Always eat where the locals eat, guys! Back in 2016, I had a bike accident in Pai and ended up in the hospital. As you mentioned, the condition of the Pai hospital wasn’t the best, but it was a public and free hospital, so that was exactly what I expected.

Hi both Sorry about your illness. Talking scooters! this year I toured down to southern Italy, 3000 miles with a friend via the Alps including the Stelvio and Gavia passes, on a Honda Forza 350. Cruised all day at 70mph, easy to manoeuvre, really comfortable, easy to get on and off with massive under seat storage. Thoroughly recommend you take a look at these when you get back to the UK. By the way I have just purchased a Royal Enfield Super Meteor 650 in Celestial blue and love it. I no longer have the Forza but tour on a Honda NC750 DCT auto which does the job perfectly. Flipping eck you two was not expecting that intro, hope you're feeling better by now, I had similar in Minorca where I couldn't stop vomiting etc was grim, rest up and take care x
What you need is a Honda Forza 350! Big wheels, big under seat storage, 90mpg, 80mph cruise speed if necessary. A veritable Bangkok limousine! I own one as my second bike. My primary is the Honda CL500, but I’m a senior citizen these days! Lots of love to you both, and glad you are getting better. ❤
Enjoy the vids despite not being a biker. Glad you are feeling a bit better. Been visiting Thailand for around 20 years and living here for the past 3 years and have only had a stomach problem on 1 occasion so I think you have been unlucky. I've had more stomach problems related to food in the UK. Food poisoning is more prevalent where you have tourists etc and Pae is a perfect example. Could also have been norovirus which is more in line with there being a public health warning and there has been a recent outbreak in Phuket. From personal experience, visitors to Thailand seem to be generally less hygienic than people who live in Thailand. Also, street food is in the main, more hygienic than some restaurant food - think about it, you can at least see the food being cooked on the street! Anyway, looking forward to watching the next vid.
By the way, I didn't mean that you 2 were unhygienic, moreso seeing foreigners (not Thais) leaving toilets having not washed their hands. This is the easiest way to pass on loads of bad things to others without any effort😮😊
I had a similar experience in Turkey this year. We thought I was dehydrated etc so I kept drinking water and I slowly got worse and worse and guess what ? It was the bottled water that was making me severely ill. Luckily I have a lot of Turkish friends and they got the doctor out for me. You both looked a bit pasty on the video. Take care of each other and I hope you’re soon back to your jolly selves. 👍
Sorry to hear about the food poisoning. Been there, done that. If nothing else it cleans you out good and proper. Best remedy I've found are charcoal tablets from any local pharmacy. Also, you'll now have started to build up a good immunity to any future tummy upsets. Pi Hospital is a community hospital covering a huge area and it sounds as though they had a bit of a battle going on. The volunteer rescue crews are an amazing feature of the emergency services in Thailand and do a fantastic service for one and all. Ad for the sofa bouled egg from the 7/11, they are quite popular, there is available at local stalls in the sticks the other extreme where the egg is days from hatching and you have a fully form chick in your egg shell. Again, another local delicacy but an acquired taste and not for the faint hearted. Hope you guys are coning over into Isaan on this tour, where the food is even more interesting and exotic. Thais tend to look down on this region as being poor and unsophisticated but that couldn't be further from rhe truth. Those who live in Isaan called it the real Thailand.
In the first few seconds of this episode i though ‘what is he looking pale’ and there came the story of you guys were sick. Thank god your doing fine now Keep safe loveyoubye
Cheers ties, yes it’s been a rough few days I can tell you! Thank god for the Thai hospital and there magical drips and meds, i was really in trouble there! Can’t wait to get back to the Netherlands and eat all those lovely cheeses and meats!
Travel insurance is a must. And what many tourists in Thailand take way too lightly, a motorcycle license when riding a scooter! Without a motorcycle license even the travel insurance will NOT pay anything in case of an accident!
Hi That egg no way . In the bin lol. Sorry to hear that you both haven't been well . Great to see you back on your feet again . Keep these streams coming great stuff. Ride safe and take care 👍👍👍. What have you got planned for Christmas ???? Love from Ireland ❤
This is why you make sure your hotel bathroom has the toilet next to the sink. Saves having to move... essential. Feel for you and glad to see mending well. I guess this is the other side of travel but it is what it is. Completely agree about travel insurance. Onwards. Ride safe 👍
@@BibTheBoulderTheOriginalOne Nice, I've had a lot of bikes over the years... My favorites are Honda CBX550FII (1984), Honda CBR900RR (1992) and my current bike the Honda NC700X (2012).. I did have a BMW, a Jawa 250 (1969) and several Yamaha's... Yet all my favorite bikes are Honda's.. I do have a weak spot for the Jawa, because that was my first bike ever... But it was utter thrash.. If you actually had to brake you'd be praying for the drum brakes to please please please do work this time please... I mean it's braking distance wasn't bad if it had been a 40 ton truck.. with drum brakes...
Love watching your videos on TV. But after watching the Thailand vlog it now keeps playing in another language Spanish Italian German,, it's driving me made I have tried to change with not effect😭😭. I watched other channels and all in English. I then tried your irland trip 2023 and that's stays on English!!!. I hope to sort out really need to catch up 🤞
Can’t say I am surprised to be honest . This is why it’s wise to get decent travel insurance , that also covers an air ambulance ,in case you need to be transferred back to the U.K. . Glad you are both OK , take care 👍
Honda Wave 125 has a massive 17 liters storage chamber even bigger than most automatic scooters. Honda Wave is derived from the legendary Super Cub with 17 inch wheel. It is not a scooter (belt driven) but a proper motorcycle as it has chain drive and semi-automatic clutch lubricated by engine oil. You can change gear by pressing forward/backward on your left side, no need to press hand clutch as there is none.
@@ontheroadadventure Not exactly cheap by Thai standard about 55,000 baht or $1700, but cheap by British/American standard. It is very economical if not ridden hard, can get upto 70 km/liter. Even riding full gas, it can easily achieve 50 km/liter. Compared to automatic scooter, it is about 20% more economical.
Onsen egg is a slow cooked soft boiled egg ( supposed to be cooked in a hot spring....Ewa did the right thing and put it in broth to eat....then a sprinkling of soy and dried seaweed for seasoning😸👍
Pleased to see you’re both okay after what sounds like horrible symptoms! As for travel insurance I rely on Nationwide Building Society cover. Costs me £13 per month for excellent worldwide cover, though additional cost is incurred if you are away for more than 31 days. It also includes UK and European breakdown cover, though this isn’t much use in Thailand of course.
I have the same Nationwide Flex Plus insurance package, just gone up to £18 a month, but still very good value as definitely covers full sized motorcycles and has no age limit, which when you've a few miles on the clock like me(78), is really important👍🏻
Yes I saw it was going up but I still seem to be paying at old rate. I do pay an extra £65 per year for being over 70 but that’s for the travel insurance, not breakdown cover.
@@geofftoscano6804The increase is from Dec 1, so I suppose it depends on what date they take your payment on. Certainly a good deal. I have to pay an annual one off payment for a medical condition, but still a much better deal than elsewhere.
My 90 yr old dad had a 125 scooter after a lifetime of loads of bigger bikes. I had a ride, didn't like the twitchy little wheels but so nice to stow my helmet under the seat when I parked up in town.
Yes go try the Honda 750 X ADV awesome piece of kit also DCT and does every thing you want and more guys but they are not cheap. I loved the test ride I did and if I had a second bike it would be a stable mate with my Harley Road Glide for sure as the X ADV is great all rounder bike 👍
Sounds like a really bad experience Rich, good that you were able get taken care of. Hope you’re ok Ewa, I assume you ate that uncooked egg in your broth ! Take it easy both and maybe just eat 7/11 food for a while ?
Oh dear, so sorry to hear this, I guess it’s the risk you take when travelling abroad, food poisoning I can imagine is common in Thailand just as it is in many countries inc ours! Wrong place at wrong time? Anyways glad you two are recovering ❤️🩹 take care of each other, looking forward to the next journey together 😊
FYI, Thailand's provincial government hospital has a good reputation of proper treatment and the cost is dirt cheap about 1/10 of Europe equivalent treatment but the queue is quite long except in emergency case such as accident, heart attack and food poisoning. Free emergency ambulance service is available countrywide dial 1669, but you should ask the local to speak in Thai. If you have some money, you can choose a private hospital which provides world-class service at half or quarter of the cost in Europe or USA. BTW, if in doubt buy food at 7-11. The hygiene standard is world class, never a single case of reported food poisoning over 20 years!
Good to see you're both feeling better. Take it easy for a few days, drink plenty of fluids (even if it's the leaky Harley stuff 😂 ) and make sure you're 100%
Oh I'm so happy to see you both are okay, you scared us all I guess. Ewa I was screaming at my phone screen to please not touch or eat that egg 😂 you are right Rich it said salmonella all over brrrr. See you healthy and well on the next one 🤗
There’s a vlog on here showing a 500t max chasing a honda blackbird cb1100r through some mountains and unbelievably the t max kept up. Windey road so not high speeds but impressive having ridden a blackbird in the day and the fastest bike I’ve ever ridden
Sorry to hear that Rich nothing worse than food poisoning good to see your feeling better. Also If you can try to only consume the ice that has a hole in it looks like a little sausage with a hole going through the middle. The bad ice should only give you the runs though not the food poisoning 😒. Watch the downhill hairpins on this next section back to Chang Mai (mostly the second half) hard on the brakes on those little buggers.👍
Sorry to hear Rich. Thank you for sharing. I have had food poisoning a couple of times in Thailand. The first time back in 2008 I was sure I was going to die. The other times I had more experience 😂😂😂 Ti be honest, food poisoning is horrible I feel with you.
A 125 with big wheels and more storage....nope....thats a top box job, or get a Beverly and have panniers (and a top box)🏍️💨💨😸 TMAX 530 (belt) or go big Honda, Forza or Integra but theyre chain drive....that shouldnt bother you two as your ATs are chain drive as well
Thank God you're okay now and there's something good you have to know is now you have food poison immunity already nothing can beat your stomach anymore, so then that's the best way to have had the traveling insurance before go abroad for safety, let's go enjoy your trip 😀😀😀
Glad you're both OK. Yes, insurance is highly recommended. NOTE: most travel insurance will not cover you to ride rental scooters. Do make sure you check with your insurance. Slight off, bit of road rash and you're f**ked! Vespa GTS250 has 12" wheels and under seat storage :)

Flipping eck you two was not expecting that intro, hope you're feeling better by now, I had similar in Minorca where I couldn't stop vomiting etc was grim, rest up and take care x
Horrible when it happens on a trip, you just have to get through it and move on
What you need is a Honda Forza 350! Big wheels, big under seat storage, 90mpg, 80mph cruise speed if necessary. A veritable Bangkok limousine! I own one as my second bike. My primary is the Honda CL500, but I’m a senior citizen these days! Lots of love to you both, and glad you are getting better. ❤
I’d be curious to see one, never given scooters a second look
All the best to you and may good luck and health stick to you.
Thank you! ☺️
Good to see your up and about Rich lad Ewa will keep you right. Take it easy .
Yeah she’s a good girl and looks after me well
Enjoy the vids despite not being a biker.
Yeah it’s just a numbers game, when you travel as much as us it’s inevitable to get ill somewhere at some point. I was looked after well here 👍
By the way, I didn't mean that you 2 were unhygienic, moreso seeing foreigners (not Thais) leaving toilets having not washed their hands. This is the easiest way to pass on loads of bad things to others without any effort😮😊
No yeah your Spot on, we see this all the time. We both do what we can to avoid this, we use hand sanitiser allot when we travel for this reason
Hi guys love your channel just a note please check the oil on your scooters so they don’t get sick all the best from Australia 😊
Thanks yes we will get them serviced soon 👍
They only take less than a litre so need to check, not much margin for error.
Thanks you were right, when we did service them they were well in need. Wasnt very much to do either
Water could well have been the culprit here or norovirus, so many people in Pai were ill
Thanks so much, we hope to cover as much as Thailand as we can 👌
In the first few seconds of this episode i though ‘what is he looking pale’ and there came the story of you guys were sick. Thank god your doing fine now
Keep safe loveyoubye
Cheers ties, yes it’s been a rough few days I can tell you! Thank god for the Thai hospital and there magical drips and meds, i was really in trouble there! Can’t wait to get back to the Netherlands and eat all those lovely cheeses and meats!
Travel insurance is a must.
And what many tourists in Thailand take way too lightly, a motorcycle license when riding a scooter!
Without a motorcycle license even the travel insurance will NOT pay anything in case of an accident!
This is also true for wearing a helmet, no helmet, no insurance 👍
Sorry you've booth been poorly. keep well take care ❤
Thanks bud
Glad to see you're on the mend 👍
Thanks 👍
Hi That egg no way . In the bin lol. Sorry to hear that you both haven't been well . Great to see you back on your feet again . Keep these streams coming great stuff. Ride safe and take care 👍👍👍. What have you got planned for Christmas ???? Love from Ireland ❤
Thanks bud, no idea about Xmas yet, we will have to see how time works out here
This is why you make sure your hotel bathroom has the toilet next to the sink. Saves having to move... essential.
Feel for you and glad to see mending well.
I guess this is the other side of travel but it is what it is.
Completely agree about travel insurance.
Onwards.
Ride safe 👍
You’re not wrong mate! I made full use of both 😂😂
Your so brave
Rough few days!
Get well soon!
I have a NC700X but the NC's are available with a normal gearbox as well.. I have one. NC's aren't all DCT's
There is a scooter version called a Forza. Looks like an NC from the front
I have a manual NC750X. Most competent machine I have ever owned.
@ same here. 2019. Only complaint is changing the air filter is a chore. UA-cam helped me there though
@@BibTheBoulderTheOriginalOne as for me. Only i have the DCT. fabulous machine .
So happy u r 👌 stay safe & 👀 at ur food ❤❤❤
Thank you, I will
Love watching your videos on TV. But after watching the Thailand vlog it now keeps playing in another language Spanish Italian German,, it's driving me made I have tried to change with not effect😭😭. I watched other channels and all in English. I then tried your irland trip 2023 and that's stays on English!!!. I hope to sort out really need to catch up 🤞
Oh dear! I don’t know why that would be, it must be a setting at your end as no one else has mentioned the problem yet
Can't believe you're getting me to like scooters. I'm glad you're all well. Stay safe. Ps check the oil.
Haha only here! We be back to our real bikes soon!
Can’t say I am surprised to be honest . This is why it’s wise to get decent travel insurance , that also covers an air ambulance ,in case you need to be transferred back to the U.K. . Glad you are both OK , take care 👍
Yes spot on
Honda Wave 125 has a massive 17 liters storage chamber even bigger than most automatic scooters.
They are really popular here and cheap also I believe
@@ontheroadadventure Not exactly cheap by Thai standard about 55,000 baht or $1700, but cheap by British/American standard. It is very economical if not ridden hard, can get upto 70 km/liter. Even riding full gas, it can easily achieve 50 km/liter. Compared to automatic scooter, it is about 20% more economical.
Amazing machines for their purpose
Onsen egg is a slow cooked soft boiled egg ( supposed to be cooked in a hot spring....Ewa did the right thing and put it in broth to eat....then a sprinkling of soy and dried seaweed for seasoning😸👍
She loves to try something new!
That’s a good deal 👍
We will look into this
Have a speedy recovery!! Must have been a horrible experience 🤔 don’t think I’d of chanced that egg after going through all that 😂😂
Ewa loves a gamble!
May have only been a short video...and we are sorry you've been ill but the puns and the jokes still made us giggle....Love You ..Bye x
Haha awesome, it has to be bad to stop us laughing our way through the day
My 90 yr old dad had a 125 scooter after a lifetime of loads of bigger bikes. I had a ride, didn't like the twitchy little wheels but so nice to stow my helmet under the seat when I parked up in town.
Yeah big wheels are key to them or they are wobbly
Just checking. Suzuki Bergman 200 .400. and 650. Look good too.i think ride mag rode one from Scotland down England. To the south of England.
Interesting to look at but I don’t think we would swap our bikes for scoots
Yes go try the Honda 750 X ADV awesome piece of kit also DCT and does every thing you want and more guys but they are not cheap. I loved the test ride I did and if I had a second bike it would be a stable mate with my Harley Road Glide for sure as the X ADV is great all rounder bike 👍
A scooter can’t replace a proper motorcycle though!
Sounds like a really bad experience Rich, good that you were able get taken care of. Hope you’re ok Ewa, I assume you ate that uncooked egg in your broth ! Take it easy both and maybe just eat 7/11 food for a while ?
Yep back to cheese toastie diet 😂
Oh dear, so sorry to hear this, I guess it’s the risk you take when travelling abroad, food poisoning I can imagine is common in Thailand just as it is in many countries inc ours! Wrong place at wrong time? Anyways glad you two are recovering ❤️🩹 take care of each other, looking forward to the next journey together 😊
So many people were ill in Pai at the same time they put out a public health warning to notify local businesses there’s a problem
Sorry to hear that, was it food poisoning or a bad virus in the area.
Not sure but many were ill
Yes we have to agree with all you said, and I can’t knock the care from the staff at the hospital and yes it wasn’t even expensive. Excellent 👌
Good to see you're both feeling better. Take it easy for a few days, drink plenty of fluids (even if it's the leaky Harley stuff 😂 ) and make sure you're 100%
That's the plan! And eat ever more cautiously
Get well soon, both of you. 😢
Thank you ☺️
Oh I'm so happy to see you both are okay, you scared us all I guess.
Ewa I was screaming at my phone screen to please not touch or eat that egg 😂 you are right Rich it said salmonella all over brrrr.
See you healthy and well on the next one 🤗
Ewa has a stomach made of iron 😂
Neevesy always talks about how much fun he has on his Tmax and he gets to ride the cream of the crop....glad you are both feeling better.
Not heard of him, will look him up
@@ontheroadadventure😮
Bad luck but glad you two are okay, shit happens. Stay safe ✌️
All part of travelling isn’t it
I was going to say stick to 7-eleven, but after seeing the state on that egg... I feel your pain, I had the Thai belly when I was there once.
Yeah the food can be a real gamble at times but food poisoning can happen anywhere
Food poisoning is the worst feeling ever I feel for u both.
Been there and it’s bloody awful 😢
Drink loads and flush everything out guys ❤
Thanks, it’s been a rough few days!
@ I can believe it mate.
It’s literally draining.
Takes a while to recover from it.
Hope u both feel loads better soon 👍
Thanks bud, we are back on the road again now
@ awesome.
Ur trips amazing but ur right the food is a lottery mate.
Glad ur both feeling better 😊👍
Cheers
Try looking at the Yamaha T Max 560 back in the UK if you get them there.❤😊
I'll check it out! But it won’t replace our twins!
There’s a vlog on here showing a 500t max chasing a honda blackbird cb1100r through some mountains and unbelievably the t max kept up. Windey road so not high speeds but impressive having ridden a blackbird in the day and the fastest bike I’ve ever ridden
I can believe that... Very nimble machines
Nic eto see you guys are still smiling through your D&S trauma, that's no joke.🙏
What else can you do 🤷♂️☺️
Sorry to hear that Rich nothing worse than food poisoning good to see your feeling better.
Cheers Neil, it’s been rough! So much for a few days rest in Pai!
Feel for you buddy only had food poisoning once in my life thought I was going to die F-ing terrible.
Yeah not a fun experience! Everyone has to have their turn!
Take some time too recover and keep on moving
It’s been a rough time I can tell you! Will be back on the road asap 😊
Sorry to hear Rich. Thank you for sharing. I have had food poisoning a couple of times in Thailand. The first time back in 2008 I was sure I was going to die. The other times I had more experience 😂😂😂
Ti be honest, food poisoning is horrible I feel with you.
It’s been a rough time I can tell you!
A 125 with big wheels and more storage....nope....thats a top box job, or get a Beverly and have panniers (and a top box)🏍️💨💨😸 TMAX 530 (belt) or go big Honda, Forza or Integra but theyre chain drive....that shouldnt bother you two as your ATs are chain drive as well
I can’t see us switching to scooters any time soon!
Thank God you're okay now and there's something good you have to know is now you have food poison immunity already nothing can beat your stomach anymore, so then that's the best way to have had the traveling insurance before go abroad for safety, let's go enjoy your trip 😀😀😀
It’s been a rough time I can tell you!
🤣🤣🤣…funny. On a serious note though, very glad you both are well. Sick abroad no fun
Cheers, seems I was right to be cautious of the food here!! It was always going to happen but we had no idea how severe it could get
Jeez what a nightmare for you both. Rich looked zonked. Silver lining is the weight loss! 🥴🥴P.s what’s a community bike (when you were 14?)
A tough few days but being back on the bike makes everything better always’
Glad you're both OK. Yes, insurance is highly recommended. NOTE: most travel insurance will not cover you to ride rental scooters. Do make sure you check with your insurance. Slight off, bit of road rash and you're f**ked! Vespa GTS250 has 12" wheels and under seat storage :)
Yes this is something you have to look out for. Voyager Specifically include cover for motorcycle travel and touring, as long as you have a licence for the bike and are wearing a helmet
@ontheroadadventure in the past, mine has covered me for using my own bike but not a hire bike. I needed to buy an additional policy. 😃
Yeah we checked on this, it took us a good few companies before we found one to suit us
Honda adv 750x . Awesome bike. A must try
I’d like to try one but I wouldn’t swap our motorcycles for a scooter
You will be seriously surprised. Get to a certain age and then you know it makes sense. @ontheroadadventure
We will save it for later then,..
Sorry for not feeling good and hospital visit and then ewa feeling sick glad you both got better. No more food and yes to 7-11
7-11 for the win! And diabetes 😂
That's a bad dose. Very nice hotel owner though.
Could be the water there?
Hope you two feel better now.
No idea but loads of people got ill in Pai
Hey guys look up when the Chinese new year is, I think that's why decorations I think. 👋🤠👍
29th jan 2025,.
They are for the Pai walking street
Cheers
Rich & Ewa. So glad to hear you’re both “on the road to recovery”! Hey….perhaps a UA-cam channel name change is appropriate! There’s nowt worse than being away from home and coming down with food poisoningI🤢. That said, sounds like you had the trolley in the corridor so not so different to the NHS after all! Can’t believe Ewa dropped that soft boiled egg into her soup! Does that woman have a cast iron stomach or what…..!?!?
Bon appetite…….!
❤❤
Yep, Ewa will eat almost anything and also she is very rarely ill
So sad to hear that you have been so sick.🤢🤮😢
And you, especially Rich was already so careful. I was a bit shocked though! I almost lost my 70 year old mother on that in Indonesia.
Fortunately, you had a beautiful aparthotel, with very sweet owners who took very good care of you. Can't rent something where you can cook for yourself?
We don’t have the time to cook and go shopping, clean etc on a tour like this, it would be a good idea though if staying in one place for a while at a time
