"The smell of death surrounds you" it's a song covering the addiction that was rampant in the band at this time...those were some great years back then....Rock ON!
I have watched almost all of your reactions and you are certainly at the top of my list for the most enjoyable to watch. Your discovery of new music is wonderful. I know how much you enjoy guitar work and solos in the rock genre you have discovered, like David Gilmour, Jimmy Page, etc. I have a suggestion for you - please do a reaction to The Outlaws playing Green Grass and High Tides. It has some of the most epic guitar parts in any song ever written.
Thank you so much! Green grass I actually do know due to hearing that on a gane my bruva used to play and ita like a 20 min solo that got faster and faster! Its deffo good maybe I need to revisit!
Haha yes! So good. Sitting here smoking a blunt this comes up. It was fate. Lol. So many good tunes from them. Can't go wrong. Ballad of Curtis Lowe is a great one on a chill vibe. Gimme back my bullets. I ain't the one. Sweet home Alabama probably their biggest hit. Needle and the spoon. Gimme three steps lol. List goes on. Seeing them live was special too. The music literally takes over your body
@Clayton Paul HELL YES! Thank you for mentioning Gimme Back My Bullets (HD version) & I Ain't The One. @BrainSqueezeReactions ... Truly underrated tunes by Lynyrd Skynyrd. 🎶💥💥💥🎶
@gigatess5123 love gimme back my bullets, another generally misunderstood tune, or maybe the whole thing is a double entendre lol. The bullets they wanted were the top ten or whatever radio play listings or something like that haha
This is a piece of history. The band was in rough shape; drugs and alcohol getting out of control. Gary Rossington drunkenly crashed his new car into a tree, upsetting the tour scheduled. The song addresses all that. The plane crash that killed Ronnie, and Steve and Cassie Gaines, caused weird feelings about the album. The original cover shows the band standing in flames. That and "the smell of death surrounds you" was creepy, ominous even. It was a strange time.
Very late here. My brother-in-law was a roady for them and was on the plane. He survived. Took his settlement, partied it away. He couldnt handle surviving.
Bring it on!!! Mark, you're just scratching the surface of Lynyrd Skynyrd, and it's a joy to see you experience the music of my generation. Skynyrd is DEEP!
This was written wen one of the guitarist wrapped his new car around a tree and almost died..the smell is the smell of death..one of my fav tracks, new u would love it...so many great ones though
This was a great flash back. I saw them at one of the "days on the green" concerts at Oakland Coliseum back in the late 70's. I can remember driving around Calif in my orange with black striped 1970 1/2 Camaro Z28 RS with the windows down on a sunny weekend day blaring this from my Jensen 6x9 speaker's. Good times!
Southern Rock of the early 1970s 1. Lynyrd Skynyrd! 2. The Allman Brothers 3. The Marshall Tucker Band 4. ZZ Top I’d recommend for just one song of the other three “Midnight Rider” ~The Allman Brothers “Can’t You See” ~The Marshall Tucker Band “La Grange”~ ZZ Top
You are a true sept-decadian. All of the last 7 decades of music run through you like a River. Originally, I thought that you were born in the wrong decade, but I now understand that you love it all.
So the back up singer's were called the honkettes and if you really listen there are 3 lead guitar s being played. Gary Rossington , Allen Collins and Steve Gaines.
parties back then ALWAYS played call me the breeze at high volume!!! it will give you the flavor of weekends in the 70's =ROCKIN do the original studio-call me the breeze
Was never into southern rock (prog was my scene), but Lynard Skynard (and The Allman Brothers Band) was something special. Their musicianship was great, and the production quality top of the heap. Brilliant stuff, Mark!
If you like Skynyrd so much you will also dig the Allman Brothers Band. You will definitely want to check out “Whipping Post”, “One Way Out”, “Melissa”… they have many amazing tunes.
@Clayton Paul oh you're right lol.. my bad. midnight rambler from rolling stones is however a fine alternative for a reaction, so the rubbish could have been worse =]
Hector! Buddy! Mate! First of all, nothing but love for you and the channel. Second of all, Lynyrd Skynyrd deep cut. No one I have seen has reacted to it. Ain't No Good Life! Such a great hidden gem of a song. Please!!!!!!!
This song comes from the album Street Survivors,,,it was the last album before the plane crash! The last track on that album is a blues masterpiece called Aint No Good Life,,,i think you will love it Hector!
Now they call you Prince Charming can't speak a word when you're full of the ludes . Sounds like Gary Rossington was having a little problem and The birth of this song came along .
"The smell of death surrounds you" ....three days after this album was released their plane crashed and killed 3 members 🥺🥺 Amazing band, Amazing song!!!
I've just stumbled upon your channel. Love it! So refreshing. Love your energy bro. Can't wait til you get to the Steely Dan and Doobie Brothers rabbit holes!
Man I love how you feel every fine aspect of this song. The guitar chemistry of both lead guitar is crazy. If you want to hear probably one of the best sounding guitar track ever produced please react to The Outlaws - Green Grass and High Tides. It has like 5 different guitars and its just madness and not choatic but just the atmosphere and the harmony is something from another galaxy. Also its a tribute mostly to Lynyrd Skynyrd but also to other southern rock bands. PLEASE DO A REACTION
😍❤🔥❤🔥 yeah we felt it. Music was made to be felt, not just heard, not aural wallpaper. You get it. You would have fit right in Hector wish you'd been there. We had fabulous, joyous parties where the music never ended.
First time here. I enjoyed your reaction. I saw them in the mid-70s. We wore red or blue plaid shirts then. Their song "Needle and the Spoon" was also a warning about hard drug use. It hit home, as I saw many good people succumb to heroin then.
Another awesome reaction!! It's great to see someone listen to this music & love it just as much as those who have been listening to it most or all of their lives. Thank you!! I have 2 suggestions for you, Metallica's Master of Puppets & Godsmack's Crying Like a Bitch. I believe you'll love em both.
Another great Southern Rock song. It is a anti-drug song. Try Linkin Park - Given Up; with a scream that will make your soul hurt. Linkin Park - In The End; a bend of rap and rock. Also Linkin Park / Jay Z Numb Encore.
Love Skynyrd. My favorite. So many great songs.Hopefully you will react to T for Texas live from the Convention Hall in 1977.They have a guitar solo battle and a piano solo. It’s the best version of that song and one of their best performances of any song
I'm sure you'll be getting little pieces of history as we go along. The original singer and other band mates died in a plane crash. After time the lead singers brother took the reins and have been doing southern rock ever since. They were the Van Zant boys.
Yes yes yes! 💜💜💜 And yes a little less coffee lol. Breathe Hector! That intro put me out of breath 🤣🤣🤣 The song is very anti drug-alcohol. " the smell of death's around you".🔥🔥🔥
I would imagine on the timelines freddy was probably listening to jeff lynne on the radio when he was in the travelling wilburys and ELO early tracks..who knows eh!
The background singers are called the "Honkettes!" A name coined by Ronnie as a tongue-in-cheek response to white people having the nickname as "honkeys" back in the late 60's and early 70's. Ronnie not only did NOT take offense to the nickname but he also found humor in it and decided to honor it when he came up with the name for the 3 lovely background singers!
I must be hallucinating. I thought you were off UA-cam. And said my goodbyes. But glad to see you back. Oh that smell. Panama Red Thai stick Acapulco Gold And cheap ass commercial. But what we had was bag weed grown in the holler. I've been country my whole life. Grew up on a ranch, I'm on a ranch, (2) I'll die on a Ranch. 💨
lol... ok, I like you. Yep.. I love your animation. I havent had this much fun watching a reaction in ... damn.. lol been a while. haha you make me feel good. I'll be checking out your channel.
I'd like to suggest a song...in the vein of this - about addictions/drug abuse - Rock & Roll Junkie ( written about Paul Kossof ( drummer for Free) by Herman Brood & His Wild Romance
Have to say you cheer me up. Another couple for you to try. Seal & Jeff Beck (RIP) ua-cam.com/video/DqmrGgrYssE/v-deo.html Traffic ua-cam.com/video/9bQR-Pce7Q0/v-deo.html
Hello Mark, I think it’s time for a dive into classic Aerosmith. In addition to the well known songs like Dream On, Walk this Way and Sweet Emotion, I suggest Nobody’s Fault, No More No More, Milk Cow Blues and One Way Street. Love your videos👍.
Love some Skynard! However, if guitar soloing is something you enjoy, try taking a listen to the legendary Rory Gallagher. Rory was a force of nature on stage and his skills are admired by the likes of Slash, Brian May, Alex Lifeson, the Edge, Joe Bonamassa and the list goes on. Take a listen to the very cool "Call8ng Card" at the Hammersmith Odeon 1977. Amazing!
Hate to break to you because I feel you didn't catch the rest of the lyrics, "that Smell" is not just about the smoke if green stuff, it actually refers to the Smell of Death (that's around you) from going deep into addictions.

One of the best songs ever fucking wrote !!!

I have one of those rare flame original albums...you'd have to kill me to make me part with it.
Very late here. My brother-in-law was a roady for them and was on the plane. He survived. Took his settlement, partied it away. He couldnt handle surviving.
Bring it on!!!

Southern Rock of the early 1970s
1. Lynyrd Skynyrd!
2. The Allman Brothers
3. The Marshall Tucker Band
4. ZZ Top
I’d recommend for just one song of the other three
“Midnight Rider” ~The Allman Brothers
“Can’t You See” ~The Marshall Tucker Band
“La Grange”~ ZZ Top
You are a true sept-decadian. All of the last 7 decades of music run through you like a River. Originally, I thought that you were born in the wrong decade, but I now understand that you love it all.
Gimme back my bullets needs to be on your list along with the ballot of Curtis lowe
Love them southern boys!🎸🎸🎸
This song is the perfect example of double lead guitar at its best.
Thought your brain was gonna explode on that one!! 🤯🤣👍
A great track from Lynyrd Skynyrd! It’s interestingly awesome! Thanks so much for sharing your reaction and it’s a like and thumbs up.😄👍#lynyrdskynyrd
Feel fortunate to have grown up with the boys from the bars to world fame. I was crushed by the way it ended. Y’all had the world in your hands!
The smell of death surrounds you! Great song.
So the back up singer's were called the honkettes and if you really listen there are 3 lead guitar s being played. Gary Rossington , Allen Collins and Steve Gaines.

This is my shit. Been listening to em all my life. Seen em live 4 or 5 times. I'm from the south, and this takes me home.
Got the Remastered STREET SURVIVORS CD,EXCELLENT!!!!!!!!!
Yeah, this a fcking great song!!
One of The BEST southern rock songs is “I Know a Little” from the Street Survivors album. It is fucking perfection!
Call Me The Breeze (studio version) should be next.
Was never into southern rock (prog was my scene), but Lynard Skynard (and The Allman Brothers Band) was something special. Their musicianship was great, and the production quality top of the heap. Brilliant stuff, Mark!
Another great reaction, Mark! This one really hits hard. Grabs you from the very start and never lets go. I knew you'd love it :)
Probably my favourite of theirs. The backing vocals are particularly tasteful.
Omggggg this is the one of the best tracks! Loving this journal. Go Hector!!!!❤
If you like Skynyrd so much you will also dig the Allman Brothers Band. You will definitely want to check out “Whipping Post”, “One Way Out”, “Melissa”… they have many amazing tunes.
Second this. In memory of Elizabeth Reed for me! Lol

Midnight rambler!!

Lynyrd Skynyrd is one of the best bands EVER. Please do Rainbow STARGAZER, Ted Nugent STRANGLEHOLD and Rush 2112
Definitely Stranglehold -- it's amazing. I'd also suggest Do You Feel Like I Do by Peter Frampton and Can You See by Marshall Tucker Band.
@Lori Johnston I was trying to come up with some great songs for Mark that are a little bit longer. He always looks so sad when they're over.
three essential pieces!!! Rainbow "Stargazer", Ted Nugent,"Stranglehold",and Rush "2112" I completely agree 🔥
I will add Grand Funk Railroad Inside Looking Out 1969🔥
@@neillenet291 Stranglehold is definitely good then, as well as Do You Feel Like I Do off Frampton Comes Alive.

"The smell of death surrounds you"
from constant drug and alcohol abuse.
Every time I hear this track it takes me straight to that scene with Johnny Depp getting high as a kite before his daughter is born lol classic
Hiya Hector! Iconic song!

Hector, time to pleasure yourself to some Triumph, "Fight The Good Fight" live at the US Festival 1983. One of the great bands.

The “Smell Of Death”
