Let this be a reminder that the writers of this show wanted to appeal to a “broader audience” when they already had a massive, tightly knit player base to appeal to.

Dude, this tightly knit player base is way bigger than the broader audience. We have taken this franchise from Halo 1 to infinite. The head count is already there, we already have brand loyalty just by having halo on the name of the show. The Writers of the show are at best flawed for the 1-dimension personality of Kwan Ha, the disappointment of Master Cheeks’ behavior and the random human girl who was part of the covenant. This is just a generic sci-fi action movie that honestly wanted to have Halo as it’s name.

We need an animated battle between these two. It would start with them walking toward each other, Master Cheeks would stupidly remove his helmet in order to say something and Master Chief would immediately punch his face in.
What I like in that scene is Sgt. Johnson saying to Chief, "I thought you were going to wear something nice." And there's Chief in his helmet and armor, entirely unlike Cheeks. Good thing, too, because before they can get to the speeches, the Covenant attacks, and Chief has a job to do.
What a novel idea. Hopefully some talented people see this comment and take it to heart. Would love to see like, a Halo series or something. Maybe one day.
Funny how this walking action figure with fewer than 20 voicelines managed to feel a lot more relatable and inspiring than Master Cheeks, an actual human actor who is paid to act like a human being would, whilst reading from a script written by people who are supposed to earn money by writing.

I think the only problem with me about the halo series is when he takes off his helmet, because one, it’s super high tech and I’m sure that the helmet alone cost a destroyer class, but master chief rarely takes it off, only if he knows the battle is over, not every damn second
They actually made it an interesting character trait in the games, even though Chief barely said anything, he would always have his helmet on when everyone else didn't because he never really thought the battle was over.

Here's my rant. The original Halo trilogy story was never character driven, it was setting driven; "where are you?" and "what are you doing?" were the two primordial questions that drove the entire trilogy's story. As with all stories, characters had a level of development, relationships, dialogue, etc. But these things were never the focus of the games, they were secondary and tertiary elements. "Where" and "what" is what made Halo so successful, it's what enabled the games to rely heavily on beautiful landscapes and ridiculously gorgeous music. As the player you were never tasked with learning about who Johnson was, or Keyes, or Miranda, or Lord Hood. Not even Cortana or the Chief, characters were secondary to the experience. Bungie themselves found some backlash with the introduction of the Arbiter, for the most part it turned out to be successful, but not enough for that experience to be repeated in Halo 3. 343i completely ignored the formula when they made Halo 4, this is why from Halo 4 and forth it doesn't feel like Halo, it doesn't have what made Halo so big, so successful. In consequence, the series has no reason to be any good; it doesn't have anything that made the original games good, not even the music. It infuriates me that people don't get this. Some may like Halo 4, many like Halo Infinite, and it would be absurd for me to claim they are bad games; I think they are great games, but they are terrible Halo games. Take a look at the best levels of each original game; Silent Cartographer, Delta Halo, The Covenant; what do they have in common? Absurdly well designed levels, beautiful landscapes, music to die for, vehicle action, on foot action, they have everything that makes Halo what it should be. Now take a look at Halo 4, 5 and Infinite; can you tell me, with a straight face, that any of the levels in those games even comes close to the aforementioned? Let's talk about the TV Show; it doesn't have anything that makes Halo what it is, it doesn't even have things that can be found in other franchises that make them good; it's generic, boring, bland, plain, it lacks grandiose and polish. Other than modern tech and cool graphics, nothing 343i and Microsoft have done with Halo since Reach has even come close. 343i and Microsoft took the Halo name and squandered it.
I agree and thank you for this. Bungie understood that character comes from the situation a person is thrown into and having them react genuinely. The 'where' and 'why', as you say, is how writers and designer bring forth the 'who' and 'what'. It's why it's more often that one has an idea for a narrative set of events, setting etc. Then develops characters for it because otherwise the characters don't fit into the setting. That's my perspective anyway.
The fact they changed things was *never* the issue. You have rules that makes halo what it is; you change too much of those rules, it becomes something else entirely - while this would still possibly piss of fans, that doesn't inheritably make it bad. It's bad because it breaks it's own damn rules.

Master Chief is literally THE "Strong SIlent" type guy, but Jimmy Rings for some reason became the annoying strong guy who has regular outbursts every now and then.

Literally every single emotional moment that Chief had across the games, books and comics, roll it all into one, and you get 20 seconds of Cheeks' outbursts. Taking a stoic character and making them lash out endlessly is heresy.

Make it so it turns out Master Cheeks was just a more advanced flash clone that was taking the spot of Master Chief, because he needed to recover after some insane battle. Chief comes back and Cheeks has a seizure like the rest of them. Also Kwan gets gunned down off screen and nobody hears about her or her planet ever again.

I don't think they fall short on Sonic, I genuinely enjoyed the movie and the Sonic characterization. And god the casting of Jim Carrey as Eggman was perfect, a fun villain that manages to be funny and cool in the same time. I never thought Hollywood will ever make a pure evil villain ever again but they did.

The problem with the people who directed this show didnt bother playing the games. That's the problem. How can somone make a tv show out of the worlds most popular franchise and not make it live up to how the characters are in the games? Imagine if the TV series followed Spartan II’s on missions. Like we could see more of Arthur, Solomon, Cal, Daisy, and Jorge. We could see Jorge BECOME the ‘Gentle Giant’. In Legends we hear Solomon say “I’ll take my chances” implying he has arrogance to an extent. Cal ONLY talks when she is forced to, her being the ‘Strong and Silent Type’, even more so than Chief. It could also give the novel characters some real exposure, like Naomi from the Kilo-Five books. Musa failed augmentation but kickstarted the Spartan IV program. These characters behave differently so it wouldn’t get boring. Overtime, we could see episodes from the perspective of the Marines or ODSTs to change it up a little. Hell, even an episode from the Covenant or Insurrectionist perspectives would be awesome.

What they tried to was make master chief into more human character in few episodes when we got that over years of games and books. The relationship between cheeks and cortana seems interesting but how it ended in last episode made me more pissed than anything. Lore Chief vs mister cheeks is not even competition. Your better off sending a Spartan IV to spare with chief. Scratch that send in an Ultra Elite to have an even remotely satisfying match to see.

The fact they changed things was *never* the issue. You have rules that makes halo what it is; you change too much of those rules, it becomes something else entirely - while this would still possibly piss of fans, that doesn't inheritably make it bad. It's bad because it breaks it's own damn rules.

Even if it didn’t have halo’s name the show would still be bad, like the acting is horrendous, it’s just another adaptation that failed horribly like every other adaptation/reboot/remake from the past 30 years.

Master Chief is literally THE "Strong SIlent" type guy, but Jimmy Rings for some reason became the annoying strong guy who has regular outbursts every now and then.
It takes an incredible amount of stupidity to ruin a character that has very minimal dialogue, wears a mask all the time, and has almost no chemistry with other characters.
No disrespect, but master chief is a reasonably simple character to portray.
And the fact the TV show screwed him up goes to show their incompetence.

My point is that it just goes to show the incompetence behind the studio for getting him wrong even though he’s simple to get across and there’s a lot of references on him. There’s no point getting mad at me for saying chief is a simple character. I don’t care how many posters you have of him on your walls.

The show has never made me appreciate the REAL Chief as much as after i watched it.
I would really love the show to end with master cheeks dying and Cortana is wiped away of their memory and taken to another spartan 117. Formally known as the original master chief.
Make it so it turns out Master Cheeks was just a more advanced flash clone that was taking the spot of Master Chief, because he needed to recover after some insane battle. Chief comes back and Cheeks has a seizure like the rest of them.
Also Kwan gets gunned down off screen and nobody hears about her or her planet ever again.

The Writers of this show can go to hell with their "We want to appeal to a broader audience" BS. The Halo Fanbase is millions strong. The videogames and books provide all the assistance needed to honor the canon Master Chief. FML

I don't think they fall short on Sonic, I genuinely enjoyed the movie and the Sonic characterization. And god the casting of Jim Carrey as Eggman was perfect, a fun villain that manages to be funny and cool in the same time. I never thought Hollywood will ever make a pure evil villain ever again but they did.

The problem with the people who directed this show didnt bother playing the games. That's the problem. How can somone make a tv show out of the worlds most popular franchise and not make it live up to how the characters are in the games? Imagine if the TV series followed Spartan II’s on missions. Like we could see more of Arthur, Solomon, Cal, Daisy, and Jorge. We could see Jorge BECOME the ‘Gentle Giant’. In Legends we hear Solomon say “I’ll take my chances” implying he has arrogance to an extent. Cal ONLY talks when she is forced to, her being the ‘Strong and Silent Type’, even more so than Chief. It could also give the novel characters some real exposure, like Naomi from the Kilo-Five books. Musa failed augmentation but kickstarted the Spartan IV program. These characters behave differently so it wouldn’t get boring. Overtime, we could see episodes from the perspective of the Marines or ODSTs to change it up a little. Hell, even an episode from the Covenant or Insurrectionist perspectives would be awesome.

What they tried to was make master chief into more human character in few episodes when we got that over years of games and books. The relationship between cheeks and cortana seems interesting but how it ended in last episode made me more pissed than anything. I liked how they made Halsey for sure, a lot less of a mother figure and just more cold and calculative.
