    I'm a building supervisor for a special ed school and just demo'd a similar machine this week. It took 5 min to convince my principal to buy the machine (county will supply the pads, but the schools have to pay for the machine. No chemical odor (a BIG selling point for my building), no slipping and sliding, takes a fraction of the time, etc. I was blown away when our equipment guy showed it to us. I'm actually excited for next summer to come so I can do my whole building with this.

    This is the method that I keep trying to drill into the head of my lead custodian!! I’ve been a custodian for seven years and know a thing or two about floors and my lead custodian was hired off the street with no school custodian experience, and thinks that wet stripping is the only way to go!
    I’m glad to see that you are a fan of this method too Mr. Jeff !!

    • @mrjeffthecustodian

    I work at a church and I'm all by myself and I get the temptation, see all the equipment to do the floors and the striper liquid they have, but now the way you showed the dry striping, looks a lot easier, might have to watch your video a few more time to get the real aspect of it, but it seem a lot less difficult then using the striper👍,oh and the step by step technique, got to love it ,thx.

      Yesterday I cleaned out a bottom level of the church witch they call the freedom hall,anyway in the corner of it like a 15'×20' they had some stuff stored like speakers chairs , keyboards and TVs, I don't know how long they been there but all were pretty dusty and who ever been waxing that floor, it shows they just went around that spot but as I moved everything on the title is like rust and Scuf marks don't know what it's from ,but that 3M pad will lift that up out of the title? Just asking.

    • @mrjeffthecustodian
      @mrjeffthecustodian  Рік тому

      Depending on how deep in to the wax the rust is. Also depends on if rust is in pours of the tile. I had rust so bad it. A floor that even floor stripper would not take it all up. It’s really a trial and error type thing. Oh one more thing it depends if the rust has been waxed over. I do recommend a good wet stripping if it’s really bad. Then you can go to the 3m way from that point on. Hope that makes since.

    great video, i don't know how well dry stripping would be at the school i work at, the floors do get abused pretty bad even though we do have a floor tech that keeps up with it, have heard of dry strip but we butt heads with the boss on that haha same situation with us butting head and refusing micro fiber flat mop

    "Whatever you've done, they're gonna mess it up." That's the truth.
    I think the pour wax and spread it with a flat mop method is just fine. I've done whole rooms like that and it generally works well. A little more fussy than the backpack, but still good.

      3 coats is usually enough of wax for one school year. You don’t want to get a wax build up. Wax build up will make your floors harder to strip. New tile that has never had wax before you can put on 5 coats the first time.

Every system is different. I can say this it’s the easiest job I have ever had. Being I use to be a concrete finisher for 18 years.

  • @wlms04

    The square scrub stripping method is very good as long as you make sure you have lots of down pressure and an aggressive pad. I like microfiber flat mops because they are easier to not get wax on the baseboards. Speaking of baseboards - if you guys don’t use any wet stripper, how do you get wax buildup off of baseboards? Do you use a can of baseboard stripper?

    • @mrjeffthecustodian

    • @mrjeffthecustodian
      @mrjeffthecustodian  5 років тому +1

      It saves money in the long run. What you spend on stripper is very expensive. A box of pad cost the same as two buckets of stripper. The box of pads covers thousands of square footage. Yes some folk just are not up for change. I’m not getting any younger so I’m up for easier.

      You can use these machines with a different pad and stripper.They do strip a floor. If a floor has ten coats of dirty wax buildup then yes you need stripper. If the floor is clean then this works great. They actually remove one half coat per single pass. Square scrub UA-cam video demonstrated this.

  • @mrnickelschool8173
    @mrnickelschool8173 3 роки тому

    you should always wet strip floors every 2 years.. those 3M pads are junk
    you are still waxing over waxing that is dirty... just wet your floors with a low ratio of stripper and its a peace of cake no need for the water or anything to run down the steps

    • @mrjeffthecustodian
      @mrjeffthecustodian  3 роки тому +1

      I disagree our floors are in better shape now. We have not wet stripped in years.
