It now broadcast in many countries with their own national television channels around the world too and is filmed in the same very place for each version of them. The fort Boyard is a former military base back from the 19th century and has served as a watchtower against British forces before being turned into a prison for some time. It’s situated off the west coast of France in the Charente Maritime department. The local authorities have probably allowed it to be used for financial purposes to restore and maintain it and for the benefit of tourism in the region. It’s why you can see a lot of other sightseeing places during the closing credits… Actually USA used to have their own version on ABC (1991) and Disney (2011).
Fort Boyard was a true fort on the sea, protecting the french naval port of La Rochellle and preventing the british to approach the french atlantic coast, and it has also been a jail in certain occasion...
I think the patreon directed you towards the wrong video. a more interesting thing for you to discover would be actual parts of the show. not just the opening/closing credits... also, I really wouldn't qualify the weather program as "popular"... so sorry about that. although I'll always get the chills when hearing the "fort boyard" theme. that's my childhood. and adulthood. the fort is real, and it's standing tall and proud on the coast of Oleron island (which is an island on the west coast of france. and yes I am absolutely in love with both the place and the show). you should react to it some day! (please do, please do, please do...) (and you're right, it's a good place to put prisonners. which is why it was used for this exact purpose at some point. it was conceived as a military fort, but never used as such, then used as a prison, and then kind of abandonned, until a French tv game creator named Jacques Antoine fell in love with the place, bought it, restore it, and created the tv show. )

Just 4 minutes here and I don't understand the point of the video you're reacting to. Only those you know about those old programs can maybe enjoy that video, if they remember what it was about.
Albeit that those were probably popular, but not the best, imo! But do you think our friend could react to "Bouillon de Culture" (RIP, Bernard Pivot), "Des Racines et des Ailes" or "Thalassa"?

Bonjours, le jeu tv que tu a vu chez ta tante c'est "des chiffres et des lettres". P.S: je te laisse traduire tu est plus doué en français que moi en anglais 😁 you know
Unfortunately, these TV shows are decades old. French TV today is as bad as American TV, I suppose, with lots of stupid reality shows, coaching shows for idiots and pseudo-talk shows whose objective is to create clashes and scandals . I don't know the history of American television, but that of French television is particular: until the mid-80s, French television was exclusively public, and even quite controlled at the beginning by the government with a certain censorship. But it was seen at the time as a media intended to democratize culture and knowledge, with even until the 1980s broadcast slots reserved for “school” television broadcast in schools (but this never really worked). The first “privatizations” at the end of the 1980s were very controlled, the specifications of private broadcasters were very restrictive. And then little by little, the private sector abandoned the vocation of democratizing culture and knowledge in favor of cheap and flashy programs to increase audiences and therefore attract advertisers (classic capitalist logic). The first to do so was the Italian billionaire Berlusconi who bought the 5th channel. The 4th (Canal+) was paid and largely encrypted for non-subscribers. It was mainly focused on sport and humor (in the 90s, the comedians of this channel were the best known), with one particularity; it was streaming porn. Today, this channel has been bought by a conservative billionaire, the equivalent of Murdoch who owns Fox News, and only broadcasts programs promoting reactionary values and calling for hatred. In 2000, there was a huge scandal with the broadcast of the first confined reality TV show (Loft Story) by 6th channel (which was previously a channel specializing in music and clips, a sort of MTV). And since then, it's been a decline... The French particularity is that there remains a series of public channels (the 2nd, the 3rd, the 5th - after the ouster of Berlusconi - and ARTE, the 8th, a Franco-German public channel) which maintain a strong audience and which are free of advertising after 8 p.m. Most of the TV shows shown in the video come from these public channels.
