Squier Paranormal Jazz Bass - Is this the BEST Squier bass? - LowEndLobster Review

- Hey everyone! We're reviewing the Squier Paranormal Jazz Bass. I was very lucky to get one. This is Squier's latest and greatest bass model sporting a unique look, control layout, and more! Let's check this thing out!
Edit: I mentioned that the P bass pickup is a humbucker, it's a split single coil. Sorry!
Big thanks to Dom @ ThirdFloorGuitars for setting up my instruments. You can find him at www.thirdfloorguitars.com

Watching with my 3 year old daughter and I said "do you like this one?" She said "yeah, can you borrow it?" Lol
LOL! That made me smile :)
You watch with your kid too! Lol my 3 year old son loves the lobster and we watch all the time! I though I would be the only one!
Smart kid!
I love this Bass, got it in white & agree with everything you said in your review. Spent a day or 2 hemming & hawing over whether to pull the trigger on pre ordering 1 a year ago as the last thing I needed was another 4 string. I thought it was too friggin’ cool though & would probably regret not getting a hold of 1 if it wound up being a limited run type of thing that ultimately made it “rare”. Love this style of pick guard but have always hated the ugly, immasculated looking Tele headstock so had they decided to go that way I would not have bothered.
Thanks JJ! Glad you're loving yours. I should pick up another one to do a revisit. It seems they've been discontinued which is a shame because they're one of the best value Squier J's out there IMO
@@LowEndLobster See, that's exactly what I was afraid of, a 1 & done run. @ $400 I'm glad I grabbed 1 while I had a chance. Quite possibly a good investment that will gain value even though it's just a Squier.
Nice just wish we had the option for P and PJ options.
Great T-shirt
Thanks!
Great review but the belch at the end took the video over the top! Only Lobster would do that!
:O
I could've sworn that the title said squirrel bass lol.
I mean, it is nuts ;P
Thanks for the video! I’ve got a question, I’ve been told that 2 tone knobs on a jazz bass won’t function as intended, meaning you won’t have complete isolation between pickups when turning one tone knob. Would you be able to shed any light on this? have they worked around this somehow with the paranormal jazz bass?
Thanks Aaron! The original wiring used some resistors to separate out the two separate volume controls, Leo didn't have the knowledge that we do today. The modern stack designs do not follow the original Fender design from the 60's, and I believe they should function as intended. I haven't looked inside the paranormal to see how it was wired, but both volumes and tones worked as intended with no issues (bass is sold now so I can't look in it anymore ;P)
@@LowEndLobster thanks so much for the reply, ‘‘twas very helpful!
@@aaronsazon2835 You're very welcome, thanks for being a part of the community :)
I don't get the whole lobster joke-thing, "you guys know what you need to do"... what is it all about?
I'm just being silly. I think it's important that we not take ourselves too seriously as some folks can come off as 'my opinion is INDISPUTABLE FACT!' and get very defensive of stuff. I just like to goof around and play bass, and the lobster claw is just a way to show that :)
@@LowEndLobster ok, I thought it was some joke about the low-end I was not getting (I’m Italian). On the fence between this Paranormal and the 70’s CV Precision, you made it clear you prefer this one :)
Do you think it would be cool to swap the bridge pu for a humbucker?
@@JCBigCat that would indeed be cool! I'm going to get one of the newer paranormals as a mod project soon
I do wish they had used a telecaster headstock but its not enough to keep me from wanting one of these. I believe there were a couple high end manufacturers that had a version of this except they used actual 50s precision style single coils.
Yeah I agree, a tele headstock would be icing on the cake here!
You know squier makes the squier classic vibe 50s p bass. It looks like this with a tele headstock.
I think the idea is that it’s a cross between a jazz and 54 p-bass, a bit like Fender’s Parallel universe series. If it had a tele headstock it would just be a 54 p-bass with jazz pickups, wouldn’t it?
2:05 THE LICC 😮
I called the police on myself
the first Review of this bass on UA-cam (I think)
Indeed it is!
¡Gran Review hermano! No encontraba ningún vídeo sobre este paranormal y gracias a tu Review estoy más que contento de haber hecho la preventa, saludos desde México 🇲🇽 aquí llega a mediados de septiembre 🤯
Gracias amigo! Tu aliento es appreciado! Saludos!
I just bought this exact same bass guitar yesterday 😊
I agree on the pickups; they sound a bit sterile to me. I don't really hear that characteristic Fender vintage warmth in it at all. Very cool looking bass for sure! If only they had gone with the Tele headstock!
Thanks! Yeah if these had the CV pickups with the more rowdy tone (trade off of noise), this would be a very appealing package as well!
Hello, as mine was completely lacking the typical Jazz Bass growl, I tried replacing the pickups with Custom Shop 60s...
Still not pleased with the result, altough louder it does not sound like a jazz bass should.
I will sell mine.
You can see my upgrade here:
ua-cam.com/video/RTeXgfftd3g/v-deo.html
Coming to Canada in September. I really will have my eye on this. Thanks for the review. Cheers
You are very welcome!
This would be perfect with dark star bisonic pickups sheesh
Those look sweet! Reminds me of the Schecter Model T and the Jackson CBX except those are PJ and about twice as much. 👋🦞
Indeed! I think Fender had a tele model with a PJ config. I like this Squier a lot.
Yeah but the Model T has that 18 volt ENG preamp as well as EMG pickups. And you can find a used one sometimes .
@@WyattLite-n-inn Yeah, I would snag a used model T before I would buy one of those Squiers. I have a 004 and an Omen Extreme and they are amazing!
boomer bass meme : I like those riot session Basses too but they don’t look as cool . But they have an extended upper horn and more contours . Plus it comes in fretless. What a great channel this is, fellow crustacean!
@@WyattLite-n-inn Yeah love this channel! Have you checked out Harley Benton BZ5000-NT? Basically a Cirrus 5 string knock off but totally kicks ass from what I have seen for $350 from Thomann. It is a contender for me for next bass.
Ok now! I give five stars because the sound is as good as American made products. I don't like the slant cut of a jazz body because it's really bad in a stand and does not fit certain bass cases.
Thanks Richard! Yeah this one is definitely the best "well rounded" Squier they have. The CV pickups have a bit more bit but at the expense of noise (these pickups are relatively silent in comparison). The finish and fretwork on this one was really good though.
this would be cool do expand with other models
like 2 p style pups, or the early style tele type pup or even a big neck humbucker like the 70s tele bass
I looks cool as hell with the big pickguard
Agreed! A double P would be awesome. I love my FGN double P.
Hey man! I really appreciate these review videos on all these lower end basses! They’re absolutely phenomenal and they always put a smile on my face! Keep on doing what you’re doing man I definitely am considering getting this model whenever they’re available 🤟
Thank you! I really appreciate that :).
I love the look of the paranormal. However, I have a Harley Benton early style P bass, and a Harley Benton 70s style J bass which a guitar friend of mine was amazed only cost me less than $300 for the pair. He also let me have a crack at his Ric 4003 and MM Stingray yesterday!!
Nice! I have some HBs en route, should be here in a few weeks. The pesky Chinese Warwick Sadowsky thing is holding everything up!
Great review. I prefer the Indonesian Squiers by far so am curious to get my hands on one of these ⚔️⚔️⚔️
Thanks Steve!
That bass is ok.....BUT ...my eyes keep looking at the fretboard of that SPECTOR!!!!!....HAHAHA
Video of that is coming ;P. I've been working on setting a schedule of content, and I found that shooting like 5 short 10 minute videos in a row (that end up being 5 minutes post production) makes for some solid content and gives me plenty of time to shoot longer stuff without leaving too much of a gap between releases.
I agree Lobster: the Chinese built Squiers do feel and sound better then the Indonesia built ones. I used to own a 2018 Chinese made Squier Classic Vibe 50's P bass, sold it in January because I needed cash, and then in April bought a new Squier Classic Vibe 50's P bass made in Indonesia (different color). I noticed the difference right away and now I miss the Chinese made one. Never thought I would say that.
Great comment! It is a strange thing to say that the Chinese model is better than the Indonesia one, but it's very true here. This is a very nice bass!
Gradually, they get closer and closer to the Cowpoke...
Cowpoke is love, cowpoke is life.
I love the lick you played at the end of the demo at the beginning. Sounds familiar.
;)
That is a great sounding jazz bass! Love the sound of that neck pickup with the tone rolled back halfway. So many tonal choices just with the two volumes and two tones. No doubt those pickups are stacked humbuckers. Great review.
Thanks Keith! Yeah the versatility of this thing is pretty great, especially for 400 bucks. Very impressed.
Where did you get the amber colored bass from? It's impossible to find now. Did you order it from Canada? Thanks.
I bought this when they first launched. I don't have it anymore (but have a black one for a revisit)
The original run of these were made in this color or white. Nowadays they're available in black or sunburst. Why the original run was so short I don't know but it is what it is
If you like it you like it happy for you i rate this bass 1 lobster jaws 2 max .
Thanks Ram
I see no point to the styling on that bass whatsoever. They took all the ugliness of the 50's style P and stuck it on a jazz body. And instead of using the cool old headstock, they went with the standard J neck. It's the worst of all worlds. It also sounds cheap.
What you forget is that it is modelled to the 50's P bass with that small pick up, not the split pickup. So that is why the neck pickup can sound
like a P bass.
Thanks Marco!
I forgot to ask cause I don't remember you saying it. How is the weight on this bass. My stingray is a good 10 pounds at least. It's not bad but lighter would be nice.
This was before I regularly weighed instruments. I think it was in the 9ish range
@@LowEndLobster thanks man I really appreciate the info and help.
I think it’s worth noting that almost every time I’ve seen one of these used online, they’ve had massive chips taken out of the paint, so the finish probably isn’t that good
My Paranormal Jazz Bass is completely lacking the typical Jazz Bass growl and stock pickups are very low in volume output.
Your copy sounds very good/punchy however, could this be because the strings were brand new?
I tried replacing the pickups with Custom Shop 60s...
Still not pleased with the result, altough louder it does not sound like a jazz bass should.
I will sell mine.
You can see my upgrade here:
ua-cam.com/video/RTeXgfftd3g/v-deo.html
I love the butterscotch, but they’re hard to find now. They just released a second run and they’re black w/ an anodized pickguard or sunburst with a tort one. I’m curious how the second run compares, it would be cool if you checked one of those out!
I plan on it!
@@LowEndLobster I nearly died when Lobster mentioned a second run in a recent video... and my my, looks like a 3-tone sunburst will be mine! :) Look forward to the review Lobster!
I’m glad you added the “bland” comment near the end. I was trying to think of the right word. I’ll take the classic vibe or the P bass sound any day. Both look better too. Good review though.
Thanks Raymond! Indeed, I actually had the CV5 at the same time as this and though I liked the CV pickups better, I thought the Paranormal felt better and was an overall better package. Looks wise, yeah the CV stuff looks awesome... however the QC issues that are running rampant through the CV stuff (not all basses, but a lot of them have sloppy QC) do not make me confident in them.
Is this better than the squire 70s CV jazz
Thanks Jack! I did too overall. I thought the CV pickups sounded a little better, but the overall quality of the paranormal was superior (as was the QC)
No!
Simply an excellent review. Great work brother! Seems like one heck of a bass.
Thanks man!
I really love the look of this bass. I hope they expand the paranormal line. Great job lobster
Thanks!
I have the blonde one same year 2020, construction is pristine, I ended changing the bridge saddles only. Pick ups are a little deaf in comparison with my other Squier Jazz Basses but sound is good.
LICK ALERT. That thing’s pretty sweet though. I’d definitely want one if my one proper bass wasn’t a jazz lol
Thanks!
I would definitely buy an American version of this. What is the weight? Maybe I'll get the custom shop to build me one
I think it was ~9 lbs. Wasn't an anchor by any means. Very comfortable and well balanced. I really like the design and would love to see a Fender (and a 5 string) version of this!
Oh no, you played the lick.
It's illegal
@@LowEndLobster I alerted the officials, they'll be there any moment 🚔🚔
I just got one in sunburst. Great cool bass! I have a set of pickups from an old Dame bass (makers of the Sire basses). The pickups are good as they are. Maybe I´ll a change the pickups later on :) Thanks for the video!
Hello, thank you for your review 🙏 I’d like to ask a question. Which would be your opinion between the paranormal and the gold 64 anniversary squier? 🙏
Bought one of these. Looked and sounded great for the money. However, the truss rod was cranked all the way down and was not moving so I sent it back. Squire QC has really suffered over the last few years even though Squire has consistently raises prices and, for whatever reason, eliminated the Vintage Modified line.
..a different control plate and a different pickguard? That's it?
I mean, it's a pretty nice passive J package for those looking for a solid cheap J. Build quality is what sets it apart, it's really stellar where the Indonesian Classic Vibes were... not so stellar.
@@LowEndLobster I have an indonesian Mikey Way Moosetang and an indonesian JB fretless and they are both the equal of my two MIMs...my chinese 50's p-bass is visually perfect and period-correct...skinny frets, 2x4 neck, pine body, brass saddles, bone nut...
Wow, that sounds great. It has a very modern sound (to my ears) though it did cop a pretty decent p-bass sound. I would love to see a 5 string version!
Thanks! Yeah this thing isn't as vintage sounding as its styling implies, but the modern sound isn't a bad one. I too would love a 5'er! Fingers crossed
If You have to choose just one between the Paranormal and the Sire V3 wich one would You choose?
Man that thing sounds great! The best Squire yet.
Thanks James!
I like this one. SHAME on you for making me want another Squire. I don't need another squire, lobster, I don't need another Squire.
Now that's out of the way, I think I need another another a squire. Thank you for sharing, cheers.
Haha thanks Tommy!
LowEndLobster LowEndLobster my dear friend, I hope your weekend is going well and gets better. You are awesome. Cheers
SQUIER!!!
Do you know if that blonde color is still available? It appears to be discontinued.
This is now discontinued! Just bought mine under the wire! Phew!
Whaaa!? These things were awesome. I need to do a revisit
@@LowEndLobster unfortunately the Paranormal line has been discontinued. Buy one if you can find it.
Kinda sad the Paranormal Jazz Bass doesn’t come in blonde now.
kind of cool that they combined the two styles and made something 'uniquely Squier' VS just a 'straight copy' of other Fender models..
Agreed 100% Will be doing a revisit of this bass at some point
It gives us an opportunity to shamelessly use a squire on the gig because you can't get a Fender version :)
More like paranormal experience...
I want to believe!
idk i hear some buzz in those pickups lol
There was a clear buzz when you solo-Ed the bridge pick up and you were saying how quiet it was.
Thanks for the comment. You're not wrong. I go by what's coming out of my amp. I hear it in the vid for sure, but not while I'm filming. It stinks because I'm only listening to my stuff through my amp and desktop (usually not using headphones when editing), so when there ends up being noise that I don't hear through the amp, I don't hear it until someone points it out. Other J's in this price range were noisier through my amp when on one pickup, and I usually try and point that out.
suggestion for a review: squier CV-50 precision bass, i've heard a lot of good things about them and they look the part
Thanks Ryddex! I've been eyeing those as well as the mustangs. Those look nice! You'll likely be seeing those on the channel in the next couple of months :).
Thanks for helping me purchase my new sunburst 54. The fit and finish is amazing.
Thanks, Lobster! Your review is one of the main factors that convinced me to buy this!
Thanks Pandui! Congrats and enjoy :)
You've got a loud buzz going on there, dude.
Yeah this was a very early video before I implemented my power conditioner. Don't worry, I'll be revisiting this bass and putting it through its paces with my current testing methodology which is a lot more in depth than this older vid.
@@LowEndLobster Super. Looking forward.
The tone I hear is coming through the board, so we have no idea how it really sounds live with an amp at a gig.....It seems very trebly sounding, Like his strings are stainless steel.....
I mean in a live setting your amp and whether or not you're direct is a major variable, as are the speakers. I eliminate those variables and use the same methodology every time :)
@@LowEndLobster It really sounded great, and I would feel this bass is an actual threat to real fender instruments.Fender will have to make one....
Really cool colors, reminds me of a classic Telecaster
Indeed. Very classic feel to them with a bit more modern tone. I honestly wanted the white, but they only had the butterscotch (it was literally the only one and I snatched it ahaha). I don't have any regrets though, it looks great.
I've said it before there are really good squires to be had. That being said I wouldn't include the affinity series, never come across a good one of them yet.
Thanks Paul! You're right, there are really good squiers out there! I have an Affinity here that's a friend's... I'll be "Pimpin" it soon :P.
Well Guitar Center has them in stock. I just checked.
Indeed! They have the new finishes too. My favorite is the black one with the anodized pickguard.
@@LowEndLobster How are the tuners?
Solid enough. I'd recommend checking one out at GC and seeing for yourself
@@LowEndLobster OK. In stock means they have to ship them from the warehouse.to the store so I wouldn't be able to try before buying.
WOWEE that is a bright sounding bass
:)
It's all in the way your eq it .. great demo by the way !!! it'll sound great through my Carvin BX1200 rig .. that I know for a fact .. lol
Great!
Thanks Syafiq!
Just ordered one of these this evening. Thanks very much for this review, your demos here sealed the deal for me!
Thanks JGP, glad my videos helped :)
The Squiers I have are all good basses,
Strongly considering this bass. Curious to know which pickups would you upgrade this with?
That's a good question. There's so many J pickup options, hard to choose. Depends on what you were going for. Me personally? I think I'd go for a set of Nordies (for no reason), but I could really go in any direction. It's hard to choose! I won't be modding this however. She's making the rounds to the rest of the crew to review before I flip it!
@@LowEndLobster who are you sending it to for more reviews?
@@9999saxman Here's a hint- B_llyth_ki_d ;P
I saw what you did there with that snippet from a certain Italian bass jam. I haven't giggled that hard since your Hardluck kings review..or maybe your second one..
Hehehe thank you :)
I don't think it sounds as good as the CV
I agree, if it had the CV pickups it'd be an absolute show stopper. The fit and finish and overall package are superior to the CV but a set of aftermarket pickups would be icing on the cake for the paranormal IMO
Hey lobster saw your reviews on the squire paranormal jazz and the Sire V3. Which one would you recommend overall?
Thanks Manuel! The Squier is a much more well rounded package with better hardware, but the Sire has more flexible electronics. Neck feel on both is great, though the Squier has gloss and the Sire is satin.
Thank you for the review. What do you think about This paranormal vs Cort Gb65jj? Which one should i take?
Great question! Honestly, both are solid choices and it really comes down to what features do you want out of a J. The Cort is active and has the roasted maple neck without the gloss, paranormal is passive with a gloss neck. Both are great mod platforms. For me, the biggest choice would be the active vs passive.
Thinking about getting one and routing it for Gibson style Eb-3 pickups... Seem like a bad idea?
... That actually sounds incredible. I'd love to see/hear the finished result!
I love the gold lakland bass with lipstick pick-ups in the background. I have no idea what the white bass with double p-pickups are but it reminds me of those mosrite guitars johnny ramone used to play.
Thanks Grant! That Lakland is the Jerry Scheff, an awesome bass that they don't make anymore. Currently lives with my good friend Chris. The Double P is the FGN Mighty Power, one of my favorite rock basses. I have a few videos on that too!
Kent Armstrong lipstick p/ups like the surf n turf!!!!!I bet it would go into KILLER mode!!!
:O.... In one of the transparent white ones!? That's a really great idea. This bass is making the rounds to my friends, but it might be worth modding!
Thanks! I bought one! Ii have a '75 modded P bass w/PJ combo and last year I put a Fender roasted maple P neck on it with the contoured back. Wow!, and a 2008 Jazz bass 24 5 string. This is my first Squier and I never thought of buying one until now. I was born in '54 so it is also an homage to me! :)
Awesome! Congrats on your bass Glenn!
The licc!
It was an accident, I swear! ;P
Recently purchased this bass, what a nice rock tone, I know this sounds crazy but it sound like a very nice p bass.
Awesome! I just bought one on sale to do a revisit video on. Hope you are enjoying yours.
The combination of JB pickups and this pickguard reminds me a bit of a early to mid 90s Yamaha BB-LTD, if you remember these. Great, unjustly forgotten basses. As for this one - quite an interesting beast. I'd love to try one out.
Thanks Bassdriver! They're really quite solid, esp for the money. Honestly, I'd get this over a CV as a modding platform for sure.
Thanks for this very informative video on this lovely bass guitar! Due to what I saw & heard here (& another vid from Empire Music) the next morning I bought my 1st bass, the Squire Paranormal Jazz.
I appreciate your awesome shows & am a new subscriber.
That's awesome! Congrats on your new bass!

Sweet. Just grabbed the last one on the site I was looking at. Was crossed between the Contemporary Active Jazz Bass with roasted neck or the classic vibe 70s bass. Then remembered this video from a while back. Super stoked. Have plans for DiMarzio pickups and Hipshot tuners and bridge.
Awesome! Congrats on the bass :)
I’ve been wanting a PJ bass for the nice blend of tones you can get out of it. I prefer the PJ sound, basically.
Having said that, this 54 Paranormal keeps getting really high marks from everyone who reviews it and I really like how it sounds, and for that price!
I’m going to go try one out to see how it feels, but it’s looking like a solid choice for this beginner.
What would you suggest as a pick up upgrade for down the line? I’m thinking something with a bit more thickness for the neck pick up to get just a little more of a P vibe.
When I heard how this one sounded on the neck position I was definitely into the somewhat more P’ish vibe it had so I’d want to enhance that with an upgrade.
Thanks for the great review!
Hey Pablo! Yes, this is a solid beginner's choice. A pickup upgrade down the line would be a great choice as well. So glad you enjoyed the video!
Okay that is a really impressive $400 bass.
Right!?
THE LICC 😱
It was an illegal use of the licc.... I am going to jail.
LowEndLobster you did slapp so I think he accepp hahaha. great review by the way! now I want one hahaha
@@popbassme Thank you :)
This may be what I've been searching for. I want a jazz style bass without the typical control panel and input location. I play right handed guitars lefty/upside down so jazz basses usually just have too much going on with all the knobs and input jack right where I'd be trying to rest my arm/play. This is unusually perfect for me.
This is how my wife and daughter play also and I have been looking for the right kind of bass for them you are right the input jack and knobs are in the way playing like this
You always make me want a bass that I can't get yet. August? Why! Oh why! Very, very nice.
This was from early/mid 2020. These are very available now, but early COVID logistics and supply chain issues made these hard to get in the beginning.
I want to see how the Yamaha BB34 sounds compared to this Paranormal bazz.
Thanks Stephen! I'll be checking out one of the new BB's soon :)
Hey, Lobster! Hope you could help me out. I'm torn between the Squier paranormal jazz bass and the Sire V3. Which one would you get? (quality and sound-wise) Appreciate it!
Great question. Both are built really well and are solid well rounded budget basses. The Sire is a lot more moddable (you can install new preamp without routing for a bettery), but the Squier Paranormal felt a little more premium in terms of build (but more limited in terms of drop in upgrades). Hope that helps!
@@LowEndLobster Huge input! Thanks so much. I think now I can make a more sound decision. Thanks for taking the time to answering my question. Really appreciate it! 🙌
Great video, thanks for the early review ! Just wished you would have used a pick at some point. I know it's often viewed as a controversial topic by some traditionalists, but plenty of rock and punk bass players play with picks.
Thanks Dimitri! I'm TERRIBLE with a pick. I can't use em. It's not a prejudice thing for me, I'm simply a terrible pick player.
Can we have the NPU with tone on AND the BPU with tone off both at the same time? And vice versa.
I would love to!.... but I already sold this ;P. Sorry!
I have a Classic Vibe P-bass from the 1st run, which were made in China. I'm looking at this to be my Jazz bass thanks to your great review
Thanks! You will find the same quality craftsmanship here as you do with your MIC P. Was very impressed with the build quality of this bass.
I have one of these. Lovely basses, well made, nice to play but shame about the pickups. They sound great plugged into your practice amp at home but get it to the gig and the lack of definition (bass sustain) in the higher registers is notable by it's absence. They disappear in the mix.
Thank you for sharing your experience! I plan on revisiting this bass and modding it as well in the near future :)
@@LowEndLobster I look forward to that. It will be interesting to see what you do.
I own this bass as wel, I believe the pickups to be very low on volume. Is this also your experience?
@@ThomasDeWeerdt The volume (output) on mine seems to be normal on the low end but as I travel up the neck.... I think we both agree replacements are a must. This bass deserves some nice ones.
Probably plays as good as (or better) than a Fender Player series! Might have to make some space for one of these...
Yeah, definitely much higher quality than the standard squiers and definitely on par with an entry level fender. The gloss finish that they use is really really nice... Surprisingly nice.
Damn, I really want one. What pickups would you recommend to perhaps put in this thing?
Thank you! That's a great question. If I were to mod this thing right now, I'd probably try out one of the new DCB Jazz sets from Aguilar :)
Great review as always. My first bass was an Epiphone EB-3. It has a set of volume and tone knobs for both pickups and a 3 way switch. I love this control layout, so many times during the church gig I just rolled off the volume knob of one of the pickups and used the 3 way switch as a mute switch (I don't have a tuner pedal). If I was ever to buy any passive J-bass, this would by my preferred control layout (stacked knobs).
Thank you :)
