I once heard Tim Conway and Harvey Korman had a standing bet on the Carol Burnett show. $50 if the other guy made you laugh. Korman is said to have put Conway’s daughter through college.
The reason carol would not allow tim those elephant jokes on stage,(or at least that was the contention), was due to this 50 buck bet. Tim would always go home with his pockets full of 50 dollar bills!
I couldn't keep a straight face watching him on Carol Burnett, his skit's with Harvey Korman were what legends are made of and as Ens Parker ,as a kid watching the show I figured "hey if he can be an officer so can I" but reality differ's from fantasy he is an awesome actor and comedian. He is the ONLY comic I have ever laughed at and can't forget. I just started watching McHale's Navy after hearing that is where his career began. I was born in 1960 so I only knew him from Carol Burnett but still not well enough for being so young. I remember he started his own show but didn't find it as funny. I wanted it to be about him, not the dancers, etc. After his death I started watching his clips from Carol Burnett repeatedly. The old man is the best. And the Dentist is the funniest. Now I have just started watching the whole series of Mchale's Navy. I see he has always had it!!

When Tim Conway said that he was a natural athlete, believe him because he was in a movie where he was on roller skates the majority of the movie, and he was in very good shape. As others have said, he was underrated as a comedian! Thanks Tim for all of your brilliance and humor!
I hear Tim was a tumbler/gymnast when he was in high school. That would explain how he does some of those famous falls and stunts on Carol Burnett show. I’m listening to Tim Conway Jr. right now in Los Angeles.

Great interview, thanks! The bloopers I saw with Flynn swearing are pretty funny! Ernie at age 91 talking about his secret to a long life on a morning TV show just enriches the heritage (and both being voices on Spongebob). Hey, he was a sailor in real life!
One day I was a little bit down feeling kind of bad... So I turned on Ytube and watched a McHales Navy BW rerun... Ensign Parker was driving a jeep recklessly past Capt. Binghamtons Jeep.. Capt. B stood up in his jeep and yelled to Parker "Come back here !".. Ensign Parker put his jeep in reverse and inadvertently rammed Binghamtons jeep and Capt. B flew head over heels to the ground.... I busted out laughing.. I laughed my A off... Joe Flynn was too funny and with Tim Conway... Slapstick at it's best... I think I'll watch an episode right now....
Awww, so sorry to see he passed I've actually just been on a kick watching McHale's Navy the last couple weeks (I'm a slow watcher, I can't binge I have to savor it) Always loved him and everything he did. I had a bit of a McHales Navy kick about 3 yrs back when I saw a clip on here, and loved it and then went scounged around online and watched a bunch of the best of episodes. Just as enjoyable as it was when I was a kid.

IMO, the funniest man in comedy. I watched McHales Navy just to see Tim. It wasn't just his voice/script acting, it was his physical actions that made me laugh.
It's hard to agree with the idea that Tim Conway is underrated. Everyone who ever watched Carol Burnett's show knows how funny he was. Sadly, it's out of sight, out of mind with new generations not being introduced to his work as readily as they could be.
His favorite thing was to make Harvey Korman laugh as the Carol Burnett show was taped live. It was some of the greatest stuff! You can get it on DVD!!!

R.I.P. Mr. Conway. In the late 1960s, I got to tour Universal Studios (....I was 13 or 14 at the time )...and I remember the PT73 moored at the dock. I think the big river boat from the movie 'Showboat' was nearby. The strip of trees you see in the background.....on the far side of the lagoon.....was also used for some of the old Tarzan movies. Seeing George Kennedy in a couple of these shots, also reminds me that 'Airport' must have been in theaters that year. The tour tram took us thru a building that housed a cutaway of 1/2 of the big jet's fuselage. There was a promotional painting on the side of another large building celebrating the movie.....& our guide walked us into Dean Martin's dressing room. Back then, the tour lasted for hours, with many stops along the way.....to walk thru sets, and the guides explained HOW all of the stuff was done. I returned for a second time in the late 90s......but sadly, the tram tour lasted only about 30 minutes.....and the tour guide didn't know ANYTHING about film history. NO stops along the way either. I really wanted to rip the microphone away from him, and tell the other tourists what I remembered from 30 years earlier. They turned that place from a working studio, into nothing more than an amusement park.
