on the way back to his home planet.
Heh heh, good riddance.
**good**
Never once i thought there'll be a dog whose death worth cheering over.
Martin Hennigan wait really??
I’m glad someone else made the reference to poochie that should have been in this video. :D
Wow, I live in Mexico and I had never heard of Cloe and Sparky, guess the show got so bad they didn’t even bothered translating it any more
I live in argentina and I saw some of the episodes with them
Im just imagining Nickelodeon realizing how badly they fucked up and sparing other countries by not translating.
hi jcn. btw onision is onion?
Si trajeron todos los episodios. Incluso cuando cambiaron la animación y esa temporada fue la última
I saw one episode maybe two with Sparky, but never saw Cloe. Maybe I was lucky old enough or they stoped translation in Poland too
Nice video analysis. Subbed
I love all your choice of music, I can hear a bit of forrest gump by Frank Ocean in the background
Anyone with a brain: Hey you know what was really cool? The Crimson Chin and Crash Nebula. Superheroes are insanely popular right now, so maybe we could do more with them? Butch's style isn't really toy-friendly, but the more muscular characters could make it work.
Nickelodeon: Nah put in the worst designed animated dog ever created, a girl who just makes us miss when Timmy was a character that could actually have a foil, and a baby. But get this, COSMO is gonna be pregnant. Aren't we hilarious?
God yes, I loved Crash Nebula and the Chin! I don't think I could have stood it if they made the clearly 50s era themed FoP heroes into some Marvel and DC she appealing wannabes. Maybe it's a good thing FoP ended. Could you imagine the cringe if those two characters had to be modernized in-universe in order to reflect our world right now? Things fell apart right around the episode about a smartphone.
i think Butch actually tried to make a Crash Nebula Spin-off/movie, (something like Pinky and Brain, Evil con Carne, etc) and the "Crash Nebula" episode would act as the pilot episode would but it ended cancelled
I loved this show, it was this show, Jimmy Neutron and SpongeBob. They were like my go-to tv shows as a kid
Just Some Guy without a Mustache, how did you get here?
My god, whyyyy
The Holy Trinity
Just Some Guy without a Mustache I loved the Nickelodeon trio
Don't forget about Danny Phantom.
Great video
I loved watching this show when I got home from primary school and still love catching reruns
I actually liked Poof, he wasn’t that bad. I stopped watching when Sparky and Chloe were introduced
I freaking loved poof. Cute as a button. And I like all his fights and conflict with foop the square baby. A lot of the Episodes with poof in them were pretty entertaining. To me, anyways.
I stopped at chloe
Dude I fricking loved poof. He was like the most memorable non main main character from the show.
I kept watching but then I left because it got boring
I stopped at Poof.
title: how three characters destroyed the fairly odd parents
my brain: *remembers in detail every memory of me trying so hard to repress pure anger and hatred towards chloe*
I could barely make it through the new title song
That slowed down Frank Ocean Forest Gump background track near the end is very calming and a smooth exit to your video. Just thought i’d note.
no amount of therapy will ever make this moment ok
The simpsons had a gag where homer designed this dog for the tv show bart and lisa watched, and people hated it so much it killed the entire viewership.
This is that gag, but in the future, and it's real lmao
Except that writers had the decency to kill of the dog after seeing that people hated it.
Rayan Zahrani Went back to his home planet.
Chloe sounds like Timmy and all the baby does is say “poof.”
Hot Rod Bod and Sparky sounds down right annoying
Are you talking shoot 2:40? Yeah that’s not her voice lmao
Um, actually, poof says, "poof poof" very big difference. ;)
I like Poof but I would have liked to see him grow up a little bit with the show! It ended at Sparky and specially Chloe for me (and most people it seems like)!
As someone who aged past this show and stopped watching before all this went down, this video was very fascinating. Never new this happened. I didn't even know those last 2 characters existed
Sparky: " I have to go, my planet needs me"
Sparky died on his way to his home planet
