I'd love to hear your take on the tbird! I've played quite a few of them, but the one I bought in 2010 is the only one I played I really liked, and I absolutely love it, it's my main squeeze.
This bass is worth every penny you spend on it. I got the pink one three days ago, it's my first Squier and it did not disappoint me at all. This bass is worth it for the back pickup. The shell pink looks great. Plays great too.
I get the feeling that these Rascal pickups are gonna be the sort of thing that people in fifty years times are going to be trying to track down, kinda like how everyone's all over those old Gold Foil guitar pickups from the 50s.
This bass reminds me of sonic youth and that’s how I’m using it. Also try and change the pots to a full size cts it brings it to life a bit more. I’ve already modded mine to a push/pull volume/tone and a kill switch. It’s a noise making rocking machine! Love it!
@@57precision no readings on the Chinese pots to be honest I believe 250k I replaced mine with 250k CTS I pots split coil so down is just a volume and up is the tone. I barely use the tone on this but options are always good. I also replace the jack the cheap Chinese ones tend to fail after awhile. I may try 500k to brighten things up a bit later just to see what happens also got a 8mm kill switch where the tone pot was.
Great review! I've been wanting Squier to reissue the Starcaster, but everyone has been hyping these Rascals up so I might need to snag one myself. Also 2:09 was my favorite part of the video XD
But yes, they need to bring back the Starcaster. I’m still kicking myself all the time for not buying one back in 2018 for $600 when I had the chance. That truly was the one that got away.
Yup: the bridge pick-up is killer, absolutely non-traditional Fender. This is a LONG bass -the short scale for players who don't want to be seen playing a short scale(!) I am an old fart traditional player and I am digging this big-time; can't wait to play this with my blues rock guitar friend. This is now being offered with a red finish on the Fender/Squire site. BTW: thank you for playing classic licks for tone reference.
This is the best short scale bass on the market. I say this without pause. Fender flat out made a classic bass with this Squire. They can just keep putting out new color variations and maybe even do a Fender CuNiFe version of it. But it's awesome. Bought it as soon as it came out (I have it in green).
Props to Lobster and Bully!! What a thoughtful gift! All you guys are doing with these demo videos is increasing my GAS intensity for this one. Still not sure if I like the shell pink or the sparkle greenish one Lobster has better?!
The pink is very light. It almost comes across as white in some of the photos I’ve done. The green seems much bolder. Not sure if that helps your decision or not, but thanks for watching all the same!
I played one at the store and went back the next week for it. 3 good sounds in one comfortable instrument. For mud bucker expertise see Jack Bruce, Cream and Tony Williams Lifetime, and Felix Papallardi, Mountain. Also, Mike Watt, both EB3 and Fender Tele bass.
I bought the shell pink and it arrived today. Almost perfectly in tune out of the box. Setup is decent too. Great bass for my stumpy little guitarists fingers. The tones are excellent and no hum from the neighbours airconditioner.
I recently got one of these in the green finish, really happy with the quality and think its an awesome bass! My one only gripe is that its a smidge dark sounding, particularly when running DI straight from my pedalboard. I'm gonna upgrade the electronics to some full size, 500k pots and hopefully thatll clear it up a little 🙌
Definitely a really cool bass and you did a great job hitting the highlights on the different tones. The ergonomics with having the right hand scrunched up forward are a deal breaker for me, sadly. Glad it works for you though!
I love your channel man. I just bought this bass cuz I watch the lobster and bully the kid now you … I have 5 basses but I had to buy this one! God knows when fender will stop making these, they could even go up on price. I checked a few stores and they are all sold out! I had to order online, let’s hope it will arrive soon now!
I’ve got Sherwood Green one on order,I’m super excited,I’ve always wanted a T Bird but just hate the ergonomics of them and the price,The Rascals are very hard to get hold of here in the UK though.so nice of Lobster and Bully to get that to you 👏👏❤️
Not the rascal. But I picked up a squire jazz that blows the two fender MIM jazz basses I've owned previously. Not sure what's going on over at fender. But they better get it together because rn squire is eating their lunch 😊
Hey man thanks for your review and I thought it was well done and worthwhile. Good comparison to Gibson. I will be on the lookout for you in the future.🤙✌️👊
Sweetwater just had these go on sale for $349 I had a 10% discount so I ended up paying $314. Mine is the Sherwood green which is an absolutely beautiful color. I had no issues at all with mine that played perfectly right out of the box I just had to do a couple minor adjustments it was good to go. It is a cool sounding bass guitar. It's not really Fendery and it's not really like a Gibby it has it's own personality which is a good one.
I would say that the Rascal sounds much better than the Thunderbird, the T-Bird sounded to me quite nasal in comparison, while the Rascal has the old "mudbucker" sound, not unlike the 70's Tele basses, the Gibson EB-0/1/3s or the 70's Guild basses with the "sludgebucker" pickups. I usually tend to like more that kind of sound than the typical thin, nasal sound of more modern basses or even the classic P-Bass kind of sound, that's why i have an older Squier VM Precision TB, that is basically a 70's Telecaster bass reissue and i love it, with flatwounds or tapewounds, it sounds very upright-like. So i guess that this one would sound very similar with that kind of strings.
Hot damn that sounds great…if I hadn’t already snagged an Epiphone Embassy to scratch this particular itch…Seems like this is the no-brainer choice for this sorta vibe.
Great sounding bass for the money. I dig this whole new paranormal series. Just holding out till they do a Performer, Musiclander or (god forbid) Katana...
@ampthebassplayer You noted, as other have, playing low on the bridge due to it being positioned relatively high up on the body. Does that result in the string tension feeling more like a standard bass than other short scales, such the Mustang?
I intend to get one of these, simply because unless I go high end US made, I can’t get a 21st fret. Not that I’m above buying another Warmoth neck, but still…why if I don’t have to?
@@ampthebassplayer is that a Gibson or Epiphone? I found the Epiphones I've had to be much less pleasant to play. If it is a Gibson, you'll really dislike the Epiphones in my opinion
Do we want a full video of the T Bird before I get rid of it?
Yes definitely 👍🏻

I bought that exact bass (Pink). Absolutely love it!
Love that Bass! Gorgeous in Shell Pink!
I get that same thing in my head sometimes bud, this is a great video by the way.
Off to try one today, best video yet

Where did you get yours from? I’ve been looking for a pink version but can’t find one online.
@@jackdavies8317 From Fender directly. Its a web exclusive in Australia and was cheaper than the green & black thanks to their year end discount.
I wanted one when I first saw the green one - but now I want the pink one! 👍🏽
I subscribed just because u said you’re tired of asking.. just ordered my pink Rascal last night!
God, I gotta get my hands on this at some point. What an interesting and good sounding bass.

really interested in this one. I especially like it in the sherwood green. may consider selling my Peavy axcelerator to pick this up.

Your the first one I've seen pluck the neck pickup....... naturally the hand goes toward the bridge pickup....... tempted to get one.... 800 CAD.
Damn, i would happily play some vulfpeck songs with only that bridge pickup

The Embassy would definitely have been my second choice and I was seriously considering it before I got the Rascal.

GAS intensifies…
Did, our newport has the weird phase issue?
Happy Birthday there dude guy. I'm thinkin of getting the green one!
Thanks! I think the green looks great!

Fingers crossed for a Performer!
A Squier Branded, MIJ Performer? Cmon, Fender, TAKE MY MONEY!
Yes to all of those
I'm thinking about getting one in Sherwood green.
What is the name of the song @ 5:57 ? Great video thanks
@ampthebassplayer You noted, as other have, playing low on the bridge due to it being positioned relatively high up on the body. Does that result in the string tension feeling more like a standard bass than other short scales, such the Mustang?
It feels like a standard scale as far as tension goes to me, but that could be string gauge as much as it is scale length.
I intend to get one of these, simply because unless I go high end US made, I can’t get a 21st fret. Not that I’m above buying another Warmoth neck, but still…why if I don’t have to?
Fender. Showing Gibson how it's done since 1946.👍
great tone!!!!
Thank you for playing bass lines instead of sounding like a guitar player forced to review a bass. Now I've gotta get one of these.........
Didnt click on this to hear you talk. Lol you get it👍👍
0:13 What is the name of the song?
The Chain By Fleetwood Mac
Now I'm wondering how this baby would sound like with Joyo double thruster and monomyth
Might have to do a livestream where we try out a bunch of stuff in real time.
How did you get a pink one. I need a pink one sell it to me
Between this and the Epiphone EB-3 which one would you recommend? (I mostly play black metal and Metallica stuff)
I’d say neither. A Jazz bass would be better for those styles of music.
@@ampthebassplayer I thought more about it and I decided I'd buy a B.C. Rich Warlock One (Chinese entry model) and replace the pickup with an EMG GZR
Yo is that a Serek in the background?
Lol I'm literally watching this video to try to decide whether or not I should trade my Thunderbird in for one of these
🤘🏼
I'd agree it is more Gibson sounding, but that t bird slays it pound for pound, in my opinion. Think an EB is a much more fair comparison
I’ll agree that it sounds cool, but it almost doesn’t matter when it’s such an annoyance to play.
@@ampthebassplayer is that a Gibson or Epiphone? I found the Epiphones I've had to be much less pleasant to play. If it is a Gibson, you'll really dislike the Epiphones in my opinion
It’s an Epiphone, but rest assured I’ve been just as disappointed by Gibsons.
Got it yesterday, can’t put it down, help! 😅
You’re on your own! 😉
what's the bassline played at 4:37? i know i know it, it's right there, but every time i reach for the words they get further away.
That bass line is from “Would?” by Alice In Chains
Anyone know the complete track listing?
I'm sure this Chinese-made Squier has way, way better QC than any Gibson out of Nashville these days.
Fleetwood Mac in the beginning?
yes the chain
T bird sounds way better though. More Growl and clarity.
whats the first line he played? so familiar
oh its fleetwood mac
Nice. Perfect for beginner's 1st bass. Great tones.
What a privilege it would be to have this as your first bass!
Yeah saying this is a "beginner's bass" is a slap in the bass... i mean face 😅
A wild taco has appeared. Wut?🤔
Taco is the name of my dog.
Flats?!
I might sell my Thunderbird to get one.....hmmmmmm
Not short scale , medium scale
Medium is 32-35 this is 30 inches
@@gupster24 I own on and I’ll tell you string through body only medium scale strings fit
You will miss the T-bird I bet you buy another one 😂😂
Doubt
extreme doubt, the damn thing is a hog
That streaky laurel fretboard looks hideous, but the bass itself sounds great

Nothing says I'M CHEAP! Like embossing Square on the pickup covers.
That's a deal breaker for me.
