Just to be clear, I love ❤ all of my flight controllers even though I make sometimes critical statements these are just my personal opinion. Therefore, this is not a review or how-to guide but rather just something I wanted to share. Hope it will satisfy some curiosity about this throttle.

I've been using my TM warthog throttle for over 7 years now, it seems the only "improvement" they did is to change that crappy nipple cursor to an Xbox controller analog stick. IIRC they did this because the old supplier was gone, hence the "upgrade".

I got my first one in 2011 and had it for a few years, then I bought another one about 3 years ago. It's a shame that a company this big still sells this outdated stuff. How hard can it be to make a v2 and get a casting done for the throttle base and levers to prevent the twisting. A hall sensor for the sensor range zoom lever would have prevented the failure of my first one. If I would not have bought a second one I wouldn't have been able to have fun flying for a week or two. Although I can fix this stuff myself, not everyone can or wants to. They charge almost 330 bucks for this outdated thing. When I opened it up the first time, it looked inside like a Walmart RC toy and still does. Now I am using the Winwing Orion2 and don't look back. I could go on but..I rather take the time to check out your channel :)

Both the Warthog throttle and stick seems to have been to designed to be relatively cheap to make first, and then a manager demanded that they made it feel more premium. Hence the bodge job to add these metal plates.
The sad part is that it works and people still judge it as high quality just because of the decorative metal.

Totally agree with you on all points. From my perspective, the quality of construction does not justify the price. Thanks for watching and commenting! Cheers

What I look for in a HOTS is not what it's made of. What I look for is are the controls fine enough to do silly things like in air refueling that takes fine Throttle control and a very smooth stick. I have bought so many that simply did not do well in those categories. I have been looking hard at one of those and also the WINWING HOTAS systems but they are fairly big investments. Also WINWING will not deliver to me as there is only a post office here and everyone has a PO BOX and they will not ship to a PO BOX so that discounts that one. Only way to get one is to have a friend in the City to order it and then I have the extra cost of shipping from there to here. Not sure if there is another one that's better. And the Turtle beach one is out. I tried one of those at a friends and it was Horrible it took to much pressure to move it from center and that I will not have.

Great video. Back in the days there just wasn't much else. I went through many of these - like 4 or so. They all broke.
I only had to buy another myself as the rest was luckily still under warranty but it was a headache.
Mostly it was either the low quality switches, the cable from the throttle to the PCB, or the actual electronics themselves.
I never even used the plastic detent because if you do use it, it just wears out, especially if you do push over instead of lift.
Even the newest one I got back in the days was flawed though - for example if the LED's are not off or at 100% the slider axis would jitter due to the dimming of the LED's interfering with it.
So on the one hand I'm glad there is a newer revision with actual proper grounding and a replaced slew knob on the grip - but it's also sad they didn't do a bigger revision.
As it stands the warthog is vastly outdated, especially at it's price point.
I'm happy there is more competition in the market now, this really helps us all.

Yes, totally agree with you! This is number three for me with the same issues as you are pointing out. The plastic detent is hideous and the two plastic posts are an a joke. On one of my throttles, it broke and I couldn't find a replacement. I agree, this is no longer an issue though as of today there are many controllers are now available from other manufacturers which also updated to today's standards. Thanks for watching and your comment! Cheers

Love your tear down videos. Using theTM Warthog throttles for about 10 yrs. Perhaps it's time to upgrade.

It's hard to believe that they didn't update this model It seems so popular. This should be version 3 as it has been around for a decade or so.

Yes, I would love to see an update which would also include some cast or machined throttle housing. Thanks for watching and commenting! Cheers

Thrustmaster, Logitech and other larger-than-boutique-scale peripheral manufacturers tend to design a product and the production process in one go.
Incremental improvements is not something that is often considered as such changes would impact large scale production, which is where these companies create their margin.
The only update the Warthog has received is a different slew sensor, due to the original model being discontinued.
The Saitek X52 Pro is in essence the only “improved” model vs the X52, launched in 2007, 4 years after the X52 in 2003..
VKB, Virpil and Winwing operate in a completely different market space. Their products have much smaller production runs and as such it is easier to introduce incremental changes between these lower volume production runs.

Shocker to see so much plastic and far from premium electronics inside!

    • @crashmetwice
      @crashmetwice  11 місяців тому +3

Yes, same here. I think they charge too much for the tech they offer. What bugged me the most is that they just slapped some metal plates on the casing sides and the two bottom plates didn't make me feel any better. The inside has similarities to those cheap RC cars for kids from China. Well, I could go on but it is what it is. Thanks so much for your comment and watching my videos! Cheers

Glad I sent mine back for a winwing HOTAS. Looking at this, it just feels like complete disrespect to their customer base for the price.

Had the warthog for a year and a half before the 'sticktion' set in. Over all a bit disappointed in the HOTAS and TM use of metal in the description. The warthog stick I have gutted and modded the springs and now use it solely as a cyclic but the throttle is usable and have no issue with its function but will likely let it go in favour of a virpil cadet and just build my own button box around it.

Glad you were able to get something out of this throttle. Yes, in my opinion it isn't quality they put out to the masses. Thanks for watching and commenting! Cheers
