@Ahmd Bin Arif I have plenty of options. How does choosing Samsung eliminate other potential options? If I chose Sony, would the same be true? I chose my Samsung Note 9 because at the time it best suited my needs. If Sony were to release a phone that would suit my needs, I would purchase their phone. Sony however seems to be going in a different direction that does not catoe to my needs, but that is just fine. That's the beauty of choice and competition in the market. A Sony doesn't suit my needs, but it might yours. Just like a Samsung might not suit your needs, but it does mine.
@@ThePaulKM yes. I agree. I use Samsung to before, plus, I've used Xiaomi, Blackberry, and Samsung, now I'm on Sony. Not because it's the best, but it's just my preference due to it's manual camera capability when taking still photo, EIS on video recording, dual front facing speaker, well optamize software, and brilliant battery quality over long term use. To be clear, I use Sony Xperia XZ1, old, but powerful until now. I use it since 2018, but in 2019, I bought Galaxy Note 8 and gave this XZ1 to my brother just to experience Galaxy Note 8. Yes Note 8 is so good for productive because it's easy to do work on phone screen with it's pen. I used it a lot to edit photos and videos on it. But now I have a laptop, so I decided to change it back to my XZ1 and gave that Note 8 to my brother. Do I felt like there's no option, no. Not at all. Android is android, it's way easy to change to other android device. Plus, Android has so many options when it comes to self preference. SONY and LG is good for professional video maker. Funny how people buy IPhones which does small changes to the camera and sells it at a massive price people buy it! Sony changes it completely and adds Zeiss tech which is not cheap and add headphones and people say its expensive!

I just pre-ordered this phone. I live in Sweden and we are gonna get this phone earlier. I will get mine on 22nd June. The last phone I had was a Xperia XZ2 Compact. I also have a Galaxy Note 10 plus 12/256gb with the mediocre exynos processor. And trust me the Sony Xperia is just way better if you are a purist and don't like to show off. I also got the the WH-1000XM3 headphones free with the phone.
Honestly I was going to get this phone, but the lack of a higher refresh rate might make me go for the note 20+ (I got to used to the higher refresh rate and 3D FaceID with my Pixel 4xl - the two main reason I got it in the first place vs the note 10+). But since I will keep it I might just get the Sony. Waiting for note 20+ to be released to make a final decision. 🤞🏽

@@1ce2berg I am not still spoilt to the high refresh rate trend. And even if i want to buy, we cannot buy Pixel phones in Sweden. Google isn't officially selling Pixels here. I am a hobbyist photo-cinematographer so I like to have a camera which results images that are as close as possible to reality n terms of colours along with full manual control with raw images in all the back cameras for photo and video both. I also prefer stock/near stock Android with no notches/punch holes. After using a galaxy note 10 plus i learnt the hard way that we need at least some bezels with flatter displays. That bezel less waterfall display galaxy is horrible in terms of ergonomics. The recent trend about having a higher dynamic range and the intimate Pixel peeping friendly highest resolution don't matter to me as a photo-cimematographer as much as having maximum control over my imaging tool.

This is definitely a one two punch from Sony. Wow-we, vastly improved 📷's. The 4k beautiful display. Pricey at 1200.00 bucks USD but maybe worth it's weight. A flagship with a jack, very nice. For the first time ever, I may have to give this phone a long look see?
4k is overkill for a smartphone, a 120Hz QHD panel would have been better (would have also helped with battery life and performance). Pretty much the only nitpick I have.

Can't wait for what Sony planned to pull with the delayed battery test for software update. But considered Xperia 1 also with 4K HDR had such small capacity like 3330mAh and still managed to score 79h in endurance test which it about 5-6 hours SOT we can expect the mk II with 4000mAh to be good
I think the endurance will be pretty good here. First of all, the battery is much bigger then it was in the past year. And the endurance was already kind of "Ok" and average. Also, Sony is probably one of the best when it comes to optimizing the battery in terms of software .. Just take a look to the Galaxy phones. They have pretty much the same display on time as the Xperia 1, although the battery is much bigger (something like 5000 mAh whereas the Xperia 1 has just 3300 mAh).
In Japan they say emdurance is about the same. Enough for one day with heavy use. Being connected to 5G makes phones use more power. Techradar got satisfied with endurance.
i agree that size battery is going to be fine plus Sony always priorities battery life in terms of longevity vs fastest charging time and biggest battery.. based on my experience after a year you typically start seeing the gap shrink between Xperia and competitioners in terms of run time and especially by time the device reaches 3 to 4 years old

When enabled, if you're gaming and the phone is plugged in the charger, it won't actually charge the battery but will only meet your current power consumption. The idea is to limit heat generation (H.S. stands for Heat Suppression) and in turn battery degradation. -you can take pictures in 20fps! -dedicated camera shutter key -3.5mm headphone jack -dual stereo speakers with dolby atmos - 360 Reality Audio -game enhancer if you care about that -almost stock android UI, with no bloatware, guaranteed stable and good software -cinema pro app and photo app with mirrorless camera features. the best camera apps you can get. -Zeiss optics -the telephoto lens has the full-frame equivalency of a 70mm lens, meaning it's actually a telephoto lens - Eye AF which is an autofocus tool borrowed from the $3,500 Sony A9 camera. Eye AF can identify a face in your frame and then lock in on your subject's eye, work on animals too these are some of the features that stands out and if you pre-order the phone you get a pair of Sony WH-1000XM3 or WF-1000XM3 included ! This phone looks like a complete package only cons are front camera aren't that great, 60hz with fake 90hz and ofc its very expensive.

Note 20+ will nothing be too surprising. Reliable leaksters are already showing minor changes in the internals of the phone, heck they're even dropping the periscope lens of the S20 Ultra for a traditional telephoto camera on the upcoming Notes. The answer to question starting 9:50 is AUTO FOCUS performance. I'm a bit disappointed at this review for not considering testing the phone for what it claims to have 20 frames per second with Auto focus technology. In addition to image quality, AF accuracy does matter a lot to get the most out of your images. It lets you shoot moving objects all sharply focused and further gives you the tools to expand your creativity with every capture such as candid shots and freezing a moment of time during a high speed capture in all its glory.

Perhaps the only distinct phone nowadays. Everything else looks the same... Samsung, Xiaomi, Huawei, Motorola, Nokia, LG, throw their phones in a pile and cover up the branding and chances are you won't be able to know what's what. Not sure if that's a good thing or a bad thing. I quite enjoy my new Xiaomi phone with it's teardrop notch and gently curved design. But I'm glad to see another company making phones that look... distinctive.
I'm really glad that this thing ended up being a really solid device. I loved the design and inclusion of a headphone jack when it was first unveiled. The rumored price (which was accurate) kind of had me a bit weary, but I don't think it's unreasonable in today's market. If comparing to the other major $1,200 phone on the market (S20 Plus), you get a higher resolution screen, double the storage, a headphone jack and better cameras. But all in all, this is really just another nice flagship option for those of us who still value the headphone jack. For me, I'll probably consider it more realistically if I can snag it for closer to $1,000. I won't be in the market for a new phone until October, so I'll be keeping an eye on prices then.

Also it comes in handy when I want to use Adobe Acrobat. I use that phone because I don't have laptop or PC at the time. Super useful for me. But now I have a laptop, so I decided to change it back to my XZ1 and gave that Note 8 to my brother.

The idea is to limit heat generation (H.S. stands for Heat Suppression) and in turn battery degradation.
-you can take pictures in 20fps!
-dedicated camera shutter key
-3.5mm headphone jack
-dual stereo speakers with dolby atmos
- 360 Reality Audio
-game enhancer if you care about that
-almost stock android UI, with no bloatware, guaranteed stable and good software
-cinema pro app and photo app with mirrorless camera features. the best camera apps you can get.
-Zeiss optics
-the telephoto lens has the full-frame equivalency of a 70mm lens, meaning it's actually a telephoto lens
- Eye AF which is an autofocus tool borrowed from the $3,500 Sony A9 camera. Eye AF can identify a face in your frame and then lock in on your subject's eye, work on animals too

This phone has to be my Favorite 😍 smartphone in 2020, but let's see if Asus And Samsung and other Brands that is still yet to launch a smartphone will surprise me, but at the time the Sony Xperia 1 II is my favorite phone of the year. I just love it ♥️♥️♥️
Samsung already launched its smartphone for this year
@@rahulrajrai1996 no I'm talking about the note 20 which hasn't been launched yet.
Note 20+ will nothing be too surprising. Reliable leaksters are already showing minor changes in the internals of the phone, heck they're even dropping the periscope lens of the S20 Ultra for a traditional telephoto camera on the upcoming Notes.
Just the fact that it has a screen cutout alone makes it inferior to this Xperia 1 II. Multimedia is one of the most performed task in a smartphone, and having a cutout simply ruins the point of a full-screen design purpose.
@@1ce2berg well as said already, multimedia is what we consume the most on a phone and this phone has a 4k oles hdr without a cut out so it's better than the s20. Videos are still shot in 30fps
Finally, a different phone
First time i heard good remarks for sony xperia from gsmarena. I own a sony xperia z ultra and xperia xz premium. Before i dont like the z ultra because of the camera without flash but when i bought it i realize that you've got to have it before you judge it. When i bought my z ultra its already old enough that i bought it brandnew for only $150 my wife that time bought the newest samsung. And that time z ultra was 2 years older than that of my wife samsungs model. But now my z ultra still stay its charge more than my wife samsung. Im not saying buy all sony product and be a fan. But check it personally.
Watching it on my Xperia XZ(2016)....and it still going perfect in 2020.
This phone is perfect 😭
Headphone jack, expandable memory, led notif light, no notch. What a time to be alive!!!
Not to mention being able to use the phone with the battery off. Plus the music app no need for 3rd party "permission for this, that, there, here" nonsense. And 4k screen. This phone here is amazing sucks it costs so much and the screen is a bit to big for my taste. Wish there was a smaller screen version for the x1mll.
headphone jack this about audiophile, hi-res 24-bit/192kHz FLAC or DSD, remember Sony is audio quality
@@Dimas-uc9vj Sony is a king of audio.. I still had a sony walkman and 90s Sony Speaker and they are still better than Bose for me.
I used the Xperia one now because of bad iPhone experience.
oh... PS1 is also the best CD player in the world.
Im just buying for the 4K resolution!
If you're just buying for the 4k screen you could get the Xperia 1, it has the same display and its a lot cheaper.
@@algaeweed except it's not the same display
why? This is pretty much the biggest nonsense ever. This "feature" has just no reason to exist.
Is the 4k resolution run natively at all time ? Or does it run at full HD and only switch to 4K when we play 4K content?
@@Raja995mh33 We also didn't need full HD until we got used to it. Use that 4k display for a few weeks you'll never want to come back. (as in the joke)
I bought the Xperia 5 and I absolutely love the slim size of these sony phones. 6.1 in display is a great look and fits in my pocket well. I had to get away from mainstream androids and who better to go with. Sony is quality all the way through. Former note 8 user.
Not a single mention of real-time eye autofocus for people and animals...
Which is what everyone else banged on about....🤷🏼♂️
Most of these common reviewers give quick generic reviews. Which isn't a bad thing for the average users.
Juan Bagnell and the photography channels does a better in-depth review.
Yeh it's a real game-changer considering the razor-thin DoF you're working with on this phone
@HaSanMDD Every flagship have Dolby
@@mr559 What bothers me is that they will make generic reviews for brands like Sony, LG and so on. But they'll give you an infomercial for Samsung or Apple.
The color accuracy and resolved detail in the photo samples looks great. I wish more smartphone makers strived for that instead of that cringy HDR look. There's a reason real photographers almost never aim to have HDR-looking photos and instead shoot for either more realistic or unique/creative composition.
I wish i have the money to afford one of this.
ive beenwaiting for this review and now its here, ima buy this phone for sure
This phone is straight up fire. Pre-ordered mine from B & H. Coming from a Pixel 4 XL.
Will you buy the Pixel 5 XL when it comes out in November because that'll be better than this?
@@scorpion199227 no. I will hold off. I am more than sure this phone is what I have always wanted.
They have a headphone jack !!!.. how cool and refreshing. Never thought I'd say that .
At this point, only LG still retains the headphone jack on their flagship phones. Still, glad to see Sony includes it back.
8:46 damn! The cinema pro app looks amazing!
I'm not a gamer, but when I saw the specs, I was amazed especially in the part of camera, the ZEISS lens is amazing!!
Simply one of the best high-end of the year, with no pretentious innovations
In uk i just pre ordered this phone for 799 and receive the WH1000XM3 worth £250 for free as a pre order bonus so phone realistically costs 550 so im very happy with my deal
Xperia 1 EMU o2 online only place i seen where csn pre order
Xperia 1 EMU if you take out the cheapest contract because its a o2 refresh contract you can cancel anytime with no penalty so if wait to receive the phone then claim headphones then ring them up say i want to cancel you pay 799 and can get a sim only plan from anywhere want i think its unlocked you don’t pay for the contract just the phone i rang them today
Xperia 1 EMU its up to you mate but the deal is there if want it i dont know where to get it sim free at moment i cant find it sim free only o2 i seen it
Something good is happening in smartphone industry 👍🏼
Good to see something different too
Benchmark is BS, the Xperia 1 was not slower than other flagship and it performed faster than most flagship..higher refresh rate won't make the phone faster lol, it only feels smooth but the display quality is lower. The reviewer is already complaining lol, u will never see him complain about iPhone or Samsung like that lol...every phone has weakness
Agree... 90hz and 120hz panel really took down battery usage, and its pretty a gimmick, if most of apps (especially games) didnt support hfr
and most of oled 90hz panel, got issues for durability... too many rog phone on my service table to repair cz just a small drop
Butthurt sony fan take it easy , he praised the phone a lot too .
@@kasadam85 This is the problem though. A reviewer has to review such a product in all fairness other wise what's the point? Good thing I make my own reviews and get what I want after some research. That's what's wrong with reviews now a days can't trust any of them. Some reviews even miss features in said "review". If you are going to do a review do it the right way or don't even bother really.
Sony usually has the best phones
U only person check the detail in camera review.... That helpful us... Keep going... Go-ahead success...
I used to have sony xperia before . Only using iPhone now as my partner and most of my friends are using iphone. But man! Sony is a baddie! I’m defo going back to Xperia one day
Those small bezels are so much nicer than having a notch or holes on a display in my opinion!
I'm that dude that watches movies on his phones. So yes. This is the phone for me!
Except Netflix and Amazon are capped at 1080p, and brightness isn't much to write home about. So that 4K is pretty much specs only.
@@Jeroenneman Well, Xperia 1 of last year, Netflix did support 4K (Amazon Prime was not mentioned). The reason it capped at 1080p for Netflix due to COVID-19 pandemic and lower bandwidth is taken place as people are working from home until the pandemic is finished. Well, for brightness, It has to do with the longevity of the OLED screen itself, especially higher resolution.
@@SchneeHeldPascal7 you Sony fans have excuses for everything , who even uses their phone in full brightness all the time ? A higher brightness is a plus .
12 MP and gives best images.. Great in the current scenario
iPhones, Pixels and now the Xperia 1 II just proof that those stupid high resolution sensors most Android manufacturers are using are nothing but stupid.
@@Raja995mh33 Numbers don't matter unless you have old gen Nokia lumia phones
@@Afnan912 Those numbers never matter. Even on the old Lumias. The Lumia 808 and 920 just had absolutely massive sensors - even compared to like the S20 Ultra. The Pixel size was still pretty good even with this resolution - something you can't say about current phones with 40+ MP cameras.
Great review as always! You've convinced me to buy this amazing phone. Can't wait for July 24th!
the heat suppression look beast, make your phone still function and can continue play your games without actual charge your battery so your phone don't go overheating because of using while charging
But I'm glad to see another company making phones that look... distinctive.
curved design screen is so fragile
All the ppl complaining about the price need to know the price will come down after few months.
only 100 or 200 $ tho after 1 or 1.5 year later
Waw I fell in love with this design, very elegant and above all looks nothing like the others on the market
Did Sony finally use their sensors well in a phone? Crazy.
You didn't mention the 20fps burst mode and Eye auto focus on both human and animal, these features we're the highlights of the phone yet you didn't mention it.
It's the dude from "no country for old men"
Sony phones are amongst the best in the industry. Solid specs and the only phone with a 4K display! They stick their guns with their design which I admire. It does try to separate itself from it's competitors, which is a good thing to have some options.
I agree with you, they are not being generic and I definitely like that.
This may well be my next phone! I've been wanting to try a sony for years...
Болгарам привет!)
So no one gonna talk about adaptive charging(H.S power control)introduced by SONY. Which is more useful than 4K display
Sorry SONY your marketing sucks
So sad
A flat screen? Thank goodness..
Yes and no camera Notch either.. i ordered mine !!
@@gottapointthere7912 did you get the headphones?
@@lucianistoc1264 I never got the phone was backordered like 2 months so I'm going to wait..
@@gottapointthere7912 oh, that's not nice. Let me know if you get it.
£799 + free pair of WH-1000MX3 headphones in the UK (which you could sell for about £200) - a flagship SD865 phone from a mainstream brand for £600 is a bargain
I am a sony xz premium user.
This xperia 1 ii is absolutely the best upgraded version of xz premium.
Unlike the previous sony phones that missing 3.5mm audio jack, and weird fingerprint sensor setup.
I really love xzp and this phone is what i need to upgrade my zxp.
If only the price is the same as samsung s20 in my country, i might buy this phone even not sold at authorized dealers.
