    Not so fun fact: I saw this on Broadway the day of Ramin Karimloo’s (Gleb’s) last performance. At the end, instead of dropping his gun, he dropped to the ground and held it up to his head, about to shoot, after struggling, he lowered his hand.
    I didn’t know if this happened at every performance, but it was breathtakingly scary. Thought I would share.
    Amazing animatic!!!

      Oh shit, really?
      My... the spanish version doesnt do it, he simply does the same than here, and also, Anya first acts scaried on the throne before she faces him.
      Spanish musical did a great job, but, even if their work was gorgerous, all the actors had black hair, the Romanov were all with tanned skin and black hair, except one of Anya's sisters, and also dimitry was blonde, the only loyal characters to Broadway were Empress Marie, Lily and Vlad the rest are totally different.

      When I saw it in it's final weeks, Ramin took the gun, pointed it straight into her chest, screamed his lines out, cocked the gun and Anya screamed "DO IT!!!! DO IT NOW!!!" The entire audience gasped in terror! It was TRULY AN CAPTIVATING MOMENT! The longest pause that was only for a few seconds, felt like hours! Tears rolled down my face... it felt so REAL!

      They didn't but the execution of the Romanov family was done more in desperation than a planned event, they were likely being kept alive for political reasons in Yekaterinburg for a while (probably to eventually try them in Moscow more publicly) but the Czechoslovakian Legion (almost entirely by accident) was moving in on the city. The Bolsheviks were terrified that if the Legion found the Romanov's they would rescue them which would endanger the legitimacy of their government, so all of them were killed right then and there to make sure that couldn't happen.

      100%, and it’s why the new musical kinda annoys me. It doesn’t show you any of the horrific things that the Tsars did to the common people of Russia, it only showed you the Romanovs’ execution by the Bolsheviks, and it depicted Soviet Russia as a place that was instantly way worse for everyone than the Russia ruled by the Tsars. It made the Bolsheviks look instantly unequivocally evil, when all that just wasn’t true at this point in time.
      The Romanovs were a family who thrived and loved life because they benefited from the sorrow and oppression of the working class. I know this is a tough concept for a lot of people, but if your oppressors do not want to grant you your basic human rights and dignity and equality, you have to rise up and take it or you will never have it. Gleb’s perspective is very valid and it’s in my opinion more correct than the Disney fantasy of Anastasia and Dmitry’s perspectives.
      And clearly, as we saw, the rich who survived, who weren’t killed, don’t even have it that bad in Paris. They just aren’t AS ostentatious as they used to be, that’s why they’re so sad and downtrodden. They believed they deserved their wealth and prosperity no matter who had to suffer and toil under oppression for it, they miss the days when they got to have whatever they wanted because they think they inherently deserved it! These are not the victims they try to present themselves to be.
      “Stay, I Pray You” is my favorite song in the show, and the context of it makes me roll my eyes. Boohoo, it’s so sad that all these rich and prosperous people have to go be rich and prosperous somewhere else after they all danced on the backs of the poor and suffering daily for generations. It sounds like it belongs in Fiddler on the Roof, which is an actual story of oppression under Communist Russia. It sounds like Anatevka, LOL. That’s a song in which an oppressed minority similarly pine and grieve their homes when they have to flee to avoid being killed just for existing, and the emotional impact is very much earned for that reason. I feel sad for Tevye and his community who have to flee their already meager homes with no clear future because they are Jews. I don’t feel sad for the Count and his contemporaries of bourgeois fucks and “intellectuals” who have to go to Paris and be a little less rich than before because they are rich. I feel nothing when he recognizes and kisses Anastasia’s hand. Their bond isn’t that of suffering oppression together or fighting injustice together, or even just living together as a community. Their bond is built off of their status that inflicted oppression onto others.

      She's literally like "do it bro". Its exactly as I imagined it. Anya's a badass
      Edit: i saw the play. You were right. She fell back into a chair during all this and only got up to say "I am Anastasia". But i still take this as canon.
      Honestly her being utterly terrified during this characteristically makes sense during the whole play she was tramautized over witnessing her family's death. But I wanted this to be the moment when she realizes her strength and faces her fear head-on without doubts or regrets.
      Yes no one wants to die but to stare death in the face and not bat an eye is such a power move. Especially when the person doesn't actually want to kill you.

    • @sentientmarshmallow4644
      @sentientmarshmallow4644 5 років тому +27

      Desiree Loveros my personal canon is that Anya wandered around Russia broken, traumatized, terrified, unsure of everything until she met Dimitri. She was described as a child as being a rambunctious prankster, a part of her she didn’t know. Dimitri through being irritating to her awoke that fighting spark inside of her and throughout the whole play we see her grow more confident becoming her old self. All that culminates in this one moment where she stares death in the face like she did all those years ago and does NOT back down. A real badass

    Gleb: Look at my face and see the people of Russia. Look at my face and see the faces of the people your precious father failed to rule. See their suffering, see the cold, the hunger, the fear, the desperation millions lived every day while your family laughed and played and danced. See the fate of families who loved each other as much as your family loved each other, doomed to live lives of misery, doomed to die early. People who looked to your father for help and support and got nothing but a face in a portrait. But only when it's a family like yours that suffers does the world pay attention. Only when it's people like you that other weep and ask why? Does the rest of the world care when millions of ordinary people suffer and die? What gives your family a greater claim to pity and sympathy than the rest of us?

Dimitry said it best: 'New Regime, same empty stomachs.' People went hungry when the Romanovs were in charge and the same people went hungry when the Communists were in charge. Neither government had the right to let their people starve anymore than the soldiers had a right to shoot Nicholas and Alexandra's children simply because they were born with the name Romanov.

Sadly it probably was the best call because the Czechs likely would have rescued the Romanov's if they could and they were going through Russia so hard and fast that it took Trotsky himself leading the worlds most powerful armoured train with hundreds of marksmen to finally stop their advance.

Stepan was involveid in the shooting of the Romanovs. In the play., I think that ( Gleb) is the equivalent of Stepan. He regrets what he did.and due to his past, he believes that he was doing the right thing. He falls in love with Anya without realising who she is. He is asked to kill Anya. He does try to kill Anya.but he can not bring himself to do it. A perfect example of a villain who lives long enough to be the hero.

    I just found this during a random Anastasia binge, but by god is this incredible!!! I got chills, your expression work is phenomenal. Thank you for sharing this wonderful piece!

    Okay, this is so amazing!! Your facial expressions, movement, everything is so beautiful!!
    (edit) I'm pretty sure I've broken the replay button. Anastasia just looks so regal, and that moment when her face sets as she's coming to terms with her impending death is just so moving to me. This whole animatic is just brilliant and I literally cannot stop rewatching it
    But I have to ask, where did you get the dialogue lines from? Is there a live action Anastasia movie or something that I've missed?

    • @kendraa7013
      @kendraa7013 6 років тому +13

      Wait a minute! Did you manage to get dialogue from the musical? Because I've been dying to find it anywhere since I can't afford a ticket, and I've come up empty

    • @mclemosj
      @mclemosj 6 років тому +5

      Kendy A I don't know if she did this, but I know another animatic of this song also had the dialogue, so she may have gotten it from there. There was even some more than what was in this video.

    When I saw this part in theaters (the Spanish version, guess where I'm from) I couldn't help but think that shit, we all are humans. We all have red blood running in our veins, we all had a first laugh and a first tear, we all have our own demons, as different as they can be, tormenting each one of us. The pride of ones makes de shame of others, and the vision of right and wrong may vary from the person at your side to the person opposite in the room. But still, we hope for a tomorrow, we regret yesterday, we have fears and doubts, and talents and insecurities. We are the same in different ways, and that is something to celebrate. Man, even though I am depressed, sometimes I really thank the world I live in for just existing.
    If you read this far, thanks ;)

    I love this so much! The way Ramin Karimloo sing's "Anya!" and when Christy sings "In me you see them, look at their faces in mine! Hear their screams, imagine their terror, hear their blood!" God! I love it! Wish I could fly to American just to see this musical! This is one of my favourite songs along with "In A Crowd of Thousands"! Post more!! The animation is beautiful and basically matches what I imagined! Honest goosebumps!

    Wow.
    This was amazing. The actions, expressions, facial expressions everything. I especially loved the mirror scene with gleb that was pretty powerful. And so was his reflection mimicking him along with Anastasias too. With the music that mirror scene is so powerful its a moment you want to capture. MMMMM "goodshit". Anyway, I can tell you were really passionate about this and it truly shows in your work. Figured you deserved some praise and a compliment. 👍
    P.S. Thx for making this.

    The amount of emotion you’ve portrayed in this is astounding. I’ve watched it three times in a row and each time I’ve forgotten to breathe because I was so caught up in the moment. The use of the family is amazing and the way you’ve shown them switching places in terms of the ground they gain... it’s really just unbelievably well done. A million kudos!

    Absolutely captivating and heart-wrenching. Thank you for this! I haven't seen the musical - I've only been able to enjoy the soundtrack - so I had no idea how this scene played out and was resolved. I assumed Dimitri came to save the day, but I'm so glad Anya stood her ground to the point that it unnerved Gleb and he ended up surrendering to compassion.

    I can not even begin to tell you how much I actually *l o v e* this animatic. The attention to detail is incredible, the way they move and speak seems so effortless with the music, and oh my god the facial expressions are simply amazing! The way you use the surroundings like the mirror to convey inner struggles and confidence of the characters is amazing, and even when we can’t see the faces of the characters their body alone conveys so much emotion it’s magical! This is by far my favorite animatic if the Anastasia soundtrack and you deserve way more recognition for this incredible animatic!

      Yes. They took out Rasputin and all the supernatural stuff, and gave the Bolsheviks a greater role.
      Gleb is the main antagonist. He's disturbingly proud of his late father who was one of the soldiers who massacred the Romanov family.
