      I aaaaaaagggggggreeeeeeeee!!!!!!! Most other constructive and helpful videos don't break down as deeetaaailed all the little steps to the Ollie by breaking down and explaining how and why the front foot. needs to slide forward towards the nose, why and where you place your feet, the mechanics of the Ollie and how taking weight off the back foot after you pop the board allows the front foot to drag the board upward to the height you need it to go and then leveling out the board to the land the trick...
      Beeeeeeeeeest beeeeeeeest evvvvvvvvvver dude....
      The O.G. skateboarders separate but same Ollie tricked explained videos by Tony Hawk and Rody Mullen are the one ones that come close and some wherein the mix the Braille Skateboard channel How To Ollie video...
      I thrive off precise step by step detail and deeper concepts and mechanics and you deserve an Oscars tutorial award for the best Ollie video on the internet and You Tube hands down...
      I believe other channels leave out some of the details that you don't provide because they've been doing the trick so long, they don't think about the other Little Steps that's important to someone who's a day one beginner to need to understand why the trick works so that people watching can better understand how to execute the trick...
      Plus your teaching ability us suuuuuppppppeeeer thorough!!!!!!!!
      Thaaaanks duuuude!!!!!!!!!!!!!
      Much success to you!!!!!
      HAPPY SKATING!!!!!!!!!

    This channel is one of my favorite skating tutorial channels. It didn’t disappoint this time either. Reasons:
    1) Visually great, the vids look cool, the sound is quality too
    2) The pace of the text is excellent, the speaker sounds super friendly and encouraging
    3) The animations and the slo mo parts are really helping with visualising what you want to learn (arrows for example)
    4) Tricks can be seen repeatedly.
    Anyway I really really appreciate your work, guys.👏👏👏👌

    I really like how detailed this is about each step and how relates, in time, to the other steps. I wish I would have watched this ollie-how-to first! The other vids rarely explain the rear foot this well. Thank you!
    Just knowing that the snap happens right before the foot leaves the board would have saved me a lot of frustration.

    The part about holding onto something really helped me get what an ollie is supposed to feel like. Such an underrated piece of advice. And if you can find a crack to put your wheels in and a wall/fence to hang onto, even better. Eventually you'll feel the board suck up to your feet. When you feel that. Do it about 20-30 more times and then try to ollie without the wall. I saw Instant improvement.

    what im finding though, is all the guys doing these videos tell you to get the front foot to have the toe match the edge of the deck or even hang off a bit. But when they actually do it, they would have the toe move in a bit. My guess is that it helps the ball of the foot get to the center of the board, and also let the body face forward more naturally because if the front foot is more forward, the body would want to turn backside.

    Great video. Good explanations and super high production quality! However, like most ollie tutorials you mention that you should slide the foot up towards the nose. But if you watch ollies frame by frame - including yours - it looks more like as if the front knee is pushed forward and the front lower leg is folded inwards. This makes the inside of the front foot move almost straight up towards the crotch, rather than sliding up the board. What are your thoughts on this? Do you actively try to fold your leg like this when you you jump up?

    • @tacticsboardshop
      @tacticsboardshop  3 роки тому +2

      Thank you! I appreciate that! You're completely right. When the deck pops and angles vertically upwards, the only way to drag toward the nose (which is pointing straight up) is to drag your foot straight upwards by bending the knee and lifting your foot towards your crotch. The pop of the board shoves the grip against your shoe and since your front foot is already moving upwards, instead of just bouncing off your foot, the board grips and gets pulled up with the foot. I guess the "slide up towards the nose" terminology is the classic way of explaining that motion, but you are completely correct in the way the front knee bends and the leg folds inward. I don't specifically think of that motion, I just try pulling my foot straight upwards and then leveling it out. Although I've been doing ollies for a while now so I don't really think about it much anymore, but probably the best thing to concentrate on would be trying to get as good of a jump, pop, and tuck as possible. I guess an ollie could be done without the inward fold where the knee is straight above the front foot, but I think you would have less leverage to push the nose forward to level it out. Anyway, I digress. It's nice to know people are observing closely. Cheers! - Tim

    •  3 роки тому +1

      @@tacticsboardshop Thanks for sharing your thoughts on this - I really appreciate it! I've been struggling to learn ollies for several years! Yes years :) Since I have zero talent when it comes to skateboarding I instead have to try to really understand how things work. Once / if I understand something I have a slightly better chance of learning it. I've heard the advice about sliding up the foot so many times that I (almost) started to doubt my own observations, so it was great to hear that I wasn't completely misunderstanding it. The first years(!) I really tried to do this sliding motion, but I never got it to work. Just a few days ago I started to think of it as "folding the lower leg" and then I got somewhat better results. If you have the time, please have a look at my attempt at 4 minutes 0 seconds in this video ua-cam.com/video/tnmPDQqn3W8/v-deo.html
      Now I'm trying to understand why my board turns 45 or 90 degrees. Everyone told me that it had to do with my front shoulder turning during the jump, but now I actually think it has to do with the fact that the lower legs point backwards / heelside / towards your back when you jump high and pull up your knees. This usually makes your feet point in a quite strange direction, which will make the board turn. In order to keep the board "flat" while levelling it out I actually think you have to counteract this backward angle of the lower legs by actively pushing them forward / toeside / towards your front at the highest point of the jump. Apart from making your lower legs point straight downwards (instead of backwards) this motion will probably also flatten your feet. What do you think of this? Do you try to push your feet forwards / toeside as well when you're levelling out the board? :)

    • @tacticsboardshop
      @tacticsboardshop  3 роки тому +2

      @ From watching the ollies that turn, it definitely looks like your shoulders are opening up and turning counter clock wise. As you're popping your left arm pulls behind you making your shoulders turn toward the front of the board. Maybe think about throwing your arms straight up in the air so your shoulders don't open up. At first I thought it might be that the pop is being angled, but it seems that the 45-90 degree rotation is occurring once you're in mid air. The pop looks solid, now you just need to push the sliding foot forward (as in the left side of your body) into the nose to level out the back end so there isn't so much "air foot" (distance between your board and the back foot). It'll feel like you're taking that inward knee fold and using your hip to pivot your thigh/leg to an outward kick/extension of the knee (to the left side of your body/direction of the nose) and that will help lift up the back end. I hope that made sense! 😄 It looks like you're 90% there and there's only one small adjustment that will make it all snap into place. Do you ever try to ollie while moving? I have a feeling that the issues might correct themselves if you try it while rolling because it's easier to keep yourself parallel with the board when you have a direction. But I think every trick is easier while rolling because it gives you a little more stability the same way it's easier to balance on a bike while it's rolling. You got this! As long as you're having fun with the process, it doesn't matter how long it takes! Good luck and stay safe out there. Cheers! - Tim 🍻

    •  3 роки тому +1

      @@tacticsboardshop Thanks for the encouragement and your detailed analysis Tim! I really appreciate it. After having watched thousands of videos of myself trying to ollie, I actually think that the mid air 45/90 degree rotation mainly is caused by the board hitting my front foot. And since my front foot is at a "strange angle" when the board hits the foot, the board twists / turns until it has the same angle as my foot. So I think I need to ensure that my front foot is "pointing in the right direction" when the nose of the board gets in contact with the foot. As you say, this is probably solved if I manage to kick the front foot forward. Yes, I do rolling ollies as well, but not that much since I typically get the 45/90 degree in those as well. And it's not fun to land on a board that's heading the wrong way :) Nowadays I mostly do rolling ollies off a curb / manual pad. At 3 minutes 39 seconds into this video I managed to get a straight jump, so if I can add a pop + jump + level out to this one I got myself a rolling ollie :) ua-cam.com/video/PoeiJjLlYKI/v-deo.html

    • @tacticsboardshop
      @tacticsboardshop  3 роки тому +1

      @ There’s only two different things I can think of that will cause the board to rotate frontside (counter clockwise for us because we’re both regular) Either your body is turning that direction, or the pop is being pushed forward slightly like a frontside shuv-it. I’m not sure the issue is that the board is bouncing off your foot because from watching the footage of your ollies, the front foot stays in contact with the board the entire time (as it should) so there's no way that it could bounce off the front foot and start turning. Ollies can be done with just about any wild foot positioning and nothing about your foot positioning/stance looks abnormal and it doesn't look like you foot is at an odd angle. The board is only going to go where the front foot guides it, and it appears that your left leg is being lead by your shoulder and torso counter clockwise, which in turn is guiding the nose in that direction. Right at 4:25 in this video (ua-cam.com/video/tnmPDQqn3W8/v-deo.html), use the "" keys to move frame by frame. Look at the left arm swing back and the shoulders open slightly, then it's followed by the torso and legs. By the end of the jump, your shoulders have already returned to the starting point, but not before transferring that energy to the lower half of your body.
      Something that might help is to think about doing a lateral jump toward the nose of the board leading with your left foot. You can try it off the board for a bit, but when you do it on the board, think about jumping toward the nose and directing your foot up and then "into" the nose of the board. I believe that if you can direct your focus and front foot out to the correct direction, the board will stay with your front foot and level out, and will perhaps solve some of the rotating issues.
      I'm definitely down to continue correspondence to get those ollies squeaky clean. Best of luck! 🍻 - Tim
