Another thing to consider (in my opinion) is "speed change." If you are always fast and always slow, your opponent will notice and play against you. However, changing the speed makes it much more unpredictable and easier to get past defenders.
I teach my kids the “clip the hip” method, where you’re aiming to bump the defender’s hip as you pass them to keep a tight angle to the rim. I also teach a modified swim move to throw the defender’s hand behind you as you start your drive. In other words, as you start your drive your off hand reaches out and swipes the defender’s hand on your driving side, pushing it down and behind you as you take your first step.
Totally agree with all the steps In this video, once done properly, even an average player can score each time down the floor with good habits and solid practice. Thank you coach
Thank you so much Conley! I really feel more confident in my skills as a player and I cannot wait to use these insane smart skills against my opponents!😉
Thank you so much, i am clearly the guy who doesn't drive at all. I go in a little then either pass or go for a jumper or try a 3 pointer. I will definitely improve my handling and dribbling first and then focus on all these points. Again thank you so much.
for me its energy, once i started eating high protein foods before my practices i was able to get by anybody, quick switches in speed and quick stops and direction turns just to tire the opponent out before either driving or shooting
@@kenleyreyes Varsity its a three day tryout but thr first day was pretty good it was more on the conditioning side which im good at so yea pretty easy
To your first point: kids these days watch the NBA - the NBA is all about a very wide, spread out floor where 5/5 players on the floor are shooters. They call every foul. They see so much space on TV that once they have to actually play in real games, they realize no one can shoot, and the paint gets packed and they aren't gonna get every foul call. Its not even that they're watching games they're watching full game highlights too. It's almost like watching WWE and then going to join a wrestling team thinking that that's how people wrestle and then they tap out in 5 seconds
@@CONLEYHOOPS for sure, can I ask for confidence advice ? Like I practiced all the pickups, low, high, tuck, euro, but for some reason I never drive in game, my coach really wants me to I just never do.
@@Bjay127 driving is a skill that takes work and focused work. It’s hard to all of sudden do it if you have never done it before. If I were you I would start with a lot of one on one and don’t settle for shots anywhere but at the rim. Go through contact and find a way to score. A lot of times we settle because it’s easy. It’s really the uncomfortable becoming comfortable that matters. Be clear on your goal and then consistently work on it until you love to attack the basket.
@@CONLEYHOOPS thank you. I did a good bit of finishing before with friends like on hip and hand off but that’s probably it. Since I’m on break I’m gonna get a lot of my friends together to scrimmage, and I’m gonna just keep driving. And do the 1v1 thing you said and I’ll keep driving. Thank you
Thank you sir, this video really helped me a lot but am still losing ball anytime I tried to drive with speed I always loose the ball even when pounding the ball hard
this is great video like honestly i took alot of tips but one thing i will say some of the things are harder to do like at class or parks where u cant count on getting a foul or the defender not wanting to be physical adn not fou;
Ya but driving is about confidence. And not being denied. It’s more about finding a way to succeed. The more you work on going downhill and not letting people stop you the easier it gets.
Hey thanks for reaching out. Hard to be specific without seeing you. But if these aren’t working. I’ll try to get some videos of some other methods for you! Be creative and work at finding opportunities.
yes. So many players rush. When I started working out. I always worked slow to fast So my footwork and eyes would keep up. I always wanted to see the space instead of being too fast.
Shot blockers love to time shots. So always attack the body and change rhythm. Also if a big is stronger and you get stuck, it’s the same thing. Changing pace and then getting into the body and then going away.
If all else fails just take three steps to the basket like Jalen Brunson did in this clip 🤷🏾♂️. That’ll do it all day baby, don’t worry about that travel babel. That rule Is so overrated if you ask me. They should let players take how many ever steps they may need to get the job done! Am I right!!! 🤦🏾♂️ 😂 like Rugby 🙌🏾👏🏾🤪!!!

True, also you can dribble high or low and shift your weight

Love that! Great tips. Teaching players to engage with defenders once they get angles is so important.

I love this. It is way different. It’s for entertainment. It really is a different game then you play at lower levels
Your completely right
if you're a big man then driving to the basket is easy regardless of what strategy you use unless you don't just big-body your defender
Being big and strong definitely can help. But it’s hard if multiple defenders come at you. Space is key. Reading is key. Appreciate the comment!

Never about speed it’s always control. And angles. Make sure you are practicing against contact when working out.

The advice I need is to score on more athletic player, can you give me tips please
My problem is I rush too much… gotta work on my pacing
yes. So many players rush. When I started working out. I always worked slow to fast So my footwork and eyes would keep up. I always wanted to see the space instead of being too fast.
Thx
No problem
Just cut and find a good angle practice that bois 👍🏻
Thanks for watching
When i drive my defender has a large wingspan and i get stuck or even a little bit of big body on me or even get blocked what do i do?
Shot blockers love to time shots. So always attack the body and change rhythm. Also if a big is stronger and you get stuck, it’s the same thing. Changing pace and then getting into the body and then going away.
"Get inside somebody"💀💀💀
If I have a quick strong and athletic short kid on me and I can’t possibly can’t get lower without falling what do I do?😢
Yes that makes it more difficult. The idea behind that is get space and use your length for shots. Always keep the ball high when finishing
@@CONLEYHOOPS ok

yeah in 6:00 I also like Curry's patience but he takes its a clear travel. Maybe the definition of taking three steps...Crazy

Wow thank you. Appreciate the interest
How to get a habbit of tight angles and off arm swipe
All of its practice. It just takes reps. You won’t be good at first. But the more you work on it the easier it gets
You just need a quick first step then turn the defender with slightl contact attacking their hips and stay low.
Brunson, Tj Mcconel, nash luka are not great athletes quick first step isn’t that needed
#6. Exploit the body contact
the more time the ball is in your hand the more control you have of it . hence pounding the rock
Yes, A lot of people think its about dribbling fast but most great ball handlers keep the ball in their hand more instead of dribbling more
I can do this while I’m playing 2k😭😂😂
Pound it hard 😂
3:05 no one talking about this🧐 like pause💀💀
I think I want Kyrie giving the tips here. Just saying lol

Why is Kyrie driving against the hulk 💀💀💀

funny the brunson clip he showed was a travel lol 3 steps
casually shows another curry travel later on

So true. Being a great shooter makes driving way easier. Appreciate the comment
Just floor it and you will drive over everyone
