Chungking Mansions, a sprawling complex made up of five blocks, each 17 storeys high in Hong Kong’s Tsim Sha Tsui district, is a multicultural home and workplace to people representing at least 120 different nationalities. Opened in 1961, the centre of globalisation also offers a diverse array of places to eat, made all the more attractive by the fact that most eateries are very budget-friendly. The founder of the Hong Kong Africa Centre, Innocent Mutanga, gave the Post's Bernice Chan a special culinary tour of Chungking Mansions for a sampling of food from Africa, India and Turkey.

He might be Innocent, but he's guilty of being awesome. This was beautifully filmed.
The black guy showing us around did a great job and definitely deserves a raise.
true no stereotype African jokes ok
as soon as he opens his mouth im staving and back home we would fight for this food
Everybody at SCMP deserves a raise! Can’t live off peanuts forever! NOT a healthy diet.
Yo eula wassup
how do you know if he doesn't get paid enough haha?
@@PEACEOUTPAT ….what?
Only in Hongkong where a English-speaking Chinese reporter is shown around a building called Chungking Mansion by a west African guy tasting Middle Eastern food.
Some of the food looks really yummy when we visited, but there were no prices posted in some of the stalls so it felt like you were being ripped off amd get tourist prices when asking for prices
Here we are, the content I anticipate the most... HK Local Food Tour with Bernice Chan.
And I'm also still waiting for Ciu's Chew.
Stayed at the Mansion back in 2003
A lovely visit, many memories were made, met a number of great people, learnt a lot at the jewellery convention
Wonderful lodging
Wow we need more of these kind of series. Show us some great spot to eat in HK
I live there and there is so much food
I am not Chinese ok I born there and my school is chu Shek lun find me ahhahahahahah my name is Dipesh
If someone live in Hong see this come
Been here. I remember paying SGD$30 for a fried rice. I never paid that much for a single plate of food.
Because you are poor
It’s expensive because many people buy it, I live in hk but some foods are really cheap
Spending $30SGD for food in HK is nothing, don't compare it to your local Singapore hawker stall.
I agree for 30 SGD just for a fried rice is too expensive.
In Jakarta, with SGD $ 2 you can get simple yet delicious anchovy fried rice.
I stayed there once by accident, there were lots of creepy guys who looked high on drugs loitering around the entrance. On the ground floor there was a very long wait to get into an elevator which was annoying. The rooms are weird, the shower is actually above the toilet..
Keep the food tour coming please!! Delicious food brings back so much warm memories. 🙏🙏
I stayed in Chunging Mansions back in the 90s & revisited it in Oct 2019. Should have tried some of the local eats there more, didn't know the diversity back then.
and all the leaves are brown...and the sky is grey...🎵🎵
1995, I asked, "where is Chung King Mansion?"
Ans: Tsim Tsa Tsui, MTR Exit E. It is the oldest building among others, right across the road.
Interesting place, but can be rather touristy and food not always so cheap here.
In general I would say Mongkok/Prince Edward area usually is a better option.
Mongkok and Prince Edward doesn't have African or Middle Eastern food though.
@@bkcalvine you can get some South Asian food in Sham Shui Po though
@@openinfinity Is it affordable ?
I want to go and eat at Chunking Mansions !! Love Ghanaian food ….
You also have to try 雞蛋仔. I am a hker and I love them
Hope to be in Hong Kong 🇭🇰 someday to see Chungking Mansions
the black guy is actually a way better talent than the lady who is supposed to be running the show
I never expect a middle aged Asian lady to have much personality. And I’m also an Asian. That’s just how it goes. Maybe if she was younger but someone at her age who probably isn’t too familiar with these flavors, I wouldn’t be surprised if she didn’t even like the food
Chungking Mansions. I used to stay here in the 80s and 90s when backpacking around Asia. I'm glad I don't have to do that anymore. Every meal I've had here has been mediocre at best. But it's a great place to buy spices.
Thats what i thought when i saw the punjabi dishes.
In 2018 I stayed one night at a cheap Airbnb room in this magic building and it blowed my mind.
Wow west Africa food looked amazing
These are all the types of foods that I love.
No one's gonna say anything how he confused chapati with paratha and paratha with chapati!!!!
hahah. you said it !
Stayed in Chungking Mansions when me and my family went to hongkong. Cheap stays and super busy atmosphere. Expensive food and water though.
It’s ok to stay but I could smell the food cooking day and night from my room… not pleasant. Also coming up and down, I was bombarded with guys wanting to sell SIM cards everyday.
Water is free.. in the nearby mosque ( I am Muslim so I know 🙂)
I wonder how many locals actually eat at these spots
South China morning Post GREAT channel. Jack ma is greatest person who gave job's and Life to many families a true Hero Jack ma 🙏👌👍 ❤️ Hong Kong ❤️ China ❤️ East
Someone for sure is like “Ghana Locals?? Nah man, it’s all about Ghana Kitchen two stalls down, way better.”
Cant wait to visit HK! One of the safest cities to visit now!! I am telling myself to be patient & wait for that day when they are ready to open their borders🤗
Me too! Just preparing an Octopus card & MTR map
cannot wait to visit HK again!
I am Chinese from Guangdong I used to have a lunch in an Indian restaurant in Le cong,Foshan.Talked to the Indian boss is a nice person.Would like to eat chapati and biryani again but I don’t know whether it is in business since the COVID
Are you using a VPN?
Chung King Mansion is THE true Hong Kong.
Without it, IT IS NOT the HONG KONG.
The best reporting of a Journalist ever.
Let it live on as it is under the same Brand Name and that means the Hong Kong is living for ever.
Every cities in the world needs a Chung King Mansion for its liveness.
Timely more VIDEOS uploading about Chung King Mansion are recommended the most.
Love this! 💗
Maybe it’s just a filipino thing but I get this weird feeling when she uses her fork with left hand to eat rice when she’s already holding the spoon on her right hand.
Before buying the food in chungking mansion ,need to ask the price , sometimes they cheat about the price,i experience stay in Hong Kong most 3 year ,now i back home Malaysia 🇲🇾.
I want to visit that just to try the food!
I wanna visit Hong Kong again, it’s such an amazing place
It’s not the same now. As a foreigner you could easily get arrested for ‘violating’ national security law
Hahaha. No.
Haha. Yeah they done have so. It’s increasingly authoritarian government in HK now.
@@amd88 I live here. It was always authoritarian... People don't get arrested for no reason. Stop spreading this as tourism needs to return! The law is to keep dissidents from disrupting the city any further. It is too crowded and too busy for silly protests.
I'm never going there again, now the CCP ruined it
Wonderful!
Bismillah been always the best..best food nd value for money
just a walking distance to mosque too !!
He mixed up praantha and roti at first
Name the countries in Africa... you started out with India, Nepal, Pakistan, and Africa. Africa isn't a "region", it is a huge continent. Do better
1:52 did she eat rice with a fork?
3:45 made me hungry and it is a little after 7 am where I am.
Loving different food from globe in HK and i hope will have it's own modern restaurant located in many district of mainland China HK Taiwan including Macao
The best shawarma place on first floor, you didn't show it.....I survived five days only on their shawarmaas.
What's the name?
@@openinfinity I can't remember the name. It's been more than 8 years, now I'm trying to remember, it was on first floor or second floor ..owned by Pakistani guy, the best part about shawarma was they served with two sauces, and meat was really fresh and not overcooked
wow this reminded me of the movie chungking express
The black guy could have his own show and it will be a hit
Oh is Hong Kong okay to visit now? or are they still making it one country one system?
One country one systems is promised by the Hong Kong joint declaration as approved by the British that CCP one day might get full control of Hong Kong.
I’ve been there when I was going to Hong Kong.
I lived there for a month in 1989.
You making me so hungry 😭😭😭
As great as these foods are in Hong Kong, it is concerning that these regional foods (emphasis on REGIONS) are all put in just 5 blocks on 1 street. ONE.
Whereas British, American, Euro-Centric, and some South East Pacific Island restaurants are spread throughout HK...
Why is that concerning? People tend to gravitate toward familiarity. Not everything's a racist conspiracy.
Oh by the way, Africa isn't a country..
IJS
Oh by the way, do some comprehension.
Oh thank you for reminding us mr. Obvious. She clearly meant different nationalities from Africa. You want her to list out all the 120 nationalities? South China morning post isn’t American. Everyone know Africa is not a country so stop acting like you’re the only one who got education

Can we find Xhong Xina here?
i want to go and eat there
I miss Chongqing Mansions. 😭
Yummy
Careful you need to be sure you are complying national security law when you are literally doing anything in Hong Kong whether it be dining
Bro mixed up chapati and paratha..loved his enthusiasm though
These are the benefits to living in a big city.
Actaully the one called paratha was chapatii and the chapatti was paratha
This is so beautiful

I miss Indian food in Chongqing tower. Delicious!
Been here in 2023. Paying 85hkd for Pakistani rice beef. No taste. No flavor at all

Is Halal?

Time to lift the visa for some SE Asian nations, then they can go contribute to the diversity
sorry to hear about that. Hong Kong is very expensive anyway...
This is so awkward lol kinda wholesome tho I guess
Look yummy 🤤

AFRICA IS NOT A COUNTRY 1:00-1:06.
Lol, an african showing a Chinese who speaks like brit, around in a HK locale..topsy turvy world..lol..
I think this mask thingy is giving a lot of people a new career possibility! Take this lady for example, under normal circumstances, she would have been a great radio hostess…..Now, she can try tv, albeit SCMP, but still…..It’s tv…..
TST is HK hub 😘
I was Expecting Chinese foods but those are Indian and Turkish Foods 😅
Don't u understand the title of the video?
