I've had my S5 for about a month now and I still learned a LOT from this video. Thanks Matti. Looking forward to some S5 content
Thanks. More S5 content is coming😀
I bought this week.. where should i start
@@shribalaji1718 Read the manual and start taking pictures.
I just bought one of these and I'm really glad I watched this! Thank you.
Sir my hat's off to you! No one and I mean no one has explained this process as clearly as you have done in this video. I thank you!
Thank you.
Really good tips here. Thanks!
Thanks Matti. Just got my S5 today, and I'm going to start with your settings. Your approach seems logical and intuitive and will probably save me a week or more of tinkering with the S5.
Thanks for sharing.
Thank you so much matti. Your explanations are very simple. We hope you find out more about the Lumix S5. Good luck
Thanks for watching.
You solved the problem of saving separate video and still photography settings on my S5. As a hybrid shooter, it was the biggest factor steering me towards the camera, but the handbook wasn't clear on accessing the options. Thanks!
Thanks!
The last setting explained was a blessing... I always had same video / photo settings when switching between both 🥵
Thanks.
Love you for this one! Just bought our S5 last day and you saved at least 10 days for us. Thank you! ❤
Thanks. Happy to hear my video was helpful.
Recently bought my S5, using EF lenses, migrating off (can't afford) Canon RP range. Loving the Lumix hybrid approach, so this is perfect & logical setup for my mostly video. OMG this just saved me hours! Thank you, great share.
Thanks. Happy to hear my video could help.
You're damn right on the two years later!!
Great video Marri, I recently switched over the shooting with an S5. One thing that I like about changing the dial rotation ( 3:30) is that if you display the histogram it now moves in the direction you rotate the wheel. I have the histogram on one of the Exp Comp function button so that I can quickly display it and tweak the exposure and then turn it off again. ISO is on the control dial
Thank for you for this! I really apricated with way you setup the dials to rotate all 1 way for darker image and vice versa. I'd love to see you explore the different autofocus settings, including the AF custom settings.
Thank you! The AF settings depend so much on what you shoot and what is your shooting style, that I find it difficult to recommend anything for anyone else.
That was very helpful thank you Matti.
Thanks!
Great video. Definitely answered the questions that brought me to this video.
Awesome! Thank you!
Thank you so much. Very helpful 👌🏾
Glad it was helpful!
Super helpful. Thank you so much for the great content! Subscribed.
Thank you.
Good job!
Thanks!
Thanks for this video
My pleasure.
Thank you
You're welcome.
I have the Lumix S5 but really don't feel confident using it in manual. Can anyone suggest a good course/youtube video for learning from the beginning?
Thank uuu
Welcome 😊
Matti; great video and very helpful. Panasonic stands out to me as one of the better camera companies allowing many features for the customization of its camera menu systems. The ability to customize the Q-Menus allowing one Q-Menu for photos and another for Videos is simply great! Is this a feature of the S5 only or can this apply to the G9 also?
Thanks. The double Q menu is only on the S series.
Thanks this is very helpful. Particularly saving the photo video settings for hybrid work.
Im still trying to figure which brand is the best at this. My Nikon D750 saves everything automatically, but I want to move on from Nikon.
Thanks. I hope you can find the right camera and brand for your work.
Thank you for this great video. I am a beginner user of a professional camera and I wonder if you know of a class that goes in depth into every single feature and possibility of this camera? I would appreciate it.
Thanks. I'm no longer a brand ambassador and I'm not aware of any class of the kind you describe.
This is great. Can you break down your choice of settings with an applied situation? Maybe cover less settings. This will give more explanation time. Thanks
Thanks. I'll probably do another video or two covering some specific settings for a situation.
Thanks for your settings Matti. I have also, on my S5, configure the menu C1, C2 and C3 depending on the type of photo I take, portrait, street or lanscape. ;-)
I love my Lumix S5.
I just bought the TTArtisan 50mm 1.4, you know it ?
Thanks. Those C123 are also really handy, but I don't use them for some reason😀 I have never used that 50mm lens, but I know the lens.
I’ve got a small but needs to be fixed issue on a brand new S5. Service & warranty says I have to send the body abroad for checking, to evaluate the time it’s off from action and if the matter goes under the warranty or not. Don’t mind too much if it goes under warranty or not, it is a simple thing to fix, but the time it takes for the whole process worries me. Would you have any experience in Lumix after sales or warranty practices, what can one except? If I’d send the body, would I have to have a holiday for weeks or months?
This video looks so good and explanatory that I would like to understand it, I usually read the translation that youtube does in the subtitles, but in this case only the Vietnamese language appears, and when I translate it, it definitely has nothing to do with what you speak, UA-cam made the mistake of subtitling you as Vietnamese when the language is English
That is interesting. I removed the Vietnamese titles and I'll have to see if I can put English titles there.
@@mattisulanto Thx !
Thanks. I just purchased S5 ii and these settings are helpful. Is there a way to playback image right after its shot without pressing the play button. I am used to Canon camera and after I shoot the image I want to see the image show on screen automatically. Thank you
Thanks. That's an old video already and I'm actually not using Lumix actively any more. I'm also not an ambassador any more. So, I don't have the camera to double check the settings and menus, but you definitely can turn on the instant review/ auto review. Please, take look at the user's manual and you'll find the correct setting.
@@mattisulanto Thank you for the response. I will check the manual.
My s5 raw images when I bring them into lightroom / photpshop or capture one they are super dark?? 🤦♂🤷♂🤷♂ even though I made sure to check the exposure meter and over expose a little! Have you had this issue??
I never had issues like that, but you might want to check this video: ua-cam.com/video/GehmpWJasXY/v-deo.html
I haven't figured out a universal system for my Panasonic cameras. It probably would be difficult with different amounts of dials and buttons.
That's a problem with most camera brands, because there are so many different models. However, for example with Panasonic you can have very similar control set up from the G90 up all the way to the S1.
Hi, thank you for the tutorial. I’m a new Panasonic shooter. I am an s5 owner and I keep getting the message, “This item can’t be selected” when I attempt to change the focus peaking sensitivity in the settings. Do you know what could be the issue?
You have some setting on that prevents you from choosing FP sensitivity. I suppose you are using MF?
@@mattisulanto I had to reset to factory settings and now it’s working. Thanks again.
Matti, I can’t find a way to contact you on your website. Do you do any personal instruction via Zoom or FaceTime? I’m in Canada and struggling with the instructions for my new S5. I follow all your You Tube videos but still have questions! Thanks!
You can find my email on the about page/tab on my UA-cam channel page. Send me a message and let's see if I can help you.
I notice when I change settings like aperture, or shutter I don't get a live view of it. I only know the results after I have taken the picture when I view it. Do you know if there is a way around that? Thanks!
Turn on the Constant Preview. Custom menu > Monitor/Display. Manual page 383.
Thank you so much. I am still learning and you deserve 10 million subscribers!
Hi Matti, have you had any experience with using an external release cable? When i attach on to my S5 or G9 it automatically records in video. Any idea how to change this? I want to do long exposures using bulb exposure, but cant seem to do it. Any hints would be very much appreciated. I have a Hanhnel Captur timer.
I'm sorry, but I have never used a cable release with a Lumix. You most probably have some setting wrong, but I have no idea which setting.
@@mattisulanto ok thank you, I can’t find settings for a remote. Will keep looking. Thanks, much appreciated
@@vikkitempleton9157 I'm really sorry, but I can't help more.
Hi Matti, first of all great video, very useful! So thanks for that! I've just bought my S5, but I can't find a way to have manual control on ISO, shutter and aperture. With C1-C2 or C3 configuration when I change these values with dials, nothing happens. But sometimes they change in automatic depending on the light conditions that I find myself in. With my previous camera (GH5) I had a full manual control on all those parameters. Could you, please, help me with this? Thanks in advance!
Thanks. First check what you actually saved in C1, C2 and C3. It sounds like you were not in M mode when you saved those custom modes. But in order to help more I'd have know all your camera settings or better yet, hold your camera in my hand😀
@@mattisulanto Thanks for this. It makes sense and actually is not in M mode, but in P. How can I change it?
@@lorenzopantani2236 Your camera will save your current settings in C modes. You have to be in M mode when you save the C mode. Please read the manual page 337 (English manual).
@@mattisulanto Hi there, I've managed to set the camera as I wanted in the end. Thanks for your help!
@@lorenzopantani2236 Excellent!
How do you remove glare if you’re taking pictures of a car or the headlights? I can’t find anything on this.
You have to shoot from such angle that there are no reflections or glare in the picture. You have to experiment maybe with a stationary car and find out the correct angles.
Is it possible to view your image on the screen without having to go into the display to see it?
I don't understand your question. You press the play button to view your photos.
Not sure if this is a pointless phobia, or a practical concern, but I find the swivel screen on the S5 to be vulnerable. Because the screen is flush with the base of the camera, and only connected to the S5 body by a small pivot, I fear there could be excessive leverage if it rested on a hard object.
Not having owned a swivel screen camera before, only tilting varieties, is this a problem or does it exist only in my head? The screen on my camera already has a slight vertical rock on the right, and I've begun using a tripod plate to lift it away from any pressure.
There are dozens of flippy screen cameras out there and I don't think they are particularly vulnerable. However, it's possible to break anything or everything😀
@@mattisulanto A micro cage is available for the S5 which provides a base, and a small bracket to support cables or add a light. It might be what I'm looking for. Thanks for the reply.
Totally understand......I have a panasonic G7 and the swivel screen suffered a lot over time
Wave diagram is not displayed in photo modes.
Exactly.... searched forever to return really nothing on that. I wish waveforms would be available in photo mode to help expose vlog easier. I get it now! WAVEFORMS ARE NOT AVAILABLE IN PHOTO MODE. Your comment would have saved me hours of searching the topic. Would be nice if LUMIX would just show a quick error message instead of allowing you to add it as a custom button function..... only to go and test and find out it does not apply.
Is there a way to hide channel 1 & 2 bars?
I'm not a brand ambassador any more and I don't own this camera any more. As far as I can remember you can hide the audio levels, but I don't remember how. Please take a look at the camera user manual. It's a really good source of info.
This video shoot on panasonic? What picture profile?
I'm pretty sure it was the 10-bit Log profile. That's what I used with Panasonic.
@@mattisulanto how you convert log to rec709
@@KLYCHVV FCP does that at export.
I see you are suffering the scourge of discarded face masks as well , same problem in UK. Nice black ad white photography.
Wrong channel?😀
?
Would the S5 be a worthy upgrade from my G9 ?
It really depends on what you shoot and what you feel is inadequate with the G9.
@@mattisulanto I use it for stills mostly, landscapes, creative and more and I don't know of any missing features that I need.
@@iandrury1542 It sounds to me that there is no reason for you to switch. However, if you just want a new camera...😀
@@mattisulanto , well great minds think alike, plus I love the compact nature, lighter weight and extensive range of m4/3rds lenses, so I'll stay with this system and rationalize the number of lenses I have available to use. Thanks for your input.
I have mixed feelings about the product made in China. Given my previous nikkor lenses made in China, frequent failures and went to services.
