This is the kind of music and sound that we are all missing today !!! Amazing album, reminds me great souvenirs , especially "Reach Out I'll Be There", I remember that this song was playing when I was a little boy while skiing with my family !!! Thanks for sharing the album here !! Best Regards !! 🏆💯💪👏👏👏🎶🎵🙏🌠
i think i hear dthem first in around mid 70,s and the song that hooked me was (LAST CHANCE) WHEN THEY DO IT LIVE AND SOME OF THEIR HEAVIER TUNES THEY ALWAYS SHOW THEIR GREAT ABILITIES AND MUSICIANSHIP.AND THEIR MUSIC HA SA CERTAIN MARK OR FRESHNESS THAT TAKES YOU WITH THEM YEAH I KNEW VAN MCCLAINS DAUGHTER A BIT IN KANSAS WHAT A COOL HOUS EWITH STUDIO AND SUNBURST LES PAUL.HMMMM!
Makes me sad that I never heard this band while a teen in the 80s but am thrilled that while Im turning 50 next week, I get to enjoy them now and feel like I am back in middle/high school again. Burning is such an AMAZING song!!! On a side note, my 16 year old son loves the jams from this band.
So I've been listening to 3 full albums for Shooting star the self titled, hang on for your life and this one for the very 1st time and my mind is completely blown away soo many great songs. Thanks for nothing radio stations and a huge thanks for the fans uploading their albums 😀 you rock 🤘🤘

You just gotta remember that at this time, it's 39 years ago ffs, when this came out there were bands like Metallica, Iron Maiden, Def Leppard ohh so many, who were also just starting out but this was unique, it was not mainstream at the time. We had the NWOBHM but then we had this, which was just an amazing alternative. Now go check out Silent Scream, in my opinion their best album EVER
Nice. Sounds like Hi-Tech AOR but leaning more towards the organic instrument side of that subgenre. Great either way. Edit: or maybe melodic rock with HT AOR elements. Can't put everthin a box i guess.
First American band signed to Virgin (America) Records…proved to be a tragic mistake. Garnered a great deal of AOR format airplay 1979 through 1985. Label mangled their career. Substantial loyal fan base still count band as one of the best of its era and many more music fans continue to discover their 5 Virgin Records releases as they are made available through various mediums.
@@shootingstaroriginalbandfu9452 Yes they were the first American band signed to Virgin UK, but at the time Virgin UK had no physical presence in America. They were forced to rely on distribution deals with both A&M Records and Epic Records which distributed their albums there. Half of their artists roaster (Culture Club, Shooting Star) was distributed by Epic, whist the other half (Simple Minds, Human League, OMD) was distributed by A&M Records. Virgin didn't set up a physical presence in the US until 1993 shortly after they signed Janet Jackson away from A&M Records with a One Million Dollar Per Album deal, which was a huge deal at the time for a female artist. Herb Alpert at A&M was ticked off about it at the time since Janet Jackson had become his most successful artist and ended his part of the distribution deal with Virgin, which lead to Virgin's current distribution deal with Capitol-EMI. Herb Alpert would sell A&M first to PolyGram in 1998 and PolyGram sold to Universal in 2006. Both labels are now part of Universal Music due to the mergers.
They weren't obscure in the early 80s. They had quite a few moderate AOR hits and were on the radio quite a bit. They never quite broke big though like Journey, Styx and Kansas did at the time. That was mostly due to weak record company support, particularly with their masterpiece Silent Scream in 1985. That record should have put them on the level of those other bands, but there was a big shakeup in their record company and the new people that came in just let the record die on the vine right as it was released. Gary was so disillusioned (rightfully so) that he left the music business entirely. He and Van spent an entire year writing that record and pouring their hearts & souls into it, plus many months more for the band to record it, and it went largely unnoticed. A real shame, but that's the music business.
Gary West, lead vocals, keyboards piano; Van McLain, lead guitar, vocals; Ron Verlin, bass; Charles Waltz, violin, keyboards, vocals; Steve Thomas, drums. Songs written by Gary West & Van McLain.

How obscure would you consider Shooting Star to be?

Could someone please list the band members? I'd appreciate it.

I guarantee at least one of these dudes had a sweet moustache. I'm guessing the keyboard player.
