As a business laptop this is a massive win for corporates. 400 to 250 dollars cheaper than MAC pro and X1 carbon. Super snappy and fit for office work. I dont think SW engineers or employees in general need a powerful GPU so i would not worry on that part.
true most devs don't need a powerful GPU, and any GPU will be way faster than a CPU using OpenCL so even the quite frankly mediocre one present in the SD is good enough to do GPU programming
Full InTune compat on Windows is a good thing. There might be some smartcard authentication issues if your smartcard device doesn't have an ARM driver.
I will I agree with the GPU part however I personally feel this might not be good for all SW engineers especially for service based company, many enterprise SDKs are not compiled for arm cpus, since sometimes development processes are performance critical those compatible layers for running x86_64 applications won't help much unless the cross platform development is involved which is totally dependent on those vendors which provide the SDK.
If your employer offers discounts for different retailers including Lenovo, it will give you another 400 dollars off which is how much I got it for, which I also think is the perfect price for this laptop. 1TB of storage and 32GB of ram and comes with a 3-year warranty, this should last for many many years. Battery life is just completely unmatched. I got mine two days ago and only just now as I'm writing this comment was the first time I charged it since I unboxed it. Ran a local video playback test and I can get an easy 30 hours out of it.
Something I’ve always wondered is why reviews of laptops always seem to comment on opening the lid with just one finger. Are there a lot of people in the world with missing fingers or with just one hand? Or is this some type of obsession in the United States? Here in the UK, I have two hands with 10 fingers and I’m quite happy to use both hands to open a laptop or a flip phone. I’m also happy to add both of my siblings have two hands and 10 fingers in total, as do my parents, and as did my grandparents. My wife also has two hands with 10 fingers and as far as I am aware, they all use both hands to eat their meals, drive their cars, and much much more. Please enlighten me about the one finger obsession. I don’t mean to be offensive but perhaps some people around the world, less fortunate countries, only have one hand or limited use of fingers. The ThinkPad T14s Gen 6 (Snapdragon X Elite) laptop from Lenovo is actually a pretty good business machine with lots of positive attributes. Obviously, it's not a perfect laptop by any means. There is no perfect laptop although some may come close to it. I thought the webcam, internal mics, speaker quality were all good. The battery life is excellent, nice array of ports, display is bright and the matte variety, it's got Wi-Fi 7 even though it's soldered in, and it's compact and lightweight to boot. The ongoing issue with these Snapdragon laptops is the compatibility issues you'll have with certain apps but if like Andrew states you stay to browsing the web, reading emails and such, you can pretty much avoid these issues from surfacing. In conclusion, it's a good business laptop at the end of the day which will probably not give you any issues. Great review once again Andrew!! 👍😁
Love the track pad, buttons, track point, and I ordered mine with 64GB of RAM. Great device and it even has a fingerprint reader. Nice upgrade from my X13s. No complaints here.
This appears to be one of the better snapdragon pcs. These snapdragon pcs are good as secondary units as there will always be compatability issues running various software and windows updates down the line. This pc has good camera and mics. Display Is good. Keyboard is above average. Upgradeability is good. Great quality review as always.
It's good, particulary the battery life, on the other hand I would like to see a full size m.2 ssd and at least one ram slot available to upgrade. It's not enough to replace my T14 gen2, nice video

I am really dissapointed in lenovo for not sodering on the the broadband card of offering it as an option. As of right now Dell Latitude 7455 is the only copilot+ laptop that offers the mobile broadband card.
Honestly, it's completely baffling that WWAN isn't a standard feature in 2024. Imagine we'd have to buy built-to-order machines to get our hands on Bluetooth and Wi-Fi. 🙈
Picked up the base model with 32GB RAM, 1200p display, and 256GB storage for about $1,100~ before tax using the pre-applied coupon and military ID. I'm very happy Lenovo has doubled the RAM by default and has a decent display to boot. I was very tempted by the OLED 120hz display but battery life longevity was my ultimate priority. Additionally a removable SSD will allow me to upgrade it for far cheaper than Lenovo charges on their site. I really only do basic browser and document work and some light gaming, so hopefully I won't run into many compatibility issues going to ARM. I think this will be a worthy upgrade from my T490s. I'll be going from roughly 2-3 hours of battery to nearly 23!
Amazing CPU, and most of the business apps work with ARM. However, the screen resolution is too bland for that level of CPU battery life. Should have been 1440p resolution.

Excellent video colors. Video sound -- somewhat saturated? FINALLY, a Thinkpad keyboard where they have fixed the location of the Ctrl key... (or have they done that before?). I used to love the red joystick, but at some point my finger started to get sore by using it, so not any more. Lots to like about the Snapdragon based PCs. I'm not a gamer, so GPU performance is probably ok. I assume running x86 applications in emulation mode might be equally fast as running them natively on my 12th gen intel i7 processor on my HP Elite Dragonfly. But to me, the "scary" thing with going for a Snapdragon based system is that I depend on a handful of applications that (currently) do not exist in native ARM versions.
For me once Ubuntu adapts the kernel to qualcomms ARM architecture this laptop is ultimate dev laptop for linux especially when you compare the price with macbook pro. Current macbook pro specs for especially LLMs is just joke 24gb ram versions go around 2400 euros. I am no even mentioning 36gb versions. If somebody is buying a laptop for development pls buy at least 32gb of RAM. And yes macbooks perfect memory swap won't help you if you will in few years run your own LLM on the laptop.

Boy boy boy, there's a lot of grown adults that whine about tech but I digress. It's unfortunate that Lenovo and other oems are not using the higher end models which for single thread or lightly threaded task boost 600 MHz to 900 MHz higher and that should be kept in mind when comparing to the Mac. Even though the Mac doesn't run Windows and the best thing about Windows is choice and software will improve.

Hate to burst people bubble, but if there are software compatibility concerns due to it being an ARM processor, then it NOT good for business. As a supervisor for a Help Desk with 10+ techs, I dissuade my client's from these machines. Various software, including the packages for our pharos printing system, do not work on these devices. Hard to do business around here for a lot of people if they are unable to print. And if you're just browsing the web and doing basic stuff, there's machines a lot cheaper that are capable of performing the same function.

In real world usage you will not see much of a difference between say 78-100 and 80-100. You do get the dual core boost but I wouldn't say its a big difference.

I wish that Lenovo would offer 3 displays on EVERY 14" thinkpad model. GOOD - 1920 x 1200, 300-350 nits, IPS, maybe 70% sRGB. Their 45% sRGB screens are GARBAGE. BETTER - 1920 x 1200, 400-500 nits, VA Panel?, maybe 120 Hz, maybe Touch (at least one of these two features) BEST - 2880 x 1800, 500 nits, 120-144 Hz, OLED, Touch
The biggest disappointment here is the trackpad. The physical click touch pads are now very old annoying tech that needs to die. Mac moved on years ago and the new Surface Laptops have fully haptic touchpads too. There is no reason to be having a trackpad with a physical click in 2024.

You gotta be really careful about verifying if your required applications will run on this. The software compatibility is a nightomare.

I wish that Lenovo would offer 3 displays on EVERY 14" thinkpad model.
GOOD - 1920 x 1200, 300-350 nits, IPS, maybe 70% sRGB. Their 45% sRGB screens are GARBAGE.
BETTER - 1920 x 1200, 400-500 nits, VA Panel?, maybe 120 Hz, maybe Touch (at least one of these two features)
BEST - 2880 x 1800, 500 nits, 120-144 Hz, OLED, Touch

The biggest disappointment here is the trackpad. The physical click touch pads are now very old annoying tech that needs to die. Mac moved on years ago and the new Surface Laptops have fully haptic touchpads too. There is no reason to be having a trackpad with a physical click in 2024.
you can get haptic touchpad in x1 carbon gen 12 if you want

I don't really like haptic touchpads, except on the HP Spectre and MacBooks. Dell's and Lenovo's, for example, are horrible with mushy feedback.
This thing is fantastic I personally use an external mouse.
