    Great vid, I used to practice different dribbling combos, but when it was game time I resorted to "basic" moves because I was too tired in the middle of the game to pull off something fancy.

    • @themidrange
      @themidrange  2 місяці тому +16

      Thanks mate. Ya, being the main playmaker is a skill in its own, conditioning etc... but if you can practice individual skills or moves effectively at full speed, then you can replicate game pace and game speed fairly easy. Then slowly develop the extra moves etc...

    • @ZVYWMx
      @ZVYWMx Місяць тому

      The difference is your tired that should be your main goal the problem isn’t the move its players can’t read and react draw doubles and terrible iq in pick and rolls

    I trained for 3 years on getting the fundamentals right, 3pt shot, mid range, correct form ect ect now I'm leading my league in scoring by a lot. Just like mentioned, I do make some tough shots a couple times a game but the vast majority of scoring is catch and shoot jump shots and attacking close outs and finishing open layups and mid ranges. Advice in this video is 100% legit

    This guy is 100% right. I was never the play maker or had a deep bag so my peers never thought I was good but my coaches like that I was, like he said, very aggressive for rebounds and defense. This wound lead to the shots he’s talking about so I needed to be good at the put backs or getting a little closer to the basket not having a bag

    All of the greats are incredible in the midrange, elbow, pull ups etc aka the basics. As much as I dislike Carmelo Anthony overall as a player and personality, his style of offense made him one of the greatest scorers to ever live. All he ever did was jab steps, shot fakes, single dribble pulls and other middy moves. You don't have to be fancy, just efficient.

    Great, GREAT advice, brother. Love your game clips, too. I watched an AAU game for elite pkayers a few weeks ago and was astonished that all ten guys played exactly the same, three dribbles, drive to the bucket and kick to the next guy, who was a clone of the first guy, who repeated the exact same thing. People were not shot ready on the catch, dod not cut, and all took a negative step to drive. This is why the best players incthe world are coming from Europe now. Shooting and cutting and off ball movement are taught at a young age there and ball and personnel movement is emphasized.

    • @themidrange
      @themidrange  Місяць тому +2

      Completely agree. Coaching and playing overseas really taught me that there's a ton lacking over here in the states. We are great at creating 1 on 1 playmaker at an elite level, but Europe is great at creating overall skillsets with added fundamentals. You're right on.

I met an older woman who has a close family friend that’s an agent who can maybe get me in Italy or Greece, but I haven’t heard back from her since we have met so right now I’m just in limbo. Don’t have an agent. Don’t have anybody to go to I thought about just looking up ball clubs that I would like to play for and then trying to reach out to them. Do you think that’s a good idea?

Game of 13 I average 5-8 pts just by catch and shoot. catch and drive and move with hustle on defense. I play alot of team ball but when my team gives me more tocuhes on the ball I take that responsibility to give them one more pt or get someone else going. Smart basketball and play to Win

    LOL 70% that was the mark I set for my son at the beginning of the summer. He is playing up this season and playing eighth grade basketball but as good as he was at shooting threes last year in sixth grade basketball and 12u I told him he needed to get to 70%. We worked on proper footwork like 1-2 steps and hop step shots, using an anchor pivot foot and catching and stepping into the shot. We worked on worked on catching off the shuffle and opening up on a swing with a reverse pivot into a three. He got to 70% and we tested it every week and last game he went 4-6 from the three point line and then 1-2 from inside the arch. He caught low and forced a hard close out and then pulled up forfeit one dribble using the one two step and hit a contested 16-17 fter. He had 14 pts in the second quarter and blew the game wide open. Second half he didn’t look to score and had 14 for the game. Yeah I love your videos. We spent a year focused on good shooting form and he would make on average 1,500 shots a week with 2,500 during last spring break being his record for a week. He was scared he wouldn’t make AAU team in the spring lol. But yeah focus I. On basic one two steps getting good lift and a good follow through and then as he got better kept adding onto what he had already mastered. I played basketball back In The 90’s lol but I was good and it was all I did for fun. Played Highs hook and went to Juco to play and broke my ankle dropped out and did what I was really good at boxing. Well I train boxers now but when my 10 year old told me he wanted to train basketball I had to get back into and I started watching UA-cam clips to refresh my memory. We used very little of what I saw but it did refresh my memory from basketball camps and basketball coaches that I had. Then boxing was the training approach I used. Obviously different techniques and different drills but the same approach. Drill and master the most essential skills. Leverage what your fighter or in my case my son does best on the court (shooting) and build off that. Then Have a small part of practice where we are developing a new skill that we will be learning next. Usually the last 15-20. Inures after he finishes his current routine. Efficiency is the key to being great and fundamentals are where it is at.

    Great damn video!!! For the youngsters I'm going to say what you say here but emphasize hit open shots instead of 3 point shots, you are not wrong but I workout younger players so 3 is not in my vocab. because they are shooting these shots but really not working on the development of their whole game. I have to retool the youngsters I just picked up as clients because their habits are not good as they should be they will probably begin to hate me because I will not let them shoot 3's period mid range jump shots, 1 and 2 dribble pull ups. shots off screens, drive and stop pull ups but once they begin to see that I 'm really working on teaching them the fundamentals and they are able to just keep things simple and be effective they will appreciate what we have done but it takes some time to become fundamentally sound, once they turn that corner my goodness it'll be so good for them. Much appreciated mate. Ya ive got quite a few good shooting workouts I used myself over the years and in my coaching. I'll post them over the weeks as quickly as I can get them out. Until then, the simplest way is just a daily test (or as often as able) to shoot 10 in each spot mid range from 5 spots. Adding up to 50. If you do this everyday before your workouts it's a great warm up while also building reps. Then if time you can do it from 3s as well, overall 100 shots.

    How about one on one? Whats my key to success there? Wouldnt dribbling help get past my defender?

    • @themidrange
      @themidrange  Місяць тому

      Like in a game or one on one game? In a one on one game yes 100%. And even 5 on 5 I'm not saying beating your player isn't important, but if it takes multiple dribbles and moves you will likely have to also deal with help side and other defenders too. It can be done but hard to build an efficient play style that way.

    • @themidrange
      @themidrange  Місяць тому

      Are you able to dribble full speed right and full speed left? If so, being able to shoot, those three things alone should be enough to keep the defense off balance enough to see success.

My dribbles are good but idk how to improve them. like should i get more shifity or add to my bag?. im a good team player but i feel my dribbles have reached a some what plato. like my drives are perfect and i can get to the net but i want to add something to my dribbles if that makes sense. How can i improve them to the next level?. like do i get faster dribbles or add more moves?. i get what im asking is the opposite of what your saying what to do but please tell me what to do.

      What level are you playing at? 3/5 is still 6/10 so still pretty good from 3.
      For adding to your game, i think learning how to control the ball and get to your spots is more important than adding a move. I'll do a video on this and go more in depth, but basically where ever you are finding yourself often in a game, practice one move and one counter. It's far more beneficial than adding tons of dribble moves.

    • @themidrange
      @themidrange  Місяць тому

      It's really hard to play at a high level if you can't space the floor but not impossible. Have to be a master at another skill like I mentioned in the video. Best rebounder or best defender is a start. Can also just be a great team mate that is good at a bunch of other skills or intangibles , being a ball mover or defensive anchor.

    I have a question. How do you manage to do a shooting workout without a defender especially to develop as a 3PT shooter.

    • @themidrange
      @themidrange  Місяць тому +1

      I love just the simple basic spot shooting. If you have a shooting machine or can go use one at a facility it's ideal. You can do like 50 in a row etc... with the timer as fast as you can to practice quick release. I still believe the majority of shots should just be basic catch and shoot under control. The only real way to play efficiently from the 3 is understanding when you can take your time and shoot a high percentage shot. If you have to rush it then you should attack or pass and try to get open again. Passing up good shots for great shots.
      If you don't have a shooting machine, just toss the ball to yourself and catch and shoot, keeping it simple. I'll do a video soon on some of my favorite shooting drills since alot of people are asking.

    Hey I’m a High School Student with more year to go. What advice would you give me to be able to balance Basketball and School as I want to be successful both as a student and as an athlete / basketballer? Also my biggest problem is that it takes me almost 2 hours to get home and hoop as I live far from my school.

    • @themidrange
      @themidrange  Місяць тому +1

      Congrats, but ya that can be really tough. It might be worth sitting down and putting a plan together to get the most out of the time that you actually DO have access to a court. Maybe ballhandling 5 minutes per day regardless, can do some footwork or ladder or agility drills when you don't have a court, then on days you can get to a court really lock in your workout. Plan what you will be doing ahead of time. I think this also helps with balancing school work. Allotting an amount of time each day or week you're going to spend.

    • @themidrange
      @themidrange  Місяць тому +1

      I dont think height would change the way I would recommend playing. Obviously if you're taller there's more room for error and flexibility in your playstyle, if you're the smallest then I would say shooting is incredibly important.

    I disagree in order to get a d1 scholarship as a guard or forward you have to be the man on your High school team. You have to be the number one option with high usage rate. You should of clarified, The problem is when you get to the NBA, "THEN" you have to adjust your game to a certain role because you are not 6'10" like Durant with skills of a guard and are you are no longer a #1 option or even #2 or 3 option or even 4... You should never try to say handles are not important. They are more important than shooting because If you are short you are not even going to be able to get a shot off without handles. People will play up on you because they no you can't dribble. If you take away Trae Young's handles he would of never made it to the NBA

    • @themidrange
      @themidrange  Місяць тому +7

      This wasn't a video of how to become a d1 player, this was a video of what skills you need to work on first and foremost. Most players want to know "how to make the nba" but they should really be learning first "how to make open shots". There's a process and most kids are skipping the steps.
      In the video I also said there's nothing wrong with trying to be the man, but you gotta get on the team first.
      I believe we're on the same page though, maybe I didn't do a good enough job clarifying.

    no pffence but fu*k what this guy is saying, if youre good at basketball and its your dream, aim for the top and train like yourlife depends on it and never give up, if youre training to be a "rotational player first" then basketball is probably not your dream, go find a passion my boy or live a mediocre life, me personally im only decent at basketball so training like i want tobe lebron or kd would be stupid, but i have a different dream and i aim to be a star at it. no rando on youtube can tell me to stop trying to be "that guy" becuase its not statistically likely. work hard, aim high, and have good instincts. thats all the advice you need.

    • @themidrange
      @themidrange  Місяць тому +1

      Hmm, I think you contradicted yourself here and missed the entire point of my video.
      I addressed reasons why you and others are most likely not improving and are struggling to find the right skills to work on. If you're already doing that and seeing success you're probably not watching this video.
      Secondly, no where did I say don't train hard or don't aim for the stars. In fact, im giving you the exact blue print to get there. Lebron and kd are perfect examples of people that play exactly like this 90% of the time. Difference is they can ALSO break out of the play because of the other skills they've added but the majority of their game is incredibly efficient just like this video teaches.
      I hope you reach your basketball goals and continue to train hard. I was able to have an entire career from playing the game I love and have helped many others do the same. It's a beautiful game.
