    I have these both. I got the A7IV thinking I would use it for video and my A7RIII for photography. Turns out I can't see a difference between 42 and 33 megapixel until about 400%. So now I'm using the A7IV for both and will be selling my A7RIII. It's still an excellent camera. So glad you posted this comparison.

    Great video, one thing about the build quality though: A7R3 is fully magnesium but A74 is only partially magnesium with a plastic rear section. Overall the R line is built to a higher standard. I have heard about improved weather sealing on A74 but it has not been tested by anyone yet.

    I was contemplating whether to upgrade to A7 IV, but in the end, I gave up since I'm shooting mostly landscape and almost zero videos and the difference in price (selling old and buying new) is pretty significant. But if I didn't have A7R III and had to buy a new camera, it would definitely be an A7 IV, because when buying they are almost the same price.

    A7iv is a nearly perfect camera for everyone. Better ergonomics, resolution, video and menu than earlier models. It's a jack of all trades. Lack of 4K 60p full frame is the only thing that could be a deal breaker for video people.

  • @fotosvond_
    @fotosvond_ Місяць тому

    That's a tricky choice. I got my 7R III (A) for 1500€ new which is significantly less than the A7 IV, so for me it was not necessary to think about it for long. At normal cost, however, they are much closer.
    One of the benefits of the 7R III in video mode is that - compared to the regular A7 III - it shoots 4k30 uncropped, even though it's pixel binned. The image quality in video mode, however, is for sure better on 7 III and 7 IV due to their full sensor readout. Nevertheless, the visible difference without zooming in is not night and day; you can really enjoy the 7R III's 4K output. On the other end, 7 IV is definitely a more rounded video camera, especially in terms of stabilization and codecs for postproduction.
    Talking about photos, I have to say I am by no means a MP enthusiast in an ideological way, however I was always slightly unhappy with 24 MP shot in nature (so: lots of fine detail). There are occasions where 42 MP are beneficial, but I wouldn't consider them to be always necessary. 33 MP sits right in between, so maybe this is now really sufficient for allround shooting withouts regrets.
    You made a lot of fair points here, as always. ;)

  • @CosminCraiova
    @CosminCraiova 2 роки тому +3

    Hi ! I have the RIII for 1 year and a half now and I have the A7 IV for about 4 months. In overall feeling the A7 IV is a big upgrade, with the bigger and raised buttons, deeper grip and better joystick. Also the af is much better and eye af is much more dependable. The only thing I can say negative about the AF is that sometimes(maybe 5% of pictures) it front focuses a little using eye af on my Tamron 28-75 G2 and with my Tamron 70-180 is front focuses A LOT and verry often ! I can't really depend on it for important jobs ! I don't know if it's because of the lens or the firmware of the camera. I really wish Tamron comes out with new G2 versions for the 17-28 and 70-180 ! For the 28-75 the G2 was a BIG upgrade for me! For video is no contest, of course. Also the 9mp difference is more noticebly than you say it is, I can clearly see it zooming in that the RIII is still a little sharper than the A7 IV(btw, the A7 IV HAS AA filter, who reduces IQ ! ). Also at high iso the A7 IV is about 1 stop better than the old RIII, I can even use files at iso 12800 using dxo prime, in photolab 5. That's my personal oppinion with the two cameras. Keep it up with the review, I love your channel ! :)

    • @TheHybridShooter
      @TheHybridShooter  2 роки тому +15

      Thank you for sharing your opinion, but a lot of your information is incorrect. Sony released FW update which fixes Eye AF issues on A7 IV, make sure that you have the latest FW installed. I have actually said that if you zoom-in a lot, resolution difference will be more noticeable, the difference on 4K screens is pretty negligible. No, A7 IV does NOT have AA filter, I have checked that with Sony. High ISO on A7 IV is definitely not 1 stop better after downsampling, as you can see in the video. High-ISO performance is basically identical. Thank you, will do my best to keep it up!

    I have to disagree about the menu system. Have the A7 III, IV and Canon EOS R. A7 IV has clearly better menus than III. But that is a matter of perspective, as using a camera makes you learn it, and then menus are not such a big issue. Also the IV still retains some of the unnecessary convoluted menu design of the III.
    What I find a big issue is that the menus and pictograms on the IV are so small that I have difficulty using them by touch. So I don't use touch on them.
    On the other hand the EOS R has a wonderful menu system. Very very easy to learn, very very easy to use by touch, etc.

    • @TheHybridShooter
      @TheHybridShooter  2 роки тому +7

      I'm not sure what do you disagree with, I have said that the A7 IV menu system is much better, I would say that it is objectively better.
      That is indeed a matter of preference, I greatly appreciate that Sony put more options on the screen even at the cost of smaller items, it makes the navigation much faster and it is easier to navigate in comparison to Canon or Panasonic which use much less structuralized menu systems. I generally much prefer new Sony system over Canon menu system.
