Have had mine for about three years...LOVE IT...and the throttle control. I added the Thrustmaster Pedals. What a perfect and professional-level setup. If I remember right...I think I paid about $600. for the stick and throttle. Another $120. for the pedals. The solid feel of the stick is appreciated! Soooo smooth.
@jonssmohr Eh im staying away from Winwing for a bit my ursa minor Airbus stick is contantly drifting on Y axis no amount of dead zone fixes it. and have to recalibrate every day.. Customer service is nonexistent and will not admit its defective and I even sent them a 7 minute video of the problem, they will not send me a replacement swap even sending back the defective one...
I like the grip but the base was horrible for me as it suffered the 'stiction' and it cost me £250. Ended up replacing it with a winwing orion (£260). Also have a Virpil Warbrd with alpha grip (~£400). These are much smoother than the warthog ever was. The warthog got gutted and springs modified to convert it to a dedicated cyclic stick.
Loved this! Bought cheap for the first year of my sim hobby then upgraded. You know what they say "buy cheap, buy twice" Been a Warthog user for nearly 3 years! Use it in DCS and MSFS including the PMDG 737 and it's just bulletproof. Can't wait for the throttle review also as it's every bit as good if not better for precise throttle control and programability around the boat or tanker. Seriously considering the Boeing yoke but don't fly the 737 enough. it's just starting to develop a slight sticky spot in the base but after literally thousands of hours it may be time to upgrade to the AVA base. Keep up the great content.
I'm considering the Ava base too, as I'm also starting to notice a bit of "stiction" on the stick, which after many years of use is probably pretty understandable. The throttle is really impressive, especially when used with 3d printed detent inserts, that allow you to do things like make it a very passable Airbus throttle. I bought the 3rd party airbus sidestick covered in the video also, which is less busy than the A10 original and also comes in handy for GA aircraft and some helicopters also. I think that TM themselves might be producing an airbus grip btw. Oh, I've just looked it up and actually got my Warthog setup 8 years ago, probably to the day. It's been a great servant, in various versions of MSFS, DCS and a few other simulators.
I'm new to GA flight simming but am a looooong-time space sim player. I have HOSAS (two Constellation Alphas from Virpil) that set me back a pretty penny, but it's extremely worth it. The construction alone is excellent, but everything else that goes along with it, including Virpil's excellent customer service, makes the premium price acceptable as far as I'm concerned. If I were only going to be playing something like MSFS, I would happily still be using a Logitech 3D Pro for $30.
£450.00 is a lot of money, but I've had my Warthog stick (and the FA18 one) and throttle for 13 years and they're still going strong. I've looked at other throttles from time to time, but just decided that if it ain't broke don't fix it. I've also got the Thrustmaster pendular pedals. Again, pretty pricey, but really, really solidly built.
Things like the Warthog HOTAS are a bit overkill for GA flying in MSFS. I’ve have a Warthog/AVA/Virpil pedals setup for DCS which is fab for combat flying. For MSFS it still works good, I just don’t map all the switches and stuff. BTW the AVA base is really good. I’ve broken three of the old Warthog bases in my time so it’s good to move away from the rubber band type mechanisms.
Prices of these things is ridiculous. I am still using my good old MS Force feedback 2 Joystick. It still works well after all these years. No force feedback in MSFS though. But you still get the pressure when moving the stick about.
I've heard the stuction is bad and springs too stiff. Do you guys use mods ? They have this on Amazon quite cheap. A lot cheaper than Virpil etc. So I'm torn...
@@nascimentol835 It was a while ago when I bought mine but I'd say around 3-4 months after purchase, as they are only made to order. Well worth the wait though!
@@nascimentol835 Mine took about three months, but that was back in 2022. It was easily worth the wait though. Maybe keep an eye out for Thrustmaster themselves though, as I'm sure I saw them mention a potential airbus grip for the warthog/ava base.
Great review, I currently use the Airbus Captain pack where the throttle quadrant plugs into the airbus flight stick, can you still do that with the Warthog stick or does the quadrant need to go in to your PC via USB?
Grip is good (there are better alternatives - Winwing/VKB/Virpil - Moza is looking promising) but the base is sub optimal and similarly priced competitors are so much better in that department. I can't remember how long I've had mine but I bought it as soon as it became available and I still use the throttle bundled with it back then. I will use the grip (as well as the older Cougar grip) again with a FFB base. Disagree about the ecosystem as the one thing that exasperates me about Thrustmaster and Virpil (and Winwing) is the connector. I have broken these on both my grips (the plastic alignment tab between the fragile pins) it does still work but makes plugging it in an exercise. VKB has the best solution (magnetic contacts) in that area and wish that was the standard.
My only problem with the warthog kit is the throttle. Everything feels excellent minus the throttle itself. All that metal and quality yet the throttle levers (below the handle into the unit) are pretty crap plastic. They quite easily flex and wiggle. That's really unfortunate as everything else is very premium. The lock that allows separates the two throttle is also miserably basic and kind of crap when compared to the rest of the setup. None of it is the end of the world, but for nearly 500 bucks and with so much other good parts it felt like cut corners.
It is NOT worth the price. The Warthog is a VERY expensive MID-LEVEL grade stick. WinWing, VKB, Virpil are all higher grade for comparable prices. I flew a Warthog stick for a couple years, moved on to VKB and never looked back. If you're going to spend the money, skip the Warthog.
320 FO here. I fly Neo. With all due respect, The warthog stick is the closest feeling I’ve felt when comparing it to the Airbus real sidestick. Swap the spring and apply nyogel grease to the gimbal. So no it is not a Mid range stick, it’s just that it’s an older product with fewer iterations, hence the emergence of other companies. Just my take (Sorry for bad English, I am French)
With all respect. May be it ruined, but over a decade ago, with no innovation since then. Now it is far behind VKB or Virpil. Besides - it is not in the same league as bidget sticks. Either way, you're veeery late to the party.

Now purchase the Flightsimprojects Airbus grip to go on top. It will blow your mind
I've had mine for 3 years now would never change it
Not even with a Winwing Orion 2 or a Virpil Base?
No it's fantastic and I love it , very heavy and reliable if you fly Airbuses like me it's the nuts 😅

@@mikel5077 Yeah customer support is non existent but luckily i dont have problems with the Orion 2

I can recommend the VKB gladiator nxt evo stick if you want something better than the TCM but dont want to go all the way toe the 270 pound warthog.
Fsproject Airbus flight stick with the gator rubber is a must if you plan on using it mainly for airbus flying only downside is the wait time.
