Squier Paranormal Jazz Bass '54 demo

- Опубліковано 28 сер 2020
- The Paranormal Jazz Bass® ’54 turns fiction into reality, combining the easy playability and tonal versatility of the J Bass® with the classic looks of its older sibling, the Precision Bass® (around 1954, the P Bass® transitioned from a slab body to a contoured body). This bass is easy to play thanks to its “C”-shaped neck profile and narrow 1.5” nut width and offers out-of-this-world tone courtesy of its dual Fender-Designed alnico single-coil pickups. Further refinements include a vintage-style bridge and tuning machines, dual concentric volume and tone controls, and a sprawling ’50s-style pickguard that transports the Jazz Bass back in time.

Man, that’s a great sounding bass. Love the grooves.
Pinched that like button so your hand could turn back into a lobster claw.
I like it! Good passive sound. Responsive pickups. Love the color and retro look!
I think they could have gone with a vintage tele bass headstock to make it perfect stylewise. Sweet bass anyway, nice colour, versatile and just a little bit different from other J basses. I wouldn't say no! Rock on 👍
Yes, they should have gone for a P neck too. Otherwise it is just a restyled Jazz.
@@xavierandradev I think that's why it's called a Jazz Bass... Because it's not a P-Bass.
Girls prefer that headstock in the bedroom
Changing the neck to a Precision would take away some of the Jazz tone. It's done for a reason. Best Squire ever made. Fyi I love all Fender Necks but depends on what sound you want.
REALLY thinking about getting this one. It's pretty amazing how good Squier instruments are these days. Thanks for the great review!
Love the idea of independent tone controls for pups. That's a cool bass, and a cool demo, thanks!
Looks good and sounds good with multiple usable tones. Thanks.
Ordering one of these in a few months. I can't wait. It will be an amazing addition to my basses.
FIRST BISHES
A jazz bass that looks like a pbass and sounds like something in between. Pretty cool experiment by Fender/Squire. Totally sounds like a Pbass when you are slapping and a jazz when you used fingers.
Just placed an order for one. Excited!
That’s definitely a good sounding bass for the price. Loving ya chops too. 😎
I can't wait to watch. love your content!
Your sound is awesome in this video! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Just bought this today, new beginner and found ya channel.. I’m subbing!!!
I love that bass! Thanks for the video. 🥂
I love the tonal range!! surprisingly nice for a Squier!! Especially for a passive bass as well!!!
Good sounding bass. Love the classic retro looks...
Now, not normally a fan of slap playing... but those grooves are great. It’s makin’ me want to explore slap technique 👍👍👍
Great tone, great look
great demo I rrreally like the paranormal fenders
I saw one yesterday at the music store. The sales associate played it for me and it sounded so mellow!
Excellent sounding passive jazz bass
Looks good and sounds good. Nice bass man.
Heck yeah. Sounds great
Great playing. Love the bass too. Would definitely sit right in a mix
Great demo, great unboxing really that was cool. And super musical too! "but you cant use my phoooonne"
I love that color 🔥 and sounds good
The vintage 'Stack Knobs' from the early '61 Jazz basses gave those instruments a great deal of tonal versatility before switching to the more economical single plastic tone and 2 volume control configuration. I've retrofitted my 60's SB J-Bass with the vintage stack knobs and get the same results. That massive maple neck is punchier and fatter in the bottom end than a standard rosewood neck. Essentially, the instrument is an early 60's J-bass with a '50s P-bass neck - the best of BOTH worlds!! As for the noise, I line my control and PU cavities with copper foil tape which I solder to ground. I've also done the same to the insides of the plastic PU shells with great results.
Wow, great bang for the buck! ~ Thanks for this awesome review!
great to see so much finger style !!
Nice playing and great review! 😎👍
I am so happy with my purchase!
Ordered! Arrived scratched so awaiting replacement but it's beautiful and neck is sugar. I have already name for her. The growl is amazing, sounds like Stingray (to me)!
I FIXN 2 GET ME ONE... THANKS FOR THE REVIEW BIG DOG 👍👌
Maaan that tone is crispy!!!
If the 50s P Bass and Jazz Bass had a baby.
I really want one of those!
thanks for this video man! I was looking for a replacement for my Squier Vintage PJ bass. I wanted to have a Vintage vibe, relativ low price and a bass that is good for slapp. You showend that the sound is MEGA, and thatit is perfect for slapp and you really get an old school vibe!
The only thing left is for me to buy this baby :p
OK. I'll be right back... Ordered the white one
You live inside the bass guitar and im jealous of you man. greetings from istanbul. youre doing great job 🤘🏻
I'm not sure what to say to that but thank you for watching!!!
I try to keep away from the Paranormal (except the Man himself) - today I put you in my headphones via Zoom B1X Four and linked in my SX JB75. Of course I cant play like you but I could dial in similar tones. So I figure the active Audere preamp in a bass plus some outboard modelling can make almost any pickup sound like you want. Choose the guitar for the look and feel - cheap SX allows one to chose a wardrobe (closet?) full.
Can't wait until these become Shippable to UK.
Love your review and playing.
Damn that bass sounds good ...
cool video
I can't sleep because of this since yesterday.
It’s a reissue of the old Cowpoke!!! I got a 90s 1 That is Bae to me lol It sounds good Frat
That bass looks great with the shirt! Squier is for the children!
Another one Bully? Don´t get me wrong, it's a sick bass. But I actually found about your channel when you said "another one, really" about the Glarry 5 String, which is actually now in my possession.
Nice demo and review! Was distracted by the shirt though, having a Chapelle's Show flashback ...Wu Tang Clan aint nothin to f*ck with!
Wow! I see a 5 string version in the works.😳👍🏾
Great review as always! A lot of the new fender/squiers interest me, this one in particular, but they all seem to come w/ "vintage tall" frets which makes me pause, I like low frets either real vintage or med. jumbo. How did those frets feel to you ?
Well for how I play... It felt great. That being said I tend towards medium frets... This is not that
I bought mine 2 months ago and for the price I have that Jazz funk after a long 10yr absence after selling my Geddy Lee Jazz (don't ask .. lol )
Loving this bass .. I have the white one but like the butterscotch one as well .. great value and quality in this bass
Man that bass sounds like that squire you threw preamp in 👍. And you arr running through that little fender rumble?
Very pretty bass! Very "sassy electronics"! Impressive for the price:) Nice playing to demo it. You mentioned it may surpass a vintage modified. If that's the case, it must feel pretty good. Thanks for your review:). Not sure why I'm looking at basses as I have plenty. Nice review.
Addiction to bass...
It's a funny thing, the feeling of needing many basses as possible lmao. I played guitar for 13 years, I was cool with 3. Strat, Tele, Les Paul. I would swap out each for different versions of each other. But always had 3.
I got the itch to get a bass, got one. And felt like I had been lying to myself for 13 years playing guitar lmao. I am a bass player. It was meant to be, me having a bass in my hand. I got my first one 6 years ago, I have 9 currently lmao. 2 jazz basses, my only bass that has a twin. I have 2 5 strings and 3 six strings. I added one of these paranormal 54s, recently and used it on a studio recording session 2 nights ago for this local fusion band (who have a bass player but he couldn't seem to lay down a tight, correct track to save his life lmao it was a song he wrote too). The producer is my homie, I've worked for, and with, him since I was 16, 33 now. He called me and said hey fusion band here, bassist sucks, bring whatever 2 basses you want, get here ASAP. I had no clue what the song was like or any info other than fusion lmao which is crazy unspecific. The P54, like in this vid, was used first and I didn't even need to try the other
The Paranormal (same as vid) saved the day. Second take was money and is going to be used on the record, I guess. Only reason it wasn't one take, is because the written, original song had a bridge section that was so dang corny I needed to say something about it haha, stopped the take and told them how I thought it sounded and suggested a change to it. Not a change to the whole bridge, just 5 bars worth and the change j pulled out of my ass sounded right in the song and also added a context for the rest of the song to feel more groovy.
The the dude who played bass in the band has a Warwick Thumb 5, a really expensive bass...that I think is like ok. Very weird choice, in my eyes. If I was gonna drop 3k$ on a bass I would get something custom lol. Not some production model instrument that doesn't look or sound much different than 699$ basses hahahaah
sick
you were so excited to play your forgot to even see if it was in tune, haha great vid anyway
Dang it I knew I forgot something...
@@BullyThaKidd I've been there with an active bass, batteries came with it but not installed. I could see the batteries in the box but couldn't figure out why it didn't make sound lol
@@rex8958 lol I did that too when I bought my first active bass lol
Es normal que haga un sumbido al mover los controles?
I would love a pbass in that shape :/
Same I own an Ibanez Roadstar II RB650 bass in all black and I'm buying EMG GZR pickups and all black tuning keys because Modern Metal basses look dope all blacked out like a goth girl.
What song is that bass part from you play around 4:15 ish. I heard you play it in a few other videos and it sounds dope as hell.

When is that Bacchus review coming bro???..Lobster told me you pulled it out tha box yesterday...and you liked it...sorry bout that one...i already have a ton of parts for it ..Hipshot kickass bridge ..Seymour Duncan Apollo p/u ..Tone Monster preamp...and Hipshot HB7 tuners all in black !!!!...also new knobs as well!!...Its gonna be $$$$$$$..cant wait for your review!!!!!
Cool I haven't had the chance to do a review justice... I'll work on it tonight for wednesday
how long have you been playing the bass? I just started, its been a month for me and seeing how smoothly your hands move on the neck of the bass makes me so jealous because my hands are so tiny loool and im also teaching myself so im kinda figuring it out as I go
Ummm like 12 or 13 years.. . its just hand strength built over time. Also go get a setup and ask them to lower the action.
I hope you still play bass...
Hey Bully. I've had a question for ya. Two volumes and two tones? How does that work? Do you have any suggestions on how it's wired? I found wiring diagrams, tried it on my bass and it doesn't work.
Yours truly,
Confused Scotsman
I haven't really looked into it... But I would guess I looks close the pbass config just two of them... On concentric knobs.
Robert McDougle check out the original J Bass (1960-61) controls with the same concentric, or stacked knob configuration. You have a lot more tonal options with the concentric configuration.
You and the bass sounds good looking for a 5 string. But I will change to a stack confirmation more chooses that's just me
I know it's been a while since you did this LOL. I just bought one (and am a newb) .. are you using a Rumble 40 Combo amp with it? Would that be a good pairing for practice and jamming?
I'm using the stage 800 but yeah the rumble series is great. The 40 should do u well
Oh, great...now I have to buy another bass! I'm blaming you when the wife sees it. ;-)
Just got mine no gig bag
Just throwing a question out there but. If my scale length is 34" (Jackson Spectra Js2) How big of a gig bag would I need and any recommendations on them? (First time instrument :) )
You could make it with one that designed for that scale. But look for35 to be safe
@@BullyThaKidd Dam I did not even know a 35" existed. Will check for that then. Thanks again Bully
Rumble 800 combo?
Bass looks like wu tang sign
now im confused which one to get. the paranormal jazz bass or the classic vibe 70's precission bass.
I say go paranormal
Thing's got some bite
Thanks for trying to correct your input level on the audio interface but it’s still wayy too hot my man. ✌️
BULLY... THOSE PICKUPS ARE PAST HOT..... THEY ARE LIKE THE RUMBLING OF THUNDER.... MY YOUNG BROTHER..
How much ?
It looks like a parts caster to me,they should've put the tele headstock on it
What's the song starting around 13:55? I hear it played by everyone
Forget me nots... Or men in black
Bruh the intro 😂😂😂
'Salutations Crustaceans' Lol!!!
Where does one find a lobster hand claw these days??
Good video.. You may wanna back down the highs a bit..
Wu - Tang
Oh good....I needed something else to spend money on...jeez.
Why Paranormal? Is it cursed?
Jazz bass pickups in a 1954 P bass style body.
@@weswilson53 Nope, the body is Jazz Bass style, just the pickguard and the control-plate is the 50's P-bass style, all others is J-bass! Nice bass, sounds good, probably i will buy one... :)
It has jazz bass pickups and a jazz bass headstock. But the body is modeled after a 1954 P bass. That's why it's paranormal. Like the Paranormal Telecaster guitar is Telecaster pickups in a Jazzmaster style body. It says the same thing on Fender's website:
shop.fender.com/en-US/squier-electric-basses/jazz-bass/paranormal-jazz-bass-54/0377100501.html
That's a classic 50's color and now they dropped it. Color, yes, but not the model. I will never understand their way of thinking.
Just to let y’all know the bag doesn’t come with the bass
