    This was the most realistic down to earth feedback for cyber pros., I've been a CISSP for a quite a while and after you break that initial 100k barrier, it's not even about the cert anymore. It's about the value and perception you bring with that years of xp.

    When you have 10+ years you dont need the certs. If you dont and your looking for a new gig in this economy, might want the certs.

    • @NicolasMoy
      @NicolasMoy  8 місяців тому +14

      Certs can help you get an interview. They don’t help you land the job… The value you bring to the company is what lands you the job.

      @@NicolasMoy Agreed, I've been in security for over 5 years as a admin, analyst, and consultant for the last two years on the risk and compliance side. Your giving good information and it will help people but from my perspective the last 4 years has been an economic roller coaster. In the last 2 years there have been many layoffs, RTO mandates, and changes in the ranks within the fortune 500. I think if you have 10+ years of experience as a candidate hiring managers probably do not need to see the certs but to validate the awareness and add a bit more credability to the cv without knowing a hiring manager in the current economy the certs will help. I was looking at a video you released a few years ago about your security engineer position partnering with cloud architects. Thats the direction I'm working my way towards, good to cross paths with your content.

      I spent 12+ years working in security without any certs. This year, thought what the heck. Might as well get some displayed in my LinkedIn and resume. I’m not really looking for a new job, but it’s good for recruiter filtering process for future.

    Thanks so much for sharing. You and I think the same on this. You have to lay out what you are trying to do first and not just run after certs. I work as a network admin but I was already doing the job before I got my first cert. Been a while but I really want to work remotely in a cloud or cybersecurity role. SOC analyst rolles seem to be increasing but im more focused on learning some practical skills first and maybe a badge or something like that to ad to LinkedIn. Looking forward to checking out more of your videos.

    Hey Nicholas, can you make a video on becoming a cybersecurity engineer from absolute scratch? I have a bachelor's degree in computer applications and am looking forward to pursuing cybersecurity as my future career. I've heard people commend they have got their Security+ and all but I don't actually know what that is. I mean, a video that explains everything to become a cybersecurity engineer would be a big help.

    I guess this applies to anything not DoD related. Because HR want a sacrificial lamb and the certs are the sacrifice. You need the certs to meet IAT level qualification . You want a job? Get the certs to pass 8750 baseline:

    • @NicolasMoy
      @NicolasMoy  8 місяців тому +1

      DoD 8570 has been superseded by DoD 8140 which takes a much heavier emphasis on performance and ability to demonstrate skills. It's a lot more nuanced than simply passing an exam. The industry is shifting.

    this is definitely the most genuine answer for anyone trying to find the best cert...The best cert would be the one which aligns with your specialized node of cyber security or any other domain. The first thing should be to ask yourself that am i really willing to do this cert??? or iam just being manipulated by social engineering.
