Yeah. I'm a teacher, and when incidents like this are reported, there are always voices that jump in to say, "This is getting blown out of proportion, it's not that deep, it was one bad decsion," etc. What alarms me more than the incident itself is the reasoning behind it. This wasn't a split-second bad reaction; it took forethought and multi-step planning. If they thought this was a reasonable thing to do, they don't possess the judgement necessary to work with children and keep them safe.

If I had had the poor judgement of wearing such a mask in front of children this young, and saw that I had frightened them, I would have immediately taken it off, lowered myself to my knees, show them the mask front and back, let them touch my face, and asked for their forgiveness once they had calmed down. Chasing after them, screaming, and threatening them with "you better be good" while they screech in terror is so cruel, it's beyond comprehension.

    • @spudders9288

Exactly. This is normal. The wearing of the mask for the first time can be attributed to poor judgment but as soon as you see that they are terrified the humane thing to do is to show them is not real and stop using the mask. The fact that they continued to do this shows that they were sadistic and just terrible human beings.

A similar incident happened many years ago with my Grandmother and Great Aunt in a nursing home. They both had dementia and were bedridden. My Grandmother’s wedding ring was stolen off her finger and we put a hidden camera in the room. Long story short, we found verbal abuse, neglect, pain pills were said to have been given but clearly were not. Six people were fired and we sued but settled out of court.

I am a preschool teacher. Children at this age are developing the social / emotional skills needed to function well outside of the home. As a teacher, my focus is on making sure they feel safe, secure, seen and are soothed when they are having trouble adjusting. This behavior is beyond unacceptable and the damage it can cause can be long lasting. My goal as a teacher is to see that my children have a positive foundation upon which to build so that learning is seen as fun. I hear from parents of children I have had in my class years later and they still talk about how much they loved Ms. S’,s class. I cannot fathom anyone doing this to little ones like this.

I'm also a preschool teacher to ages 1½ and 2. The preschool I use to work at....oh....my god. I had NEVER seen such a horrific preschool in my life. I mean, screaming, calling kids names, cussing at them, HITTING, grabbing. When I got pregnant, I was terrified to not only work in another preschool, but put my daughter in there with me. Luckily, the preschool I work at now is so amazing. The teachers all help one another, if you feel yourself getting overwhelmed, someone will come and help you or give you a minute, they treat the kids like they were their own children, their teaching method is research backed and on point. The only downside is the pay is shit, but a 75% discount is awesome 👌 those kiddos get the best there and I'm proud to have my daughter there as well. Edit: prob should mention I did report the actions that went on there. As there weren't cameras and because I moved states shortly after to help my dad, I'm not entirely sure what the outcome was. However, I will say, do not work at nor put your children in a preschool that starts with the word "Kinder". I don't know if I can legally say the whole name or where it was without it being considered doxing. But the reviews for "kinder" are quite bad, so yeah.

Years ago I dropped by an acquaintance's at-home daycare and as we were chatting, she suddenly stopped and screamed at a child for doing something trivial. The kid got such a shock. It was all too loud and sudden for the kid. The child couldn't catch her breath and the woman had to go into emergency mode to calm her down and get her to breathe properly again. Afterwards I learned that the kid suddenly developed a pronounced stammer after the incident. It lasted a few weeks and thankfully she recovered. I was just a teenager at the time but I often wish I'd had the mindset and confidence to tell the mom what happened.

The fact is not every at home daycare is bad … but every at home daycare is an environment that is not monitored well enough to know what’s truly going on. Really schools in general are areas where parents don’t know a lot of what’s going on in the classroom unless the teacher posts it on tik tok. Children at that age have a very vivid imagination, are fearful of very seemingly silly things to an adult AND do not yet have the vocabulary to articulate things very well. So, I can only imagine the confusion the parents must have felt when their children came home traumatized and talking about a monster! These women behaved in a sadistic manner. Children the ages of these can't differentiate between fantasy reality. They were obviously terrified, and I'll wager, will be scarred for years to come. One woman whose child was a victim in this situation, said in an interview, her son was never afraid of anything, but after this incident, is now afraid of everything. How can that be reversed? With extensive therapy, maybe these children will one day... "bounce back." If my child had been exposed to this level of appalling, systematic abuse, I'd want these women all convicted of felonies. I commented on videos that initially reported this incident and received hateful responses from people claiming these toddlers will just “get over it” (I’m going to take a wild guess that the charged daycare workers had this flawed and ignorant mindset as well). I have a background in early childhood, have worked with children since 2014, and yet…NONE of that should be required to understand how obviously upsetting and horrible this was. These children are already at such a sensitive age when Santa Claus and the Easter Bunny are capable of terrifying them. I cannot fathom the fear they experienced from something so intentionally horrifying. And I want to stress, this was a DAY CARE, not a haunted house! These people were being paid and trusted to look after these children, not to traumatize them. Many other commenters on other videos seem to miss that as well.

I am a former preschool teacher (25 yrs.) I have worked with all ages in daycare. One year while working with 4-5 year olds, many of them began talking about "Freddie Kruger" from the "Nightmare on Elm Street" movies. They were watching them at home 😞, and talking about them at school. I tried to tell them that he wasn't real (just an actor) but, none of them believed me. At this age (older than those younger children in this incident), it is hard for children to understand what is actually real in movies, etc. Shortly after, I came upon a magazine article about the actor. It pictured him as himself, next, in the process of being made-up & finally, fully in character. I got a copy & took it to my class to show & talk about. (I would not have shown this if the children had not first started talking about him being real & scary!) We talked about him as a regular, nice person who put on make-up to act in a movie. They finally believed me! One of my reasons for them knowing this was also a concern that some of their family members (older siblings, etc.) might have been using this character as a threat, if the children didn't behave at home.

We were also the **ONLY** ones on the entire ward for several nights (we stayed 5 overall), and there were three nurses on every night shift. Yet, the first night I let our nurse take him, she came rushing in where my son had clearly been crying for a WHILE (which can make newborns very sick, and even cause hernias from crying too long, not to mention he was literally starving, needing to be fed, and his social and emotional needs weren't being met, which sets a stage people downplay if it happens only a few times yet this was his earliest experiences as a newborn and teaches infant not to cry for their needs if their needs are consistently not met), and the nurse was all disheveled where she had clearly been sleeping and didn't care that it was lazy and unsafe, obviously didn't wake up when he cried, and must be all three of them were sleeping and not a one of them cared about the risks that posed. (I don't even care if they had taken turns sleeping with one staying awake to keep watch of him on little shifts, but nope, they were clearly all asleep.) Then his father gaslight me some more making me feel like I was making a mountain out of a molehill, so the next night very late and it took me a while because I was at a crawling pace to walk but wanted the post-surgery exercise, I walked up the ward past the nurses' station and watched my son WIDE awake in the dark, content but totally under-stimulated and being completely ignored while the two junior nurses sat at the desk with their backs to him absorbed in their laptops each with earbuds in their ears and didn't move when I went by, pretending like I'm stupid, then when I made my way back, as it took a long time for me to walk, the third charge nurse was back out at the desk from whatever backroom couch I'm sure she had been taking a nap on, the earbuds were out o the other two's ears and the most junior nurse who was assigned to us and had been sleeping the night before was holding my son like she should be, faking she cared and was interested and that she thought he was so cute, like I was an idiot and didn't know they are slathers. My son, and a host of many others, could've died choking on his own spit up, babies aspirate all the time, he could've had a SID, any number of things. I left a Google review and named the two junior nurses whose names I was able to gather, and my son's father was still more worried about me calling them out and that embarrassing him. I couldn't care less. They're lucky they didn't get fired, I hope they did once I reported it, especially the charge nurse, actually, who let it all happen by her "leadership." People who can't empathize with a newborn infant of all things, have no empathy for anyone, and the three of them were content to do it together. If someone is giving them an ounce more of work or they just happen to be in a bad mood, then they can have it. They think of the kids as their subordinates as opposed to someone that is paying to receive a service from you. Is there a significant difference between wearing a mask or simply ostracizing a kid you don’t like every single day until they cry? I just think that if they are going to charge these people with anything, they should also be charging everyone who ostracizes children and purposefully makes them cry and that would include entire school districts all across the country.

This kind of daycare behavior is more prevalent than you may think! I worked at a daycare center where the OWNER fed Chinese hot mustard to an 18 month old baby strapped in a high chair, bc the baby bit another child. Another woman teased a 10 month old with her favorite blanket.. (held it just far enough from the baby to make her cry), and one more of the workers faced an 8 week old infant toward a back door and hung a blanket over the child’s swing! Another child was put a foot from the snack table.. so she couldn’t quite reach snack while the others were eating!! It was my first and last day there!! I called child protective services that day! I was told hot mustard is food, and none of the instances are abusive! (I beg to differ, and so did the child’s mom when I told her) I called the nearest police station to see what could be done, and they told me to let the parents know.. this was 18 years ago, and I’m still traumatized! I can’t imagine how those babies felt! This daycare had a wonderful reputation in an affluent neighborhood. For the life of me, I can’t understand how people who don’t like kids could choose to work with them!

I’m blessed (or cursed) with a lot of memories from when I was very little, and I _remember_ when my fear of clowns started.
I was three or four and my parents took us to the Ringling Bros, Barnum and Bailey circus one night. I loved everything about it-until the clowns came out. I just grabbed my dad’s hand and stared in horror. My thought was, “What _are_ they??”
I had no idea they were people with makeup on. I wondered if they were aliens (I apparently had heard of space aliens by then) or if they were mutants-and I did _not_ know what a mutant was, so I just thought maybe they had some hideous deformities that made their mouths noses, and feet red and huge, their skin a horrible white, and made them unable to speak.
It was terrifying, and I didn’t understand why everyone seemed to like them so much.
On the other hand, my parents didn’t understand what I was thinking and I didn’t have the wherewithal to articulate it, so they wondered why I _didn’t_ like the clowns.
I remember watching some episodes of a TV show with Bozo the clown some time after that, however, and as soon as he opened his mouth and spoke normally, I felt less scared. I must have realized there was a regular person under there, or at least that he spoke and acted like a regular person, sort of.
People need to understand that little kids are like the real (much cuter) aliens, with no frame of reference to a huge chunk of experiences, the understanding of which we adults take for granted. And their brains are vulnerable and still developing, so they might not even have the capacity to perceive things the same way we do.

I worked in two different daycares for a few years. At both of them I witnessed the most horrific things. At one of them a woman dislocated a child’s shoulder. He was only 2. She was notorious for yelling at kids and leaving them in a “timeout” chair for hours even when they were screaming and crying. The owner and other workers were trying to cover it up and did not call the cops or fire her. I was obviously pissed about these things and I would always speak up, but be shut down by the majority and yes we had cameras but they were never recording. It was just for show. Because of this and the other incidents I quit and called the cops and the state. They did nothing. She still was working there. I did the best I could to warm other parents that I kept in contact with, I even left a review about it on their page that was deleted. Another daycare I worked at also did similar shady things like lying to parents, using forceful “timeout” methods, etc. No matter how much I spoke up I was shut down at both places and threatened to be fired. I am now a nanny and I like this a lot more. I love kids and I love my job. It breaks my heart to see these people tournament kids and get away with it..

I remember being a fan of some really scary shows and movies such as the Haunting- which goes full out in their terrifying depictions of demonic hauntings, etc. One of my sisters was a young child and she had come downstairs because she noticed that I was down there late at night and thought that she could watch something fun with me. I didn't even know she was down there until she ran upstairs after there was a scary part in the show. She still recalls what she had seen and she is an adult now. She can't stand watching scary things now even though our youngest sister loves those kinds of things. It did traumatise her in a way since she couldn't sleep and suffered through nightmares for a long time. Not sure if you ever watched the Haunting, but it was that episode where the young boy makes a friend with a ghost boy and it turns out to be a demon that could shape shift into a young harmless child. She watched the part where the mother hugs the child thinking it's her son but then the demon comes out and he warps back into the menacing figure that he really was...

I can attest to this first hand.
I was a day care worker and the woman that was in charge of the infant room... Would literally physically smack children. One in particular she didn't seem to like.
I took it to the director and they did nothing.
So I called the state and then I quit.
That was the second daycare facility I worked in where a worker laid hands on a child. The first I was stuck in a room with and she was a horrible and angry person that was not nice to little children. That daycare turned a blind eye too. I quit that job as well.
When my own children required childcare... I had them in a facility that had live feed cameras that the parents could watch from their device.
The bigger concern about this story is that we hire underpaid and undereducated people to take on the responsibility of one of our most precious assets.
There should be at the very least a degree or licensing required by anyone caring for the most innocent and impressionable of our society.
Live Cameras should also be mandatory. They don't stop everything but they certainly make daycare workers think twice about doing things like this.
      This is egregious.

I think the public shaming and loss of jobs and reputations is a punishment in itself, but it does feel like something else is required for the psychological damage they have done to those children. I experienced two comparatively mild incidents during my childhood at school and both left me scarred so I dread to think what nightmares those children are going through after being terrorised by people their parents had entrusted them with. Maybe those daycare workers need to do some community service. There definitely needs to be some penalty.

This is so sad! The challenging thing is that daycare/preschool is VERY expensive, yet it's often the only option for working parents. At the same time, the daycare workers do not get paid well. Especially classroom aids, it's a low paying job. So there is a disparity and sometimes people end up in these roles because they need a job, not necessarily because they have a passion for early childhood development. I wish we could pay people better for these jobs because they are important and we need the best individuals to help our young kids. As a parent, it's hard to find a childcare that you can trust AND afford.
