    Risque?? Where's your head at?? It's a simple love song with beautiful allusions to beautiful things. If I could have written just one song in my life I would have painted the colors of this.

    This would be circa--1968. Incredible String Band had a big following in Melbourne around 1970 [The ELTHAM Super Shows - in the bush] and around Belgrave and Hurstbridge on the very outskirts of Melbourne. Colourful clothes, capes and hippie dress and ISB were the vanguard minstrels. We all listened to them at the music library at Melbourne University and then we would hitchhike off either to the CROSS [Kings]

    This is from the Julie Felix show around 1970.
    She was the British Joan Baez/Judy Collins.
    I saw it then and never I would ever get to see it again someday! Quite eerie!

    all that discucions, boys, in argentina we have the chance of only 2 LP´s of ISB, but that mead as fly far away, still, today, when we are over 50. Just somoke on and enjoy de beauty

    Obviously artistically great. A folkie element, a hippie element, musicians with great inspiration and influence - even to the Rolling Stones. Given underground FM radio in that time period, I'm surprised that they were not more well known and successful.

    Julie Felix - ISB were guesting on her show, I think. C'mon, where's your history of Hippy music at?! She's still performing today and looking good for someone older than me! (60+)

  • @UnitedNewThinkers
    @UnitedNewThinkers 13 років тому +2

    @EtherialMoon the second part of my argument is that this "bad" music is so prominent nowadays that people lose a sense of what quality is, and so good music becomes quite difficult to find. in the 60s everybody liked the beatles and jefferson airplane, it was both popular and authentic, but the same cannot be said for popular music today. I find you need to dig deep to find music that will really satisfy you today.

    neohip and markswales, thanx for your interest in what i said. I agree with you that there is much good music today, I was mainly commenting on the american idiot commecial crap, but i am still really happy that even courtney love is comming out with hard rocking shit again. Maybe I have just been justin biebered to death, dammit! So then I put on Be Good Tanyas doing Townes song about sitting there just waiting to die, and hell, thatt cheers me up--- it does seem that there is hope!

  • @fubar50cat
    @fubar50cat 13 років тому +1

    Hi again monsqeeky, thanx for sticking up for me, sort of a silly arguement, really, of cousre the music theen beats the music today, no one had Autotune then, and there was no hip-hop, so even the Jefferson Airplane were as they still sound, ---real. Lots of great musicians today, I mean Trent Resnor just won an oscar, yeehaw, I just happen to like some of the old ones. But really, give a listen to PJ Harvey's new album, great freakin stuff

  • @fubar50cat
    @fubar50cat 13 років тому +1

    hi monsqueeky, did I go to woodstock? I actually set out to do so, but the lady friend I was with became ill, so we had to return to Toronto. The couple we set out with went, though, and said yeh, it was fun, but it was always raining and they never got close to the stage. We all watched the movie, and figured it was probably better. I used to love festivals, though, went to a lot of them, even saw Zappa and the Dead. Lots of weed, too.

    or to a supershow and sometimes seminal rock festivals. Ourimbah; Walhala and the first Sunbury before the 'living end' types showed for the second. See my video THE SINGING JOURNALIST and spot the influence or not. I caught up with Mike Heron in 1975 with the MIKE HERON BAND [Rock] at a pub. in Camden Town -- we passed as he went for a break and I did feel an accomplishent of sorts [better than the phony TOM WAITS

    As an open minded, experienced musician I am trying very hard to like this song after a friend recommended. I give up dear friend. Some of the guitar playing is okay but the melody is truly awful & oversimplistic. ISB fans, tell me why this song works for you. Does it remind you of something or is it the song itself you find so attractive?

  • @ErnieLlime
    @ErnieLlime 14 років тому

    @enthusedbythisstuff Robin Williamson has recorded many more albums after ISB broke up (1974 or so) the last of which came out in 2008 and is still performing. Mike Heron (the other pillar of ISB) is also alive and well and still performing.

    I'm a fellow veteran of the punk wars, I love ISB, and I don't see a contradiction. I think punk is being true to yourself regardless of what TV and peer pressure and religion and everything else say you are supposed to be... even when they state their case quite (*ahem*) forcefully. In those terms, ISB was punk. (So were the Kinks.) You don't walk down the street in a velvet cape, knowing you're about to get your ass handed to you, if it's not vitally important to you that you be yourself.
