    3:28 the placement of the chainring on inside or outside will depend on how the chain line is on the crank, it might change with other hub, cranks, or size of square taper BB some have wide axles, some have narrow axles. Make it so it is as straight as possible in the mid cog on the cassette and still works great without making noises on the in the lowest gear and the highest gear.

      @@WOLFTICKVIDEOS does the stock crankset work with the aftermarket chainring?

    • @WOLFTICKVIDEOS
      @WOLFTICKVIDEOS  4 роки тому

      No it does not. The reason is because you cannot take apart the chainrings and simply buy a spacer. Unfortunetly GT welds them all together to make it look like you can:( Maybe go for the IXF 1x?You can keep the same cassette and derailleur. Checkout the description link in the IXF crankset video.

      Hey man hopefully these links help. Now the front derailleur can be removed one of two ways. #1 you can buy a chainbreaker tool and break the chain and remove the derailleur and buy a chain quick connect to mend it. #2 you can take a drill and drill out the back of the rivet on the derailleur. You may wanna break the chain and go ahead and shorten it because you will have to anyways due to the chain being a tad bit too long. Dont have to break the chain right away but its a good just in caser. You can still ride with just drilling the rivet out and removing the front derilleur. I recently did the 1x8 conversion (cassette is 11-40t) but when I pedal backwards or apply some pressure I have jumps, specially on the 40t cog. 4:42 it won't stop chain drops even with narrow wide chainring, you need a chain guide, I recommend to get a bash guide, so it's a bash guard and chain guide in one.
    I use Absolute black, it has guide from 77designz.
    I have a review on it on my website.
    on rough terrain the chain will drop, even with a rear derailleur with a clutch it will drop, for example on stairs, of course the gear you have it in, the chagrining size, all play a role, but with 34T and chain in a low gear chain will drop on regular stairs angle, but on steep stairs it will definitely drop.
    I tested it with 42 T cassette and had it in 27t cog.

    • @WOLFTICKVIDEOS
      @WOLFTICKVIDEOS  4 роки тому

      Hey Keith if you have a drill or dremel tool, you can easily grind or drill out the rivet that connects the two pieces of metal on the front derailleur. No need to break the chain unless you want to shorten it.

  • @mtbboy1993
    @mtbboy1993 4 роки тому +1

    4:26 that is not what the bottle cage mount is for.😀
    I recommend to use a proper repair stand and clamp gently to the top tube, not too hard, cus some bikes have thin tubing there and some carbon bikes can snap.
    with a proper repair stand you can adjsut it to any angle and keep bike frame secure no matter the angle, and it won't move.

Did it still perform well with your stock setup on the rear? Was your chain falling off or still have a lot of chain slap? Asking because I also want to switch to the 1x but guys in my riding group are telling me that its going to mess with my chain timing and could cause other issues because a 1x system is normally used for 9x or 12x and NOT a 7x. Chainring- I like less, that is better for top end speed. I run an oval 30T and it seems to climb well and the speed is there. If you do a lot of climbing I would go with a 32 or 34. On fat tire bikes one by is the way to be, but on every other bike converting to a 1 by is moving backwards, definitely not forward. So I'm supposed to lose two sprockets in the front, so I can add three or four in the back, because this is going to save me weight, and make me go faster? I have a reputation to uphold, if I get smoked by the neighborhood children on their $100 Walmart BMX bikes, its just not a good look for me.

    Did you have to break the chain apart to get the front derailleur off? I'm doing the exact setup your doing and I was wondering if I need to buy a chain tool.

      Yes sir I had to buy a chain breaker and some quick connect deals. Not really a big job though quite easy, the hard part was waiting for stuff to come in lol 🙂 thanks for the question man appreciate you watching.

      Hey man actually come to think, I only broke the chain and added that quick connecter to shorten my chain about 4 links. So no you don't have to break to take the front chain rings off but I would recommend you break and shorten it. Does that make sense?

    3:59 sounds like something is wrong with thee hub on the rear wheel, might be freehub play, freehub mechanism that is about to fail, or worn bearings.
