Good comprehensive review. I think the ideal plan will be for someone to take the Google Cert, get a good solid understanding then take your course for projects and tieing it all together (Theory and Practical) and then Comptia just for the gates of HR if all else fails.
@@mahmoudalsoni6891 Absolutely. I'd say Google first mainly because of affordability to just get good overall understanding. Josh would be excellent for more Practical skills. CompTIA unfortunately really only seems to get the Door open to even get an interview. The rest is Experience / Practical Skills / and how good you are with people in general. Without having the CompTIA certs you really have to know how to bypass the Auto Rejection Filter that HR has in place. HR is ridiculous and a piss poor when it comes to what they determine as good candidates.
Just looking at the theory vs. employability diagram in the beginning it seems that you would get the most “overlap” in skills if you did the google cybersecurity and your cybersecurity course. This was my plan from the beginning as I really believe in your courses and their effectiveness after having gone through the IT course. You will definitely generate interviews and Job leads with Josh’s courses if you follow the instructions and take time to learn how to confidently talk about what you learned. Thanks for all the help you provide us with!
If you're going to do that, you should still get the Sec+ exam out of the way as well. Hello Josh you changed my life! I've been working in Cybersecurity for 5 years and had quite a bit of imposter syndrome. I watched this video and decided to go for it, so I signed up for the Google cybersecurity program. I completed that program and as of yesterday I am also Security+ certified! Thank you for taking the time to make this video and inspiring me to bet on myself!
@@dion130The google course took me a little under 2 months, but I was locked in, and have experience things like vulnerability management and incident response, so some of it was more of a refresher. I scheduled my Security+ about 2 weeks after I finished the Google Cybersecurity Certification. I actually just took the ISC2 Certified in Cybersecurity exam and passed! We can all do it and make the cyber world a safer place 😎🔒
Josh bro! In all honesty, you must truly want us to get a worthy it position. These test you create is amazing for someone like me, that has the hardest of time reading through on my own due to adult adhd
I'm still studying for my A+ but I plan to take your course eventually. Got a BA in something completely unrelated to tech but I'm ready to finally dive deep into all this material. I appreciate all the content you deliver for us noobs :p
I have a free voucher for Security + and the knowledge to pass it, would like to take Josh’s course to start building that initial experience through the hands on labs before I even graduate my cybersecurity bachelors
I’m a beginner and I jumped on your course and learning a lot . I’m taking a lot of notes. I did go to school for software QA engineer and purchased a certified in cybersecurity course by Thor which is really good. I think I will go for the Google cert a little later.
Only thing I don’t agree with is the job hunt potential for Sec+. From personal experience talking to former classmates as well as current and former instructors you absolutely need Sec+ for any company that contracts for the government. Or for the government in general
Definitely think you bring a ton of value to the table with experience potential and portfolio help. Going to do Google, sit for sec+, and start applying - will purchase your course if no bites in a month. It will pay for itself if I can land a higher paying position. One question: I’ve been interviewing for “IT Specialist” roles because I come from a completely different career. Do you think it’s necessary to get into IT first before diving into an entry InfoSec role? I got A+ and it’s already helped me land interviews. My strategy is to try to get into IT at a large enterprise and then pivot into their security team once I build a reputation within the org. Thoughts?
nice content. I have my Sec+ but feel like all I have right now is theory. I like the sound of the labs you and google offer. Thank you for doing this!
I thoroughly enjoyed watching your video. You’ve got an engaging voice and this was well organized. As one minor critique…I think you forgot to finish setting up video chapters 😅 aside from that, excellent job!
Quite amazing. Like the in-depth practical hands on. I'm looking to pivot from an infrastructure product manager to Security engineer 🤞 this will be good for me
You have a nice voice. You sound like James Earl Jones! Thanks for this info! I just started watching your videos and the information you provide is so helpful. I always thought that Cyber security required expert coding skills as in ethical hacking. I have some Java and JavaScript experience, and did not feel comfortable entering the Cyber Security field. Your videos have are motivational.
Thank you for making this video. Out of all of the tech UA-camrs I value your opinion the most. You give exceptionally well-thought-out reviews. Please keep em coming.
Great video Josh, I’m currently finishing up my last year in college for CIS. Will definitely be taking the google cert and your program!! My goal is to land a job as a SOC analyst. Keep up the great content!
I have 2 courses left for the google cybersecurity cert then planning on taking the security + a month after that! I’m currently in a cybersecurity bootcamp as well. Just need a job in the field 😭 hope it pays off.
I completed the Google Data Analytics Course and am now already on the 6th course of the Google Cyber Security course. I realized that both are interconnected. I should be done with the Cybersecurity course maybe by the end of this week. I imagine the Python course will take a bit longer. I'm happy to learn that the CS course guides you with the portfolio and also has examples/answers of the activities so we can learn if we are stuck. The DA course didn't guide us with the case studies/portfolio which was unfortunate. Maybe they will update it since it is older than the CS course. I do have a few concerns: Will I be able to get a CS job with the certificate? There are a lot of jobs out there, I imagine it's possible. I do have to get my portfolio in shape. Btw, if you live in the State of California you can take these courses for free with your library card! The State is funding this! I learned about this while working at a library and browsing all the resources the library offers on their site. If you don't live in CA, check with your public library site before paying!!
Your presentation in this video is really very solid and has gone so far as to make me rethink my own certification path. Please take that statement as a high compliment.
Ive been lookin all over, did countless interviews with other schools and now stumbled across this video and this feels right. I already work as a data analyst but want to break into cybersecurity and IT , thank you for this
Thank you so much for this video! I’m almost done with Security+, so I’m probably gonna do Google first and then your course since it seems the most complete in terms of landing a job.
This was awesome thank you so much for this information! I'm so happy I started following your content it has been so helpful and insightful. I think that Googles cybersecurity plus your program is definitely the way to go to really solidify a job and have a successful career change (more for myself) if your going into the field with no experience. I am confined to teaching myself for now but it's really good to know where to turn to and what to trust when I can afford to do so.
I plan on taking the Google Cyber Security program after finishing this Google IT support professional certification, I feel as if hands on learning is the best approach so I’ll probably look into your course after the google security program. Much thanks.
Really really wish your course and Google's existed about a year or so ago and i was more proactive lol... That's when i took my security+. Not knocking it as I'm damn proud of it, but might have been better overall, time wise. Crossroads/career change is a scary time when you've been doing the same thing for twenty years. I appreciate all your insight, my man 🌴🌴😁😁
Thanks so much! I appreciate the comments! I know career changes can be scary, I haven’t done a full-on one but I’ve pivoted pretty hard a couple times, but if you strategize, prepare, and put a lot of effort, chances are very high that you’ll succeed 👍👍
Hi @Josh Madakor you have done a good analysis, having completed my labs with leveldcareers, I will surely visit Google Cyber Security. I am humbled for replying to my question.
I agree with all of it unless you split the employability and Job Hunt. If split the Employability goes to CompTIA because it's well known but job hunt goes to your course
From what I read online from other youtubers and ppl that did the Google cert and the Security+ was that the Google Cert was not going enough in depth on what it was trying to teach, but that It was always a plus if you are going for the Security+ cert, tho the two are nowhere near comparable, or so I've heard. Many ppl even saying to you were better off not doing it but going straight for the Cisco CCNA/Network+ and then Security+ right after.
I would be interested in hearing your thoughts after studying for Sec+, then going through the Google Cybersecurity Program. I've gotten Sec+ twice (had to renew it for DoD), and the difference was really clear to me. 🤯
I'm blown away by your transparency, awesome, thank you!!! Coursera offers a yearly subscription with access to a lot of content, not all, you need to check. The regular price is $400/year, the discounted price at the end of the year, and just for a few days, is $200 !!! This Coursera discount is not really advertised much, but it is a sweet deal :)
I took the google cybersecurity and I really enjoyed it. I’m currently taking cybersecurity classes in college and I much prefer the way Google has theirs laid out vs the college. One class is through TestOut and another through Cengage then another that’s though AWS Academy. I know it’s comparing apples to oranges but it would be nice if it would be lined up like Google.
(Security +ce) continuing education as highlight in the video linked with DoD. What is DoD? Don’t know if this comment qualifies for 1 of the five secret words but it’s highlighted. 😊
For those that don't know, you can take the whole google cybersecurity course for free, just sign up for financial aid, it will give you a promt on why you are applying. Click submit, now here's the important part, once you do that you'll see a text saying "audit course" click that and you get the whole course for free, if you click the back button before auidting the course, you'll loose the option to do so.
Considering most security jobs REQUIRE security+ and NONE require yours or googles, I think security+ should be way higher on your scale. It's literally DOD equivalent so how wouldn't you get employed?
Hey, thanks for the comment. No jobs outside of defense actually (legally) require Security+. A lot of them like to pretend they do by putting it on the req, but it's just administrative wishes. I will say, I would be interested in seeing the actual number of dod security jobs on the market vs private sector, but that number is so hard to find. There are literally thousands of people who have security+ who are complaining that they are unable to get jobs. This is because sec+ doesn't do anything for you but teach theory. Sec+ is good, but it's objectively worse than the Google cert at this point, when you look at what it's providing to the individual. The certs themselves are becoming more and more inconsequential. The important thing is what you get out of the program and how you execute on it. Not only does the Google program teach you more theory than Sec+, it gives you hands-on application and teaches you how to execute on what you've learned in order to actually start working. My course is the same, but the hands-on portion is more raw and the execution of theory is more focused. These are just my thoughts. Sec+ isn't bad, but CompTIA can do better and they know it. This is not really related to anything, but I think it's absurd that the defense has contracts with CompTIA and EC-Council and requires those certs for some jobs 🙄🙄
Just finished this Cert. Quick take: I WISH the Security+ exam was similar in approach. I'm nervous about paying a third of my paycheck for an exam but through this self paced course, I feel a little better. I'm stoked to see what opportunities can unravel from this. I hope other courses and certs try a similar approach to learning and labs.
If you are not already doing it, I'd suggest monetizing your discord channel. Why? To set up a monthly subscription model which is used to off set the cost of the constant updating you have to do for your course. Your model of using real world situations to teach Cyber Sec is a great way to approach the material and is a great way to address the core component missing from most training. Many employers argue "you only have book learning / theory but no real world application or experience"' when someone is newly certified, and they are right. Your approach bridges that gap, and THAT alone is worth the cost of a monthly sub of say $15/mo. That is the same cost as most video game subscriptions such as World of Warcraft, and makes for an easy argument at that price point.
Very good video bro! I think i will go Google Cert then Sec+ then i will certainly look at yours, I really like the sound of your program, the only thing that worries me is how long it will last before things get too expensive or if membership becomes stagnant and due to one-time payment, you wont have any more income coming in. Have you given this thought?
I wish you added the ISC2 certified in cybersecurity. However, what’s your take on the ISC2 certified in cyber? Your review was great though and you got a new subscriber.
@@JoshMadakor I agree. I'm still not sure if I'm going to take the exam but I'm still going through Mike Meyer's Sec+ guide at a pace of about 50 pages a day. @@JoshMadakorI agree I just passed the security + exam by studying with UA-cam videos ONLY. I told myself that I won’t spend money again to get it renewed after 3 years. So wasteful and non-practical. Unfortunately Comptia has tricked the government into thinking that this exam actually ensures employees understand cybersecurity work. It’s a money grad scam

Good comprehensive review. I think the ideal plan will be for someone to take the Google Cert, get a good solid understanding then take your course for projects and tieing it all together (Theory and Practical) and then Comptia just for the gates of HR if all else fails.
mean, the arrangement is as follows: Google, then Josh Course, then CompTIA?
@@mahmoudalsoni6891 yeah , I think that's a good order. Sorry for the late response.
@@PluPerfective no problem thanks
@@dennyklein1965 thanks
Just looking at the theory vs. employability diagram in the beginning it seems that you would get the most “overlap” in skills if you did the google cybersecurity and your cybersecurity course. This was my plan from the beginning as I really believe in your courses and their effectiveness after having gone through the IT course. You will definitely generate interviews and Job leads with Josh’s courses if you follow the instructions and take time to learn how to confidently talk about what you learned. Thanks for all the help you provide us with!
Thanks for vouching for me and the course, also thanks for joining it! I really appreciate it :)
If you're going to do that, you should still get the Sec+ exam out of the way as well. A+ and Net+ aren't as valuable as Sec+ is, because that credential actually stands out, and you never know, you might land a nice paying Government Job that has good benefits and retirement. They really want that Cert!

Thanks for the resources, Josh! 👋🏼 I’m on Cert 4 of the 8 Google cyber courses and learning a lot. Really hoping this can help me moving into a cybersecurity career. 🙏🏼
I’m in cybersecurity program for Devry how does that fair ?
If I don't have any knowledge of cyber security, I shouldn't take the courses?
I tried to enroll for the Google course but I was asked to pay.
Hello josh can you put the link of your discord server in the comment or discription thatnks
I have been waiting for this my man and I like the way you break it down thank you❤bro!
I already have done my Security+ but my next step will Google + Your course!
Thanks for watching and thanks! I appreciate it:)
I love the comparisons! If you really want an affordable option then Google’s is the way to go but def add your course to it if you want to get employed immediately. Great video! :)
Thanks as always MTG, appreciate seeing you in here
I completed Google's course. Do you think it's worth enough to get an entry level job with it?
@@ArunG273The thing I think most people try to communicate(often somewhat ineffectively) is that you have to remember many things in life are optics based. The cert is more than enough for help desk, the true test is how appealing your resume looks(sites/apps for this plus a few youtube vids) and how personable and appealing you are in your first impressions. Are you outgoing, are you reliable, even if you're introverted can you socialize sufficiently even with those you dislike, are you proactive, are you relatable. This is what matters first across any field. Everything else is for you to worry about after you get past HR(entirely optics based but adding more certs only helps)
Found your channel through another YT comment section. Good quality stuff. Cheers and keep it up!
Awesome! Very honored to hear that, thank you, and thanks for the comment :)
I recently just joined WGU , but I’ll definitely be enrolling in your course as well!! Thank you for everything Sensei Josh!!!
Haha sensei, I appreciate that :)
I just joined WGU Cybersecurity program too, I’ll check out this course as well thank you.
I also will be joining wgu in August, this is great to see others doing the same, do you all have a IT background already or fully new ?
This is one of the best and sincere genuine analysis on all these courses...I have been studying for security + for some time...I tell when I saw the video introduction of Josh's courses .. I was hooked.
.I was like " this is "...due to its hands on labs and resumes preparing help...thats because I had already learned a lot practical labs from Josh on UA-cam such as Nessus vulnerability scan, active directory etc...but my problem is I have been out of work for sometime now...I'm broke...I will definitely try to speed up with the Google one in shaa Allah
Awesome, glad I could deliver haha. Appreciate your comment, best of luck with the studies?
Hello Josh you changed my life! I've been working in Cybersecurity for 5 years and had quite a bit of imposter syndrome. I watched this video and decided to go for it, so I signed up for the Google cybersecurity program. I completed that program and as of yesterday I am also Security+ certified! Thank you for taking the time to make this video and inspiring me to bet on myself!
So glad to hear that!! Thanks for letting me know 🥺
how long did it take
@@dion130The google course took me a little under 2 months, but I was locked in, and have experience things like vulnerability management and incident response, so some of it was more of a refresher. I scheduled my Security+ about 2 weeks after I finished the Google Cybersecurity Certification. I actually just took the ISC2 Certified in Cybersecurity exam and passed! We can all do it and make the cyber world a safer place 😎🔒
Nice man! I’m a tech UA-camr, I’ve just moved into cloud security so this could be very helpful for me!
I enrolled in the Google Cybersecurity program two weeks ago and just purchased your course (while still on discount!) and can't wait to get started.
Thanks John! Best of luck with both, and feel free to hit me up on the discord once you start if you have any questions ETC :)
@@JoshMadakor thank you! will do.
Josh bro! In all honesty, you must truly want us to get a worthy it position. These test you create is amazing for someone like me, that has the hardest of time reading through on my own due to adult adhd
I’m glad you like the content! And thanks for taking the time to comment ^^
Making free anki decks is so nice of you. I'm getting a degree in IT. Thank you :)
Haha thanks for saying that :). Best of luck with the degree!
I'm still studying for my A+ but I plan to take your course eventually. Got a BA in something completely unrelated to tech but I'm ready to finally dive deep into all this material. I appreciate all the content you deliver for us noobs :p
Thank you
I have a free voucher for Security + and the knowledge to pass it, would like to take Josh’s course to start building that initial experience through the hands on labs before I even graduate my cybersecurity bachelors
It sounds like a really strong combination honestly
I’m a beginner and I jumped on your course and learning a lot . I’m taking a lot of notes. I did go to school for software QA engineer and purchased a certified in cybersecurity course by Thor which is really good. I think I will go for the Google cert a little later.
Only thing I don’t agree with is the job hunt potential for Sec+. From personal experience talking to former classmates as well as current and former instructors you absolutely need Sec+ for any company that contracts for the government. Or for the government in general
Yep, I covered that very specifically in the end (dod 8570 and 8140) 👍
Definitely think you bring a ton of value to the table with experience potential and portfolio help.
Np! And I know exactly what you mean. I felt the same way back when I got my sec+. I did like getting the cert though, hehe
I thoroughly enjoyed watching your video. You’ve got an engaging voice and this was well organized. As one minor critique…I think you forgot to finish setting up video chapters 😅 aside from that, excellent job!
Lol shoot I did, and thank you, I appreciate that
The Google program is good and my son, who has no experience at all finished it in 2 weeks. Cost him $50. I'm on pace to finish in 10 days.
Quite amazing. Like the in-depth practical hands on. I'm looking to pivot from an infrastructure product manager to Security engineer 🤞 this will be good for me
Appreciate the consideration!
Nice comparison! I’m wondering how the Blue Team Level One Cert compares as well 🤔
I need to go through that program honestly! I will do it at some point :P
I seriously appreciate that, thank you!
Great video Josh, I’m currently finishing up my last year in college for CIS. Will definitely be taking the google cert and your program!! My goal is to land a job as a SOC analyst. Keep up the great content!
Awesome! Gonna feel great to get that degree done. You're doing great things, and thanks for even considering my course!
I have 2 courses left for the google cybersecurity cert then planning on taking the security + a month after that! I’m currently in a cybersecurity bootcamp as well. Just need a job in the field 😭 hope it pays off.
Bro did you get any job ?
Great breakdown on all 3 courses. Thank you so much Josh!
Thank you! Thanks so much for watching!
Can provide more info on this? Are on IG would love to ask you some questions
I recommend watching this video: ua-cam.com/video/LweW1RypjD4/v-deo.html
Short answer is yes, but you have to do the right things.
This was so informative I'm looking to change career paths and will be looking into your course and google! Much appreciated
Thank you for watching :)
Fantastic overview! @Josh - thanks for breaking this down in a simple and comprehensive way. The visual really helped. This made me subscribe 🙂
wow, the assisting part on discord and using it as experience is pretty cool!
Thank you for the video Josh, You really helped in understanding what Google provides
I think all three will be beneficial for anyone trying to break into the field. Great non bias review
I’ve been waiting for this! Good stuff!!
Thank you!! Gonna try to put out a lot more quality stuff! Well? Higher quality than before anyway lol
Your presentation in this video is really very solid and has gone so far as to make me rethink my own certification path. Please take that statement as a high compliment.
I really appreciate that, it means a lot. Thanks for watching too 😭
Ive been lookin all over, did countless interviews with other schools and now stumbled across this video and this feels right. I already work as a data analyst but want to break into cybersecurity and IT , thank you for this
I went to Wgu as well.and now im a software engineer. Im back at wgu for my masters
I'm finishing up on my Bs is Network Security and Engineering
HI Josh long time no see, glad to see your channel is doing so well, and more so you are looking well! 💯
Thank you so much for this video! I’m almost done with Security+, so I’m probably gonna do Google first and then your course since it seems the most complete in terms of landing a job.
Thank you for helping me rediscover professor messor.
OMG, you went to Edmonds?! I just got 2 associates from Edmonds , in in security in forensics, and another in network admin. Crazy. How cool!
Appreciate your kind words! I will def try to keep improving the course over time T_T. Thanks for the comment!
Thanks for the hard work in your content, keep at it!! And congrats on hitting 100k subs!
Thanks! Yeah, I could dive into this a bit deeper, in fact I wanted to but it's already becoming a half-hour long video lmao
I appreciate you for this information Brother! I needed a solid outlook & you answered everything. Thank you for your expertise
So happy to hear that! Thanks for commenting and letting me know 👍

I was waiting for this! Thanks Josh.
I appreciate it!!
Josh your video really explained in detail. I would enroll in your course for hands on experience.thanks for the video
Thanks, I appreciate that!
I was already missing your videos Josh, great video as always. Are you planning to upload a video on wgu new CS degree curriculum?
Thank you! And I was thinking "I think I did....", but actually I did Software engineering, not CS yet. I gotta get on that eventually :)
Thanks for making this video I been waiting on it😁!
I have the security+ but now you have me interested in your course and Google’s.
Glad to hear it!
Very impressed with what I’ve seen in your videos and website just visited.
Thanks! I appreciate that :)
Josh's cyber course. Now i bet that carries some weight on a resume 😂

I’ll have to do your course once I finished with ITcertify or do you have any recommendation?
As I am from UK
Thank you. I appreciate your honesty.
I appreciate you appreciating my honesty, hahah. Thank you for the nice comment ^^
I’m nervous about that too, especially cuz it doesn’t seem to get you that much further ahead when you have that cert
@@C_itsNemo I kinda hope this cert gets approved by the DoD 8750 guidelines.
love your videos Josh!
Appreciate you, other Josh ^^
Thank you for the video. I’m doing Google cert right now
Awesome! And np ^^
I wish you added the ISC2 certified in cybersecurity. However, what’s your take on the ISC2 certified in cyber? Your review was great though and you got a new subscriber.
Hey, I really appreciate the sub! That cert is actually next on my list to review! I'll get to it eventually
I'm in the middle of a year long cybersecurity bootcamp that costs more than all of this combined and my teacher still recommends we get Security+.
Security+ in and of itself is good to have if you are fine with spending the money. It's not horrible, but it doesn't need to cost as much as it does.
@@JoshMadakor I agree. I'm still not sure if I'm going to take the exam but I'm still going through Mike Meyer's Sec+ guide at a pace of about 50 pages a day. After I'm proficient in the material, I'll move on to getting Blue team experience for my portfolio. If I still can't find a gig, I'll take the exam lol.
I'm an LVN and graduated from mitx pro last sept 2022. Im doing the course over again since its still available online, but i feel like a lot of it is theory based. During the course, i was lucky to have an interview with levis for soc analyst but unfortunately failed and was not chosen. I honestly feel like i dont know much but a small amount of theory. Honestly dont know where to go from here but to go over mitx program again.
Hi Josh, should I do the CourseCareers IT first before taking the Cybersecurity course? Thanks!
Hey! It kinda depends on where you are with tech and how much security you know.
If you are BRAND BRAND new to IT and stuff, def do the coursecareers one first. (joshmadakor.tech/it)
If you are kind of tech savvy and/or have around Security+ level knowledge, you can def be OK with the cyber course: (joshmadakor.tech/cyber)
I basically made the cyber course for people who have sec+, but are struggling to bridge the gap between that and actually finding a job. You can also apply to "normal" IT jobs having done the cyber course.
Hope this helps, and thanks for watching :)
Thank you for the video, I am thinking to do cyber security course and changing my field from Law to Cyber security, this video is really helpful in understanding all the different aspects. I'd definitely take your course after learning basics things from google course.
