Natural Material Smokehouse Build at a Bushcrafter Camp - How To Smoke Salmon & Red Meat In the Wild.. Ted Baird and I met up with Joe Robinet and trekked into the bush. There, we'd spend a night out in Joe's fort and smoke an Atlantic Salmon along with a nice cut of red meat. I've done this a few times before and this time we'd use bark peeled from dying Ash trees along with boughs to cover the smoker. We all pitched in to get it done with minimum time and enjoyed a breakfast of smoked salmon and jerky the next morning.
Thanks a lot for watching and please subscribe to my channel and check out Joe and Ted's channels too.

@@JimBairdAdventurer I have a 1990 Toyota 4Runner that gets out of this crappy town and out in the wilderness where I was raised to be!
I live the 90s 4Runners. I have an 06 that’s a beast. Love it
@@JimBairdAdventurer The 1990 4Runner was the only year that Toyota put the spare tire on a swing out hanger off the back tailgate! So easy to switch out a flat tire when I'm 4 wheeling!
You two make Joe's video's interesting. Makes his video's different. His friends now a days make the video. Thanks for sharing!
Thanks!
Very cool way to preserve fish and meat! I gotto try this. Awesome video guys. Thumbs up from Sweden!

Great video. Love hard wood smoking even on a campfire cooking type method.
Excellent smoker great content should be much more views. Really enjoyed.
Nice man, big thanks! Ya, I don’t know why this vid didn’t do better but maybe it was because we posted it during the peak of covid and there weren’t really any Advertisers in my realm. It can be hit and miss sometimes for sure. Glad to hear you enjoyed it though.
Here from Joe's. Subscribed. Thanks for the video. Well wishes on the healing of your hand.

Tri- pod - wrap around Twice all 3 legs, then take the middle leg an 360 it for a tight tri- pod. No wrap an frap needed.
That bark is great for serving, could also be a nice cutting board. Food looks very tempting.
It is fire sure 👍 thanks
Hey Jim y’all make people hungry 😋 and made it look easy , great video! 👍👍👍💯💯💯
Damn that meat looked so delicious there and I just finished a Chicken Lasagna.. Now I want some smoked Salmon, ate some a week ago or so..

Could smell it all the way here yum great job men👍 bought some of your stickers 👍
Sweet, thanks for your support and for watching
great video
Thanks
Looks really nice, might try to make a smoker just like that one at my place, in my backyard. Very inspirational, a smoker like the one you made can pretty much be a semi permanent devise.
Tell Joe, the Disco called, they want their pants back. lol. Aye .
Hahaha
Awesome vid Jim. Hope your hand heals up quickly for you. Stay safe and Keep livin the dream!!!!
The smoked salmon looked delicious. Now I want some for my dinner. Time to shopping.
You've all got such unique takes of the same trip! Love it, subbed!
Thanks, and great to have you here.
I learn so much from your channel, thank you.
No prob, thanks!
Hope your hand get better soon. Keep glowing with you cherry Blossom lol
Nice project, thanks for sharing it! Very well filmed and nice to watch.
Awesome video Jim! I really like it when you and Ted and now even Joe make videos from your own perspective! I'm really glad the cut on your hand was not life threatening! What would all of us fans do without the Giant Jim? Take care Brother! (I used to subscribe to your channel as Jax Daniels)
Nice, ya I remember Dax...thanks for watching and the hand injury was pretty brutal but far from the heart
@@JimBairdAdventurer, I have started to go back out bushcrafting because of your and Teds Videos! Stay safe Brother!
Hope the hand heals well Jim, I'm sure the wife has plenty of 'Honey do's' for you when it does (play on it for a bit) ;)
@Jim,
(jumped across from Joe's video to here)
I'm 6'9" tall and it's awesome to see that The Secret Tall Person Game exists on the other side of the world too (Sydney, Australia, here).
Your comment of it feels bad being the loser in the tall off is so true.
I've gotten so good at it that most of the time I don't need to stand up to see if I'm taller then the approaching tall person, it feels so harsh being taller then someone standing up and you haven't bothered.
Whilst this wasn't covered in your video butw as in Joe's I felt as one tall person to the other I needed to say how surprising it was to hear the game is played elsewhere (and yep, no one actually tells you it exists, it just happens, and only between tall people...although, admittedly, I do not know if dwarfs play the secret short person game, I've a mate whose a Dwarf, now I need to know!).
Great video mate,
Luke.
Lol, I imagine dwarfs don’t but it would be worth asking. I also imagine that at 6’9” you come out on top (no pun intended) in this game 99% of the time.
@@JimBairdAdventurer
I asked, I'm pretty sure I offended the little fellow. They don't play a secret short person game. Granted, I asked if they stand up tall and whoever is shortest wins so that probably had something to do with it, but he's also told me there is a lot of self esteem issues within the wider Dwarf community because whilst we get a load of crap for being tall, they get a whole load more and it's not like they can do the condescending pat on the head to laugh it all off and move on with life.
In terms of the secret tall person game, most of the time I do come out on top (and it feels awesome lol) and I've gotten good enough at it that sometimes I won't even bother because I can tell right away from a distance and this only makes you feel worse when you see the other person is starting to stand up to their height and you stroll past without adjustment and are taller still...heh.
I've lost a few times. There was a bloke that was 7'6" one time (had to ask the height couldn't let it pass) which was insane.
I'm a stable hand, looking after thoroughbred race horses, and whilst 95% of the industry is short people (jockeys or there about height wise) there was one bloke that was 6'10" tall. that was a bit frustrating being a single inch shorter in eye height, but it was refreshing to see what I look like around the horses and next to everyone else (because you just don't realise how big the difference is). As an aside, before working with the horses, I did slump down like most tall people, but walking horses for 7ish hours a day has worked wonders for my posture (but also means, I really have to remember ceiling fans exists - the wooden ones explode on contact by the way :p).
Here's something 6to play around with if you are out in a city or wherever really and you get one of those smart asses just being a douche and they want to know how tall you are not in a genuine or positive way but to throw back at you in some sort of negative way (I'm sure you've had this happen too, though maybe not as much as you are tall, but not smack your head on every doorway tall {missing out on so much man!} - when they ask your height, just quick fire back with a converted height. For example, I'm 4'33". At least half the time, you'll confuzzle them and some even exclaim how youc an't possibly be that tall as they are taller then that. Harmless fun. :)
Thanks for watching, please like this vid and subscribe to my channel, and check out Joe and Ted’s channels too which are linked in the video description.
Hmmmmmm I ASSUME there was A LOT OF EDITING. @Jim Baird, @Ted Baird and @Joe Robinet it's like the 3 Musketeers " Athos, Aramis and Joe have to be Brakenjan"
Have to admit the beef and salmon looked DELICIOUS... 🤠
There was lol
That is a nice pickup truck who does it belong to? A great video, I love it...Jim, you are a true outdoorsman.
Thanks a lot! Toyota lent it to me actually
I think this is the first time ever I have seen Joe Robinet lights the firewood with a lighter. 22:40
Awesome outing Jim! Ted did some serious heavy lifting out there but I always give a little more props to the cook cause I love to eat and it looked delicious! Thanks brother 🇨🇦. Doug
Thanks! Ted definitely did the majority of heavy lifting on this one.
good one Jim and the boys! That was really cool
Great video guys, always good info for anyone who needs it. Two thumbs up.
Thanks!
hope you get better JIM
Pretty awesome... I'd like to see the three of you do a long term wilderness survival expedition... Bet you would kill it...
That’s a great idea!
That fly at 31:06 got me twitching (headphones on)
The worst noise is that mosquito buzzz
It's great that you guys left the bark like that for Joe's ash hole. I know, shut up! :P
Hey, don’t be a smart Ash
@@JimBairdAdventurer H is 2 keys away from K, but I get it! :P
Lol, I tried (notice the edit)
I pray for you have a speedy recovery
And This Old Boy Learn Something lol ;)
👍
Yesssss 🙌❤️
Stellar as always. I get that this was a proof of concept, but the portion of meats/fish being smoked was pretty weak. I liked your portion in the Yukon video when you were still hungry after smashing a bunch of fish (and maybe pasta) and you questioned whether you have an eating disorder because you wanted more. I'm off to check out Ted and Joe's channels. At this point I think Ted and Jim are like a solid tag team wrestling duo. I guess like Demolition. Ax and Smash. In comes Joe, Crush, to help out the team.
Butchered on a bed of spruce bows. What a lucky fish. 😄
Lol, hey, you gotta eat right
ooh hand accident vid soon? staying tuned!
Good stuff!
Thanks 👍
So cool man!
Thanks!
hahah at 35:51 I told my wife she isn't allowed to watch this video!
Absolutely awesome team, so true 5000yr old methods work totally fine in the here and now, haven't been back to see if I've missed a video yet,,,, looks like a nasty ouchie on your paw son. Harts n health :-)
I was expecting to see you guys smoking your peace pipe in the teepee.. I was way off :/
Teepee smoker
Lol
Love seeing you guys together... When are you all going to see Shawn?
Thanks and we actually just got back from some time at Shawn’s!
@@JimBairdAdventurerAaa, that's lovely. I'll be looking out for all your videos then. How's your hand, I do hope it's getting much better. All the best.
48:22 Geese and ducks only Gaggle on the ground. Flock when in the air. 😂
You can have a gaggle of ducks?
u look like the “mountain” right nxt to joe 🤣
Great video Jim!! And GREAT job on editing out your heavy breathing, lol 😂
I did my best lol thanks a lot
Lot of work for one meal
That is very true haha. But now the smoker is ready every time we want to use it. Ideally you’d be smoking 10 times the amount of meat as we did here too.
Never realized how big of a guy Jim was until next to Joe 😂
Haha, ya I’m a pretty big guy I guess
13prevail posted one a month ago using basic lumber at his cabin
Cool, I actually know him personally.
hey joe dont loose your fire stater this time lmao
All that's needed is a bear or elk hide to cover the smoker..
Ted is a master at peeling ash bark, Doug L taught him well. Was that the first time you guys peeled ash trees at Shawn's.411 on your hand?
Ya, I think that was maybe a first for us all peeling it into sheets like that. My hand is getting better but my mobility isn’t there yet.
This way is pretty much just like the Sami people in northern scandinavia used to preserv their reindeer meat and fish but they did it in the same tipi as they slept in... Pretty hardy people. They really prefered to do it in late april and may, maybe first 2 weeks of june to beat the flies, prevent them from putting their larvaes in the meat, once dry and smoked (well smoked) the flies didnt touch the meat.Once it came available they could extend the season by putting a bag of mosquito screen around the meat. I am pretty sure the indians in Canada did it the same or similar way.
This is what the Avenki do in Siberia too... the way you are describing. How you are describing it is how Jordan Jonas did it on season 6 of the ALONE Show did it
Morning Jim, i was hoping to get your advice on a inflatable kayak for fishing. I live in a small apartment. The 2 that i hear are really good are the sea eagle 350fx and the agua glide blackfoot HB angler EL. If you have any knowledge of these 2? Or if you perfer a different inflatable kayak? Lake and river fishing. I love your channel.
Thanks a lot, I don’t have much experience when them but you may consider getting a folding kayak as opposed to an inflatable. They are good! Also, an inflatable pack raft might be a great option too. They’re light enough to pack in to backcountry lakes and rivers inna backpack but durable enough to run whitewater rapids. The one I have is the Kokopelli Nirvana. For mainly fishing, you wouldn’t need a self bailing one and you could get a spray skirt. The company ‘Pakboat’ makes awesome and ultra lightweight folding canoes that can handle rapids. My brother and I paddled one down the Kuujjua River on Victoria Island which is in the Canadian Arctic Archipelago.
@@JimBairdAdventurer thank you so much for taking the time to respond and sharing your knowledge with me. Peace brother!
I hope some of the beef and fish actually made it home to Tori. Hmmmm.
Great fun... What did you do to your hand Jim?!!
IS JOE THE LOG SKINNIER READY FOR THE LONG HOUSE ??
I might have constructed the smoker first. The flies, the bloody bandage, and heat of the day made me think I would have faked tasting the final product... :-)
42:24 lmfao
Great video, but u need to be careful with your hand xx
Joe is so little :)
I’m 6’5” 250lbs and my brother’s 6’1” 210lbs so maybe we make him look smaller than he is.
HOW MANY BUCKS DID TED PUT IN THE SWEAR JAR ???
I think that was me lol
Is that a BairdBrothers (BB) plate on the Toyota?
It is not but that would be cool lol
@@JimBairdAdventurer Thanks for great video's. Lockdown would not have been the same without them...! Cheers from South Africa!
29:03 Joe's plane?
Cricky, does Joe look like a tiny guy next to Jim... easy 70 lb and a foot of height difference!
I noticed Joe did not eat any Jerky, what up with that?
In what State is all this ?!
This is in Ontario, Canada
