It's a real treat to hear an intellectual music lover like yourself, hear the intricasies and talent level (missing today) that went into writing in the 70's! So so glad I came up with the music of the 60's & 70's!!!
Some of the best guitar music you'll ever hear. Rossington, Collins, Gaines, & King. They all complimented each other so well, especially the 3 guitar attack of Collins, Rossington, & Gaines. All world class guitar players. Gaines was a freak of nature man, excellent player. I'd give anything to play like any one of those guys. I love this band! Unfortunately one of the biggest tragedies the music industry has ever known.
I enjoyed your critique of the song "That Smell". I graduated from high school in 1976 and southern. I agree with you whole heartedly about the transition music has taken. I like your idea that the music of the 60s & 70s was a renaissance period. I am fully aware of the greatness of that period when compared to the last 20 years. I do not have any idea how it happened that new generations did not follow in the footsteps of some of the greatest artist ever recorded. I often wondered how my generation would be remembered. I have to say that I am not disappointed. It was a pleasure listening to your educated analysis.
That Smell was a not so subtle shot at one of the guitar players in the band. Gary Rossington had crashed his car while intoxicated and caused the band to delay their tour. Ronnie Van Zant ran that band with an iron fist and you didn't challenge him
Thoroughly enjoyed this reaction to action, its totally chill how you collectively break it down cover all the angles with an open mind, & bring out good observations RVZ was a poet & prophet that seemed to have the ability to influence so many oftenly taking a dire situation and putting a positive spin with their stories /music. The timing the chemistry the messages they were saying , the badass guitar army (that alone is a feat in itself sometimes to orchestrate,w/ attitudes egos etc) thanks for the great review of a great band that has impacted so many, then, now and in the future 🌴⚾👣🎤🎸🎸🎸🎸🎹🥁🎶📀💰🤘🐊 Rock on ✌️🐾🌴jf
Love, on the hunt. A band i played in YEARS ago, I put this in our set. It was the only song I sang as the guitarist. 3 man band. Our bass player did the singing.
Really enjoyed your view and comments on these songs,. This group has so many songs, albums with Not one single bad song on them, I was in high school in the seventies and this group and the Eagles were just directing our lives. Music was the breath of life, it moved us in directions and impacted our entire life. Thanks for relating 👍👍
I love the point you made of how they went from one world to another. That Smell was my anthem while in my first months of getting clean. 18 years later I relapsed several times, now 14 years straight , I still get as moved by it as ever. THATS good art, it timeless. I have always and always will led a bohemian lifestyle. Now its a lot more rewarding without being numbed by drugs and alcohol. I may be old, but Im still on the hunt, even though its been the same girl I hunt everytime for the last 28 years, lol. Every word of "That Smell" is 100% true. Im glad that I heard the nmessage before its to late, many wont. Bohemianism is a great life to lead, but its about self expression, not self destruction, and thats all drugs and alcohol will do to a person. Dance with the devil, he will lead everytime.....
If you arrived at this analogy after hearing "On the Hunt" only once, then you are a genius. On the other hand, if you listened to it repeatedly before giving a very compelling explanation of the song, you did an excellent job.
“Just one more fix lord, might do the trick. One hell of a way for you to get your kicks.” Such a good lyric and so true. I just wanted to say that I love your reactions. You really listen and break the songs down and seriously listen to them. Thank you for doing this. This is a great channel.
Check out their song “I Need You” before the month is up please ♥️ I would love to see your reaction to Skynyrd’s live album “One More From The Road” sometime. It is considered by many to be the best live album ever!! It was recorded at The Fox Theater in July of 1976 over a 3-day period. It is absolutely top notch!! You gotta hear it. They do a cover or “Crossroads” by “Cream” that I feel is as good or better than the original 👌🏼 Thanks for your interest in my Favorite Band 😉♥️
On the Hunt. It's that groove that won't let you go. You could be on fire, but you're going to wait until the song is over before looking for a fire extinguisher.
One of my favorite southern rock bands it's a dang shame that they are no longer with us after the 1977 plane crash in a Mississippi swamp. I remember reading guitarist Allen Collins sticking his head out of the place looking around and saying where are the gators
I remember learning to play On the Hunt on guitar a carton of Marlboros a case of beer my Les Paul and Amp the joy of finally getting it was worth the blisters on my fingers. Still one of my favorite guitar songs.
Great music from a great band and the songs are from real life experiences, and as being one that grew up in the same time here in Florida, well i found myself in alot of the very same situations as they sang about, i survived until now by the grace of God while my friends all dead family all dead, it was a hard life but it wasa good life and alot of fun.
STB, single, double, triple or quad makes no difference. ALL of your reactions are GREAT, better than anyone out there. As far as a " renaissance, resurgence" whatever you want to call it....FORGET ABOUT IT! There are good rock bands out there that tell awesome stories but they got their chops from the era you're covering now. It can't get any better then the 60's and 70's, if it did, we couldn't handle it!
Like James T said below. Ronnie did aim this at Gary who had crashed yet another muscle car while blitzed ,causng headaches . He also was however talking to himself & the rest of the band & crew ,& the fans as well I think. One of the freakier things about the song is the fact that 3 days after it was released , their Convair 240 aircraft crashed , actually hitting an oak tree that shattered the vessel and the passengers . Most of the forest was all pine . They probably would have been ok if not for that big oak tree.
Great analysis for On The Hunt, which, for me, is 1 of the best rock tunes ever, & my Skynyrd fave alongside Free Bird...so swampy, so deep, so real...
"And they call you prince charming, cant speak a word when your full of ludes"(qualudes). 1 of the 3 guitar players named Gary Rossington was nick named prince charming. Gary had taken a handful of qualudes and drinking bourbon and smoking weed and hit that oak tree. The same weekend, one of the other founding guitar players, the late, great Allen Collins who co wrote the song and did a lot of the great guitar solos in it had a worse wreck where he was drunk and high and passed out, hit two parked cars, sailed across a big parking lot and took out a few more cars. The band had 3 big shows coming up that had to be postponed. Ronnie put all on notice that this behavior stopped then and now and ronnie himself cut his drinking almost off, swore off coke and started getting in shape. The upcoming 1977 tour ronnie felt would be huge and wanted EVERYONE in top form. He hired his childhood best friend Gene Odom (a friend of mine also and i ran his skynyrd web site for 6 years) was hired by ronnie for chief of security and keep folks out of car wrecks and bar fights and to much drug and drink. The irony of this song? The guy Ronnie Van Zant pointed up in That Smell, gary rossington (prince charming) is the ONLY original skynyrd member still alive today!! Thank you so much for featuring americas greatest band. A note on Ronnie: he had a photographic memory and NEVER wrote any lyrics down. Also performed barefoot as he ssid "i love to feel that stage burn".
That my favorite aspect of On the Hunt, the lyrics are raw, straightforward, no bs, and I think that any real man or woman can totally relate to it... plus that main riff is just so wicked.
Please listen to free bird at knebworth live and I grew up with these guy's Ronnie wrote this about Gary his guitar player all his songs are true stories
Surprising there is resurgence in rock and roll today. The bands that been pushing the creativity and originality are highly suspect, greta van fleet, and royal blood. You will be amazed on how talented they are.
Back in 88 my friend got a candy apple red brand new mustang GT and a few days later after being intoxicated on cocaine and alcohol and marijuana he ran it into an oak tree the biggest 1 in the country.. And the 1 he drove by every day multiple times. He survived but I always sing the song to him
And yes dude this is the first time I've seen you and yes this is good music and the stuff from the early 70's and myself am drawn to the stuff music from the 60's blues rock from the 60's. Love it I can't get enough ,nice to meet you!
I SOOO hear you and FEEL you at 24:00 talking about the bands. I grew up in the 70's and I remember, there were so many great bands, people of many ethnic backgrounds were making and writing some great music. I'm STILL a fan of the Commodores, Kool and the Gang, The Brothers Johnson etc, as well as the Bee Gees, Skynyrd even bands like Pablo Cruz and of course the Eagles. Bands were better then...it's just the truth.
Yes Skynyrd wrote some of the best songs out there. I do like the other bands that came out of Jacksonville Florida but to me Skynyrd started it all. Y'all take care
And what's incredible is they say that ronnie van zant never wrote anything down. And to the that's incredible when you are writing especialy. Rip those gone too soon.
Rossington or Collins wrapped his new car around oak tree after nite of drugs and alcohol. That's what song written about. He trying warn anyone that will hear
Damn . I have been wanting to see your LS reactions . You have soo many vids I didn't bother looking . I guess the stupid "algo" ain't so dumb after all .
WHEN YOU DO FREEBIRD: Do the version on skynyrds epic Live album from 1976, One More Fom The Road. Allen Collins who wrote the song plays ALL of the original guitar solo and it is a ferocious cut!! They faded freebird off on the 1st album for time constraints but allen plays it all on this cut. Still the same tune but PLAY THE ONE MORE FROM THE ROAD version of freebird in 1976. Dont do the studio version off the 1st record!!
At a time and I do mean any time that I'm scrolling around I see somebody reacting to a Lynyrd Skynyrd song always always everyday ever time smash that like button come on now all right all right okay now you can't go wrong with Skynyrd just pick a song play it but I've Four Walls of Raiford for walls Brother come on
Alan Collins was in a automobile accident where his girlfriend died and he was paralyzed😅 he later died from complications due to being paralyzed he cannot play guitar anymore and Ronnie predicted his own death told his father he wouldn't live to see 30 and he didn't if it ain't God warning you I don't know what is
Somebody needs to do a breakdown some of my notes to breakdown of 4 walls, 4 Wal LA S4 walls of Rayford R AF O. R. D. Yes, I will argue that's the song Leonard's gunner. H, it's vital Skinner. It's just toe paper. Ronnie, and I'm gonna go from 38 special Jeff. Carlo on adobo, allright the 4 miles arrived for it.
It's a real treat to hear an intellectual music lover like yourself, hear the intricasies and talent level (missing today) that went into writing in the 70's! So so glad I came up with the music of the 60's & 70's!!!
Me too man
"Can't speak a word when you're full of Ludes!!!!" Remember the 714's brothers and sisters??
Brother Gary
I thought I was the only one that thought that way, 70s Isley brothers climbing up the ladder, music good time to be living
Ed King was better than all. Except Allen and Gary Together
"Whiskey bottles, brand new car, oak tree in my way" best opening line for a song.
The warning was to Gary Rossington, one of the Guitars players in Skynyrd. He happens to be the only one still living from the original band
He's the only one living that's in the band those artibus still alive or around right Artimus the drum player from way back
Hammond Gary they've got into yeah they can't stand each other I don't really know I've heard both sides a little bit too but I really don't know the
Ronnie never wrote any thing down, a great American poet, luv ya

Knowing it was about him, I've often wondered what went through Gary's head when they played this.

I totally agree with music in 60’s and 70’s. It was the best! I was in my 20’s and right in the middle of it!
On the hunt is my favorite of their songs and its because exactly why you described. Right to the point.
I love the point you made of how they went from one world to another. That Smell was my anthem while in my first months of getting clean. 18 years later I relapsed several times, now 14 years straight , I still get as moved by it as ever. THATS good art, it timeless. Thanks for all the great content . You are the "Mack" of all reaction Bro's !!!
“Just one more fix lord, might do the trick. One hell of a way for you to get your kicks.” Such a good lyric and so true. I just wanted to say that I love your reactions. You really listen and break the songs down and seriously listen to them. Thank you for doing this. This is a great channel.
Just a great song-by a great band. Love RVZ voice and story in this guitar heaven made up bed. Killer guitars, killer vocals. RIP.....

R I P. Gary rossington 🙏 you will be missed but never forgotten
You heard it on Forrest Gump when Jenny was strung out and had reached rock bottom.
On the Hunt. It's that groove that won't let you go. You could be on fire, but you're going to wait until the song is over before looking for a fire extinguisher.
You are the coolest person on UA-cam that does reviews on music keep up the good work by the way Lynyrd Skynyrd is my favorite band of all time
Thanks! Will do!
Two things you take with pride, your horse and your woman because both of them you ride. Classic!
Almost all their songs tell a story.
Great intelligent reaction.
Wayne, here's another nugget for you. Ronnie Van Zant had told his father numerous times that he would never make 30.
He told the band the same thing on several occasions.
One of my favorite southern rock bands it's a dang shame that they are no longer with us after the 1977 plane crash in a Mississippi swamp. I remember reading guitarist Allen Collins sticking his head out of the place looking around and saying where are the gators

Loved the smirk when he said a horse and a woman both of them you ride. Great reaction.

On the Hunt has always been my favorite Skynyrd song - great pick to deep dive into, man! Cheers!
Before the month is over check out their song “I Need You” ♥️♥️
Great analysis for On The Hunt, which, for me, is 1 of the best rock tunes ever, & my Skynyrd fave alongside Free Bird...so swampy, so deep, so real...
That's a pretty good double shot to choose for Skynyrd. Triple shot throw in Write About It and you got a helluva good dose of the boys.
Of all the reactions I've herd on this song they all were looking in to deep for meaning you certainly got it right. "a warning"
Soul train bro seems like a cool brotha. Keep up the good work!
"And they call you prince charming, cant speak a word when your full of ludes"(qualudes). 1 of the 3 guitar players named Gary Rossington was nick named prince charming. Needle and the spoon, that song was so relevant, my youngest brother died that way.
That my favorite aspect of On the Hunt, the lyrics are raw, straightforward, no bs, and I think that any real man or woman can totally relate to it... plus that main riff is just so wicked.
GOAT RIP. LS FOREVER 6:30
2 best LS jams hands down.
I love you Brother
If you like his voice you should have heard him sing it live at Winterland. Totally badass!!!
I saw them about a month before winterland.I heard

Soul train you are truly VIP.Spot on with your insight of all music.
Please listen to free bird at knebworth live and I grew up with these guy's Ronnie wrote this about Gary his guitar player all his songs are true stories

Your spot on and a very smart guy with your break down of those 2 songs thanks your awesome
Thanks for listening

It's blues, aka black man's music 🔥🔥🔥
And yes dude this is the first time I've seen you and yes this is good music and the stuff from the early 70's and myself am drawn to the stuff music from the 60's blues rock from the 60's. Love it I can't get enough ,nice to meet you!
Southern rock is from the soul's of that and specifically, real life situations.
Along the same lines you should react to "the ballad of Curtis Lowe" and "The needle and the spoon" Both songs tell vivid stories.
Good advice from his daddy :)

Great reaction man!I'm a hit subscribe, keep my eye out for some Tool-the Pot,Molly Hatchet-Dreams an ol song frm Allman Bros.
Dude, that Hatchet cover of Dreams is one of my favorite songs ever!!!!
The lyrics in That Smell are daunting
Ain't no time for games for a Southern Man!
Yes Skynyrd wrote some of the best songs out there. I do like the other bands that came out of Jacksonville Florida but to me Skynyrd started it all. Y'all take care
It's s freaking banger bro!
C.O.C. Version is kick ass as well!
The DIXIEWITCH version
2 good ones....
This was in 60's and 70's when people were overdosing and dying on heroine and LSD. I never shot up but some people I knew did. That smell of death
A brave move for 1977.. anti drug.. during the 80s drugs was everywhere.. We'd say woo wow THAT SMELL😢
Ronnies dad Lacy spoke of his sons death and said..."God was a jealous god. Taking him for reasons I don't know."
I love your true that reaction, young Sir. Keep on. Please check out Statesboro Blues an Whipping Post by the Allman Brothers Band. Thank you.
Done them both
Check out needle in the spoon or Saturday night special both by Lynyrd Skynyrd
Damn . I have been wanting to see your LS reactions . You have soo many vids I didn't bother looking . I guess the stupid "algo" ain't so dumb after all .

I was at a keg party the night of the plane crash , ruined the party evryone sat around and cried.
Ronnie had said that he wouldn't live to be 30. He was 29.

Oak tree in his way was a car crash … “brand new car.. oak tree your in my way”
Alan Collins was in a automobile accident where his girlfriend died and he was paralyzed😅 he later died from complications due to being paralyzed he cannot play guitar anymore and Ronnie predicted his own death told his father he wouldn't live to see 30 and he didn't if it ain't God warning you I don't know what is
Its from the heart and soul, lynyrd skynyrd is the best
The Masters of Southern Rock and so much more! Some great advice Pops lol. Thanks bro!
Searching searching, that's the song. The lab version by leonard scattered the song is called searching
Ami losing? Am I losing? That's the name of the song. Am I losing one and scanner does it
