Josh thank you for the awesome video! I started my first IT job this year after three years working as a math teacher and it’s been such an amazing transition. Your videos helped so much especially in the job application process, you speaking about doing home labs and how to make yourself stand out helped land me in the role I’m in. I like your channel I've always worked in IT, but always for and employer. One thing that has always been a burden is not being able or allowed to help people on the side, even for free. I've missed out on a lot of chances to learn in the moment and to get to aspect of interacting with other people when solving problems. This year I've decided to start working for myself and want to get to know people in IT and not just the problem solving from a technical perspective, but also the how did you get here and how can we prevent this from happening again. I've recently been talking to small business owners and there is still a lot they don't know about IT.

I am looking to be a network admin/engineer, not so much cyber security. I am doing self study and I put that on my Resume but as of yet no one will even look at me for a basic help desk job...working on transitioning from a automotive technician role in a repair shop to being in IT.
What entry level roles? They don't exist. Been applying for 5 years. Got a ccna, security+, cysa+, third attempt OSCP, azure 900, azure 104, electrical engineering degree from top uni. No responses. Tried applying for SOC, infosec, netsec, pentesting entry level. Im going to cloud DevOps., and hack on the side. Im totally done with the BS. Its clear the cybersecurity industry doesn't know what it's doing, especially when a GRC role gets paid double a pentester.

I have finished the 7th module of the Google Cybersecurity Professional Cert and will move on to the 8th and last module but I am not too confident in my knowledge of what I learned in the course. I’ve done most of the things you’ve mentioned in the video and I’m about to interview with a fortune 500 company next week. I’m so glad I watched this video as supplement. It's great to see you back with new videos! I had my A+ certification beforehand and subsequently purchased your career course. Even though I landed a help desk job before taking the final exam (thanks in part to the course), everything you mentioned came to pass. In my interview, I discussed the labs we covered, and I even managed to negotiate my salary!
I'm contemplating diving into your cybersecurity course, but I'm considering first obtaining the CompTIA trifecta to ensure it's the path I want to take. This brings me to my question: Have you ever thought about offering certification courses, like Security+ or AZ-104, AZ-500? Sort of like Mosh does with his courses or Zero to Mastery.
Really love to hear it and see it! Congrats on the job, and I'm glad you were able to flex your portfolio and negotiate salary, haha. I haven't really thought about making full-blow COURSES for certification, but I do make free practice question decks with (usually) over 1k questions. In case you haven't seen them, here are some:

So I have no certs at all if I do Google cyber security cert can I at least land a helpdesk job, I'm unemployed and need income before I can pay for other certs.. or just buy CompTIA A plus to get my foot in the door.
@@Ib90Speaking as someone who has the CompTia trifecta, you would need a decent amount of time to pass A+ even with some prior experience. (I took around 30 days per exam with around 6-8 hrs per week studying)

Great video man , I’m currently learning networking basics, Linux, sql and python for dummies along with going through the security+ before taking the course just so I can have knowledge already and save money on the monthly fee then actually taking the security+ as well so I can get the discount since I’m not exactly rushing it and want to soak up the knowledge. I am currently in school for a bachelor’s of science-cybersecurity with a focus on cloud security and technology. I’ve had to do a LOT of this math so far and it is taxing. it does get a little easier as you do it and once you put it into the concept of coding, it makes more sense. Thank you for the breakdown of the degrees. I have been wondering if it is worth it or not seeing as it does take the full four years, not to mention that it is a struggle.
These are some of the best, unbiased tips I've ever heard. Great job, Josh! I'm recommending this video to everyone I know that wants to get into security.
While the Google course may be great as per your recommendation, I think the concern is the HR Gatekeeping that tends to require more "well known" certs such as Security+ as well as the fact that there is no proctored exams in the coursera courses.

I’m enrolled in the google cybersecurity course right now and it is really good for someone who didn’t know anything about IT or cybersecurity I wouldn’t say it’s good for the comptia security+ it’s more hands on and preparing you for what you would be doing on the job. I’m currently on the 7th section of the course there is only 8 so by next week I should be done and have my google cert. I started on august 10th with minimal breaks I had to take couple weeks off for work, but if really put time in should take Atleast 1-2 months max.
It is good for the Security+. Either you're rushing through the course, half-ass studying the material, or you're just full of shit.

Josh I just discovered you a couple weeks ago and your content has been crazy helpful. I totally agree with what you said in regards to resume building. Being able to take keywords from a job post and tailoring your resume to it is extremely helpful. I've completed the first part of Google CS cert and finishing up the rest.

Love your Azure lab and although I don't get some of what you're doing in there, the experience of running through it a couple times has improved my knowledge on the "why". Again thank you for the content!

I agree with this video. Although I haven't been able to land a job in IT or in cyber yet, the steps explained by Josh are definitely the steps I'm taking to break into cyber. I've been lazy about my resume in the past but after watching Josh's past videos on resume prep, interview prep, portfolio building, and other career-related videos, I know this is the path to take. Hopefully, we can all break into cyber together!😢
If you can't jump straight in cybersecurity, start with helpdesk then pivot after 1 year experience and have your Security+. Security+ is a huge checkmark atm.

If I can pass the coarse careers part for Information Technology with no certs how likely am I able to get a job within 2-3 months
I’m just transitioning from truck driving to IT
Hey! It kind of depends on the quality of your execution of the stuff in the course, as well as the execution of your job hunt, the type of jobs you're willing to work, and where you're willing to work geographically. If you live year a big city and go wild with your applying and don't care where you work, you can find likely find a job 1-2 months after finishing the course, but it just depends!
Just make sure everything is as good as it can be, then when you're applying, consider running through the course again to build up your intuition! This will help when it comes time to interview

I’m almost there with my google cybersecurity course on course 5 rn. I’m a fitness trainer with no experience in tech but I decided to take the course to protect my organization and the people around me and upgrade to a high pay job.
I just passed the certified cybersecurity CC from ISC2 and was thinking about what to do next. Your information is very insightful and inspiring.

I agree with the importance of having a portfolio. I just got my first IT job but as I was filling out the almost 100 applications I really got to see that the majority of them were asking for a portfolio which I didn't have.
What I did have is some confidence instilled in part by my guy Josh here. Some decent interviewing skills and the fact that I was scheduled to test for A+ LOL not even the cert yet.

Hey Josh! Thank you for the great advice man, I truly appreciate videos like this.
I wanted to ask, is it worth taking notes on every video, reading, etc. of each module/course form this cert?
I started taking it a few months ago but I found myself trying to cram as much info as possible into my notes in the fear of missing out info if I don't. At this point, however, I kinda just want to finish the program so I can receive the cert and then start focusing on other better known certs like Security+.
So as far as taking notes while going through the cert, what would you recommend? It's worth mentioning that I work full time and I'm still in school so it's hard to find a lot of time to dedicate solely to this cert, hence my questioning of my note taking practices.

Odd that this come up on my feed. Never watched one of your videos before but just completed the course and received the certificate. I am going for the Comptia trifecta and figured the Google cyber cert would be a good fountain which seems like it is. I will work on implementing your tactics to leave public service work and get a foothold in IT. Thanks for the info.

I am on course 3 of the google cybersecurity cert and am learning a lot. But I have to say this video right here gave me a lot of confidence and practical steps to help me feel confident that I can land a job.
