    EDIT: These are designed and engineered in Switzerland, but actually built in South Korea. There isn't really any indication of the country of manufacturer. I've already reached out to Tribe and mentioned this and that they should really be more up front about this.
    Hey everyone! Today we're reviewing the Tribe P3 triple P bass from Tribe Guitars out of Switzerland. Featuring a beautiful matte white body housing THREE... yes, three alnico precision pickups, this is a very unorthodox offering. However, is three pickups the secret sauce or tonal overkill? Let's find out!
    This bass and all my other basses with rounds are strung with MJC Ironworks Nickel Plated Stainless Steel 45-105(130) unless otherwise noted. Check them out at www.mjcironworks.com

    With three stacked vol/tone knobs this could be a Swiss Army knife of basses. I'd love one! 👍

    • @russellzauner
      @russellzauner 3 роки тому +1

      I would actually go for a standard double pickup of both the P and J interleaved in their normal positions and cram a super hot minibucker in the neck if a full size won't fit and screw it all the way down you you can fuggin slap right
      This bass is not routed for that lol
      but since they gave you the pickups, you can learn how to reconfigure such a thing for when the platform hits the mark a little tighter.
      Also, I'll remind people that Warmoth and other companies will literally custom route your body included in price of the part. No upcharge, not if you're a good/smart company that people want to do business with. For 1000 euros you can buy a lot of great parts if you're going to tear this thing apart. Some of the parts companies will even help you figure out the right routing for your config - remember, they're enthusiasts too, at least the people working in the factory are. Warmoth, *everyone* is an enthusiast. I have an original Boogie Bodies on my late 70's fretless p bass and it's amazing. Then again, it's zebrawood so it's a unique experience that doesn't take any of the sauce off the bass while adding some clarity (and like 12 lbs thanks lol)

      @@russellzauner I think the bridge P on this one would sound great dialled in just a little to add bite to to either or both of the other two, individual volume controls would be way better than the current 100% on or off switching

    This would be so much better with the coil configuration reversed to have the E and A coil closer to the bridge, especially on that bridge pickup. Personally, I would like them swaped it on all 3 pickups. Also, a trio of stacked pots with a volume and tone for each pickup would have been nice. The only reason I really see for having that neck pickup in the mudbucker position is to blend it in a little to make it sound Phat. Yeah, with a capital P.

    Godin made this Shifter Bass a few years back. It consisted of 3 single coils with similar placement. It had a 5-way switch which allowed for bridge, bridge+center, center, bridge+neck, center+neck. You could run the neck pickup isolated by selecting position 1 and then pull the tone knob (it is a push pull knob). It is a cool bass.

    • @russellzauner
      @russellzauner 3 роки тому +2

      I think Godin is getting ready to release a 7 string tenor guitar and already has a couple of the 5 string basses of my desire (it's HARD to find a good acoustic/hollow/semi bass that sounds good in more than just a couple applications as well as being very comfortable to play). Godin is a SUPER underrated company. "built in canada" is not an insult.

      It is a really nice company, I guess. I actually own a Shifter Bass, which is strung with flats, it sounds really cool and its construction is great. I would love to try out an A4/A5 fretless with flatwound strings and a mute. I think it would get as close to an upright as you can provably can with an acoustic. Best way to use this bass without gutting and replumbing the whole thing...find the right pass caps you like and hardwire em in. I'm sure you should be able to wire the electronics to get an "all-three" sound, but you'd lose your middle P position, so you may need a custom switch for that.
    This thing has lots of tone, can't imagine what a 5-stringer would be like with this configuration and 24 frets.
    And here's position 4 *meow~*

      Strat guys will add a switch/push-pull pot that turns on the neck pickup. You can keep all the standard 5way switching and add neck and bridge or all three pickup combos

    • @kirtfulcher6288
      @kirtfulcher6288 3 роки тому +3

      at 24 frets you'd have to push back the neck pup a bit... As to the full pup selection, you could take away the 5-way switch and add 2 blend pots, the first pot takes the Neck and Mid pups and that feeds the second blend along with the bridge. Might be hard to visualize but you could dial a blend of all three pups in any combination...

    I have an old (no idea how old, but may be 60s or 70s, no newer than 80s) one-off unbranded bass that I repaired and modded, I gave it 3 P bass pickups, each just with a volume knob, but no tone knob as for me P bass pickups are dark already. As I can dial out whichever I want to a variable extent. Even if I consider only 3 options for each pickup: off, around 50%, full on, I have some 19 options:
    3 x only 1 full on
    3 x only 1 off, other 2 full on
    6 x only 1 off, other 2 on but 1 of them held back to around 50%
    1 x all 3 full on
    3 x all 3 on, 1 held back to 50%
    3 x all 3 on, only 1 full on but the other 2 on 50%
    That's about all the tonal variety I may want.

Off the top of the dome a passive can do much more than expected given the current state of tech, over 60 years and electronics wise it's been stagnant for the most part.

      Great question BP! I usually post after I've filmed or released a review. Keepers are usually determined by how much I like them and how rare they are. I take both factors into account. The U5 is a perfect example, stellar instrument that I greatly enjoyed but I could just snag another one if I wanted to. Red spector is a sweet bass as well (review already filmed, got a new EMG from EMG which greatly reduced the noise.) but I am much more partial to my Eurobolt. I also am totally running out of space and need to make room for the stuff coming in (there's a lot haha).

    Hrmm... an interesting idea that doesn't really interest me very much. I do like the bridge+middle sound and I'd bet good money that the bridge+neck combo would be very usable as well.
    In the guitar world, most of my strats are wired with either a blender put or a neck on/Gilmour mini toggle. Either of these allow the bridge and neck combo as well as all three. I rarely use all three pickups at the same time but the bridge+neck combo gets lots of use.
    The biggest oversight for me is the lack of the properly finished nut. I bought a B stock Squier Bullet Tele for $119 last year and the nut was basically perfectly finished. For an instrument at nearly 10 times that proce, a sloppy nut is inexcusable.
    I can look past fret sprout, though o don't love it but who know how long the bass was in shipping containers/warehouse/trucks... but the nut issue is due to poor craftsmanship, not storage.

  • @Muzikman127
    @Muzikman127 Рік тому

    It's basically in a strat's wiring, so you could relatively easily add the common strat mod of a push/pull that adds the neck pickup to all positions (which makes position 1 into bridge and neck, and 2 into all together). I would have thought the most interesting combination for this pickup combo in a bass would be bridge + neck, which is unfortunately missing here the way they've wired it.
    Seems kind of lazy and poorly thought out to just stick in a strat 5 way and call it a day, I agree with you that independent volumes would have been nice. There's all kinds of logical and intuitive/useful ways you could set up a control scheme for this bass, and the way they've done it isn't one of them
