Im 45 years old and havent skated for 27 or 28 years. Your videos really helped me getting some tricks done without ending up in hospital. Great stuff, thanks!!!
Tim, these trick tutorial videos are by far the best on UA-cam. I’ve watched damn near all of them and none are as friendly, detailed, and clear as these. You’re really sympathetic to the beginner-skater experience and it makes it so much easier to understand and practice.
this actually helps a lot. i can kickflip off of stuff, not very consistent but i can do it, but my kickflips always look bad and rocket and i think it’s because i’ve always thought i had to kick and flick straight up
This video is on my ballot for the Trick Tip Hall of Fame. Unbelievably helpful breakdown of the movement elements combined with great encouragement on mindset and visualization
Tactics makes some of the most helpful and detailed skate tutorials on this UA-cam. I appreciate how much they have taught me. Their tutorials are well structured and packed with information.
I already have all the basics on lock but still watch your videos. Should definitely continue this series for newer skaters, the best tutorial i've watched by far in my 5 years of skating :)
Nice! You basically already got the hardest part - getting that moment where it clicks and you know what to do. I'm at the same stage right now... But that damned fear to primo and die. Takes a few trys to overcome this every sesh.
I appreciate your step by step still shot explanations and your emphasis on patience and practice. I’m 47 and haven’t skated in 35 years but I am DETERMINED to land the kick flip and hope here soon it will happen. Cheers
Your last tip, may be the most important one. Getting frustrated, and keep trying, and the attempts getting worse an worse and worse..(and you getting angrier and angrier). Maybe even till the point where you give up, and hate the whole experience. So taking a break from trying trick, can actually be the most constructive thing you do. Often if I sleep on stuff, the next day, you may even be closer to landing than the day before (because of muscle memory and all that). I would say it's vital
I landed my first kickflip on grass like 5 months ago and now I’m trying to get back into them, but this time on concrete. Hopefully I’ll get these by the end of the summer!
This is very thorough and nicely explained! I especially think the whole 'have confidence in landing' is going to matter so much. I've recently invested more time in learning frontside pop shove its, which to me is currently probably the most scary trick I haven't mastered yet before the heel flip and kick flip.
Top 20! I just started skateboarding and I love all aspects of not just the vibe but it’s a whole lifestyle! I’m still working on ollies but I want to crush this by 2021 summer. I picked up a board for my birthday and I’ve said your channel has helped me a lot. I’ve been just cruising and riding around for now, can’t do much while snow and stuff. But yeah, I do love this and for your motivation, I shall go out and be myself and ride my board. Keep it up. And your on the road to 100k.
Wtf?! Why does this have so little clicks? That was one of the best, if not the best, how tos on UA-cam. Thanks for that great video. Btw, I actually did my first Kickflip four days ago (at the age of 35), but I keep on watching tutorials to get me hyped. Your video definitely makes me wanna go out and work on that Kickflip till perfection. ;) (English is my foreign language, so be nice about grammar etc)
Um... This is THE best kickflip tutorial video. Like for real I've watched so many. This was so helpful. Now I'm pumped to try kickflips. The part about commitment is gonna help me with my heelflips which I can land awkwardly 1 in 10 attempts 😭
Just got a new board today getting back into it after a few years, was never able to do a kickflip but this will definitely get Me there this time. Thank u!
Im halfway through the video, and I swear I never watched kickflip tutorial like this one. I have exact problem flicking on the side of the deck. I can land stationary kickflip tho, but never while moving. Need to continue watching!
This is a very, very good instructional. Well done. 👏👏👏 A lot of people will benefit from this video. Using that wall to give yourself some extra negative G is the ticket for early success with kick flips.
Does the board shift forward when it flips so you land on the back? Or are you situated towards the back when you try it? I would just reiterate to keep your center of gravity over the center of the board, and if your flick is making the board travel forward, then you might have to give it a slight more downward flick instead of straight forward. I hope that helps! 🙏🛹 - Tim
honestly if you are having trouble with the kickflip. try learning the healflip. the healflip forces you to commit to letting the board spin under you something that is easy to do when learning kickflips is to step of to the side with either foot and not commit.
Man!! I've been trying to do these again for like a year and a half! So annoying how they wont come back to me. Used to skate in the 80s/90s, quite for 20+ years. 46 now ffs lol Used to be able to do these with my eyes closed back in the day.
catching the board has been always a mistery to me. I've never been that good but used to land a few tricks back in the day. When i kickflip, the board spins and catch it the best i can. Half foot in half foot out, with the toes, with the heels, on the tail, on the nose, and sometimes on the bolts. I always loved how other guys just catch in on the air on the bolts almost everytime and not like a simple lottery game. Everyone talks about catching the board in a split of a second like if they were some kind of jedi knight ninja dudes and i always found myself like "well...its flipping...now aim to the bots...oh wait ive already land it, damn" that thing its faster than the eye lol. Coming back after 15 years, ive rolled just a few days but didnt try to do one...lets se how it goes this time hahaha
This is the best kickflip tutorial out there and I can do ollies thanks to the tutorial but every time I try a kickflip the board just goes flying away or it hits my leg. Does anyone else have this problem?
Hey Tim, very nice tutorial, i really like how u are doing kickflips! 🔥 I got my stationary kickflips down 🙃 but i still have trouble to flick forward over the nose... my flicking motion stops at the end of the nose and immediately gets back on the board in a kind of backward motion. have to work on that 🤞
So I can’t get my back foot to get onto the board, I always land first before my feet. I try everything but it doesn’t work, you guys got any tips ? Now I do have a bigger board so should I go down a size as well. I’m ride a 8.25
The only flip tricks I ever learned was a Ollie Flip.....where you faced forward and started an Ollie using your front foot to flick the board to the side and land it.
I don’t know how to Ollie while riding, I can do them really well while holding to something and kinda good without rolling, but I landed 3 Kickflips while holding, and almost got it while rolling xD
hey tactics just a quick question. so i buy shoes waay too fast, not because i rip through the suede but because the bottom outsole tears and my feet gets exposed. i wore vans kyle walker pros, and it lasted 3 months even though the upper suede was fine, it ripped on the bottom sole. any tips on why this is happening and any shoe recommendations that are durable? thanks!
Do you do a lot of micro foot-shifting and adjusting when your going to try a trick? Sometimes I see skaters who twist and shift their feet around on the grip tape when getting sett up for a trick and it just eats the sole. Also if you do a lot of foot dragging to brake, that can also wear out the soles. There are definitely some brands out there that have very durable proprietary rubber compounds for the outsole. Also cupsole shoes are more durable on the bottom than vulcanized shoes. Etnies did a collab with Michelin tires to make a very durable rubber sole. The Marana Michelin shoes from Etnies are super durable. I don't know if you've already seen this video, but it might help you out when your choosing your next pair of skate shoes. Happy New Year! - Tim ua-cam.com/video/Vjab-9e7wXQ/v-deo.html
That's a tough one. The best advice I could give you is to build some boxes, flat bars, and ramps to skate. Keep an eye out for abandoned foundations or areas that you could potentially build a DIY spot. My hometown had very few spots, and we would get kicked out of the few that we're any good. So we just built a bunch of stuff and had our own little skatepark in my friends cul-de-sac. I hope that helps! - Tim
What Helps to keep my Schoulders parallel go the Board? I Land Mann kickflips but mm shoulders are Always Looking Forward.. Same Problem with my Varial kickflip.. I Need heelp, its so frustrating
Is it only flipping over half way? It probably has something to do with your flick. Be sure you're flicking of the side of the nose and giving it a good healthy kick to get it around. Also be sure to get a good jump and pop so the board has enough air time to finish the flip. The hardest part about flip tricks in general is finding that balance of jump, pop, flick, and crouch, all while keeping it under your body. It'll take some dedication and a willingness to fall a few times from committing, but I know you'll be able to get it! Cheers! - Tim
Every time I try to kick flip my board does the whole flip but my legs both spread out on both sides of the board. I am size 4 in shoes, and I have a 8.0 almost green ring deck, thunder hollow trucks, spitfire formula 4 wheels and bones red bearings. I do have some razor tail. Please any tip helps.
If the board is underneath you and completing the flip, then all you have left is to commit to the landing. Committing is the scariest part because there's a chance something could go wrong and we could fall, but honestly falling on flatground is not so bad and taking a few tumbles is just part of the game. Just visualize yourself putting your feet back on the board and commit to that vision with a 100% effort attempt. I know you can do it! 🙌 - Tim
There are a lot of ‘tutorials’ online, but none that I’ve seen come close to being this approachable, concise, and thorough. Fantastic work!!

Ive landed stationary about 3 times in going to try to roll
Nice! You basically already got the hardest part - getting that moment where it clicks and you know what to do.

You got it!!! 🛹🙏
@@tacticsboardshop update: I’ve almost landed it like 20 times! The problem is that I keep landing on the tail so it doesn’t really count. Any tips?

How does this guy only have 108k subs
my secret key for getting kickflips clean and consistently is front foot flick out and move your back foot straight up
I don’t know how to Ollie while riding, I can do them really well while holding to something and kinda good without rolling, but I landed 3 Kickflips while holding, and almost got it while rolling xD

What Helps to keep my Schoulders parallel go the Board? I Land Mann kickflips but mm shoulders are Always Looking Forward.. Same Problem with my Varial kickflip..

Turn your neck/head not your upper body
@ any other skate tutorials) this guy is way better than any of u
hey i still cant get kickflips idk why but do u have any suggustions for under flicking??
